So we can not flash a clean install of clockworkmod with the e3 boot loader. It wont allow unsigned zips to be installed. Isn't it as easy as signing the file correctly? Or am i missing something?
Also is there any way to install it using adb? I am just trying to figure out a way rather then following what is posted about changing the boot loader to not check signed files. I have heard of some nasty problems people have been having doing it that way.
I found a thread talking about this. You need to get the 3e_recovery_no_sig_check file. It's over int eh fascinate forums I think.
I think i'm having the same issue. I downloaded rom manager, flashed clockworkmod and it said it worked but everytime I reboot into recovery mode its still the stock android recovery mode.
I need to find a way to install unsigned zips
I was actually trying to see why things are not signed correctly. Any thoughts? Also was curious to know if you could install it via a computer using adb. I kind of don't want to monkey with the boot loader.

Got a VZW Galaxy tab. Rooted and got ROM manager & SGS Kernel Flasher.
1. I flash using SGS and it successfully flashes, as it reboots and I can see from Settings->Device Info that it shows the Developer's version.
2. I then go to CWM (ROM Manager) load ROM from SD, chose the ROM which is in update.zip format, I select to wipe date and casche and then nothing.
It gets stuck at the SAMSUNG boot screen. So i have to use Heimdall to restore back to stock VZW Rom. I have tried several times, even after flash just tried to reboot directly into Recovery mod (Power+Volume Down) and same thing. Goes to SAMSUNG boot screen and freezes.
What am I missing or doing wrong???
First thing i would recommend is : uninstall rom manager. It causes more problems. If you did a search on these forums you would find loads more tales of woe re rom manager.
Second thing is: have look through the dev section, at the instructions for installing clockwork recovery. Then look for the appropriate rom for your device.
But whatever you do, uninstall rom manager

Isn't ROM manager ClockworkMod?
I searched Clockworkmod on the market and when installed the icon says ROM Manager though...

Where you went wrong is just jumping in qnd not even bothering to read ANY tutorials here.
Go and read them instead of screwing things up and then asking where you went wrong.

Have you tried booting into CW Recovery manually and running the KhasMek.Voodoo.Plus.CDMA.Tab.v5.OC.zip (like the instructions say)?
Your thread header says you are using ROM Manager and trying to run the update.zip package.
ROM Manager _should_ work, but maybe stick with instructions especially if you're having issues.
Yes I have tried going into Recovery manually as I stated in my original post.
I always flashed with SGS kernel flasher as it seemed to work well.
Then I tried manually going to Recovery w/o CWM and gets stuck at boot screen as well.
I tried WITH CWM and same stuck at boot screen.
Tried wiping data through Recovery, through the UI (Settings then ect, ect) and several other combos trying to load the custom ROM.
All I am successul is at rooting, then flashing the kernel. Then no matter which step I tried if i reboot it will get stuck at the SAMSUNG boot screen.
Even if I just turn it off and then turn it back on, after the flash, it will get stuck at the boot screen.
I downloaded the kernal flash directly from the link of the first page. And if the kernal file was courrupt i don't think the flash would go successfully.
I've never used the SGS Flasher so can't say what it would do if the file was corrupt.
Maybe flash it using Heimdall to check the file?
Sorry to hear you are having problems. I am also sorry for the rudeness on this forum. Although I seldom post I read it daily. Here is what I would try;
1. The issue may be with the file name update.zip if you can, rename it to anythingyoulike.zip on you computer and then copy it to your SD card. You may even have to take the card out of your tab to do this (delete the update.zip once the file is renamed). Once the renamed file is on the SD card try to reflash.
2. Have you tried to start again using Odin? There is a good clip on you tube about this. As long as the tab at least starts to boot it is not bricked. Feel free to PM me for any additional help.
Good luck.

When I use SGS to flash, it reboots and i can see in settings that it has been flashed.
If I use Heimdall, it flashes then gets stuck at the boot screen.
Hello.
ROM manager is unable to download clokworkmod recovery. Maybe because I'm in a "sanctioned country" CUBA and I have a lot of internet restrictions from both Google and my ISP.
My question is: Can I manually download clokworkmod recovery and copy it on the SD card and have ROM manager install it?
If the answer is yes: How? and where do I find Clockworkmod for the captivate?
i897 stock 2.1.1 rooted and unlocked.
Thanks.

all rom manager does is put this zip file on your sdcard. its not needed.
just drop this on the root of your sdcard, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice. CWM will come up then

the one caveat to this ... make sure you have the 2e boot loader when you boot into recovery. The 2e bootloader is the stock bootloader that comes with froyo. 3e will require you to have the update packages signed, and therefore will need to downgrade to 2e before you can switch to CWM.

Wrong.
2e RECOVERY comes from firmware 2.1, which the OP stated he was on. Froyo comes with 3e recovery. Has nothing to do with bootloader, because the bootloaders are the same between eclair and Froyo.

GREAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Working, one more question. I noticed three things:
1 - If I reboot to recovery again it goes into stock recovery (2e). Then I hit reinstall packages only once and ClockWorkMod comes up.
2 - If I delete the update.zip from the sd card CWM will not work.
3 - ROM Manager still says that CWM is not installed therefore is not working OK.
Is all this ok? Should I select: "Install sdcard:update.zip" while in CWM? Should I do something else?

That sounds pretty normal to me. If you are getting into CWM then thats all that really matters. The deal with ROM manager is that it doesnt work very well with our phones. But if you are trying to flash a custom ROM you can still do it without ROM Manager. However, you need to read up about the rom you want to flash because it is a slightly risky process. Its as risky as using ROM Manager and almost Russian roulette if you dont read.
But do not delete the update.zip after you install it. I dont know if it messes with the boot process of recovery mod but I do know its better to have that backup file on your SD card already if you run into a problem later on.
Don't bother with ROM manager. Its close to useless with SGS phones. Make sure your 3 botton combo works and you should be golden. Also making a jig isn't a bad idea also, just incase you do screw up and you get in a softbrick where your keycombos decide to not work.
Hi there, after rooting my phone with the "DoomLord's via Zergrush Exploit" , and after installing rom manager and flashing clockworkmod. I just can't access it.
If I load into the bootloader and click recovery, I get an image with a ! sign and a picture of an android, the same happens when I load recovery through rom manager. I have flashed the recovery twice now and my phone's just not having it. My phone works no problem, I just dont understand it
All I want to do is to make a backup and install a custom rom
Am I doing somthing wrong?
(Yes, my bootloader is locked BTW)
Very simple - you didn't flash the recovery properly, so you're getting to stock recovery.
Yup like Jack_R1 stated, the flash didn't stick or you didn't do it right.
Open Rom Manager, at the top it will tell you what recovery you have.
Does it show anything?
You could also try adb if you have that setup
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide#Installing_a_Custom_Recovery_Image
You could even install it via terminal on your phone
Heck try this recovery, it's good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291970
Try THIS. Install the application and it will install the best recovery
Rom manager tells me that i have clockworkmod 5.0.2.0
I'll try installing the recovery through terminal when i get back to my pc
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
EDIT: Having seen the other recovery you've stated, i'll try and install that.
Also, does it matter about which version of android i'm running? could that result of a bad install of the recovery through clockworkmod?
Its 2.3.4 stock rom if anyone's intrested
FINAL EDIT:
Thank you!
4EXT flashed perfectly, after using the app to reboot into the bootloader, it loaded up that. Many thanks!
Hi, I have got an i9000 with Cyanogenmod 10.1.3
Recently I lost ClockWorkmod and I cannot upgrade to newer versiones of Cyanogen anymore.
I think that I switched back to stock recovery mode by accident.
I am not sure if this happened playing with room manager or so.
Actually the phone is already rooted, so I suppose there should be some simple way to recover "recovery mode" from inside the phone. I do not know if it should be clockworkmod or there would be a better option.
Solutions I found at forums include use odin for rooting the phone, but the phone is already rooted.
I also tried to use apps as room manager to flash recovery again, but it did not work as it refused to install galaxysmtd clockworkmod. It suggest me to do it manually but I do not know hot to do it.
¿What would be de simplest way to get recovery mode back again?
I think there should be a simple app to do it or even using dd from terminal to flash it but I am not sure about de file I should flash and the target device.
Thanks,
txemi
I answer myself.
Recovery Tools - Flasher did what I needed.

So far, I have rooted the phone. The bootloader says the device is unlocked.
Where do I go from here?
I have a ROM picked out already, it's on the SD card, on the phone, all ready to go. The problem I'm having is I have no idea how to "reboot to recovery" in the ROM instalation steps when I can't figure how to install a recovery like CWM (which doesn't seem to be avaliable for this phone?).
I've been at this for an hour and a half and so far I've made no progress other than simply frustrating myself with my inability to figure out what seems to be something so simple.
I have a fully rooted and moded Atrix2, but I was able to install CWM Recovery from google play, and it's all simple from there, but that's where I'm stuck at with this AtrixHD, I can't find a recovery to install to flash ROM, flash gapps, clear dalvic, and carry on my happy way.
I've been searching and trying more things and with no luck. It's been two hours now. I can't find a CWM Recovery to install, and TWRP just gives me dead-droid that I have to unscrew the battery connector to hard reset the phone to go back and try again.
I've been refraining from posting this, but I'm going to bed now and I've had no luck at all. Really could just use some help.
Use myth tools to install cwm. You can also download the latest cwm or Philz and flash it in fastboot mode.
Myth Tools is a windows binary, I'm running linux, so it doesn't do me much good at all.
Also, I don't know where to get the latest CWM. Haven't heard of Philz, but I'll see if I can find it. As for flashing it in fastboot mode, never done that before (since I never had to with old phone), so not entirely sure how to.
Found the how to flash a recovery finally http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_mb886 no longer stuck now. Installing ROM as I type this.
Did you unlock the bootloader?

Yes, ROM is loaded onto the phone already now, I was stuck at not having CWM recovery, but I found a how-to with replacing it now.
I just wasn't having luck finding out what to do with that step. It's kinda a learning curve with installing custom roms, once you learn it, it's simple, but with every device being somewhat different and needing special steps for some devices, and different steps for others, this wasn't the same process as my old phone and it left me a bit lost and quite stuck. The URL I put above gave me everything I needed to know that I didn't already have knowledge about.
Download philz recovery and then download flashify from play store and flash recovery through it
