htc hero 2.1update1 downgrade

got a hero 2.1update1 on .6... tried to downgrade it with no success.
tried unrevoked and root2 methods with no success... just says Killed. which usually means its being blocked... didnt know if any1 knew a method or a way to downgrade this phone
when i try to downgrade to .5 the phone reboots from the app and it just doesnt detect it after that... says its not plugged into usb... odd
tried factory defaults, etc
anything i'm missing?

the phone keeps hanging after reboot on trying to downgrade from .6 to .5

I can repeatedly get a temp root using this method:

which also works on a Samsung Intercept and Epic (Galaxy S). All 3 phones (Hero, Intercept, and Epic) are Sprint CDMA's.
But I can't get the root to be permanent on the Hero because the it doesn't seem to have the /system/bin/playlogo file and therefore doesn't execute the exploit on boot...
I'm open to ideas...

i have sprint htc hero 2.1 update 6 and wanted to root my phone so as to get CM6.
I installed universal one-click root app onto my phone
and in minutes, i can see super user app on my app tray.
and now, i am trying to find out if i can install custom recovery image to be able to do a nandroid backup before installing CM6.

you can. I ran into the same problem with my recently replaced hero. wouldnt do the downgrade to .5 loaded up oneclick. got root. loaded up rom manager and then flashed a recovery image from there. then I could boot into recovery and flash any rom I wanted. took about 5 minutes to do.
so now am keeping both files on my sd card just in case I ever have to swap my phone again I can root and flash before I even leave the store.

i downloaded clockwork recovery image from internet and did adb push of this image to /sdcard and used ROM Manager to flash this recovery image. initially, couple of times, the script reported error. i had to retry couple of times and then it worked.
i am now using ROM manager to flash CM6 on my htc hero. so far so good.

Installing Update using Clockwork and OTA JH7 taking an hour?

The bar has not filled up...What to do? Quit and try again?
USed Clockwork mod to find and install OTA'JH7.zip
Searched for it
found it
Installing hangup and nothing in the bar indicating anything is being done

Did you have any lagfixes installed prior to trying to update?

My history is as follows:
Stock to Root
Back to stock
Installed JH7 via mini Kies
BAck to stock
(Learned how to use adb to get into download mode)
Loaded Froyo "Officical beta"
Wanted to try the Clockwork mod so I went back to stock using ODIN
Installed the Zip files in proceeded to install Clockwork then searched for and found the OTA file
There are two files out there. JH7_OTA.zip and JTA_OTA_STOCK.zip
The latter did not work and hung up on install..I loaded the former and it installed.
Now a few questions regarding Clockwork
I dropped the Cognition 2.2 5 in my root directory..Can I load that in the same way? Then go back to the JH7 when the Official 2.2 froyo comes out? Whether rooted or not?
If I want to root the phone I will have two update.zips in the root directory (Clockwork and the root upadate.zip)...Must I remove Clockwork? IS it loaded or does it execute from the zip every time? Can I rename the Root update.zip to something else now that I can "find" it with Clickwork?
I like the clockworkmod and will definitely pay for it if it allows me to change ROMS I place on the SD on the fly rooted or unrooted (would never need to go back to JH6 and deal with adb if so)
Final question,,,Shoudl I use clockwork to "reset the battery?"
I do not intend to do any lagfixing beyond whatever is in Cognition since that seems to be more of a problem than it may be worth

Read the Cog wiki, there have been so many versions I can't remember all of them and the install instructions, some you needed to flash through Clockwork. Cog 2.2 5 Is Froyo whicj means you can not use Clockwork to flash anything with Froyo running because Froyo is not an official release and is BETA it is not signed, Koush hasn't found a way to sign it in order for Clockwork to work with it yet. Clockwork is worth having the paid version yes. You must be rooted to use ROM Manager so unrooting you loose access.
If you are using JH7 that you flashed check if you have SuperUser in your apps drawer, if so you are rooted. Get used to Odin if you are going to mod your phone you will use it more than you think and it becomes less scarey the more you use it.
You've already modded your phone so OTA updates will not work for you, mini kies will so go ahead and flash away, you will eventually have to flash with Odin to update with mini kies so go have fun. Also, those guys on the dev section will have the official up as soon as it comes out. We had JH7 within a few hours, none of us could do the OTA and AT&T bricked a lot of phones so I will only use stuff from Samsung anyways.

Yeah I have two phones and one is the guinea pig. I have my main phone on the pre release of Froyo. I am practicing getting the second phone eventually from Cognition2.2 5 to Samsung's official release. I have used ODIN probably 10 times to get back to JH6 where I have to use the adb SDK to get into recovery/Download modes.
The OTA updates did not work for either phone which is why I began modding and learning, Mini Kies was the only way to get JH7 until now with Clockwork.

Dont know what to do at this point...any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Here is what all i have done so far. Late 2010 i downloaded OCLF from android market and rooted 2.1 Eclair had consistant Quad score from 2300-2450. Phone started acting glitchy and slow so i used app to unroot and root back. Worked great for a little while then same problems repeated. So i thought i'll update 2.2 then reroot. Waited on 2.2 through Samsung Kies to release and updated. 1st attempt phone rooted but when booted up it didnt recognize sim or memory card and about 5 force close screens appeared when on home screen. Also, wifi stopped working completely so i bought a new router and it worked again(tried on other wifi locations to test issue before and after). Samsung Kies wouldnt allow another update so i used Odin and it seemed to force everything through. Tried downloading SuperOneClick on WinXP went to root error stated i needed .net 2.0 file, so i downloaded .net v3.5. Went to root again and same error missing 2.0 file. Tried using One Click Root and copied files to memory card clicked 2.2 root phone reboots and i get the "signature verification failed error" a majority seem to be receiving(both done on WinXP and Mac 10.6.6-on Mac phone reboots fine but there is no root in place). Ive also tried other methods i've read about such as OneClickLagFix and z4root, downloading to computer placing on memory card using "MyFiles" that comes stock on device and "Astro Manager" from android market. When i extract files i get a security error that At&t has wonderfully put in place. Also tried rebooting into recovery mode to apply update.zip file and there is no option to install specific file only option to reinstall packages and when i reinstall i get signature verification error. THEN i used Odin to go back to 2.1 tried using SuperOneClick and One Click Root same problems repeat. Used Samsung Kies to go back to 2.2 to make a little faster since i cant seem to root either way and now i have no 3 button recovery mode or download mode. New tried Super One Click Root with 2.1 but always flawless for me with 2.2. You said you tried it with 2.1 but have you retried Super One Click since updating to 2.2?
If that doesn't work try odin back to 2.1 then use galaxy s one click. Only instead of running the program that places the update zip on your phone try manually putting the file i have attached on your phone.
The file attachment labeled Root.zip is the root update file from Galaxy One Click Root from. Just rename it as Update.zip. Put it on internal SD. Goto recovery mode and Reinstall packages (this is for 2.1).

if yo can go into download mode try odin back to stock as what bames said if still no button combos install the leaked froyo from designgears rev02 it will bring back your button combos and you can messed up anything again once settled you did't diasble oclf and file ext2 before flashing something that's your caveat there.. your phone will bounce back and forth with that

First of all. DO NOT PANIC. In order to solve your problem, first thing you need to do is leave everything as it is right now and head for the closest Starbucks, drink your coffee slowly and read the paper.
After you calm down, come back and do the following:
1) Read complete this posting and watch all three videos
2) Using one click ODIN flash back to JF6. If you don't have the three button combo use the DG ODIN that has the three button fix.
3) Do a master clear
4) In this point you have your phone like a brand new captivate on JF6. You can either use Kies or install CWM and install a new ROM.
5) I would recommend a new ROM that you like. Try one that you can flash directly with CWM because it is easier.

[Q] my captivate is one HOT MESS

cant get captivate into download mode now, but I have in the past.? weird to say the least. This phone actually even had cyanogenmod 7 on it at one time but it was a nightly and lots of things were glitchy so I took it back to stock rom with ODIN one click. I finally got it rooted with one click root again yesterday that I found on youtube but couldnt install rom manager due to parsing issue incompatibilities with my version of the android market and 2.1 eclair. Rom manager was not on my version of android market so I'm pretty lost as to how to get this phone back in order. I have the ODIN one click program and was going to go back to stock but now I cant get it into download mode for some reason. I have tried holding every button and removing battery and connecting USB while standing on my head, LOL.??!! is there something you can do while trying to root a phone that can disable the ability to get into download mode? Have I broke it for good?What I'm trying to do is root and install recovery like clockworkmod and maybe one of cyanogenmods stable roms. or some type Jelly bean rom. I am currently still at 2.1 (update-1) android. Tried Kies and it would never connect with my phone on my windows 7 PC so I couldnt update to 2.3.5. and tried to do an OTA update to 2.3.5 and it said and I quote that I had used all my attempts to update and had to wait 24 hrs and try again!?
I have found several good tutorials on how to root and install CWM from android 2.3.5 but havent found alot of tutorials that give instructions on how to go from 2.1 android. There is sooooo much out there online on these phones that it's confusing and I'm stuck and all I want to do is wipe the phone out completely, root, clockworkmod and install a stable rom. Phone is now stuck saying twlauncher has stopped unexpectedly not working I'm stuck please help if you can. HOT MESS HERE!
