I have been flashing phone roms for awhile now, but have never heard the term eMMC. It is confusing me as flashing to this seems just like flashing a phone. I am wondering if this is correct, does eMMC flashing do the same thing to the file system that flashing a phone would do?
Yes eMMC = Nook's internal memory.
As opposed to an external SD card for example.
Thanks, new term so I just wanted to make sure before I did anything.

Like the topic says I need to root my phone without internal or external SD card access.
I would like to do this so I can try to backup my nv_user and related files before I try another partition since I have had no luck finding a solution to being able to mount my external or internal sd cards.
I have the "Mount Point absent or incorrect." error dialog showing up in my status bar.
I tried searching for solutions to both problems but Have been unlucky so far.
For sgs u definitely have a internal sd.
you definitely have an internal sd-card. however if you want to do it without or have problems with it you can flash a kernel+su with odin: thread on samdroid

Phone says neither them are mounted. Same as in the recovery mode. When I check the sd card and memory in the settings menu both are unavailable. It says I am running off 2 gigs of system memory.
So yes I have an internal sd card. It just won't mount and in recovery mode it won't be found.
That's why I said it wouldn't mount. Not that it didn't exist.
I trying not to flash the phone until I can make a back up of thee nvdata files. So I will check the kernel flash and hopefully it won't effect the nvdata. But I'm guessing it does.
I should have stated a different Title for this thread as my real problem is either Int/Ext SD card corruption or something else deeper within the phone.
I will try formatting it with ubuntu like someone else suggested. That will have to wait until I get home and take a bit since I have no linux experience.
Also, the memory *2gb is showing is labelled as Internal Phone Storage.
Thanks
I'm assuming this has to do with the fact that your phone wont flash anyfirmware after JPC right?
Let me know how it goes.
I can flash but it took some messing around. None of the other firmwares even the stock bell one are stable now and I have no access to either the int or ext sd card. Just the 2gb internal non-sd memory. And after JPC my signal is pretty messed up.
My (wifes) phone now also says internal sd card unavailable.
Is there a solution to this? Happened after I upgraded from JH2 to JM6. The same upgraded process worked on my phone (followed the guide exactly).
Guys, just have a look around these forums or use the search button. This is the most common issue with the I9000M and there is no need for another thread about it.
Hi,
[EDIT: Yes external SDcard is required for storage in CM7]
I successfully installed CM7/14 recently on internal flash, with Dalingrin's
1'st 3/8/11 OC kernel. It runs pretty well.
One issue I am unclear on and am having problems searching for the answer:
Is an external SDCard expected to be installed for storage?
Some of the applications I am trying to run, for example "ezPDF Reader", fail on
starting saying "Can't access SD Card" and "ROM manager" gives a similar
warning message.
So either:
1. I missed a step somehow in installation, related to remapping external
SDcard to internal memory (the /mnt/emmc partition I assume).
2. Some apps are just broken (perhaps related to compatibility mode?)
3. CM7 (Gingerbread) is assuming an external SDcard is always present?
Thanks in Advance,
Peter
yes after having installed CM7 with the bootable sdcard you will in fact need/want a sdcard in the device while running CM7 so you have storage. That said I would NOT use the sdcard you have setup for installing/flashing ROMs. Otherwise it turns into a pain in the neck if something goes wrong and you need to reflash for some reason.
speaking for myself as I like to play around and flash different stuff all the time I have 4 different sdcards for use in my Nook. One 16Gb setup to boot and run Honeycomb right from the sdcard. I have another for storage ( 32Gb) when I'm running a ROM that is installed on the eMMC. The other 2 cards are bootable sdcards for installing and backing up. One is setup for ext4 like what is used on CM7, the other I have is also bootable but has CWR 3.0.0.5 for ROMS that DO NOT use ext4 and only use ex2/ext3.
I want to root my Nook 1.1.0 but it looks like it doesn't boot from SD card.
I tried couple SDs (2Gb and 4Gb) and burn them with couple images for Autonooter 3 (and 2 too as act of desperation).
I can see files on the SDs in Windows and in Nook.
I power off Nook completely with SD inside and plug it into the PC usb.
It supposed to run some script... I waited an hour and nothing happen.
Then Nook boots in regular Nook mode.
I assume that it's something with my SDs.
4Gb is class 4 SD. I burned it with different burner programs - result is the same.
Is there some way to determine that Nook boots from SD?
Maybe MBR is erased or something like this?
I formatted card in Windows and never did it in Nook.
So, I hope MBR (is it even used?) is OK but I want to be sure somehow.
Any suggestions?
What software are you using to burn the image onto the sd card?
You should be using winimage running in administrator mode.

Um you say the nook didn't do anything and then booted normally..... that sounds like it did everything right. Autonooter dose not show anything on the screen when you boot from it. you will get a blank screen for a bit and then it will boot to normal..... Have you checked to see if your nook is rooted?
I used winimage. I can see files in Windows and Nook.
Funny thing is that *.img file is so big but real files on SD are small.
I assume it's empty space what is in img file.

I assume it should show some Android stuff. Correct?
What I see is regular Nook screens.
therealguppy has a point. You may be rooted and not know it yet. Go into the apps drawer and look for the super user app. If it's there, you're rooted. Autonooter doesn't change your launcher or anything else so obvious.

You mean EXTRAS?
There is nothing new here. 8 apps from Chess to Sudoku.
No super user app.
hmmmm... that is strange. As unlikely as you may think it would be, you must have goofed up a step. The nook color is, by way of hardware, hard-coded to boot to the Micro SD-card if a bootable partition exists.
It's crazy unlikely that your nook is somehow flawed and cannot boot to a sd-card.
I would first try and download and burn one of the SD-card bootable roms just to make sure that you are able to boot off of it.
Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989637
OR
Burn a bootable Clockworkmod SD-card to also test that you're able to boot.
go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922870
and get one of the "Download a bootable Clockwork SD card (128mb, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb) here:"
If you want another set of step-by-step instructions, I have the time to write one up.
hi, im having the same problem as akizub and i think it may be booting from the sd card. ive tried rooting from all the different firmwares, ive tried different images, winimage, win32diskimage, ubuntu dd, ive even tried buying a new micro sd. i cant figure out whats wrong. ive seen all the youtube videos and instructions
Same Problem here with 1.1/auto-nooter 3.0.0
I'm having the same problem.
Don't think it's an issue with the SD card as I can see the SD files from the Nook after it boots
Wrote the SD using Win32diskimager. This must be working as I can see the files on the SD on both the Nook and the PC. Don't see how a block copy can miss anything!
I'm using auto-nooter 3.0.0
The Nook nook boot looks identical with or without the SD.
Maybe another level of security by BN ?
Just a crazy thought....are you making sure to have the correct versions?
Autonooter 3 NEEDS to be run on stock 1.1.... not 1.0.1 or 1.0.0.
Just thinking that would explain things.
Sent from my rooted stock 1.1 Nook with XDA Premium.
When all else fails, RTFM.
Versions OK
Yep .. Nook is at 1.1.0. autonooter 3.0.0
SD card is a 4GB SanDisk which other people seem to have used.
I'm assuming there is a low level loader in the Nook that attempts to load a boot block in a certain device order. Is it possible they changed that?
Yeah I am running into the same problem, I returned my nook for a few defects and now my new one won't boot from the sd card. Its running 1.1.0... one thing I have noticed that is different is that it seems to boot up faster than my old one did...
Edit:
Its working now, it wasn't partitioning the sd card for boot, was using my phone as card reader, switch to an actual card reader and new sd card and it worked.
Problem was solved.
It was fact that my SD was not bootable.
I tried something simple and reliable like CW recovery. Win32diskimager didn't want to burn disk complaining that it was too small. I tried to burn 1Gb to 2Gb, 4Gb and 16 Gb SDs and it was telling me - not enough disk space.
Then I used winiamge and was fine.
After I saw that CW was booting fine I burned autonooker again and then it started to work.
So, make sure that your SD is bootable by doing some simple and reliable image burning.
on my Nook running the nightly builds it will read the SD card fine until i reboot for what ever reason. then it sees the card as full and wont do anything with it until i format the card
ATT i am flashing the latest build, just want to see if anyone else has the same issue?
Running CM7 from eMMC or SD? When you say "full", do you really mean read-only? What's the exact symptom(s)?
Rodney
ya i am running CM7 from eMMC, and now that i think about it is is like it goes in to read only mode. when i check it in settings after i get a "You don't have enough space" message, it shows the card full. but i will only have like 300mb( of the 1gb card i use) of files
could it be some type of background Vram or something, i can easily get a bigger card
I have a partially bricked Nook HD that will boot into recovery but any attempt to install ROMs on it will fail do to some sort of faulty EMMC partition arrangement. What is unexpected is that every one of the SD Card bootable custom ROMs fails due to problems with EMMC.
My question is: I understand why EMMC installations fail, but why do the bootable SD Card ROMs fail when the EMMC partitions are botched up? It doesn't make sense to me.

Unless specifically built the SDcard version use EMMC for temp and other things. There are versions for bricked devices and they use a trick to make the OS think EMMC is there.

Hey that sounds really cool! I have yet to find one of those builds. Do you know of any? I can tell you that the N2A cards do not work on this Nook.
I'm looking for an image that I can burn onto an SD Card since I can't put a full ROM on the internal memory using the current SD Card builds from the awesome folks on this forum.
Thanks in advance.

Are there any of these that let me install the image from the SD Card instead of using adb push? The SD Card bootable image is around 120 megabytes, but the images are almost 200 megabytes now. I think it might save a step.
Thanks in advance, again!!

You can put the image onto the 3rd partition (ext4 type) in /data/media and will be visible on install from /sdcard.
Need to do it after trying to boot from it once in the nook so that all the partitions are created.

I did just that and it worked great. Under the windows I use utility Paragon ExtFS to enter and write in Ext4 partition, the registration is free if anyone need it. I will really like if someone can make kitkat version for our emmcless tablets. Or if can verygreen make sd stock 2.2. work on our emmcless tablets. I have try it the way it is now and it did not work.
