I have a rooted NC with 1.0.1. If i update using the BN download to 1.1.0 will i have to re-root or will I still have root access? (Yes, I have looked around for this answer before posting; maybe I just missed it.)
Yes, you will need to reroot

So a co-worker of mine has his up on this and is able to get into the free B&N in store features while I have the same setup as he does but yet cannot see these features. Id really love to be able to use the "Read for free for an hour" feature.
Any ideas on what i can check?
Thanks,
there are a couple of different ways to root on 1.1. did you both use the same method of rooting?
I really want to figure this out as well..I'm on the verge of rooting. I want to know which of the following methods will result in BN in-store features being accessible:
1. Root from 1.0.1 using either:
a. Barebones Nooter
b. Autonooter
And then upgrade via CWM recovery to the stock rooted 1.1 rom....
OR
2. Root via Autonooter 3.0.0 from stock 1.1.
The problem with method 2 is that it is supposedly resulting in a reboot loop if clockworkmod is installed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Aha! We have some info here. I just rooted mine with Autonooter but also flashed the prenooted 1.1.0 via Clockwork. In the other thread relating to this issue, another user suggested that this allowed him to have in-store access.
The catch here is that flashing CWR with autonooter 3.0 puts the device into a bootloop with CWR. I used the CWR remover tool to get rid of that.
After work in about 2 hours or so, I'll try to stop by a local BN and see if I have the in-store features.
UPDATE: I tested this out and it worked. Looks the prerooted 1.1 is doing something right.

Or autonooter is doing something wrong.
Maybe autonooter caused all the in store access issues in the first place.
Everyone thought b&n 1.1 fixed it, but maybe since no one was autonootering 1.1 until recently, autonooter didn't have a chance to break it.
Looks like whatever autonooter does, the preroot 1.1 fixes.
Not necessarily. There is another thread in here, but I have 1.1v2 and no instore features.
-1.0
-sideloaded 1.0.1
-Nooter v2
-then autonooter
-then flashed 1.1 v2
Leko
I have v2 and no in store either.
Bought stock 1.0
updated to 1.01
autonootered
prerooted 1.1r2
cwr to 1.1 ghz rom
Went to B&N today and no in-store special access to B&N features.
Did you guys without in store features after rooting, use the in store features before rooting?
What worked for me, before updating a clean 1.0.1 to 1.1, I used the in store features, then sideloaded 1.1 then used autonooter 3.0. I tried in store features afterwards and it works for me.

I restored my NC to stock 1.0.1. Sideloaded 1.1.0. Prepped Auto-Nooter 3.0 on a microSD and then I went to a physical BN store. Had in-store features with my 1.1.0 unrooted and downloaded a book to read. Then I used my microSD with Auto-Nooter to root my 1.1.0 NC in the BN store (lol). After rooting, I had Market, Youtube, etc... but lost in-store.
My NC came with 1.0.1, I sideloaded 1.1 and rooted with Autonooter 3. Today, I finally had a chance to go to a B&N store to test the "in store" function. NC connected to store WiFi immediately and a popup message told me that I could read certain books for up to 1 hour in the store and provided a link to those books. Then, "shop" interface opened showing many books and an "in store" banner at the corners of them. Under the "price" button, there was another one that said "read in store". So far, everything was fine and I was getting ready to read it... When I tapped on the read in store button, another window showed up with a progress bar, a cancel button and a continue button; however, the bar never progressed and the continue button was grayed out (the only available button was "cancel" which took me back to the store). I tried this with 8-10 books, but the results were the same. I guess it is safe to assume that I dont have the in store functions any more
"There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device"
OK - I have a Nook that was purchased at 1.00. I registered with BN.
Then I used NookColor_v1.1.0_r2.zip to root it.
I installed Market and got ADB to work. Life was great.
I think life started turning south when I went to the BN marketplace and purchased a book. In the middle of reading it, I got the dreaded "There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device".
Fortunately, I had backed up my ROM using ROM Manager. So, I re-installed my ROM and it wasn't long before I got the message again. I feel like I'm now in an endless loop of resetting my device. I'm not sure how to get out of it. I've read several threads on this subject that simply leave me confused at this point. I'm looking for guidance. I LOVED my rooted Nook Color while it lasted. I don't like it stock. I'm looking for help.
I've been rooted on 1.0.1 since Christmas, and shortly after I first rooted, I had this happen to me too. There were others affected as well. Back then, we didn't have the recovery image, so I just set everything back up by hand. Since then it hasn't happened to me.
I haven't dug further, but I would guess that there is something that B&N doesn't like in the rooted image, but after a reset, it was happy again. Again, this was with my 1.0.1 root and an earlier rev of Autonooter, but this may be a way out of the loop you're in.
I had the same problem and assumed that it was because BN authorization puts a file on your NC that is date sensitive and if you do a restore (I was using titanium backup) and put an older file in place it will trip this reset scenario. I did a reroot with autonooter 3.0 and restored everything but any BN apps or data and the problem is gone.
Same thing just happened to me too. Going to restore and re-root later today.
I just went through the same problem as well. Tried out Nookie Froyo on emmc. Liked the Nook stock interface better. Tried restoring via CWM and get the "There was a problem with authorization. Please wait while we reset your device" error. Tried it twice and got the same error twice as soon as it connects to wifi.
Ended up having to flash back to stock and start the rooting process all over again. And now it seems to be fine.
Happened to me two weeks ago and I kept restoring. That's the problem, when I restored back to an older rom. Just root it again, restore the apps manually by dling off the market or through Astro. Don't restore the whole thing through CW. It worked for me because I haven't had the problem since then.

It happened to me as well funny thing was that I had a 1.1.0 never rooted Nook Color and I rooted with AutoNooter 3.0.0 and it happened within 24 hours. There was no restoring backups or anything. Any ideas?

Again, my guess is that there is something in the rooting process that trips the reset. If you allow the reset to proceed without restoring the whole rom (Titanium restores should be fine) then you likely won't see it again. It's a little tedious, but should be ok... I've been running rooted for over a month with 1.0.1, and aside from the first reset, it's been smooth sailing.

I allowed it to reset but when it came back I was missing several crucial applications such as gmail, the android market and youtube. The rest (that are included in the root) were there. But I was lost without those applications and believed that a full rom reset was needed. Would there have been another way?
Using Titanium Backup, backup only User apps and data. Do not backup System apps and/or data. When you get back up from the reset and re-root, only restore User apps and data.
Maybe you can restore the ROM and backup just the User apps and data. Remove the SDcard. and then let it reset, or reset it to stock yourself. Get it back to how you want the base, root, install TiBu then restore your User apps and data.
Shameless plug: if you haven't already, buy Titanium Backup. It can be a life saver, or at least a sanity saver. I have no affiliation with the author, just a fan of the program.

Got home today, and my NC had updated to 1.3.
Lost root. Despaired at lack of reliable info on rooting 1.3.
Took a gamble on manualnooter 4.6.16 with CWM.
It rooted 1.3, and other than re-entering my google account for market, everything is working great. SetCPU reports 800MHz (I don't have a need to OC, I use SetCPU for throttling only).
Thought I would add to the anecdotal evidence.
Device history:
Stock 1.0.1 -> upgrade to 1.1 stock
Stock 1.1 -> AutoNooter
When 1.2 came out, restored to factory then upgraded via CWM (from SD).
Stock 1.2 -> ManualNooter 4.6.16 via CWM
automatic update to 1.3 -> lost root
Stock 1.3 -> ManualNooter 4.6.16 via CWM
Added google account info back into Market. Success installing an app...
there was some time between 1.2 and 1.3 (about a month)
Still can't get ADB over USB - haven't tried ADB wireless yet.

So installing MN again to NC 1.3 made your Market working again?

Yes, the Market worked fine, but I had to re-entere my google account/password.
I don't know if it makes any difference, but before the 1.3 upgrade, my Nook was running the new Market release. I did not manually install the Market release, it updated itself.
(sorry if that doesn't read well).
I have a nook HD rooted and ota blocked with unknown sources enabled. I am on stock 2.1.0 if i unroot and allow ota, Will I have to reinstall all my apps?, If i do, can I make a back-up and just redo my data and apps, how is best way to hadle these tasks. Will I lose anything by undoing root and ota?

When I was using Stock, I upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 with no issues.
I did not un-Root and all my apps and settings carried over. Root still worked, but I think I needed to reload the Unknown Sources.
Though I have to say, I'm FAR happier with CM10.2 (Android 4.3) than I ever was with Stock. I've found that most apps that were giving me problems on Stock 2.1/2.2 will now work perfectly under CM10.2, not to mention the seemingly infinite more ways to customize the tablet. But a heads up, if you do go the CyanogenMod route, you will have to start over.

You can go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and flash the plain stock 2.2.0 from item 6. If you do not wipe, all your apps will be there. Root will be broken but unknown sources stick. So just flash the rev3 of Universal Root and everything will be good. You get automatic ota block with rev3 of Universal Root also.
