I seem to be having an issue applying the rc29 dreaming.nbh, once i get to the screen where it says"press power to update or action to quit", the power button doesnt work niether does any of the buttons, i have to pull the battery to get it to reboot. The buttons do work when the phone is on. Im kinda puzzled. Ive rooted 6 of these G1's with no major problems. This is the first time ive came accross this issue and searched the forums and didnt see anyone else that had the same problem. It sees the dreaming.nbh file, but cant get the power button to work to apply it, the keyboard doesnt work either to press enter or any other button in the blue/grey screen. the sdcard is formatted with 3 partitions as well. It currently has tmo android 1.6, cant figure this one out. Also gave the One-Click-Root apk a shot just to see i could get around applying rc29 and it didnt work either. Any one have any Ideas?
Did you reformat your sd card to FAT32? Mine came as Fat16 which it wouldn't recognize. I had skipped that step since it was already formatted with a FAT filesystem and it wouldn't work until I reformated as FAT32.
Yeah I formatted it with the phone.It sees the file, i just cant get the power button to work while to apply the image but it works when the phone is on.

I cant leave the damn screen where it shows Click power for update & action button to cancel. When i update it fails at the end & i cannot leave this screen. I wish to go to my home screen so i can fix the failure..
okay so when my n1 is in sleep, it takes like 3 tries to wake it up. The first time I press the unlock button the unlock screen comes and then goes back to sleep instantly. The second time the lights for the back menu home and search light up and that's it. the third time it works. I'm on froyo. anyone else with this problem?

Sometimes just the capacitive buttons light up and not the screen. I have to make 2 or 3 tries to get it to turn on. Its rare, but its there. It only happened on 2.2.

mine doesnt always turn anything on at all. sometimes the light go on, others nothing. Also trying to turn off the phone is hard as it sleeps straight away with out opening up the power menu.
I have a stock N1, which recently updated to Froyo, with the same problem.
any ideas would be great!

Also happens on CM 5.0.7.1.
i think it may be a hardware button issue.
I have tried turning mine off (had to pull the battery out) and then to turn it on.
It should turn on readily as it has nothing to do with the OS at that point.
any ideas?
No HW button issue described. HW button works - if it didn't, lights wouldn't go on. It's a wrong reaction on the button, at least that's what OP describes (and me too).
Your N1's power button is dying, it's a known HARDWARE issue. I experienced all of that what you may think a software bug, nut dear friends, prepare to meet HTC or Google for warranty. My N1's power button is dead, I couldn't swap for a new one because I bought it in my country where no official distributor for N1 yet. Sad!
ps: you may try to search for "N1 power button" and see there are more and more reports about this problem.
I've read more than one or two threads on power button issues, and I know what I'm talking about. My power button DOES power up the phone when the battery is taken off the first shot, it DOES wake the phone from standby, it DOES register long presses - there was even one time when a second press was long, and suddenly the screen woke up with power menu, while the first press left it dark with touch button light going on.
Doesn't look even a bit like HW to me. HW would leave the phone dead, non-responsive to touches, or create a loose touch which would translate into several touches - none of those would EVER turn into a phone being on with screen off, and suddenly snapping back to screen on when the SCREEN is touched several times.
Could be your cpu was too busy to accept any inputs.

Take your time! As for me, I'm using my N1 for 3 months now for the power button to completely dead with everyday use (I didn't use any app to trackball-wake).
As I said, all the things you are yelling I have been through. And I, too, thought it was software problem.
I tried both MCR and Cya with no hope.

Corrupt SD Card
I had the same issue. I'd press the power button, the bottom four buttons would light up but no screen wake. Only way to get out of it was to pull the battery. It would happen maybe 30-40% of the time. (Nexus One Froyo FRF72)
I think it was due to a corrupt MicroSD card. I recently installed a 32gb card and put some music on it using songbird and possibly didn't safely remove. That's when I started getting issues. Removed the SD card completely and it worked fine. Changed back to the old card and no issues. Then formatted the 32gb and tried again, worked fine. Then I tried to transfer more music, there was an error and I got the same problem. (Cheap ebay card from Hong Kong, that'll teach me).
Anyway, I'd be interested to know if that solved anyone else's problem, because all I see on forums are that it's a faulty power button, but that didn't seem to be the case in my situation.

Mine is doing kinda the same weird thing but a little different.
When I push the power button the screen comes on but is unresponsive to touch. If I press the power button again the screen dims and then turns off, the home keys light up and then the trackball glows white. The phone then does not respond to the power button for around 10 secs and repeats this behavior 4 or 5 times until it actually starts working correctly and I can swipe my finger to get to the home screen.
It usually does this after being inactive for a period of time, like after sitting overnight.

i have almost the same issue, although mine happened twice when i was on EPE54B but it's been far more common on FRF91
the only difference is my power will continue to turn the back light on and off no matter if the screen has already timed out or not

I have exactly the same issue. Over in the general forum, there's another thread on this issue. Many, myself included, are reporting that this problem started after the FRF91 update. Can you confirm?

Read again carefully. Are you sure your hardware problem was identical to what the OP described? I've noticed a lot of people with obvious hardware problems (i.e., the power button is completely unresponsive) posting on threads like this when they actually have a different problem. It's very confusing.

PS: Are you guys getting the unresponsive unlock slider like britoso describes?
I had this problem when I first flashed CM6 yesterday. Even after wiping and reflashing it was the same. Only way to get out of the black screen was to do a soft reset, power + vol down + trackball. I finally found out that my SD card malfunctioned and was corrupt. I tried reformatting the sd card in an microsd card reader but windows said it could not be reformatted. I finally switched back to another microsd card that was working, wipe and reflashed cm6 and the problem went away. Try backing up all the data on your microsd onto your computer then reformat it and wipe then reflash to see if it works
Edit: ughhhh it just happened again, but not as bad as before, turns back on after second try... maybe i didnt press the trackball hard enough
Having an odd issue with my Nook (rooted with Auto-Nooker).
When I power it off, I cannot seem to power it back on with the power button, unless I plug the USB cable in first. Any ideas? Is this normal? Thanks.
I had problems the first couple of power ups, then is started acting normal.
I just got ny nook last night and when i tried to wake it up this morning i had to plug it in. I hope it fixes itself soon.

Silly question perhaps, but a few people have forgotten... Did you remove the SD card with the Auto Nooter image and reformat it? Otherwise it will boot into that every time you try to turn it on.

I was having the same issue in the beginning. Even without the sd card inserted, I'd have that issue. It seems to be fine now, though.
Are we supposed to see the Nook color custom boot animation with the little android guy on the bottom right, though? I thought it was just part of the rooting/setup.

Everytime I have rebooted I have seen that boot screen, so it should be normal
I have taken my card out and reformatted it. My issue is more so when i leave my nook alone for a long period of time and it is just sitting in sleep mode. I have to hold the power button to get it to come back on(it reboots).

I think that is intended, pretty sure you had to push the power button for a second or two stock as well... reduce accidental power ons?
Seems odd, but I found a way to start up my Nook Color without having to plug in the USB. If I press and hold the Home button for a few second, then press the power button, it'll come on.
The custom logo is a standard part of the rooting process. If you don't like it, you can revert to the standard by moving or renaming /data/local/bootanimation.zip
I have an AT&T unlocked Nexus One that I recently flashed to CM-7.0.3-N1 . I have had a problem unlocking the device with the power button both when I was running stock Gingerbread and now that I have installed CM7.
When the screen is off and my N1 is in standby, I push the power button and the screen turns on and then back off almost immediately. Sometimes there is a half second delay before the screen turns on and then off. This usually goes on 2 or 3 times until the screen will stay on and I can unlock my phone.
Has anyone seen or heard of this problem, and maybe knows of a fix? It could be hardware related, but the button definitely sends a signal to the phone and it works fine to shutdown or turn on the device from completely off. Thanks.
ummm the power button on the nexus one has an incredibly high failure rate, all over the forum here. its a design defect from the factory. that's why it has always been recommended to root the device immediately, and use trackball wake, so you avoid using the power button as much as possible. you have to send the device to HTC for repair, that's your only option...

You are already running a rooted rom with track all wake. Use it. To reboot the the phone use quickboot. At this stage you really don't need the power button on your phone.

This is a problem with CM7. Most advise turning off the screen off animation if it becomes a big problem for you. Make sure you are using the newest nightly and hope for a fix. I don't know if the RC's have this problem, but I would bet it appears on the 7.0.3 release.

Also you can use widget locker to lock the screen then the trackball to wake, with that and quickboot I don't even touch my power button anymore. Although your problem doesn't sound like a broken power button so in your position I would switch ROMs and see what happens.

I'm experiencing exactly this too on the latest RC. It doesn't seem to be complete button failure but it's acting like I've pressed it twice sometimes. Disabling the screen-on animation does seem to prevent it from popping back on. But it still sometimes goes on-then-off when I wake it with the power button. So now I'm using trackball wake too.
As others have mentioned, this does not sound like a powerbutton issue, because the powerbutton still turns on the screen. The problem is that the screen turns off immediately after it turns on.
When you flashed 7.0.3, did you come from a previous CM verison? From stock? My first suggestion would probably be to wipe the /system partition (in CWM, it is under mounts and storage -- with Amon_RA, you need to find a flashable zip to do it) and reinstall CM and gapps. This will not cause any data loss. Sometimes, if you install a new ROM over an old one, the upgrade script in CM can get confused and carry over files that aren't supposed to be carried over. The system wipe fixes that.
I've been using this RC since it came out in late June. Only this week did it start flipping out on me.

I'm currently using S2E for apps2ext and some data2ext. How would a system wipe and reinstall interact with that? I'm a bit nervous on that front.
A system wipe shouldn't change any of that. It is one benefit of using S2E as it is a standard app that is stored in the /data partition without any changes to the /system partition.
Anyway, to be safe, it is a good idea to do a nandroid backup anytime you are doing something that involves the majority of the features in recovery.
It's a hardware problem for me. Failed completely as of today.

My power button seems to be in the process of completely failing. The new CM7 update to 7.1.0 has made it possible for me to lock the screen without using the power button using the "Notification power widget" -> "Go to sleep". Now the only times I have to use the power button are to shut the phone down or wake it up, which seems to be easier when the phone is plugged in to a wall charger. Are there any simple apps for shutting the phone down and maybe waking it up at a set time?
The only reliable trick I found to turn it back on was to plug into the wall and take the battery out/in a few times till it vibrated.
I ended up getting a replacement phone and then I sent the Nexus to HTC. They quoted a $55 repair cost off warranty which my credit card insurance would've covered, but when I asked for an invoice they offered to just waive the charges. Finally over a month later it came back fixed.
The app Easy Reboot can shut the phone down.

I also use an app called Lock Screen, which just locks the screen. I have it stored in my dock, because I don't like the space being used in the notification widget.
CM7 has an option for one of the items in the notification tray widget to be a lock screen button.

THANK YOU!!!! This has been driving me crazy. Turning off the screen-off animations did nothing, but turning off the screen-on animation seems to have fixed the issue. My power button is toast (my new power button ribbon cable just arrived... time for surgery), and I've been using the trackball to wake my phone. Before the power button died, it did the same thing. I'm using CM7.2. I installed it after rooting and went straight to cm7.2 from stock, so obviously the cyanogemnod crew haven't fixed the issue since 7.0.3 when this thread started.
I have noticed two bugs in verygreen's Nook HD+ Firmware:
1. The screen flashes on and off when I use the tablet while it is plugged into the wall.
2. The wifi will cut off, and not automatically come back on the device after a period of no usage.
Other than that, the firmware is great, please keep up the great work verygreen and XDA community!
I'd like to add that I (and at least one other person on the Slick Deals forum) have an issue with the lock screen not unlocking after waking from sleep sometimes. When I unlock, it looked unlocked for less than a second, then back to the lock screen.
It repeats over and over. The fix is to hit the power button to put it to sleep and wake normally.

I have the same problem. I use a magnet case though. My fix is to close and open the magnet case. The power button does NOT fix it.
