Well here goes.
If your talking about from a recovery.
1st stept read a little.
2nd stept read a lot.
3rd step read a lot more
Not trying to be rude but making a nand backup and doing a nand restore is a crucial component to rooting your phone. The ability alone is a method strictly designed to benefit you as the user. This is a method which has great advantages and is worth taking the time to read and research about to gain and harness its rewards. With that being said. If your using Ra1.6/1.7
1st
Boot into recovery via
Power down your phone and hold power and home untill you see your recovery.
Or
Power down your phone and hold volume down and power. A second screen will appear and from there press the home button. Once in recovery scroll down to backup/restore. From there choose nand backup. When its done press the back button. From there reboot back into rom. Now to perform the restore. Boot back into recovery. Then either wipe or don't wipe user choice. But I recommended wiping before restoring a nand backup. With that being said once into your recovery choose backup/restore. From there choose nand restore. Wait until its finished and then reboot. And you have successfully restored a back up. If your using clockwork mod recovery then you'll have to read because my experience is very limited with that recovery. Good luck.

I know how to make and restore a backup. Maybe I wasn't specific on asking if I should wipe anything. Thanks anyways.

Hmm, clockwork, huh? Well, I'm no help, then. Don't use it myself, never have. Sorry.

I always wipe data, cache, and dalvik three times before a restore or any rom change. Clears any lingering data.

What you need to do is load the zip file onto the root of your memory card. Then, power off the phone, and hold the volume down button and then hold the power button. Then go to backup/restore then nand backup. Then when the backup is complete, go to wipe and then wipe the handset by selecting the first option. Then go to flash from SD and select the rom. And if you flash the gapps, do that after flashing the rom. Then, after flashing is complete, go to reboot phone. It will then boot into your new rom. Its a great Rom. I'm running it now. And typing this tutorial for you on the xda app.

THIS is assuming you are rooted already.

How would you describe clean? Like using the 1 click stock odin by just pressing start or master wipe?
I would say a nandroid backup after full wipe, stock rooted.

I will try it tomorro if you can tell me what it wipes. Like is it just the 2gb sd card or the 16gb one too
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
Thanks. I think it would only wipe your data/factory reset in recovery. Are you using clockwork? Should leave sdcard alone. You could use titanium backup to save everything prior to wiping. If you unsure don't reset just on my account.

Revert keyboard from 2.3 keyboard to 2.2

ive been searching every where on how to do this with out reflashing my rom. i did a nandroid but i updated the recovery so i cant use that it gives me some suggestion to do it via adb. if there is no other way to get it back i guess i will go about it that way but if there is a apk available that will be much more appreciated!

will give it a shot thanks
EDIT: Works great! thank you so much
Glad it's resolved, but I don't see why an updated recovery would preclude you from restoring the nandroid backup. In Clockwork recovery you can go to Advanced Restore and restore only the System partition from the recent backup.

wouldn't the restore overwrite the current recovery in place?

Recovery is not part of the system partition, and in typical nandroid backups it is not even imaged as part of the backup.
Tried link in OP, just goes to Drop Box login.??
That's because I remove the file after a while...

Question about Bootstrapper and Clockwork Mod

I'm fairly new to the rooting business but I've been treading lightly. I have a few newbish questions that I need answering, and I thank you in advance.
Today, using Psouza's Moto-1-click tools, I restored my /system/app to its stock state, unrooted, reformatted, and then installed 5.6.890 (the official OTA version), followed by re-rooting.
I wished to make a full backup of the complete stock system, and so I purchased "Droid 3 Bootstrap" from the Android Market. I proceeded to boot into Recovery Mode and created a backup of my now stock system. I also went ahead and downloaded "ClockworkMod Recovery" from the market and paid for the premium version. I noticed that I can also make a backup from "ClockworkMod Recovery" in the same way that I made a backup from "Droid 3 Bootstrap."
Question is this...what's the difference between the 2? I know that ClockworkMod Recovery gives me the capability to flash different ROMS, which is the reason I purchased it (awaiting future ROMS, figured I'd just download it now). But did I have to download Droid 3 Bootstrap Recovery as well? Couldn't I have just backed up using CWM Recovery?
Basically, I'd like to know the difference between the two...in the most basic explanation, if at all possible. I'm still learning about all this and I really enjoy it, but I'd like to have a full grasp of what I'm doing exactly.
Thank you in advance.

I'm assuming the 'clockworkmod recovery' app is rom manager. Rom manager is best for easily downloading roms (if the developer sets it up on there, not all roms will be on rom manager). I personally recommend against using rom manager to do backups/restore/rom installs because it is known to cause some issues. So, my advice, just do it all manually to avoid problems down the road. All you need is the d3 bootstrapper app

Correct, the "CWM Recovery" I kept referring to is indeed Rom Manager, my apologies. So, in a nutshell, what you're recommending is; use D3 Bootstrap to create your custom backup, and use Rom Manager specifically for Mods only...correct?
I think he's saying to not use rom manager at all. You can flash roms from cwm recovery.
Edit: just to clarify I mean by booting into recovery using the bootstrapper and flashing a rom from there to avoid any issues caused from the rom manager

I recommend to not even use the rom manager app, as everything can be done manually. Roms can be downloaded from forum sites. Just remember to do a wipe data/factory reset each time you flash a new rom. This prevents fc issues. On hashcodes blog you can get a modified version of the koush bootstrapper app that let's you enter recovery from bptools. That way if you screw up /system and can boot straight into recovery, restore a nandroid and you're good to go.

I appreciate the responses. Could you explain to me how the modified version of D3 Bootstrapper allows you to enter recovery in case of a bootloop? What is "bptools" and how is it accessed if the phone won't boot up?
Edit: Also, what type of problems have been seen when using Rom Manager to flash Roms as opposed to a Bootstrapper? Aren't they both created by the same Dev? I would assume Rom Manager is just a more user-friendly method to flash Roms since it's so self-explanatory in the app itself.
Again, I appreciate the time you guys are taking to help me understand this.

When your phone is powered off hold the m button on the keyboard then press the power buttong(keeping m pressed) you'll then get a list of boot options. Volume down scrolls while volume up selects. Bptools is at the bottom. When you go to bptools then press volume up and enter it you will boot to clockworkmod recovery. This only works with the modified bootstrapper app. This way is much safer because its possible to soft brick the phone with the normal koush recovery and not be able to enter recovery. You'd then need to flash the xml files. The normal bootstrap app requires that phone bootloop before the custom recovery will kick in. As for rom manager, its had problems wiping data/factory reset I think. You can still use it, there's just a possibility of of the rom not working properly

Nandroid backup

What exactly and how do I create a nandroid backup? I keep reading about it but not sure exactly what it is! I did make a backup using the cwm app that comes with chainfires kernel.... Is that a nandroid backup? Any help is greatly appreciated. I just want to have a backup incase i brick like many others have!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
The one you reboot into cwm then start? Yep, that's a nandroid backup.
I am not sure about ChainFire's CWM but boot into recovery
Vol Up + Home Button + Power button simultaneously while booting
Select backup from the CWM menu
Select full backup(there might only be one backup option)
Let it backup
You have just done a nandroid!
This is pretty useful as well and describes what it is:
