[Q] Who makes it? - Nook Color General

Do we know anything more about which manufacturer is actually behind the NC? I figured B&N branded the device but that some other company is the one that actually made it.

I believe the company (or atleast it's factories) are located in china.
but yes it's definitely a device made by someone other then b&n.
oddly enough I was looking at it beside my nexus one last night and was thinking how similar they looked in material and color and layout. I wonder how much more popular these would get it if they turned out to be HTC devices?

Right, in my mind when I saw "Barnes & Noble Nook" it made me think of...
"T-Mobile G2" (HTC)
or "T-Mobile Comet" (Huawei)
or "Google Nexus S" (Samsung)
or "Orange San Francisco" (ZTE)
and so forth. So I'm curious if it's made by some identifiable manufacturer that also markets some other devices through its own brand.

it was designed by yves behar and assembled by foxconn

according by google
it's is Inventec

I immediately though of BlendTec when I read that, lol

I did rather think that it matches my HTC Desire when I unpacked it.

Thanks for the information!

Believe it's Acer

Nexus One arrived DOA and I can’t get it replaced or a refund

I ordered a Nexus One from the Google Market through the developer program, When it arrived last Friday and was DOA.
I called Google Support they confirmed it was DOA and sent me to HTC for a replacement.
I called HTC and they have no record of IMIE or serial number of the phone and sent me to Brightstar the distributor for Google handling orders for Nexus One.
I left 3 voicemails and eventually received an email from them asking what was wrong. I emailed them back with the IMIE and the fact HTC could not help me.
Did not hear anything back, emailed them again on Monday. Got a short response saying she passed it on to Brightstar buyer.
Then nothing, I emailed Tuesday no response.
I called Google Wednesday and after they called Brightstar was told there was nothing more they could do and something would happen ‘soon’
I emailed Brightstar again and was told to contact HTC, although I had already done this I called again anyway and once again was told they have no record of the phone and because it is a developer phone I must go to Brightstar. Although HTC at least escalated the problem.
I emailed Brightstar 2 more times yesterday asking for a refund and have had no response at all.
So at the moment we are almost a week later and I have a DOA phone, they have my money and it appears no one wants to solve the problem…
Hey Google show some responsibility here.. YOUR name is on the phone and Brightstar is YOUR distributor.
Come on Google how do I get my money back?????
Via your credit card issuer.
I wouldn't worry too much, DOA is recognized everywhere as something that needs replacing/refunding. And as rusty said, if worst comes to worst use your credit card company.
Problem is I can't get anyone to assume responsibility for the replacement. Google says not them , Brightstar says HTC and HTC says Brightstar.
this senario seems very similar to the support thing before google opened a support site.
I agree with what others are saying. Give them a little more time to sort it out and then go to your credit card company and demand a charge back. It could be that they are still working out the kinks involved with selling the N1 as a developer phone.
on a side-note:
did the packaging of your N1 say AMOLED screen oder SLCD?
I'm thinking about buying another Nexus One and selling my AMOLED N1, but of course only if the dev phone has SLCD screen. (hate the Pentiles and color saturation of AMOLED).
visa can issue you a chargeback if you file a claim
Call up your CC company, they'll get in touch with Google, and you'll have your refund/replacement asap.

Thanks for the info!
I even contacted the company responsible for delivering the nexus one dev phone, and they told me that they haven't heard anything about an nexus one with slcd.
Well it was just some women from the customer support, i don't expect them to know such details but at least it seems like there are currently enough AMOLED screen N1 available trough dev program.
Good for those who still want AMOLED, bad for those who can't wait to give away their amoled version for an slcd with much better resolution....
Apparently google is out of stock.

oh really. so no more dev phone N1 available? that could mean that we will soon see the Nexus One SLCD emerge!
Did you pay with a credit card? Then tell them it is broke/DOA, you aren't paying for it and want your money back, get them involved.

Sorry to thread jack, but if you really want the Nexus One with an SLCD, your best best might be to find a way to purchase a Telus HTC Desire from Canada. It's only $449 off contract though I'm not sure how to actually buy one if you aren't a Telus client... ebay or kijiji.ca maybe?
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/AB/htc_desire/index.shtml?INTCMP=ILCq3htc
It's basically an N1 with an SLCD, only it's significantly cheaper, and it's still possible to run Cyanogen on it if you don't like Sense UI.

Edit: This phone is for AT&T 3G so if you are on T-Mobile this might not be useful to you.
Well I can get an HTC desire with slcd in Germany too. But will I be able to unlock the bootloader so I.can flash the stock froyo Rom and get all further updates OTA? Like on a real nexus one? I'm not that much interested in custom roms...
Thanks for the info!

Don't know why everybody wants SLCD. It's no better than AMOLED. Search for videos on youtube SLCD vs. AMOLED, the latter one is an obvious win.
The videos are a bad joke and nonsense, because you don't see the difference of resolution quality. The only thing you see is that AMOLEDS have deeper blacks but that's a given. I had a Motorola milestone, so I have a real live comparison between Amoled vs. lcd. And I know how much better lcds reproduces text and natural colours. Don't rely on bad YouTube videos to judge this.

That's perfectly fine. Some people prefer the over saturation of those AMOLEDS. But regarding resolution I just have to say one word: pentiles.

Official Nexus S Accessories???

How long do you think it will take Samsung to make Official Nexus accessories like how the original Nexus One had official accessories, car dock, cradle, etc?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I wouldn't be surprised if we actually receive none. Most likely BestBuy will contract with some crappy OEM manufacturer to produce any.
Also, I bought my brother the Tmobile vibrant when it was first released and he has had trouble finding any official accessories made by Samsung.
I could be wrong and hope I am since I prefer official accessories over third party ones.

Confirmed - Nexus S Desk Dock

i went to 3...THREE best buys to get a freaken screen protector.
first two were sold out on everything. So the third one in nyc i got it. (zagg...after a day of having it on..its GREAT, first day it looks like AIDS but you have to leave it absolutely alone and let it dry...so crisp)
anyways, first 2 places the guy/girl both said without me asking, dont worry, more is coming, including the desk dock.
EXCITEMENT. so the third one I brought it up and the guy agreed as well, showed me his nexus and said, 'yup..and im coming from a nexus one with all that jazz, hold on tight, its coming as well'
i just wish i brought up the car dock.
anyways, happy new years
Woot!!!
I can't wait until more accessories are available for the Nexus S. This platinum case from Best Buy is just not cutting it!!
Thanks for the info I really want the dock.

I'm also wondering how this will look like.
Dock should be functional, correct? Which means the micro-USB will somehow be utilized (charging, etc.).
My friend's Moto Droid dock works excellent because his micro-USB is on the side (horizontal), perfect for use as a desk clock or alarm clock.
The Nexus S's USB port is on the bottom, which means it might stand vertical? Not as attractive, but we will see.
I call bull**** until I see an official statement from Samsung... after all, you're hearing this from a Best Buy EMPLOYEE?!?!?!? LOL.
I'm kicking myself over this ...
I visited the Nexus S display at the Samsung booth (an underwhelming word for their gargantuan presence) at CES last week. I'd been on the road for almost a month and hadn't had a chance to handle the device yet. I was impressed enough to think about getting one for myself.
What's relevant to this thread is that Samsung had a brochure available with details of a complete line of Nexus S accessories including a multimedia desktop dock. From memory it's essentially the same as the one already available from Samsung for the Galaxy S: the Nexus S rests horizontally in the dock that has both a USB and audio port on the back. I assume the only real difference is that the USB connector used to connect to the phone is moved higher in the dock to account for the centrally located USB port on the bottom of the Nexus S.
I'm kicking myself because at the time I didn't think to keep a copy of the brochure or ask when the accessories would go on sale. I guess I assumed incorrectly that the accessories would be available at the same time the phone went on sale...
why didn't they just release this (along with other accessories) back when they originally launched the NS?? Makes no sense
Best Buy employees saying and "confirming" that a dock will be available? This is bad comedy.
Went to a local T-Mobile store last night and saw a Desk Dock on the shelf. Same one as the 3rd picture in this link. Didn't get it because I don't really need a desk dock. But figured I would pass it along here.

Next Nexus Phone OEM - Huawei?

A lot of rumours going around over who will make the next Nexus phone but this may be a solid one.
I Personally have not had any experience with any Huawei products so I can't say whether this excites me or not.
Would still prefer Sony to have a go.

Lets hope not.
I find it hard to believe that they would leave it in the hands of a successful brand but not as successful as any other OEM they could have if they wish to.
hmm

To build a Nexus which is supposed to have specs of a flagship phone and a killer price tag, how about giving OnePlus a try to manufacture it?

Also, don't let them increase the market share
Just a rumor with nothing behind it. The specs are obviously made up (Snapdragon 820 in 2015 and 6000mAh battery lol) and we've seen thousands of these fake concepts in the past.

Why would you want a nexus with a sub par SOC?
i like to see LG again, but in the end i dont care much what manufacturer builds it. i dont care if chinese, russian, taiwanese or japanese.
but please, not Motorola. i just dont like that Design.
anyway, i guess nothing will beat the timeless nexus 5 design. just give me a better camera and a thicker battery :cyclops:
this could be good news actually. one sure thing is that its going to be more affordable. the one reason that kept me away from n6 is the price tag.
if Huawei is making the next nexus, then count me out. I'll stay with my N5.
would like to try it out as long as it does not have any "baidu" in it, besides smartphone market is having loads of competition from japan and Korea let see what the Chinese make of things

Motorola Experimental Nexus 6 Confidential Property?

Hey guys, I seem to have fallen into a unique device. I managed to get my hands on a Motorola Experimental Nexus 6 that had Moto's development software on it so I flashed stock 5.1 it has labeled on the bottom...Motorola Confidential Property Not For Sale. It has the Motorola Logo upper left corner and 0411-23666 in the upper right corner with a chip inscription as well. The back of the device doesn't even have Nexus on it. See picts 64gb XT1100. I already have a 64gb xt1103 so I kinda don't know which one i should sell on swappa. Any sugestions I plugged in my T-Mo sim card and it works fine so no provider issues to speak of but which device should I keep? Does this thing have collector value?? Your thoughts?
swappa or ebay.. you might find a collector willing to pay a little more.
The XT1100 nexus 6 however has no CDMA as its the international version, so i.would recommend testing that and 4G
That's pretty cool.. What are you thinking about selling it for?

Unless it was like HTC and had a S-off engineer bootloader really not worth any premium. It just an extremely used N6 if was used for testing. Also may have subpar hardware depending where it was in the testing cycle.

Just saying if nothing different like an engineering bootloader it is just a used Nexus. Even engineering bootloader irrelevant on N6 because it is unlockable. There is no premium to this device except is older than any on the street in my opinion. It was premium if could obtain before N6 was released. Year later it just another N6. If IEMI is blacklisted it is a brick.
Some preprod units had an HDMI out chip (i.e., MHL or something like that).
I say keep it if it works as expected. If the Nexus brand was more popular I would say sell it because it is a rare device and people would be more likely to throw money at it.

Well I posted it on Craigs list and had an immediate response from an IT Manager over at Cal State University of Long Beach we met at a Starbucks and upon inspection and testing he immediately offered me 600. So like I had previously stated I tested the phone and listed it on Swappa so of course it couldn't be blacklisted and the device was in flawless condition the teacher did mention HDMI so I would have to think it wasn't just another used Nexus or I would suspect the man wouldn't have been so quick to whip out $600.

There is no guarantee that it has HDMI, unless he actually confirmed it by looking at the hardware version reported by the kernel. HDMI was removed at "some" stage before shipping, and there is no way of telling by the pictures you provided whether that test device was from before or after that change.
