It might not be. It looks like Qualcomm has been holding HTC back when it comes to dual-cores (eg. why no dual-core in the Thunderbolt?).

Pretty sure I read somewhere, and of course I have no links, but dual core snapdragons should be hitting the market around Q2.
Btw, why is this in q&a?

I can't wait to switch to an EVO variant when I'm up for a renewal. Wish that they would sport nvidia processors though. I can't wait for the quad core tegra 3 later this year. Either way after a terrible showing at CES I'm glad to see sprint bringing something new to the table.

I'm waiting for a dual core to come out too.

You won't see a HTC with a Tegra in it anytime soon, as HTC has a contract with Qualcomm.

So who is leaving N1 for G2

With the new release of G2 I am sure there are many of n1 users looking to upgrade. Who is in? I don't need a hardware keyboard. I like the slim n1. Prob wait for the real nexus two. I wonder what is the full spec on the new G2? Whatcha think?
Edit: 800mhz say what? You guys sure u want to upgrade.

I am not going to leave for the g2 untill january, or at least until the gingerbread phones start rolling out, but if there isn't anything spectacular...which there most likely will be...I will be trading the nexus for the g2
800 MHz? No thanks.
Not Me...what would I do with a slide out keyboard
The only thing I'd really like is HSPA+, though my city probably won't get it for a few months. Other than that, I don't see anything overwhelming with the G2. Don't need a hardware keyboard now that I'm used to virtual keyboard and Swype... The Adreno 205 GPU is also something else I'd like. I think I'll just wait until early next year to see what other HSPA+ phones come out.

It's an underclocked proc from what I hear. Clock speed isn't everything. It's more about how efficient the proc is in one clock cycle. From the sound of things (aka rumors so far), It's going to have some pretty damn sweet features. It's the successor to the first Android device! It can't fail
I'm not necessarily LEAVING the Nexus, but I'm seriously debating picking one of these bad boys up

How does that GPU compare to the one in Galaxy S?
Nice looking phone, but no. I will need something soon to replace this collectors item though.
As much as i would love to have a g2 to continue the legacy I think I will stick with the sexy nexy

Adreno 205
Now everyone knows that HTC G2 (also known as HTC Vision, HTC Vanguard, HTC G1 Blaze and HTC Desire Z) will feature Snapdragon MSM7230 chipset which uses Adreno 205.
Adreno 205 features:
Hardware-accelerated SVG and Adobe Flash®
Significant improvements in shader performance over Adreno 200 GPU
Streaming textures that can combine video, camera, SVG and other image surfaces with 3D graphics
Based on the early benchmark results, Adreno 205 is expected to be about four times faster than Adreno 200. Samsung's Hummingbird with PowerVR SGX540 is expected to beat Adreno 205 by a small margin, however. Still, given that nothing touches the performance of SGX540 today (that's right, iPhone 4 is not even close!), this is quite an improvement. Also, this thread proves that
Interesting to note that Adreno has hardware-accelerated support for Adobe Flash. Are we going to see much smoother movies in action on this platform?
Will Snapdragon QSD8x60 and QSD8672 use this GPU as well? Perhaps at a higher clock speed? These are dual-core chipsets running at 1.2GHz and 1.5GHz respectively. Rumored phones such as HTC Glacier (also known as HTC Emerald) and HTC Scorpion are expected to use these chipsets. If we are lucky, we may get to see some of these phones during 2010.
Blueman's List of phones that will get him to leave his current Nexus One:
Another Nexus One
Emerald
Nexus 2
</end of list>
At 1GHz or higher I would have bought one on release day. Now I plan on waiting for some reviews and opinions after it has been out for a month or two. I really would like a hardware keyboard but the absence of | and \ diminishes its usefulness for me.
The other mitigating factor is the rumored dual core Glacier on the horizon. I am interested in seeing how that one shapes up.
I'm buying the phone release date hopefully. It's only clocked at 800ghz so I'm guessing it'll get overclocked. I'm still keeping my Nexus though just as a collectors item, as a backup and for gingerbread. I'll never sell it. One reason I wanna switch is because the 3g problem on my nexus seems to be getting worse over time. The main reason I want it is the keyboard mainly for gaming and because it's vanilla android. If there is a nexus 2 I will buy it also and when the myTouch HD does come out or project emerald I'll just get my friend to get one and report it stolen and I'll do the same with mine and then switch the extra with him. I'm hoping its available for preorder but does anybody know if you preorder a phone does it charge you right when you preorder it or on your next bill?
Hell i am leaving my n1 for this mang! Well not leaving but getting.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/samsung-galaxy-tab-preview/
Why the hell would I? Its ridiculous to jump from N1 until a dual core android phone with a front facing camera and an 8MP rear camera that is a "Google" phone running stock android. In other words hell no!
Are you serious. No Thanks. If I only had a G1 with TMO, the obvious upgrade would be G2. But Nexus One to G2 = Downgrade. It's an ok phone though.
A) Just to play devil's advocate, people are saying that the 800 MHz MSM7x30 Scorpion chip actually runs FASTER than a 1 GHz Snapdragon. Read the comments here:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/confirmed-t-mobile-g2-will-have-android-2-2-flash-and-800mhz-c/
B) It'd be tempting but nah, not for me. I'll wait for the next resolution bump (past 800 x 480). Preferably higher than the retina display

The Tab, looks really nice, it has everything i could possibly want in a tablet, however I was planning on waiting for the Tegra2 line of Android Tablets. Hopefully they will run just as flawless as the Tab.
Im sorry but 1ghz ftw!
If it comes with HDMI I might get one. It's hard with T-Mobile because they rarely get really nice phones like this so I may get it regardless.

[Q] Just about to go buy my Evo and then...

So I'm about to go buy an Evo today and I'm just about to leave and I get an email notice from BestBuy saying the the new Nexus S is going to hit stores soon and I stop...is it even worth buying an Evo now or should I hold off!? I got my Hero a few months before the Evo came out because I needed a new phone and now I am due for an up-grade but should I hold off, will Sprint release something soon that blows the Evo out of the water?
Anyone have any insight?

Well, I'm hoping the Nexus S comes out on Sprint. I'd like a high end phone, but no matter how many times I hold one, the Evo just seems too big.
Nexus S will probably NOT be coming to Sprint, though I can envision Samsung releasing Touchwiz versions eventually (well, maybe). As for Sprint coming out with something better than the EVO sooner than later, well, who knows, besides them. You can always just get the EVO, and if something better comes along (by IF I mean definitely, as that's how technology works obviously) soon, resell it and pay maybe $1-150 tops out of pocket.
well what's really the diff. between the nexus one and the nexus s....snapdragon vs hummingbird.....what else...second camera on nexus s? and htc vs samsung?
cause i know nexus one +custom rom = off the chart benchmark results.....too bad sprint can't use it....

Nexus S is going to t-mobile, unless you get it unlocked. It's not much of an upgrade from the Nexus 1, front facing cam but not as good as EVO I believe, also there's no microSD card its all 16gb internal. No touchwiz. Oh yea, and its a samsung.
As much as I want to upgrade I'll wait for the feb/march batch of phones, I don't want to drop $529 for a phone that will be outdone in a major way in as little as 2-3 months.

It's a faster processor, at least. Lack of MicroSD is really dumb, don't really understand the thinking behind that one myself. It is a Samsung, but yeah, no Touchwiz is a positive, the GPS issues the Galaxy-S series seems to have been plagued with have apparently been ironed out with (at least I think I read that.. maybe don't quote me on that), and since it's a developer phone it'll be dogfed the latest updates from Google, also a big plus (especially with future implementation of NFC and some other more behind the scenes stuff like that).
However, still interested in how the reviews and general reception of it turn out, especially since T-Mobile already has the G2 and MyTouch 4G, both really nice phones on their own. Also, this news makes me really happy: http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/08/evo-shift-4g-aka-htc-knight-speedy-shows-up-in-accessory-pic/
Sprint-branded Desire Z? Probably the best phone to have on the carrier if that pans out sooner than later.
Other issues with the Nexus S I've heard around the webz:
1. No LED notifications
2. Only 480p video recording

I don’t think any of the Galaxy S phones have LED notifications.
I'm not so much worried about whether the Nexus S will be coming to Sprint I am worried that there might be something coming from Sprint that will make the Evo look like junk. I got my Hero thinking it was top dog and months later I was kickin' myself in the ass. And now that the Evo has established it's dominance I am afraid to jump on the bandwagon incase something superior hits.
Well, it looks like the "Knight"/"Speedy"/"Evo Shift 4G" should be announced sometime sooner than later. Since it'll be a Sprint-branded Desire Z/G2 seemingly, I'd say that's worth holding out for.

My close friend works for sprint they are getting the htc Knight aka baby evo 4g which has NO front facing camera and is not better then the EVO. That's all they are telling sprint employees right now. Everything else is just rumors and wishes. I also have a friend who works for t-mobile(chick I'm messing around with lol) who says tmo is getting the nexus s they already have some accessories for it in the back and the specs are pretty much same as nexus one but WITH a front facing camera. Biggest downfall is that its a Samsung so need I say more about that company.

It's already known Nexus S is hitting T-Mobile. Also, if the EVO Shift is the Desire Z (can't see it NOT being it), then it will be better than the EVO (second generation processor, bettery battery life as a result, faster, etc). I guess we will see, but yeah.

[Q] EVO vs EVO SHIFT 4G

which one would you get? i cant wait any longer seeing as how my hero broke. do you think there will be lots of devs working on the shift?
the shift isn't out and hasn't been announced yet, if you need a phone now you get the evo
we know a lot of the specs of the shift though. the processor is the same as the g2 which is better than the evo and so is the gpu. im mainly worried about the devs. seeing as how evo has a very active section. i dont know whether the shift will get any.
Jan 9th appears to be the best guess release date based on leaked documents.
What it comes down to, is if you want a physical keyboard or not. The internals will be different, but nothing drastic. Lots of working being done on the EVO, so I dont think you'll go wrong either way.
The Shift's screen is too small and has too much extra space under the buttons for my liking. Design fail.
the shift will be able to be clocked to 1.9ghz which is crazy. but i think the evo will be better in the long run with devs and support

There were a couple of comments in the comment section that referenced that same processor was o/c'd to 1.9 on the G2. I do believe

yeah. the processor in the shift is the same as in the g2. the devs on the g2 have been able to overclock it to 1.9 stable.
check this out: http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/
g2 own all other phones right now with the processor

I really don't imagine there wouldn't be a good dev scene for it, after all, it IS a HTC device, plus it is a CDMA G2. Going to be picking up one whenever Sprint tells me I can, ha.

Personally, I believe that getting the evo would be better in the long run. The Evo is a premier phone, the original 4g, where as the Shift is just a crappy replication of the evo. If you REALLY want a physical keyboard go for it. Otherwise Evo all the way.

Droid Bionic? DAMN!

From Android Central...
Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha has just unveiled the Motorola Droid Bionic at the company's CES 2011 press event. The new smartphone will run on Verizon's 4G LTE network and sports dual 1GHz processors, a 4.3 inch quarter-HD display and front and rear-facing cameras. It also appears to be running an updated version of Motorola's Motoblur interface.
Other notable features include the ability to record and display HD video content via its included HDMI port. The Droid Bionic will launch on Verizon during the second quarter of 2011. Stay tuned to Android Central for more on this and other just-announced devices.

What interested me was the orientation change animation. Some one needs to port that to CM (or whatever ROM you like) ASAP. The quick change with no transition looks so cheap and unsophisticated to me.
I'm sure sprint will have an new Evo-esque phone sooner than late. At&t and Verizon both have basically the incredible hd which is essentially a slightly upgraded Evo. That will probably be the look of the new Evo.
I actually think it will work to Sprints advantage to wait for the hype around Verizon and at&t to die down. I think they will announce some new high end Android phones as well some WebOS devices in the coming months. I'm sure HP will be trying to make some noise.

Verizon - Motorola
AT&T - Samsung

itd be a winner for me if it had 4.3" -4.5"
I looked on AT&T's Premier website for devices found... all of them are junk (And yes it has my Captivate listed there too).

Yeah... so that's why smartphone users might not get the honeycomb update. Which brings me to think that Google is no longer pushing constant updates to Android. Do you guys think that it's mature enough already?
Going back on topic, I think you should go for the EVO 4G or it's later iterations... it seems to be a wonderful device in the USA

If you are on at&t then the Motorola Atrix, Verizon either the HTC Thunderbolt or the Droid Bionic, Sprint HTC Evo Shift, Tmobile, Dell Streak 7 (maybe) Honestly, the only one that is really next gen is the Atrix... On the other carriers, I might wait until after
the Mobile World Congress in Feb.
