Hi everybody,
last week i got my HD7 but there's a reallyyyyy big problem. the speaker. if i listen to music or alarm clock, the sound is soooooo low, i don't even hear my alarm clock, that really sucks. has anybody else such a problem and is there any solution ? i already resettet the phone but still the problem exists.
THX
I find the ringtone and alarm to be loud, but when listening to media, a voice call and speaker phone are all quite low.
Judging from the other threads that were suggested when you started yours (attached), then yes, other people do have this problem.
We believe it is a software issue as in places the speaker is incredibly loud (games for example). Let's hope its fixed with an update, and let's hope you learn how to use the forum tools (such as search )

We had one update already and what nothing. It seems it's not important. I have the same problem as well. I tried to modify registry but nothing changed.
Agreed, they are taking their time with the updates, after all this first update was an update to get ready for the next update. What's all that about?
As i said, all we can do is hope.
in my experience if you use a headset, volume in phone calls is much louder
otherwise it's very annoying, especially when you're outside and there's background noise, i usually have to pretend it's very windy so i can ask people to constantly repeat what they say

more recent firmware updates (available here on XDA devs) solve this issue.
I flashed my O2 HD7 with the latest rom and the volume has increased.
@scoob101 which rom did you flash on to it?

I'm on my second tilt. I returned the first one because it was impossible for me to carry on a conversation on the railroad to and from work (or in other mildly noisy situations). While I have no issues hearing the person on the other end, my voice cuts in and out to such an extent that I cannot carry on a conversation. This occurs in the morning on relatively empty trains and in the evening on crowded trains.
There is another thread in which most people have been complaining about the quality on the other end when using the speakerphone, but some had a problem similar to mine as well. AT&T claims that this has not yet been identified as a widespread issue with the device, but before I really raise a stink with them, I wanted to find out if this was really a widespread issue or not.
If this is to ultimately be useful to others, I guess it makes sense to identify which version of the Kaiser you are using.
Thanks.
Turn on Automatic Gain Control
Start / Settings / System / Microphone AGC
"Enable"
*really* helps voice quality a lot.

One of the main reasons i upgraded to the tilt (it was a huge upgrade, basic phone to a all-in-one phone) was because my phone calls dropped all the time. I thought it was because of the phone (it was old, been dropped ALOT), but I'm beginning to wonder. when talking on the tilt the other day, the other person complained that i was dropping in and out. i was pacing on the upstairs of the house, and kept passing TVs, computers and their moniters and past the wireless router, so it could be that, but, again, i don't know for sure.
That's funny, in the other thread people were saying to turn it off. It is off by default on the tilt so I never bothered to turn it on (yes, I'm a noob...). I'll give it a try...thanks!

Yes, it's a curious thing the AGC. In a way it would be helpful to have a hard key for it because how well or badly it works depends on the background noise level. So in some situations you might want it off and even in the same conversation you might want it on. Also it's behaviour is affected by whether you are on speaker phone where volume level and feedback become issues. (Not the easiest thing to test out either!)

Weird, I have it both with or without the speaker.
HTC contacted me today, saying that the problem is now known with them, so they are searching for a solution.

That's very good to hear.
I thought AGC only Adjusts the volume of your voice automatically when you are recording.

It does help, but only slightly when calling on my device.
It seems to help on my tilt as well, but I really haven't had much of a chance to test it out. I will say that, however small the sample size (and assuming it is random), it is somewhat comforting that most respondants have not had any problems at all. Maybe ours are just from a bad batch. I'm going to try calling AT&T to see if they'll swap mine out again.
I just got off the phone with HTC support again (here in Belgium). He URGED me that everybody that has the problem would report it: the more requests on the problem they receive, the faster they will start developing a fix.
So everybody, start calling HTC support and ask they make a ticket for it!

i hope they can make a fix... common htc how come thei never faced this problem on their test .. cant believe it!
My 2 cents on AGC, auto-gain automatically turns up the mic volume to capture "light" low volume sounds. It would really help capture a wispering speaker in a quiet room. On a loud train it should automatically turn it's gain down because of the loud ambient noise and I would expect the speakers voice to be harder to hear by the other party.
In a loud place I'd say turn it off, but as always, your own trials will tell what's best for you.

so in resume, TyTN II / Kaiser Speaker phone SUX
this is a very important feature in a phone, i don't care if it's the best PDA phone in the world... a good phone must respond as a good phone and the Kaiser doesnt...

In some cases. Yes, but I only have issues with people hearing me while using the speakerphone.

With my device, the sounds also drops when I'm calling with the phone held to my ear :-(. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
Calling HTC
I called HTC America (HTC India is more like it) to report the issue. They were very thankful and apologetic and mentioned the possibility of getting a new device. He said he was going to dispatch an e-mail about the issue to HQ immediately and that they would be sitting down with AT&T in the near future (as they do 30 days after a new phone is released with a given carrier) and would do his best to make sure the issue is addressed at that time.
Here's hoping...

I've reported the issue to the HTC authorised service center close to 2 weeks ago. When I called up the service center, their reply is : no response from the HTC Taiwan yet..... What a surprising innocent reply from them!!!! As if they have never got any feedback on such issue before!
Hi
I wonder if the problem is caused by excessive volume of the in built earpiece? Do you have this up on maximum or high?
The inbuilt earpiece goes very loud and so the sound would easily be picked up by the microphone causing it to behave similar to when you have it on speaker phone as it tries to stop feedback and echo.
There isn't a lot that can be done about this apart from turning down the earpiece volume or using a wired headphones with mic. It may be worth turning down your volume on the earpiece to see if it improves.
Regards
Phil
I just bought my HD7 and the speaker is very low and i have it on level 30.
Is there any way of making it more loud??
Please for all the help that i can get.
Hi that is an issue with the HD7 and we are hoping MS will fix the issue with the future updates
You might have also noticed the camera is rubbish for long distance shots as well
and that you cant add a custom ringtone.
so stay put and hope they update our software quickly

To the original poster, what Hardware Revision is your phone? Mine is version 0002 and I find the speaker to be quite loud for ringing, notifications, and music. For Netflix, the volume is very low.
To the other posters... if your only contribution to this forum is stuff like "this phone is rubbish," please leave.
same with mine ringtones alerts and music sound is very low but playing games like bejewelled and metro blocks in game sounds and music is very very loud I have to turn it down.
Same issue here. One way around it is to use Chevron ringtone installer to get your own tunes onto the phone (works for alarms and alerts) but before you do use Audacity t increase the sound on the tune before converting to the correct format for the phone. I have done this and now my ringtone, alarms and alerts are plenty loud enough for noisy environments.
i used all the above.
To be exact on the games only the sound is loud..
The ringing of all the sounds that i tested is too low..
i cant ever hear it when its in my pocket and it rings..!!
I hope the ota update that is on its way, should fix the registry key that does all that.
lets hope , it is very low

Actually the volume is the same,l do not know what set up are You using but l test all 3 preset and volume is same. But still for all others if you have on your hd7 installed custom ringtones you can make this ringtones (edit the ringtone) in some app for editing music, and play with equalizers so you can have louder tones. Still my opinion is that hd7 has some software limitations-volume simple must be louder-common how can we hear phone in pockets or handy bags. New Nokia phones are much much loader so...HTC do SOMETHING!
also the speaker volume is maximum 10 in Hd7 is this the same for all the devices?

I have already installed even the rom 1.60.401.01 since my phone had 1.23.401.01 when i bought it, i made the update to the build 7008 via zune but nothing changed.
I installed also HTC Sound Enhancer but the increase was about 2% louder than before enabling the Dolby option since SRS did nothing at all.
I hope that Microsoft & HTC with solve that problem on the upcoming NoDo Update..

Just put your phone inside your pocket and walk on the street at some big cities like LA, or San Francisco, i bet nothing could warn you about the phone except the vibration of the phone itself.
The sound from outside world are so many and come to your ear the same time, how could you expect to hear your favorite ringtone from your god **** phone inside your pocket? Bring the external speaker and stick it on your ears, you will hear it!
I don't know about you guys phone, i can hear my ringtone from my HD7 while i am talking to friend at the hall.
When i used a TPU material case (harder than silicon but more flexible than hard plastic case) seems to absorb sound leakage from phone build (HD7 has 'flimsy' batter case). Immediately after installing, sounds like ringtones ard keyboard tapping sounds have improved noticeably. Hopefully this gives u a temp fix...

When i recieve calls in outdoor environment, the volume is very low, its difficult to hear. the volume of the earphone speakers s very low. but when we use the headset to hear music, the volume is fine.

I am making a wild guess have you installed any call recording app which is running in background, this may be the problem.
In Call Speaker Problem
Its a New Unit have not installed any applications till now. what about you people how is the volume in outdoor.
i had the same problem a few time since js5 firmware. an interesting thing is, that im using a voodoo kernel with every firmware since js5 and perhaps this causes this problem to european devices ?!...

I also have this stupid bug, annoys the hell of me, as i work in a noisy place i often cannot hear the phone ringing before its finished...
I've tried to find a solution, but still no luck.. It's not a largely discussed item yet..
But i cant hardly believe we are the only one with this issue...

Did somebody find a solution ?
Can't help with the soft-to-loud ringtone problem.
But to get a loud ringtone, I sound edited a ringtone file to play as loud as possible (with some distortion) and worked quite well. Not loud enough for a construction site, but OK for most noisy indoor situation. I used Audacity on a PC to increase the playback decibel (I think +5db made noticeable difference).
Thanks for the answer...
It's my first android phone (comin' from a htc touch diamond 2), is it a common problem with android phone or it's only with the o2x?
Is the problem only on stock rom or also on custom (modaco, CM7,...)?

It's not a bug it's a feature!
I hate this to.
I installed the CyanogenMod by Maclaw - " Jellybean 4.2.2 (CyanogenMod 10.1) 20130826 "
The audio has changed somewhat now for me. I've noticed that for some individuals the audio is so low it's hard to hear what they say if there is any ambient noise. However, this is only for some of them. For instance, when I talk to my brother in law I can hear without a problem.
Still, overall the audio has dropped, for some contacts quite significantly. And I do have maxed the audio, checked what settings I can think of too.
Is this fixable in some way? Can't find anyone with this problem that got it fixed

Thanks you SO very much for that link! :good: It changed for those that was too low, but the ones that had a decent volume level was kept at that. So now I can once again hear what they say!
Well, this just sucks. It didn't change anything at all. It turned out to be only in-calls that had low volume, and it still does.
Also, noticed today that when I make a call and the audio is good, and then turn on loudspeaker it goes really low. Quite annoying..

you should possibly considering moving to one of the stock based custom ROM's

stock base custom rom aren't anyting like cyanogenmod. they are buggy, each developer changes the look of it the way he likes it. i don't like most of them. i know what i say. tryed all of them. used Dmod V5 a while, and then it totally fu...ed it up in last version.
i got used to the problem. waiting for a fix from maclaw or oliver.
