Hi all,
I don't know if some of you also think this way, but the volume setting has only 15 steps (with headphones plugged in) and that's a bit too few. On my Legend, using my in ear monitor earphones is almost impossible, it's too loud even on the first step.
Is there a way to add more steps? I mean in the "global" controls we get with the volume buttons. Is this somewhere in the code of android, or is this a hardware limitation to the Legend?

My Bionic's lowest volume using headphones in calls is, unfortunately, still incredibly loud. I've used the volume rocker while in call to bring it down to its lowest setting, but that's still pretty loud.
Is there any software which can affect the call volume? An alternative dialer? I'm rooted, for what it's worth. I don't want to switch to a different type of headphones, but I can't really take this volume.
Thanks!

I searched the market and there are some apps the control volume, but they do not mention the range. They are free. So you might try them. Search "Volume Control".
I know you don't want to switch headphones, but here are in "in-line" volume controllers that you can add under your earphone plug.
Good luck
Unfortunately, all of the volume control apps that I've tried (by searching volume control as you suggested( have only been able to adjust in the same 1-7 point scale as the rockers. Really, I need a volume app which allows me to select a volume between 0 (silent) and 1 (the rocker's quietest setting.
I may look into on-headphone attenuators, but that's trouble too because not all calls are so loud.
That said, thanks for the response!

maybe...hold the phone farther away from your ear?
Wilbur,
I'm already hanging the earbuds from my ears pointing away to get down to a reasonable level with some conference call services. Sadly, it's a bit more complex than that
I too have been looking for this...Ive tried about 4 or 5 apps today. None of them well allow a setting between 0 and 1.
I am using a single mono AD2P headset, and trying to get the volume of the music a little lower. I just want it to be there kind of as background music, but it is too loud.
I've just gotten off the phone with a second-level tech at Verizon who said that variable call volume will be addressed in the next Bionic software update. He also said that it's currently in beta, and will drop Mid-November. Sorry to bump my own thread, but this is the first time I've gotten anybody at Moto or VZW to admit this was even a problem.
When i listen througn headphones, the volume is quite low. I then increase the volume on the button and I can see the slider move to the right on the screen but the actual volume doesnt change. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,
If using the original earbuds, there's also a rocker-button on one of the leads...
You could always give Voodoo Control a try, assuming you are rooted.
Be careful with it though as the dev says '...this AMP is a beast' !
Hi, I wonder if anyone can anyone help or ideas to my problem.
I come from a long line of Cowon audio players and am now using this phone as my main audio player because the quality is good, though the volume is low and because its convenient to carry one device, with all my music transferred to the 128GB card.
Anyhow, one thing I miss is the ability to use/assign the hardware buttons for basic audio control.
The Z3C has three buttons usable for custom control, though the volume is already assigned so maybe it leaves just one? The camera button.
Perhaps this button can be used with a sequence of presses to control Pause/FFD/RWD tracks (similar to handsfree buttons) or even the power button to control in music mode only and double press to awake phone as normal?
Is this possible at all. Can the signals of the wired handsfree be sent to the hardware buttons?
Phone is still on rooted KITKAT (kinks in 5.1.1 LP yet).
Thanks in advance.
well, you could use Pocket Skip Track to change/stop tracks with a long [or double] click on the volume up/down
as for the wired handsfree you can use JAYS Headset Control and set it so that a single click will start/stop the music, a double click will skip a track and a triple one will skip back.

Hey, thanks for that app, didn't know such existed. Looks promising :good:
Regarding the headset, I was just using it as an example to describe, sorry about the confusion. I use Jetaudio player, which can work with most buttoned headsets already.
But because I use real headphones, they don't have controls on them. Hence, being able to jump/skip tracks with just the Z3C buttons is needed.
Thanks so much for your help.
Hello all,
I have seen this bug in many motorola phones. Pls find bug explanation below.
Everytime when i connect headset in 3.5mm jack, audio volume and ringtone volume goes down automatically and even goes to DND mode.
I found temporary fix by playing some audio while connect headset jack, which avoids this issue.
Anyone knows permanent fix, please reply.
It happens only when I connect headset of samsung with other head set it works great
So I thik it is just compatibility problem
I was also having problems with a Sony headphones. What I did was to remap the volume down button for headphone.
I think it's not a bug but feature. The phone maintains the status of volume level differently for the case when headphone is inserted and when the headphone is not inserted.
I don't have evidence for this, though but as much as I've observed, that's how it works.
The issue is due to the difference in architecture of 3.5mm headphone pin the inner architecture of the Moto phone is built according to it's headsets.
When you connect other headset eg. Boat it hits the inner plate which is responsible to lower down the volume as in some headsets there is option to decrease and increase the volume.
Power button will also not work by the time as the phone senses that lower volume rocker is being pressed simultaneously.
Solution : Screen off your phone plug in the headphones screen on and use it.
I have a sony z3c with a broken microphone. So I thought, I can use this great phone as an music-, podcast- and audiobook-player. Just ike the Sony NW A100.
But when I connect a bluetooth speaker or headphone to that device there are only 15 steps to increase or decrease the volume. And the lowest volume possible is way to loud to listen podcast late at night on my JBL go 1 or 2. Also the volumechange between two steps is to heavy.
Normaly I use my Samsung Galaxy S8 to play audiofiles. There are also only 15 Steps to change the volume. But I can change “media volume sync” in the bluetooth advanced settings to change the volume of the smartphone and the speaker separately, which fixed my problem. On some sony smartphones in the developer options you can toggle "Disable absolut volume", but on my z3c this option is nowhere to be found.
But that’s not possible on the z3c. I tried apps like “Precise Volume“, some tweaks in the Xposed framework and ViPER4Android. Even some custom rom. But nothing worked.
With some tweaks or ViPER4 Android I could get the volume lower (by reduce the output gain or lover all frequencies in the EQ). But then, when I change the volume, sometimes 2 or 3 steps remain on the same volume.
Does any of you have any Idea how to help my with my problem? It’s been two month now, that I tried everything to fix it, but till today, I don’t found any solution...
idk exactly, but maybe you can take this a hint for furter research on that topic:
