[Q] HELP! I need to flash back to stock - i need experts - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'll make this short. I am a Bell i9000m user (JL2) I tried to flash seeARMS rom and it ended up messing up my phone (the buttons at the bottom stopped working) I also flashed super optimized kernal.
So now basically I have to get back to my stock (JL2)
I have the rom via samsungfirmares.com (stock JL2)
Here is my question.
Can I just flash this via ODIN (pda only) and I will be back at stock ?
Because I watched this video for i9000m users:
http://wn.com/How_to_Flash_A_Galaxy_S_Phone_back_to_Stock_Froyo
In it, the author says to use JPU (a "full rom") and he flashes the modem, pit, partition, pda, etc. -- THEN he flashes to JL2
What's the difference ?
Do I HAVE to use a full rom like JPU first then go to JL2 ?
I want to basically go back to stock vanilla.
If i flash JL2 via PDA only what will happen to the kernal and stuff ? will I still have the super optimized kernel?
Help guys

Hey
I had just done this today. Once you get the JL2 rom from samfirmware, you'll notice that it only has one file inside the extract. That's the only file you need. In other cases you might have 3 files but if you check on the samfirmware website, it also says that in their case, the PDA file is all you need.
Once you have extracted the file, open odin, get into download mode in your phone, connect the phone. Once the box turns yellow, just click on PDA and select the .tar file. Make sure nothing else has been selected. Click start.
Also make sure that you have no lagfix or tweaks enabled just in case as this might screw it up.
Hope that helps

[q] I am a total noob with unbricking my Samsung Galaxy S I9000

Hi,
Trying to unbrick my phone is driving my mind totally mad!
So far I have tried installing several CF roots with ODIN and tried to reflash the ROM with I9000XWJS3. All of them lead to no success, just a black screen and the phone vibrates every 10 seconds.
Trying to find information on this forum is easy.. but trying to put all those pieces of information together is somewhat impossible for me.
I am from the Netherlands and bought this SGS 2nd hand from someone who has rooted it. However I have no idea how that person has done that with which piece of software. I also have no idea what build number it currently has. However I do know there is no sim-lock, because the owner bought it from the KPN telecom provider and has no problems using a sim-card from T-mobile.
I am able to get into the download mode (3 button combo thingy) and Odin can successfully flash the ROM of my SGS.
Now what I need to know is which PIT, ROM, CSC, Modem files etc. I need to make this phone working again. Preferably I'd like to run it on Froyo 2.2.1 with Android market installed.
try downloading the firmwares from samfirmwares.com
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913 download the firmware from here. preferably JM8 flash that thru odin with PIT and REPARTITION and that should do the trick. then you can flash over a new rom like JPY (2.2.1)
I've successfully unbricked my Galaxy with the 'Froyo ROM that does not brick' here - "h t t p://w w w.4shared.com/file/dJiyRz3v/EUGENE373_SamsungS_Froyo_PDA.html" (Can't post as actual link because I'm not allowed to yet, just copy and paste the bit between the speech marks into a new window and remove the spaces).
As per previous poster's instructions; flash through Odin as PDA with PIT and REPARTITION (Original instructions for this ROM said not to use repartition but that didn't work for me)
You should then be able to Odin flash any new rom you like, but when you do DON'T use REPARTITION or PIT, otherwise your phone will just get bricked again.
I feel that flashing the firmwares which needs partition is safer and better than those that isn't....for my case I prefer flashing JPU than JPY or JPX...it works every time I got my phone semi-bricked, hehe...
Hello,
Yesterday i had similar problem ater trying to flash Darky's resurrection edition.
After the boot i had a black screen just like you.
Here's how i finally unbricked:
Download
- PIT 803 file multiupload.com/6JX2LEUCTY
- I9000XWJS3 pakcage from samfirmware.com (european for my case), PIT803 version : hotfile.com/dl/100247999/301207f/I9000_XEN_I9000XWJS3.rar.html
(The pwd is samfirmware.com)
The package I9000 XEN I9000XWJS3 contains 3 file (which i think is the key, trying to repartition with only one PDA file seem to soft brick the phone)
In Odin, tick repartition, for PIT select the PIT 803 file
For PDA, choose I9000XWJS3-REV03-ALL-low-CL830616.tar.md5
For CSC, choose GT-I9000-CSC-XENJS3.tar.md5
For PHONE, choose MODEM_I9000XXJPY.tar.md5
After the flash, your phone will reboot in rescue, unplug it and do a wipe/factory reset, then reboot and you should be ok.
The goal was only to unbrick my phone, but i'm totally happy with this firmware for now, my phone is a lot faster than before, and i don't feel the need of a lagfix anymore!!
Please note that this is just my experience, and you should wait for more advanced users help.

Would jvo modem work on froyo2.2?

Hi I have stock rom of froyo 2.2 (this one on the link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=kc1
i really dont like the kc1 modem i was wondering if JVO modem would work.
It said its for CWM3
but can that be just flashed using odin ??
or do i have to have Clockwork mod 3?? how do i install this?? I checked my recovery (stock recovery) and it seems like the stock recovery is 3e version.. :S
how do i install cwm3 if i have 3e version..
I upgraded to GB using this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1#post13566808
and upgraded to JVO modem using recovery update thingy
modem was great (GPS locks fast etcs) but it was too unstable (i prob did something wrong while installing it? i dono ) :and it kept shutting off the phone
so i installed the stock 2.2 froyo ugkc1
please help me
thanks
In my experience modems are pretty interchangable. I like the KC1 modem myself for Bell it seems to work the best. Maybe it depends on your area.
Follow this thread to flash modem for CWM any version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
If you are running Froyo then you will want to stick with CWM2 I think. Speedmod is an easy way to get this. If you want to use a modem file that is not listed on that link you can download any CWM2 zip file and open it and insert your modem.bin into it. Then flash that using CWM.
Hi thank you for your reply.
I dono where to downlaod the JVO modem with CWM2 version
also if i use speedmod will I get CWM2? even tho i have stock e3 recovery installed??/
Yes, speedmod will give you CWM2. Just download speedmod for ODIN and flash it as PDA. It will work on all froyo builds.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
To get the modem file just extract the modem.bin out of the CWM3 zip file you have. Then download any CWM2 modem zip file and put that modem.bin into it. The only difference between those files are the modem.bin inside them.
I wish I knew a way to flash just the modem.bin with ODIN. There may be a way, but I have not found it yet. CWM is the only documented way that I have found unless the ROM comes in 3 parts. Then you can just flash the PHONE portion with Odin.
One other trick I did was I flashed with a ROM that included the modem that I wanted, then used Odin to upgrade to JVH but didn't flash the Phone portion, just the PDA and CSC. This worked good and didn't require CWM or rooting at all. Now I have a 2.3.3 stock ROM with a custom Modem without any hacks.
-start Odin.
-Select "phone" and fetch the modem.bin file.
-Only thing checked should be "Auto Reboot"
-Put phone in download mode
-Plug in USB
-hit Start
Awesome, Thanks Pr3torian. I have thought about doing that a few times but wasn't sure it would work. I always figured it was that easy but could not find any documentation to support it. All the Phone downloads are always md5 or zip format so didn't want to brick my phone.

how to get back to 2.2 original?

my brother found a couple of roms, they require 2.2, the phone is upgraded to 2.3.3 taken from samfirmware.
how to get back to original rom? i forgot which number was it 2.2 or 2.2.1
You need the rom you wanna be on I.e JPU, JPY etc and Odin, turn phone off and put in download mode, open Odin and connect phone, a yellow box will appear to confirm phone has been recognised, then extract rom (if downloaded from samfirmware.com) then tick repartition in Odin (far left box) then click pit and browse for the file you just extracted and select the .pit file, then click PDA and select, the click PHONE and browse the file for Modem, then click CSC and browse for CSC. Make sure all files are in the correct place, make sure repartition is ticked and when your sure all is well click start

does the rom need to have the old boot loader included? or is it always included in roms? ive seen some post like "with boot loader" and "without boot loader"
will new boot loader work on old roms?

[Q] CANADIAN I9000M users ONLY Please - How to go from stock KC1 to JVR

I, like many users it seems, are a little apprehensive about installing Cooked ROMS onto our phones because the HOW-TO's are rather generic.
Because our phones have been prone to SD card failures, I thought I'd extend this thread as a request to someone out there who has a CANADIAN SGS I9000M that has upgraded his/her phone to the new JVR (not darky's or any other custom one, just the leaked one from Samsung) to tell the rest of us apprehensive users just how you did it.
I understand these firmwares, at least JVQ or JVR are european versions so I guess we apprehensive users would also need to know about radio's and the whole like.
So to get started, has anyone out there on Bell Mobility's i9000m gone from the stock Froyo 2.2 KC1, to the new JVR or JVQ?
If so, can you please offer the rest of us first-timers a complete and thorough step by step on how you did it?
If this thread is redundant, can you please direct us to a thread that will give us a step by step for OUR phones, and not generic ones? I ask this because it seems that only ours has had the SD failure.
Thank you
I just used the guides and nothing happened, from what I undertand if you have a phone dated later than 1210 or 1012, not sure witch order they come in, you'll be fine to check just remove battery and the number should be there.

Well my phone says "10.12" at the bottom left of the IMEI/SERIAL sticker under the battery.
I went from KC1 to JVP, now on JVQ; JVR would be the same process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
I was also wary of flashing anything other than stock Kies FW, but couldn't wait any longer for bell or samsung to release it over Kies. JVQ is siginificantly better than KC1 imo.
(the below was done after a backup)
The EXACT process I used to flash was:
1) get firmware from Ramad (from the link posted earlier) and place in a folder on your machine.
2) get odin 1.82 (there's also 1.7 and 1.3, but iirc, there was a suggestion to stay away from 1.7 b/c it was not as reliable as 1.3)
3) open odin and place PDA, Phone, and CSC files from Ramad's download in their respective 'slots'.
***note: I did not repartition, so I had only 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' checked
4) enter download mode in phone (vol down + home + power)
5) connect phone to computer via usb (there should be a dialog under 'Message' saying 'Added' and 'ID:COM' should have something there, as in Ramad's post)
6) flash files by clicking 'Start'
7) after flashing successfully, it will reboot the phone...disconnect phone.
Congrats! you're done!
1-7 is the flashing to JV*, but I did the below b/c I wanted the KC1 modem.
8) do same process as above but with only original KC1 modem file (the Phone one)...so PDA and CSC are left blank in odin
Note: you probably could have left the Phone file and flashed only PDA and CSC...perhaps even only the PDA file from JV*, but I selected all 3 first and, iirc, that is what is suggested if flashing for the first time from Froyo to GB.
Hope that helps.
Thanks mk_ln...
Still learning so I hope these questions don't deter anyone from helping.
As far as I can see:
PIT Files
PIT files are only needed if you are repartitioning? Are there any advantages to repartitioning?
CSC Files
As far as I understand it, these are "Country Specific Settings"? I noticed you flashed this as well? Seeing as you are using Bell and I guess JVQ is European firmware, do you notice a problem?
Modem File
So if I leave the Modem file unchecked, it will keep the KC1 modem file thats already on my phone? Any adverse effects of doing that through ODIN?
PDA File
Is this the Gingerbread portion? What I mean is, does anyone know if changes have been made to Modem and CSC files? Or are they carried forward each time?
Also, if someone does do this procedure... how easy is it to undue? Meaning, if Samsung finally gets their heads out of their A$$ and gives us gingerbread, can we go back to stock?
Just do the same but with KC1 easy as pie. Also before installing you apps make sure your csc is not kor. Can't remember what code to ise for that but you can do it with nitrality

So can i just flash the PDA portion of JVQ or JVR? Leave Modem and CSC unchecked?
In other words... no pit, no repartition, no modem, no csc... just PDA.?

I did the same as this, but somewhat saved a step. I downloaded JVQ and KC1 from samfirmware.com
Then at step 3, I selected the JVQ PDA and the JVQ CSC, but selected the KC1 Phone file. Then flashed with repartition checked.
*edit* I also put in the 512 pit file.
Got mine on release day last year. Dated 10/07 and have flashed numerous times including the current jvr. I do believe the bootloader update that came with jl2 fixed the dying sd issue. Happy flashing!

Thanks for your help too... so the JVQ CSC file works ok for your i9000m even though "CSC" stands for "Country Specific Code" or so I've read?

It's been working great, the phone has never been more stable.
I downloaded JVQ and JVR from samfirmwares - and all of the files have a .tar extension.
However I downloaded the KC1 file from Ramad's thread, and all his files are coded as .tar.md5
any reason why? Is there a difference?

You don't have to worry about the difference in file extensions. My experience was the same. Simply choose the .tar file for both your PDA (and CSC if desired). And choose the PHONE_XXKC1.tar.md5 for your Phone file. 512 pit and repartition and flash away.
Ok so is there any difference if I download Ramad's files over the ones at samfirmware?
Do they contain bloatware or anything? And to all that have done this do we have all our radio bands with no issue? I hear some people losing 850 or something?
reflashing kc1 will give you the modem with the 850 band irrespective of which version of GB you install
use Ramad's files or use samfirmware, install stock using odin and then flash kc1 either in odin or using the recovery option and a zip version available in a couple of places on xda and through perkas file stash
use a custom kernel and install a custom rom as per your preference: lots of choices
in the end, you can do a complete clean and reflash to stock if you ever want to get back to a pure "Bell" state
if and when Bell issue their promised update, it will be posted here and on samfirmware and if there's an updated modem and csc we can flash that too
imagine: life without Kies... lots have done it and are way happier and their phone's way better!
So after reading these posts, wich modem can i try and is working for *****ohh sorry BELL instead of JL2 and KC1 ???
ive tried JV1 and JK3 just to see if they were working and its ok...not tested them for long time...
I flashed XXJVR (all 3 files+pit..repartitioned) and had no issues except for the modem missing the 850MHz band.
I also tried the "make any modem have 850MHz band" hack that you can find by searching the forum. It appeared to work, the modem would allow me to choose 850MHz, but whenever I was in an area with only 850MHz coverage, I would lose signal. Checking my wife's identical i9000 confirmed that hers was in 850MHz mode while mine was still in 1900 MHz mode.
So obviously I flashed back to KC1 modem and have had no issues since.
Also note that 2.3.4 doesn't yet have any known exploits so a simple one click root won't work. I hacked up my own kernel to provide me with root (since I am not fond of all the tweaks the other kernels offer) but ran into issues with low space on the /system partition. If you decide to go this route know that you'll have to remove some files from /system to gain root.
My plan is to flash back to Bell's gingerbread rom if they ever release it.

.tar.md5 files are just regular tar files with the md5 checksum appended to the end. When untarring them, tar just ignores the extra bytes, but odin can use the checksum to make sure there is no corruption of the archive.
looks like KC1 is the best one so far
Ok so, just to be devil's advocate here. Does this procedure sound right? I'm making this procedure overly detailed to ensure I miss nothing.
1. Download JVQ and KC1 firmwares from either samfirmware.com or Ramad's thread.
2. Extract both files.
3. Download ODIN and extract files.
4. Open odin. (File says I9003_Odin3 v1.82.exe, is that correct? I9003?)
5. Assuming I'm using JVQ Code(PDA), KC1 Phone(Modem), and JVQ CSC, Should ODIN look like this?
5.a) This is without Re-Partition and PIT file. Do I have to Re-Partition and use a PIT File?

6. Enter Download Mode on the Phone (Turn Phone off, Press VolDown + Home + Power)
7. Connect Phone to Computer via USB (ODIN should say 'Added' and 'ID:COM' should have the COM PORT Listed.)
8. Press 'Start' on ODIN to flash files.
9. After flashing, it will reboot the phone, keep the phone connected until boot process is finished.
10. Disconnect the phone.
Sound right to all you guru's? Any answer to 5a)? Do we need to RePartition and use a PIT file?

[Q] Need some help BSOD/bootloop guys

Hi guys,
I am flashing my gf's phone and tried to root the phone first. Flashed a 'PDA' file in ODIN as the guide said.
Now my Galaxy S has the BSOD (Black Screen Of Death) logo. I can still go into the Download-mode, so i guess there is no need for panic.
I read a lot of guide's and faq's here at XDA, and I think I am supposed to flash new firmware via ODIN (with a PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC file).
My problem is that all the links to this firmware are down or dead, Argh!
Can you provide me a working link with the right and some advice?
BTW, I flashed my HD2, and HTC Sensation many times before, but I am new to flashing Samsungs.
When you flashed the PIT file I assume that you selected repartition?
The PIT file contains the "Drive" layout when you select repartition it will completely wipe the phone as you have found out.
If the phone is able to boot into download mode you will be able to flash another ROM.
I would suggest Darky's 10.2 as this is a odin flashable ROM and it is based on the Samsung stock ROM's.
If you use Darky's you do not have to root the phone before flashing as Darky's complete ROM includes root standard.
Most of the new custom ROM's do not require root before hand as root is included unless the thread states other wise
