how to get back to 2.2 original? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my brother found a couple of roms, they require 2.2, the phone is upgraded to 2.3.3 taken from samfirmware.
how to get back to original rom? i forgot which number was it 2.2 or 2.2.1

You need the rom you wanna be on I.e JPU, JPY etc and Odin, turn phone off and put in download mode, open Odin and connect phone, a yellow box will appear to confirm phone has been recognised, then extract rom (if downloaded from samfirmware.com) then tick repartition in Odin (far left box) then click pit and browse for the file you just extracted and select the .pit file, then click PDA and select, the click PHONE and browse the file for Modem, then click CSC and browse for CSC. Make sure all files are in the correct place, make sure repartition is ticked and when your sure all is well click start

does the rom need to have the old boot loader included? or is it always included in roms? ive seen some post like "with boot loader" and "without boot loader"
will new boot loader work on old roms?

Odin - "Check image files!!"

I've got Odin to recognize my Captivate. I clicked start and it tells me to check the image files. I haven't mounted anything into Odin but I have the ROM & firmware I want on my desktop. Any idea what I'm supposed to do at this point ?

it all depends on what version of ODIN you are using. there are One Click Odins for stock JF6 2.1 and JI6 2.2
if you are using the standalone ODIN, you need to point the pda section to the rom and depending on what rom you are loading, you may need the pit file, phone (modem) file, and CSC file.
explain a little bit better what you mean by you have the ROM and firmware on your desktop?
Hi,
I also got my samsung galaxy s gt-i9000 (in download mode) hooked up to odin (multi downloader 4.03), but whenever i try to flash a custom rom (created in romkitchen.org) it keeps saying ''check the image files !!'' i selected the 'one package' option, and i selected the rom at the bottom ''select integrate package'' section..
I'm clueless right now, please help?

and not to mention you are on the captivate section.....not the i9000 section
if you keep this up you will have a brick in no time

[Q] HELP! I need to flash back to stock - i need experts

I'll make this short. I am a Bell i9000m user (JL2) I tried to flash seeARMS rom and it ended up messing up my phone (the buttons at the bottom stopped working) I also flashed super optimized kernal.
So now basically I have to get back to my stock (JL2)
I have the rom via samsungfirmares.com (stock JL2)
Here is my question.
Can I just flash this via ODIN (pda only) and I will be back at stock ?
Because I watched this video for i9000m users:
http://wn.com/How_to_Flash_A_Galaxy_S_Phone_back_to_Stock_Froyo
In it, the author says to use JPU (a "full rom") and he flashes the modem, pit, partition, pda, etc. -- THEN he flashes to JL2
What's the difference ?
Do I HAVE to use a full rom like JPU first then go to JL2 ?
I want to basically go back to stock vanilla.
If i flash JL2 via PDA only what will happen to the kernal and stuff ? will I still have the super optimized kernel?
Help guys
Hey
I had just done this today. Once you get the JL2 rom from samfirmware, you'll notice that it only has one file inside the extract. That's the only file you need. In other cases you might have 3 files but if you check on the samfirmware website, it also says that in their case, the PDA file is all you need.
Once you have extracted the file, open odin, get into download mode in your phone, connect the phone. Once the box turns yellow, just click on PDA and select the .tar file. Make sure nothing else has been selected. Click start.
Also make sure that you have no lagfix or tweaks enabled just in case as this might screw it up.
Hope that helps

odin failed!

Hi, i have galaxy tab:
PDA: XWJMG
PHONE: XXJMA
Now i started ODIN 1.7 and selected p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar in PDA. I didnt select Re-Partition and did not tick anything and did not select PIT file. Now when i connect it says 'added' and when i click on start it goes through the process and says "failed' in the end. Now my tab shows yellow triangle on it. Help
Do you by any chance have locked bootloaders? Anyway as long as the computer recognizes your tab you can fix it. Just use search.

I dont know about bootloader, its an untouched piece. Please tell me how to fix this tab... :-(
Look at the stickyes in the gsm tab development. Just download a rom that doesn't contain bootloaders and flash it via odin. Again you can find such roms in the development section. Read read and read again and you will be able to fix your tab. One question, why did you flash your tab in the first place?

Download this firmware http://files.deodexed.com/ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet/Rotohammer/JME/
Then goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932082 & read the bit where it says if your tab does not boot...
Hope this helps

You need to dload the P1 hidden pit & full J4 version fw
Is it maybe because the rom you selected says cwm? Isn't that supposed to be flashed in clockwork mod?
Thanks guys for all your help, i flashed pit to my phone via ODIN and piece is alive and working now and gave the tab back to my friend. Now just need to know for the future i have ODIN v1.31 and P1_EUR.pit. I selected pit and P1000JPJJ2 on PDA. Now just need to know before flashing do i need to select repartition?
As i read through the tutorial you only select repartition when you are flashing with the pit file!
If you are installing firmware, Flash the custom kernel that is linked on the same page as the overcome rom 2.13 without partition, Then hold vol up and power will put you in recovery mode, You can flash the rom through there useing the install zip from sdcard option but you must copy the custom rom onto the sd card first....

I had the same problem earlier and then i learned that bootloader for stock JM is signed so it show error ... completion (write) failed ... when you try to upgrade or install custom rom using Odin. I reverted back to resurrect my tab by Odin with pit (follow pit version) and check repartition, auto reboot. It works for me but not sure if it will work for others. Good luck.

can't boot into recovery

After installing the lastest "S.U.R.F.A.C.E" ROM on my GT-I9000 I'm presented with the Galaxy S logo and nothing else,
Tried and tried vol up + home + power number of times now with no avail.
Everything was working fine before was able to boot into clockwork recovery ect, unfortunately I do not have a usb cable so can't try odin any help would be great.
Grab yourself a jig from ebay or the likes, or make one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
It will boot into download fine the problem I have is it won't boot into recovery is there any way I can wipe it or does it look like I am in need of a cable?
Then reflash back to stock using Odin
What were you flashing from as surface is an oxeded rom, not dexeded.

clockwork recovery, i take it I messed up here so
No, meant what rom were you on before your flash? Stock?
oh sorry got the phone of a friend looked like a custom samsung rom, build version was easyprojectv2 if that rings any bells?
Looks like the problem was caused by trying to flash a odexed rom over a deodexed rom, or not having the correct bootloaders for the new rom. Normally before a flash I would return to stock (firmware from sammobiles.com) first via ODIN, do all the wipes, flash a kernel so you have a nice clean install to 'abuse'. Then I would add any custom rom from there be it by ODIN or by cwm.
Grab yourself a usb lead, nice clean flash and start again.
Ok so I've 3 file here:
APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CODE_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
KERNEL_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
s1_odin_20100803.pit (not sure if i need this as was in the root of the odin folder not the firmware?)
Where do the other 3 file go PDA PHONE CSC???
I am also stuck on the same front, i donwloaded rom from samfirmware but it only had PDA part and nothing else, please suggest which official rom should i download??

I would go this way mate, first grab JVT from sammobiles.com ( register first)
Flash that using ODIN
Comes with 3 files, CSC, PHONE and PDA
PDA file goes to PDA in ODIN
PHONE goes into MODEM in ODIN
CSC goes in CSC in ODIN.
Also select PIT file, should be 512 on the PIT section on ODIN, hit start and it will flash then reboot.
Then open ODIN again, connect phone and flash your KERNEL to the PDA section of ODIN.
Then grab this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117579
and flash using cwm.
Your then on JW1 all rooted and ready to play.
put the "APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar" file into the PDA and flashed it. Everything seems to be working fine might stick with the stock for a while never really needed to be rooted.
ok i just popped the SIM and have no network access when i tap on Mobile Networks in the setting it tells me to insert a SIM????
the firmware i had was wrong didnt have a modem. Downloaded a jvt as buttwad said flashed an now everything working perfect now. cheers mate!

i9000 help from cm9

CM9 nice but not ready .... ok, because I'm a noob I have a big problem. I have my new SGS (i9000 3.2.3firmware) with cf-root 2.6 from here (*http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108*). Yesterday put CM9 on it from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593) .. and this morning I do not like it..*so I open cwm and tap to restore from backup ... now my galaxy wont open again... what can i do now??
and odin can see my phone in download mode....
sorry for my bad english, i can speek only greek and german...
did you have a backup to begin with?
if odin can see your phone in download then just flash another rom
It doesn't work because the stock partitions are different to CM9. Flash a stock version of whatever you had before in odin with repartition, then a kernel. Then you should be able to restore your backup from CWM
As posted above. The partitions between CM & stock are different. I did exactly what you did. With the same result.
You can get a stock rom from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
Once you have a stock rom you need to use Odin to install it. You will need to have all three files & the pit file. (phone, modem, csc, pit - 512).
Make sure Kies is not running & open Odin. Click re-Partition. Click PIT & select your pit file, Click PDA & select file with PDA in name, click phone select file with phone in name, click CSS & select file with CSC in name.
Once you are ready with this start phone in download mode. Once in download mode attach phone to usb cable wait for top left corner to go green & click start.
This can take some time but once complete phone should restart. At this point my phone got stuck (either boot loop or black screen I can't remember)
If this happens don't panic just remove phone from USB & restart odin. Now make sure re-partition is unchecked & select the three previous files again, don't select pit file. Again put phone in download mode (you may need to pull battery first) wait for Odin to be ready & click start. This time when the phone reboots it should start although this can take a little longer than usual.
Once started I always like to reboot a couple times & clear cache & do factory reset in recovery.
