I need good sound call quality(I saw people say andromeda have poor call quality), good battery life, good wifi signal and good gps.
I wan high benchmark too(does benchmark affects performance a lot?)
what is the main different there 2 rom ?
can they be flashed by aio captivate toolbox?

From what i hear, cognition has great battery but continuum is faster. But that is just what i hear, to really see what you like you should try both out.

Continuum has a very nice gui and battery life isn't shabby either..
i dont know anything about flashing yet, so i think im gona flash once only coz im scared that i will brick my phone
There is no reason to be scared, do some reading. As long as you follow directions and dont pull any plugs, it is safe. I have been flashing since christmas and havent had a problen.

flashed cognition 4.1.1 today. will report back tomorrow
i heard cognition 4.1 have gps prob?
The GPS works in cognition 4.1.1
...not the greatest, but it works
I like cognition roms because they are very stock-like... If that makes sense... Battery life is great too, I get a days use with heavy data usage and texting. Haven't tried the continuum rom yet, so you would probably want to go skim the threads for more info

People can you recomend me a good froyo ROM? I would like it to have fair battery life, speed, stability, and good for day to day use. Give me what you think is best under these conditions thanks!

I would kinda like an answer to this question as well. I am going to be rooting my friends G1 and he would really like a 2.2 rom with good battery life. I am new to anything G1 so any help would be great. Note: I have experience rooting and installing custom rom's on my EVO. Thanks guys.
So far, BiffMod 2.0.1 has been the best Froyo ROM that I've tried out. It has stability, speed, and customization. There's like 5 themes to choose from, which I thought was cool. It also has all the unnecessary stuff taken out of it. I'd recommend trying it out.
Thanks for the suggestion Skate. I appreciate it. Ill have my friend try it out and see if he likes it.

is there a good guide for upgrading from CM 4.2 to Biffmod? I'm currently on radio 1.22.12.29, which seems to be a no-no in some guides I've seen around for any upgrade
sparksmod is good but its bad on battery life
tried searching around for cyanogen 4.2 biffmod 2.1 but all I get is a list of roms, is there a guide anybody knows of for doing the upgrade?
Been using this for awhile, never had any issues, decent battery life and has great speed. Search for [ROM][Beta][in-development] jMod 2.2/AOSP 2.2 - Android for the rest of us - 08/05/10 its no longer developed though.
@Wright. Make sure that you show your friend the ropes about flashing froyo. Running froyo isn't a easy task at all. I've tried all of them and they always end up with some issue. Try Biff for now its the most stable froyo rom to date.

If you want to complain about the battery life, then complain to pershoot and cyanogenmod, because they are the ones that make the kernels, not me.

Yeah same here biffmodV2.1 is the ****, the only thing is that i might have to buy an extended battery since i only navigate with wifi, but when it is on idle it probably loses 1 percent in 5 hours.
i reccomend froyo by laszlo, froyo yoshi, biffmod and sparksmod
Please! I know that 2.2.1 is the new rage on the Milestone but not everyone wants to run a beta/buggy release yet that's not that great on battery.
Remember when XP Beta/Vista Beta/7 Beta came out? Some people ran them, but many eager tweakers still dual booted because a beta OS is not meant to be 24/7 stable.
Well same here. I don't mind playing with 2.2.1 from time to time, but I'd like a stable Eclair ROM.
I know there are Eclair ROMs out there, but calling all ROM devs, please don't just ditch 2.1 like that. There are great ROMs already out there, but we'd all appreciate it if you all kept up the great work and added/fixed stuff in those already awesome 2.1 ROMs.
I tend to agree. 2.2.1 is just too buggy and uses too much battery imo.

You did not try Cronos 1.5.0 did you? Anyhow I will bump a question to Feeyo if he could build up an Eclair AOSP rom.
Like 89luca89 said, there already are Eclair ROMs. And they were prety much developed to what they can be, so rly no point to further develop them, except for some theme changes not much can be improved on them.
It is hardly a month since 2.2.1 GOT leak, and the worse hickup(battery drain) seems to be finaly brought to Eclair level or will be in near future in some ROMs.
Maybe the last reason to use Eclair now is if you need cifs.ko module and some others not yet made for 2.2.

There's bugs. Look at the Telus lite thread and people talk about bugs. HoNo's own ROM has the music bug that brings it to the original Telus 2.1 level.
Which 2.2.1 rom has anywhere the batter life of the eclair roms? I'm nearly 16 hours into this charge and after heavy use I still have 40% battery left and I'm overclocked to 800mhz. I've tried a couple 2.2.1 roms and none come close to the performance I'm getting with the eclairmod. When battery life is as good as this, perhaps ill switch butbfor now I have no reason to switch.

The last cm6 for milestone is way way better -batterywise- than stock 2.1,of course much faster, but the battery life is fantastic if you install it properly and maybe use conservative governor.

well there is enough 2.1 and 2.2.1 ROMs around for everyone. I don't see the need for more.
I haven't flashed a new ROM in awhile and really don't want to have to go through every ROM/modem combination to find one that works for my needs. I know plenty of folks here go through almost every ROM that is available so I'm hoping to pick your brains.
1) I'm NOT asking "what is the best ROM". I <3 -all- of the ROM authors and don't wish to start that kind of mess.
2) I'm willing to try a couple of combinations to see.
3) My Cappy is brand new (I just exchanged my old one under warranty since I was one of those in the original batch that got the lovely random shutdown issue even with 2.1-update1) ... not sure if that is going to matter or not but I've read a lot of posts that seem to make it clear that different Cappy batches behave better with different ROMs.
So ... what I'm primarily looking for:
* I'm on AT&T so I need 850
* I would REALLY like to get improved GPS performance ... I don't want to buy a standalone GPS (wife has one, I'll use it when I have to) ... right now even with the GPS tweaks like Skyhook I'm just not getting acceptable lock times and it loves to break lock.
* HSUPA ... I'd like to enable HSUPA. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area with a new 3G tower and small population, which means I know there is more bandwidth available so I might as well use it. Especially since on occasion I need to tether.
* I don't want to lose noise cancellation
* I would like a ROM with good battery performance
Otherwise I'm not concerned with new features ... besides the issues above I do fine with the 2.1 ROM (not saying I don't want 2.2, just saying I don't care whether the custom ROM includes custom launchers, themes, etc). I would -like- working Bluetooth + HSUPA but my version of "working Bluetooth" doesn't care about voice dialing.
PS. I've read a number of threads on ROMs and modems ... but my brain hit information overload once I started trying to match up both. I probably could have settled on a single ROM -or- modem, but trying to get them to mesh well just didn't compute.
Everyone has different experiences with different roms. I know it's a cliche but it's true. I've had pretty much no gps in a rom that boasts about gps. Best to try each rom and see if you like any.

Personally I love my combo of darky's 9.1 with suckerpunch oc/uv kernel and the tjl3 modem. I really haven't used the gps much and so I can't say about that (make sure to use faster fix to get the right region). The battery life is all day for me and I use stereo bluetooth headphones all day. I really like the look too. I don't know if it has noise canceling though. Hopefully this is helpful.

The only way to have noise cancellation is to stay with 2.1. From what I understand, att is the only one to have included the noise cancellation chip and since we do not yet have an official Att 2.2 source we can not take advantage of the chip.
Not sure on this one, but doesn't i9000 based roms have the bt static issue? And is the i9000 roms the only ones that let you have hsupa? Sorry a lot of information is on this site and I am trying to learn as much as I can.

Started with the included modem (??), flashed jk4 with CWM (didn't help), moved to Telus JL3. I like JL3 better right now.
Just know that you have to pay attention to what ROM you're using. If you're running a I9000 rom, you have to use a I9000 modem.

Any ROMS that Adam makes are awesome cause they're stupid fast and snappy including Firefly which he previously worked on. Right now I'm using Ryude's Precision 3.5 with UC/UV and getting awesome battery life (about 28-30 hours single charge) as a moderate to heavy user without sacrificing speed and stability. If it wasn't for me tweaking out a few things and soft bricking my phone previously running SuperNova 2.3, I think I would have stuck with it for a LONG time but meh, trying new ROMs never hurts.

Meh, I tried it, but I'm not really a fan of the true captivate firmware, it just seems to lack the punch of i-9000 roms.
Fasty is currently my wife's ROM of choice. Seems to be a pretty decent choice for KB1, though the icons lack a certain "unity". Personally, I prefer Gingerbread based ROMs.
Fasty v2.5 was released. I have been using it for a couple of months now. Probably the longest I have used a single ROM.
I have to say its great. For me its the fastest most stable ROM I have used on my Captivate. Pretty safe as well. Really good battery life.
I have tried GB ROMs as well and still come back to Fasty.

Good Luck !

I've had Fasty 2.4 installed for 3 days now. Being my first ROM I'm very happy with it. Very stable, no problems at all. Very responsive. Have not had a true test of maximum battery life yet as I've been doing a lot of streaming of music since I installed it. When I get back to work next week I'll find out more about real battery life. Two to three hours of streaming puts the battery down to 15% after 8 hours. Expecting much longer under normal conditions.
