[Solved] Screen on while plugged in. I want to change this setting - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, prior to updating to 2.2 I had been testing s couple of things and had my screen set to stay on while plugged in. After the update to Froyo the menu option in "settings" was removed.
However, now I am stuck in screen on mode. (they took the settings control away but didn't change the setting to what they want ) It's pretty annoying because for various reasons the screen chooses to wake up from time to time while charging and I'm a little concerned about burn-in. This makes it so I can't charge the phone unless it is sitting in front of me.
Can someone point me to where this setting might be stored. I'm happy to edit a DB from command line or tweak a settings file... I just don't know where to begin to look.
-p

I'll answer my own question.
In the database
/dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/settings.db
in the table "system" there is an entry "stay_on_while_plugged_in" with a setting of "3" for me..
http://developer.android.com/refere...Settings.System.html#STAY_ON_WHILE_PLUGGED_IN says 0 means off and 1 and 2 have to do with the constants
BATTERY_PLUGGED_AC and
BATTERY_PLUGGED_USB
since these values can be OR-ed together 3 means stay on for USB or AC
I changed it to 0 and am back to normal.
While I as in there I also chose to enable non-market apps since I hadn't done that yet...

Hi,
I'm actually trying to do the opposite. But after modifying it, and rebooting, it comes back with the original values.
I modified the value from 0 to 3 using SQLite Editor. This is after copying the settings.db file to /sdcard, modifying it, writing it back to /dbdata/databases... , and finally changing the permissions and ownership.
I'm running stock Froyo with overstock kernel, rooted (obviously), and voodoo lagfix turned on.
I had sideloading-enabled previously while in Eclair, and after updating it using mini-Kies to stock Froyo, it was still enabled so I didn't bother to do anything with the settings.db file until now.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Screen lag - registry related??

Before you tell me to search; I have been for well over an hour. Screen lag, screen, lag, rotate, slow rotation, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah has turned up nothing for me yet. I am on an ATT Tilt, stock rom minus some bloatware, very clean almost nothing extraneous installed. When switching to landscape, it would take maybe a second to rotate. After playing a bit with KaiserTweak and MemMaid (no other changes) it can now take up to 4 seconds for initial rotation. Switch back to portrait is still very quick. Can't figure out what change may have done this, any thoughts?
You are experiencing the lack of acceleration for the video chipset on these units. There is a petition going for HTC to provide a DirectX compliant video driver a couple of stickies up.
Actually, I've been using this phone for 2 weeks now without this problem. I remember reading posts on here somewhere about this issue, but seeing as my rotation was almost instantaneous, I thought maybe this was only nitpicking. Now that I have played with the registry some, I have the same problem. My screen rotation was usually about 1 second. Problem is, I made many of the recommended changes for better performance, and I don't know which could have caused this.
Try setting all your KaiserTweak settings to the default, and see if it makes a difference. Then get back to us and tell us if it does .
Okay, had to leave things alone till I got back from work. The problem with just setting everything in kaisertweak back to default was that I had played a good deal with the registry before I ever installed it, so default was not going to get me back to my starting point anyways. I did try to go back to default though but that just screwed something else up. So after completely screwing up my registry, I did a hard reset, and lo and behold, quick rotation. My switch from portrait to landscape is about a one second, or less, delay again. I reinstalled all of my programs and checked it again, and it still works great. I really believe my delay was caused by something in the registry and not driver related because it works great now. Also, I am in no way blaming kaisertweak or any other program here. I simply believe one of the changes I had already made was somehow conflicting with one of these programs. For anyone that thinks this is simply driver related; maybe we should be looking a little harder at some of our registry values.

[Soloution] - camera problem in duttys excellent new rom (i think)

Hello all, after some extensive messing with the registry settings for the camera, my phone now seems to take photos in the correct orientation here's what i changed i think!!
HKLM\software\HTC\Camera\common\rotate set value to 0 (may already be 0)
HKLM\software\HTC\Camera\image\enableencodeportrait set value to 0
i know this is relevant to the main thread however its got too long and i fear many soloutionm may have been lost. it may also require a soft reset. i have extensively messed with the values for this and it kinda suddenly worked however i think this is what is required. i have not installed any rotation applications, nor have they been installed since a hard reset so that has no influence in my case.
i hope this helps, if not i will attempt to do a more thorough comparison with an unchanged regristry to get the definitive answer
regards
(all mods made at your own RISK!!)

this working at all?
Not for me . These were the default settings that I already had and I have the bug. I'm playing with other settings now and will report back if I find anything.

[Q]Battery History and Network Usage problem

After i installed Froyo i noticed my battery life was drained faster than usual, on eclair i had ~48 hours, now on froyo max 24h.Just to note, i have stock Froyo+z4root+z4mod.
After playing around it for a bit, i entered battery history, and under Network usage tab, i have a process named 0, wich usess 100%, and kills my battery. When i try to click it i get a force close from application settings and nothing happens.
Anybody has any ideea what this is? or how to fix it or something
Are you using any lagfix?
I have already mentioned i'm using Z4root+Z4mod.
I have the same problem on stock ZSJPD and Speedmod k9a. Any help would be appreciated.
I have the same problem too. Someone please help.
Wow I have this same issue
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
After looking around in this forum i found that there are others that have this problem with HTC smartphones, so its not SGS exclusive, wich probably means its either somehow a linux process, or, its an application that does this.
Tryied using Droid Wall to kill most apps from internet acces(not all) the process is stil there and eating away my battery >.<
Bumpiti bump, is there a way to even try to diagnose this?
im having the same issue but not only the 0 process , i have UID 10007 and dialer also competing with 0 . all of them are hurting the batt bad. couldn't get to find what the 0 process is , im guessing its something from samsungs side thats buggy and it doesn't showup on ATK too ..... i know that samsung service center over here r not qualified regarding such technical matters and all they'll do if format the phone and give it back with a fresh install of 2.2
any devs/techs around that can find or lead us towards the culprit ?
Hmm, bump, have this problem too. On doc's bujp8 and hardcore's k9a kernel if that's any use.
Having the same problem now on JPU, was fine on JP6 earlier.
Guys please help !!!
bump,same prob!
Apparently '0' is the linux root process
It looks like at least some of you (most? all?) are running non-standard firmwares.
I live in Canada and am using the SGS on Bell Canada. Examples of my native firmwares are JH2 (2.1) and JK3 (2.2). I was having TERRIBLE battery performance when I flashed a non-native firmware and didn't get back to anything decent until I flashed the right modem for my region and enabled the 850 band which wasn't enabled by default by the firmware I had flashed.
Also, look into your WIFI sleep policy. This can have a huge impact. I leave mine as "sleep when screen turns off". I don't recall what the 2.2 default setting is.
Menu > Settings > Wireless and network > WIFI settings > menu / Advanced > WIFI sleep policy > edit & menu/Save
I have stock froyo that came with kies(not patched or anything), so the first part of your statement is irelevant.

They're simply tips and suggestions. I'll try and be less helpful next time.
I know, thanks for the suggestions, the thing is that our problem is just frustrating(with the unknown battery draining processes) and not something that can be solved by using the search button

XD Adroid Questions, Too new to post in Dev, forum.

I have an HTC pure, running Energy Rom, SPB mobile shell 3.5.5, and XDAndroid.
Here are my questions.
1. XD Android keyboard is t9 and in japanese. I dwnld'd gineger bread keyboard, which didnt change the look at all. (yes, I am sure i had it installed and set up in settings correctly.) So what IME can I use to replace annoying japanese keyboard? Which also has no option to close keyboard (hard key back button works, but will often close app im using)
2. I can make calls, and recieve them, but THERES NO SOUND! no in call volume, period, adjusted every setting I can find. checked my startup .txt file, added suggested controll lines, no change.
3. Sleep button (remapped to end key) works about 10% of the time, only when turning screen off is it 100%, getting screen back on, is a crap shoot. why is this? buttons light up, dim in and out, but no screen response, have to hit it a bajillion times, to get a response, and sometimes the old on/off/power button (top) will turn screen on... and my LED is going nuts, back and forth from yellow to orange, constantly.. I read nearly 25+ pages of the XD android thread, no help there...
4. No droid on boot, Seems I have to boot android from the haret.exe starter, everytime I want droid running, why doesn't it boot with phone?
5. No SD card, I have on in, and its got all my droid related files on the root, but no app 2 sd b/c it doesn't read the card as being mounted.
6. live backgrounds, animated backgrounds arent working either? could be just the device, but idk anything about this..
7. what is the processor speed on a pure, and what is overclocking, what does it do, and should i pursue this with spb, windos 6.5 etc running..?
8. If I can get froyo on my winmo pure, why cant I get it on my aria? and what can you do to an aria? seems like nothing... stupid att?
9. is there a way to speed up android on my pure? should I wipe my phone clean, flash a low ram using rom, and then re install droid?
10. every so often when in market, phone reverts to flying droids spelling xdandroid, and gets looped there. wtf.
It's a big set of issues, hope help is on the way, also, I have searched, ad searched, so please, if you have nothing relavent to offer me in response to my questions, just leave.
Okay, fixed they keyboard issue, but it wont set a keyboard other than the stock one to default, I have to change it every time I type, or select a text box.
Annoying but an improvement.
Still not recognizing my SD card, and the camera isnt working period, been through multiple kernels, fx03 fx02, tried several command lins in my image text.
Still nothing.
Call issue seems to beback and forth, had my g/f call me sitting on the couch, and the call had sound, went through perfect. Went outside, and nothing, n o ring, no nothing, and went to voicemail on her end. visa versa, when I her phone rang, and connected, still no sound. seems to have a 1 in 5-8 sucess rate..
and still having issues with turning on the screen, once off, it takes several try's and multiple button clicks to get any response. Just led flickering and lots of dimming/lighting buttons.
all in all however, the look on my ATT store rep. when i whipped out my PURE, set it next to my aria, and said, "pure has froyo, aria is eclair" he about ****.. "how do you have froyo on a winmo phone??"
Magic
Thanks XDA, you guys are awesome! (plus with my windows rom running i have tehering for wi-fi router, and ability to side load apps into android on here makes it about 10X cooler than my aria, now if only stability, performance, and a better touchscreen, were factors..
Lastly, what can I do about the hardware issues, I realise the Pure must not have a very fast CPU, and WTF is over clocking and what are it's pro's cons'?
Seriously,o one can say anything about this after over one hundred views... wow guys, just wow.
I am right there with you. :/

[HELP] with Milaq's [11.08.28] CM 6.3.2 (Froyo)

Hi guys,
I just came from CM7 to this CM6 by Milaq. Love it, everything is much faster, always enough RAM.
I did 3 wipes, flashed ROM through OpenRecovery, reboot, flash gapps for HDPI, reboot, and then restored some apps with titanium backup.
I'm having some issues, I'll list them in order of how much they're bothering me:
1) A bunch of system apps aren't showing up in the market and therefore aren't getting updated. Ex. Facebook, youtube, twitter, etc. What do I do and why did this happen?
2) Titanium backup seems to fail at restoring data for a lot of apps (ex. Shazam, LauncherPro, ColorNote, etc). At the very least I want my Shazam tags back. It doesn't say it fails, it says it's successful but once you open the app, the data isn't there. Interestingly enough, the data IS there in /data/data, at this point basically just taking up space. Now I'm wondering how many apps it restored data to which the data just sits there, useless.
3) The custom LED blink frequency in HandcentSMS just broke. It was working fine until I turned the CM setting "succession" on, and then off. Basically now the LED either blinks as it wants to (no matter what setting), or will stay on if I choose the "Default" setting OR a custom setting with 0 for the "off time."
HELP please?!?
I have had similar problems with market some time ago once switched from CM7 to CM6. I did several cleanups of the marked data and even full wipe plus SD card cleanup (there are some system folders) and suddenly it helped. Can't confirm what are the correct steps to recover from the problem ...
Additionaly had an impression the Google backup is causing some troubles so disabled it.
Edit:
The led blinking is controled by some hardware device so either you can't change the frequency OR apps controls the led by itself using main CPU, which costs extra battery ...
I stay with apps settings only and not change anything by CM settings and works fine. Every time have beeing playing with CM led settings ends up with some mess I could not recover from.

1) is solved: I fixed the market by rolling back to the old market that is included with gapps. I forgot to write that I had updated to the new one (provided by Milaq though so I thought it'd be fine). All apps are seen now.
3) As for the LED, I know what you mean, as soon as you touch CM settings it gets messed up!!! How can I reset the CM settings? Tried data wipe through titanium backup on CM settings but it didn't do a thing... This is gonna bother me to no end.
EDIT: I somehow managed to find this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18051-solid-led-notifications/
Going to CM settings, selecting Succession and then clicking cancel at the dialog box seems to have brought the blinking frequency function back to handcent. Although...it's kind of buggy, doesn't alway blink properly. But at least some change is visible now. Does your led listen perfectly to on and off times?
