[Q] CM7 RC2 or CM6.1.2 - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

hey frnds .. i jus need a vote on which is better for r milestones .. in terms of performance stability and all tht jazz
CM7 RC2 or CM6.1.2 ?

CM7 RC2 Is amazing.

I think that CM6 is more stable than CM7 and have a more free ram memory. But CM7 is almost 2.3.3 ... and it's works pretty well.

I like the way that that gb prompt/lists apps for redownload now.
Easier to setup on a different phone, if you use more than one.
i also find the whole thikng more stable since 2 releases ago.
I never had major issues with cm6, but cm7 just flies.
Forget the crap about lower ram, etc. My phone feels snappier. But i dont play games...

Try the iceandfire versions of CM, they are pretty speedy

I love gingerbread on my Droid so far very solid. It doesn't quadrant score very high but hell the phone runs just awesome

I am on CM6 currently.... in it had been quite stable..been using the rom for almost a month now and could not find a better rom that cm6 in terms of stability(ignoring the long pause that require you to press sleep button and then unlock back to continue issue).
I had not tried cm7(although tried it once). just wondering can cm7 match the stability that cm6 provide?

the Cm7 and Cm6 have still the same bugs as the official 2.2.1.
-some apps are not working
and also they both are even more unstable.
If you want a stable Phone the only way right now is 2.1 official.
I have tested cm7 and cm6 and returned back to 2.1 since, the phone chrashes to often.

erm....

Maybe you're doing something wrong. Widgetlocker crashes too often on your super stable, 2.1 official, certified, and blessed by motorola, phone, after all.

Which ROM would you currently use

Hello,
so just to see in 2011 what people are using!
I am using HoboMod and I like it very much.
-You seem to forgot to include IceAndFire ROM
New FroyoMod seems to be the best choice for now.

OK, in 10 days someone else can do a new poll! As ROM's change so fast, that every month there a new best one!
I believe Shadowmod BR Gingerbread is the fastest amongst all. A lot faster than CM7

i didnt try that yet. Do you have any random reboots?
I'm relatively new to the Milestone, and CM7 is the first custom ROM I've tried. For something labeled "alpha/preview" it's remarkably stable, and I've had very few problems with it.
I'm using Froyo 2.4.0C, I like it very much but had some random reboots lately. So I'm planing on uprading to 2.5 or going to CM7.
CM7 and I like it
id say froyomod the fastest and stable...
CM7 nightlies #40
Cyanogenmod 7 but its for now too buggy. im waiting 1-2 months.
MIUI of course, I just cant live without all of it additions like the mp3 player and so on.
I'm testing now Cronos Ginger 1.0.0 (CM7) , it's pretty fast.
I'm using FroyoMod. It's the only one I actually tried and I fell in love with it!
(actually that's not true... I tried MIUI too, but I just didn't like it)

No reboots experienced. I overclocked to 800/500/250/125 with vsels 52/49/40/32.
Sometimes(very rarely) the phone freezes for few seconds...but it comes around very quick right away...
Anyways Shadowmod Br Gingerbread b3 is extremely fast...lot faster than the others...and I always have 70-80mb RAM free...

CM7 to CM6 to correct "the wonk"?

Hello,
I have only had my N1 a few days and I am experiencing what I believe people refer to as "the wonk". What I am looking for is the most stable, rooted rom out there that has no such issues. I just want everything to work.
Should I downgrade back to CM6?
If I downgrade, do I have to change radios and/or HBOOT? I have upgraded these to the latest available.
Thanks for the info.
-D
Stable rom is cm6.1.1. I'm using that while cm7 tries to get stable and free of wonks.
Wonks only affect cm7.

Also note that the mic delays on incoming calls are a known gb issue and are not specific to cm as it is inherent in the stock Ota rom as well.
Thanks guys. I just noticed that this is in the incorrect forum. My apologies.

Why not just use DeWonkifier?
In my opinion, the "dewonkifier" is a band-aide and not a fix. I would prefer the phone have as clean and bug free code as possible.
I'll install CM7 when the wonk issues are corrected.
The gingerbread base doesnt offer enough for me to sacrifice usability of my phone.
I am disappointed that I upgraded from an Aria to an N1 and have to downgrade the software. I expected the N1 to have everything work perfectly since its the original flagship phone for Google.

Well the only thing holding back your nexus is you!. For my nexus the only bug is the 2 second delay and I can live with that. Dewonkificator ftw
Btw, CM7 is available for your aria too.
Cyan 6.1 is super stable and smooth, and fast. Its also much more feature complete right now over cyan 7. They are still bringing all the features over to 2.3. So its a very good experience using cyan 6 right now.

I actually found CM7 with Launcher PRO to be buttery smooth, more so than CM6. My quadrant score dropped a little, but who cares. No wonk for me though.

i find cyan 6 smoother though. my quadrant scores dropped a good bit on cyan 7, but also things scroll laggy like tapatalk threads, certain long lists, handcent threads, etc. these were smooth in froyo. though i agree launcher pro homescreens are buttery smooth on cyan 7. its just other things arent for me.

What is the most stable and user friendly ROM?

I'm thinking of giving my milestone to my dad. He's still using those flip phones. He basically use it for calls only. It would have to have really big text and user friendly. And also stable. Which ROM do you think is suitable for my dad?
I'd go with FroyoMod, it's fast and stable.
Why not flash it back to stock 2.2 froyo for him.
While I always run Custom ROM's, I have never found one that isn't at least a little buggy.
IMO, nothing is as stable as stock.
But stock definitely isn't as fun either

Stock Froyo IS one big Bug
Stable Stock is 2.1-update1, nothing else !
I have best Results with TheFroyoMOD, more less bugs than any GB-Rom.

How is MIUI on milestone in relation to ram consumption and overall snapiness of the phone? CM7 on my milestone used up almost all of the ram, causing a lot of redraws, apps closing, etc.

MIUI has always been a very tricky ROM to fiddle with. If you run a home replacement app and have widgets on the screen, you will find that RAM becomes an issue, due to the large chunk already allocated to the complex UI. CM7 has gotten better with RAM management with time.
The best ROM I've ever used on my Milestone is Milaq's CM 6.1.2. It's fast and almost bug-less. With the memory script (not zeppelin's mem tweak... the other) it's even snappier.
I switch between HO!NO! and MIUI.. i love these ROMs..
I switch between FroyoMod and CyanogenMod! But CyanogenMod has more useful features!
I'm using Milaq's CM6. Its pretty good!

Fast/smooth miui

I was thinking about trying out miui. The only problem is that there seems to be so many different versions. What version would you say is the fastest and smoothest on our incredible s. After all it is meant to look like an iPhone

I can only say that the one I have tried which is MIUI.us 11230 is not smooth especially in app with very long window and a lot of text, say Green Power settings.

Has anyone tried gal net weekly build?
I think instead of keeping asking ppl, why not try it yourself? Like me. Doing a nandroid backup is not really hard, or is it?
EDIT: Latest galnet weekly build is not really good. Lag like hell and my phone can't receive any signal.

Which ROM to install?

Hello,
I have my A853 Milestone for about a year and a half.
Currently I have the HO!NO! Cyanogen mod installed on it.
The problem is that the device is very slow, it always crash and games are super laggy (like Angry Birds) or it crashes (like Draw Something).
Which ROM should I install?
I want it to be stable, quick and run games like it should run them.
Thanks

I've had my OG droid for over two years, and I think I've tried every possible ROM there is. The Gingerbread ROM are nice, but they lag really badly on the device. It doesn't have the CPU or memory to handle it well enough. You could do it, but things like the camera and games will almost always end up bogging the device to unresponsive.
I've had the best luck with Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.95. It s a 2.2.1 ROM (Froyo) and it is really smooth. The camera actually works which is a problem for most of the GB ROMs. Bugless Beast is also a good ROM.

I installed TheFroyoMod 2.9.3 and now the device is much better.
It runs smoothly, Draw Something actually works (pretty smooth), it's stable and I recommand you to install it too.
It makes sense because the device officially support 2.2 and not 2.3, it has resources for 2.2 but not enough for 2.3
Rom
I play zenonia in froyo mod with minimal lags. I think it is the best rom for gaming.

What's wrong with CM 7.2.0 RC1 by kabaldan? I'm planing to install it on my 2.2 stock ROM but retain the 600mhz frequency for battery life reason. Would I suffer worse performance than my current stock?
thanks
I'm in the same boat as the OP.
I am setting up my friend's OG Droid and I'm curious the best ROM.
I have to say I'm pretty happy with CM 7.1 stable release so far. It works great so far and I haven't noticed any problems. The camera seems fine.
Is GB really that bad?
I did try CM 7.2 experimental build (from CM download page) and it was working great until I noticed that the flashlight app, torch wouldn't work. I really wanted it to work in the Power Widget. After screwing around with it for quite a while, I ended reflashing back to CM7.1 stable.
Assuming games won't be games played on the device, I think that CM7 is the way to go unless there are more RAM-hogging apps running. I'm a newb to the OG Droid though.
*EDIT*
P.S. Do you guys have a favorite recovery? I am using CWM 2.5.0.1. The weird thing is it doesn't display Dalvik as wiped when I wipe Dalvik Cache. I dunno if it is a problem or not. I actually searched around a fair bit. What is the best recovery for the OG Droid? Stability, nandroids, and functionality are key. I don't care about touch interface.
Thanks. Feel free to flame me if I am overlooking this info.
recovery i use minimod, hava any scripts (supercharge), unistall system apps, backup apps and have a script to wipe a ext partition.
I used all roms for milestone and cm6 (or shadowmod discontinued a long time ago ) is the best, the only one it works fine, another roms always have a problem with performance (i don't play in my phone).
I have been runnning a rooted overclocked (800mhz) stock rom for ages, but still had issues with it freezing when surfing and quitting apps.
Yesterday I finally got round to changing to CM 7.2.0 RC1. Performance is so much better, more options, smoother scrolling, but the battery life is worse. I had to charge it twice today which is usually a rare occurance. So I have knocked it back down to 800mhz again from 1ghz, setup the 2g toggle, and made a few other tweeks. Will see how that does for now, but if not then will look into battery calibration.
I rarely use my phone for gaming, so couldn't comment on the performance, but if its anything like what I experienced elsewhere you should be happy. Slightly earlier builds have been mentioned to have a better battery life too.
Hope that helps
Best ROM on the Milestone right now? MIUI 2.4.20 hands down.
Damn... new users can't post outside link but Google it.
And btw, it seems that the ROM was designed for Chinese Milestone so the physical keyboard layout is kinda messed up if you use Europe or HK milestone. And since I don't use the physical keyboard at all so it's not a huge problem. But seriously, this is the best damn thing you can put on a Milestone, try it out
Cheers

While it will probably work better than a stock ROM, I'd suggest you try a Froyo based ROM. The biggest issue with GB on a Milestone is the RAM. I tried out every single workaround I came across for over a year, only to end up going back to CM6 (vikasbn's version).

That's the one I'm currently using and so far it's worked like charm. It's also the only one that seems to be updated.
Hello everyone,
I have an A853 (Milestone). I am looking for advice on what SBF and ROM to install, and how to optimize the performance.
I hope it is ok for me to join this thread (instead of opening a new one). Below are my concerns; I am looking forward to advice from experienced forum members (reading from your posts, you definitively are experienced):
1. underlying firmware (OS)
If I understand correctly, due to the locked bootloader I can only change which kernel I will be running by flashing a different SBF file:
- SHOLS_U2_02.31.0 (I believe this is stock Eclair?)
- SHOLS_U2_05.26.3 (and this should be stock Froyo?)
Which SBF should I flash my phone with, so that the ROM I will later choose will work best? Of course, I'll apply a vulnerable SBF afterwards.
2. ROM
I am most keen on MIUI (the latest and final build for this device is 2.4.20?), since I was using it before and I really like its user interface. However, I experienced some problems with it (unresponsive/laggy, not receiving SMS messages after some time, etc.).
Is the MIUI-derivate NIMIUI any better? Moreover, I saw there is another ''chef'' quynhnt that is further developing NIMIUI but I see user responses that it is kind of buggy?
I've tried FroyoMOD which seemed the fastest to me (although I would be really missing MIUI features), however it did not let me connect to my home WiFi (WPA2+AES+Radius) so I let it go.
ICS seems kind of no-go to me because Milestone only has 256MB of RAM (which is very little); I've tried the unofficial alpha CM9 and although everything worked, it was just too laggy. I believe the unofficial MIUI v4 would be the same.
Any suggestions? I am leaning towards official MIUI but with thorough testing of incoming SMS (I can't afford not to receive them) and additional optimizations that are decribed below. Or am I missing something?
3. optimizations
SuperCharger
Definitively I would like to use the SuperCharger V6 (or is it V8 - any differences?). Which settings profile should I select based on the following demands:
- I don't play games on my phone
- I want a responsive phone with no lag
- The most demanding app I use is Exchange sync (6 accounts), nothing more
Build.prop modifications?
Should I take care of anything here? Maybe change the Dalvik heap size (to what?)
ext3 on sdcard
Can this somehow help me? I have prepared a functioning ext3 partition on my sd, I just don't know if it is possible to somehow manage a swapfile on it and if this should help my phone being less laggy? Can MIUI handle this out-of-the-box?
I kindly thank to anyone who would be willing to help me with advice.
Best regards, d11
I got an OG Droid i use for multimedia... The screen is crystal clear with LIquid Smooth... the launcher sometimes gets buggy but everything works including torch etc... It basically made an old system useful again. I'll try out other system and post my results... Froyo versions first and so on...
