The Unofficial XDA-Developers Speed Wave @ Speedtest.net - Off-topic

Hey all,
I've created an unofficial XDA-Devs Speed Wave at Speedtest.net, just go to http://www.speedtest.net/wave/a33f2bf25344fb73 and do the speed test to add your results and see who has the fastest internet (NOTE: Mbps is megabits per second, not megabytes per second)
Leaderboard (Download Speed):
1. #303836358 (13.99 Mbps, Charter Communications)
2. BodenM (9.74 Mbps, Telstra Internet)
3. BodenM (9.54 Mbps, NSW Department of Education & Training)
4. BodenM (6.04 Mbps, NSW Department of Education & Training)
5. #114749888 (4.67 Mbps, UTV Internet)
6. #303962018 (3.11 Mbps, Bell South)
7. #303843167 (2.98 Mbps, T-Mobile USA)
Leaderboard (Upload Speed):
1. BodenM (8.79 Mbps, NSW Department of Education & Training)
2. BodenM (8.59 Mbps, NSW Department of Education & Training)
3. #303843167 (1.05 Mbps, T-Mobile USA)
4. #303836358 (0.87 Mbps, Charter Communications)
5. BodenM (0.84 Mbps, Telstra Internet)
6. #303962018 (0.41 Mbps, Bell South)
7. #114749888 (0.32 Mbps, UTV Internet)

Cool thanks for this

Haha. I only have ~10 down, but up, it's only .5 . Imagine uploading an 18MP photograph, which is about 8 Mb...and now imagine uploading a 5 minute video filmed in HD at 1080p, which is about 3-4Gb, on .5Mbps up stream.

It takes equal amounts of data, H just does it faster. And speeds depends on your modem, and the service where you live.

If I'm correct, it's showing the cell tower icons in the picture next to the recorded speeds, so he is receiving those speeds on HSDPA/HSUPA. Great download speeds, I average between 3-4mb/s. LTE is not 4G.

LTE HSPA+ WIMAX are still in the 3G umbrella.

I don't understand why the download speed jumps from being slow (for this test just now, it started at around 11, slowly creeping up to 40ish), then jump to incredible speed (jumped to ~400-500), and speedtest.net just randomly decides a number for the download result...
The number is an average, lol. Might be the way that fiber optics work. And I am super mad at Verizon for not offering FIOS in my area yet. I'm stuck with TWC @ 10 down and .5 up.

With close servers, yes. Servers very far, nope; it's just slow.
Other speed tests, like SpeakEasy and DSLReports, do do that also. DSLReports Java tests, however, are more stable (doesn't go up to the said 500ish, but only upto around 100 when it jumps).

What speed are you subscribed to. I don't know much about fios except we don't have it here. If its anything like charter and Comcast do though its probably a speed boost at the beginning of your download. It it is then a speed test that runs past the boost would show it slow back down some.

40down, 30up. When I'm downloading something big off direct connects, it caps out around 5-6MB/s and stays like that until completed download, which is around 40Mb/s, so I do get the full speed, but for speed tests, it jumps like that...
One possibility is that Verizon temporarily allocates more bandwidth to an individual user when the system is operating well below capacity (perhaps during off-peak hours), kinda like Comcast's Powerboost stuff that's advertised all the time. You could try testing during peak times and see what happens.
/not on verizon, wouldn't know for sure.

Speedtest Download and Upload Results

What are most of you getting in terms of your 3G and 4GLTE service. I get horrible rates such as 100kbps down and 250kbps up with 3G, and then mediocre rates like 2mbps and 1mbps with LTE. To be fair, I do have horrible service inside the dorms at my school, and my speeds are generally better outside with better reception. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not its my hardwares fault, or my softwares fault.
my best 3g test so far was .74mbps down / .23mbps up with a 131ms ping
and my best 4g test was 14.39mbps down / 2.53mbps up with a 67ms ping
3G 1.25 Mbps down / 0.56 Mbps up with a 104ms ping
4G 25.49 Mbps down / 3.95 Mbps up with a 53ms ping
just ran a test, 25mb down, 6mb up, 67ms.
I don't think many people are on it right now.

Sounds like everyone is getting some awesome results! I tried a couple more tests with 3G outside and the best I got was 200kbps down and around 150kbps. How do I figure out whether or not it's hardware in the phone, or possibly just crappy network service on my end?
in Newark, De (Uni of Delaware campus) I was getting 18-ish mbits down, and 1.5mbits up. Ill post screenshot monday.

They are in an area where they have access to band4 its roughly 80mbps. I found an article that said most large cities east of the Mississippi and some western cities already have access to it.

I get speeds like THIS ^ here in North Central Florida/Tallahassee .... I lost ALL of my screenshots due to my G2 locking up - just lost recovery after flashing a kernel & had to revert .... meaning LOST EVERY-THING on my sdcard .... but I have a lot from my GNEX with CONSISTENT speeds just like these !!! Point being, I get these speeds on my G2 but I only have proof of them from my GNEX running KK
I was in the mall the other day, stopped @ a T-Mobile kiosk to check out the S5 .... the dude asked me what I had in my hand .... then, what carrier (VZW) then he asked what speeds I get with LTE. I told him I ~average~ 50-65+MB/down while topping out at over 80MB/down at times - HE COULDN'T BELIEVE ME .... Soooo, I showed him my GNEX w/KK screenshots .... dropped his jaw

Did you drive all the way out to an LTE broadcast station just to do that?
Sent from my kickass VS980 running stock 4.2
I've gotten download speeds of up to 55mbps and upload of 22mbps when I was first testing my area for the best 4G LTE tower to point my directional YAGI antenna at ( I have no high speed internet options other than VZW 4G, so I use a Wilson 4G signal amplifier and YAGI antenna to get a high speed connection in a fringe area). Theoretical limit of current 4G LTE is 100mbps down / 50 mbps up so your numbers look pretty good. Remember though that if the cell you are in gets a lot of traffic your rate can drop off dramatically. When I test my connection now I usually run about 15/20mbps down and 8/12mbps up. Next gen LTE ups the max rates to 150 down / 75 up I believe, but I think the biggest changes coming in 5G are smarter bandwidth coordination between cell towers and more dynamic bandwidth and load management.
Don't wanna show off but.....zoom zoom!

Internet Speed 2019 - How fast are your Broadbands?

Post up your speedtests. What do you get on PC or Phone? What is your location? What do you pay? How well are you served by your ISP/Carrier?

PC:

Sky Fibre, Unlimited Data, £40 PM (Mostly reliable)
Phone:
3G - 16/3 Mbps
4G - 16/10 Mbps
Three UK, Unlimited Data, unrestricted Tethering. £19 PM (SIM Only)

Hey everyone,
we can't imagine the life without the internet. Today everything can be done with the help of internet. I am so lucky that I have a good internet service provider which gave me 20 Mbps speed.
Thanks
5 m/bit sec from my phone!
Here's what i just got at home. Must have been a fluke because UK networks just don't go this fast:
I live in Brazil. Here, the speed at 4G is quite difficult, depending on the region.
The north and northeast region of Brazil is a sign that it is a southern region is better.
PC: 32/8 Mbps.
As speedtest.net is unreliable and is often gamed by ISPs, i'd recommend fast.com as an alternative. It seems to return consistent results, at least on a fixed connection.
Unfortunately it seems almost impossible to get a reliable reading using any tester on a mobile connection. Results fluctuate wildly from one moment to the next and probably should be taken with a pinch of salt.
