weird wifi behavior - Dell Streak 7

So I was on the bus hooked up with my streak to my nexus s through tethering. Connected to the standard unsecured settings and AndroidAP ssid. Whenever the streak would sense a wifi called attwifi (the open wifi from att at starbucks etc) the streak would jump over to that network...even though the signal was less stronger...
Running performance v2 rom... Anybody see this?

ok today on the bus again the tablet just connects to random wifi access points even though my phone provides the most signal. I added security to the network, but same issue.
Turns out it is the tmobile hotspot app.
Downloaded titanium backup, backed up the app and installed it. Don't need it and the resources it hogs.

Is my nook defective? (wifi issues)

My home wifi and phone tethering works rather perfectly, but my university wifi is driving me nuts. I'm using 802.1x EAP, and it rarely connects and when it does, it says connected with no internet and keeps dropping connections. While my laptop, kindle, and my phone all get over 4 bars, the nook color fluctuates from 2 to 3.... Overall, no connection!!! Would swapping my nook color solve this problem?
My signal is not as good as other devices, but it does not drop.
After testing your settings, you could always buy another unit, test it, then return it
I've been having the same issue, Hahyun. Apparently the workaround for normal, generally unskinned Android devices is to use a program like FullWifi or an advanced wifi settings config app but for some reason, the settings never seem to stick.

I've been having problems with my WI-FI as well. I thought it had to do with low battery but I fully charged it and had the same problem. I couldnt connect to my home router and evey other device can (laptop, captivate, etc..) but my nook color connected to my mobile AP on my Captivate no prob. I changed the security on my home router to WPA from wpa2-psk aes and it worked. I was very surprised!!!! Did I fix it? No about 2 days later I'm not connecting anymore. It must have been a coincidence that I connected to my router after the change. Anyone else have a clue about why this is happening?

I was at our Budapest office last week, which also uses wpa2/psk and neither my nook or my android phone could connect to the wireless there. I couldn't even see the network.
My laptop could connect just fine though.
Definitely something fishy there.
Well my android phone definitely connects.. with full bars!! But nook color gets 2 if it does connect...

I might have the exception because my wifi reception is better than in my other devices (iphone, ipad, htc surround, 4 laptops (mac, dell, asus and hp). I can actually pick networks in my neighborhood that don't show up on my other devices and connect to a wifi network and keep that connection even though is 3 houses down the street.
Hmm.. so I should trade in my nook?

I agree. My nook shows WAYYY more wi-fi hotspots than any other device I own probably since the wireless-N.
Maybe there on to something with this "Spare Parts" app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889951
Im gonna give it a shot when I get off work in a few hours.
I had issues with my wifi signal strength. When I took it back to the store I compared mine to the store models and they would have 15-20 networks come up and I had 5 all with 1 or 2 bars. They exchanged it on the spot for me.
Ok thx fir the reply.

[Q] Streak 7 / Plex.apk / T-Mobile 4G Issue

Hey guys.. I read a LOT on here and I can't find anything in particular about the problem i'm experiencing. This is sort of a 2 part question..
I'm new to 4G and how network packets are routed, but maybe this is just a flaw in the application. Plex is an application you can install on your IOS or Android device that lets you stream media from your home. When I have my Streak 7 connected to wifi it works GREAT. If I turn wifi off and have it on 4G it wont load.. it's as if Plex doesn't even have a connection (in the application.. the rest of the device works great). If I go out to a 3G area the application works great again.
What gives? Does the development of an application need to accept different speed networks, or once the device is connected to the net (like any typical PC) the connection performance only works as good as your speed?
This really bugs me.. I was planning on using this application to stream movies while I'm out of town on business.
Thanks in advance!
- Joe
The application doesn't support hspa+ if I had to make an educated guess. Similar things happen to my evo on wimax using other applications

[Q] UMA calling via Streak 7 as a hotspot?

Has anyone been able to make phone calls with a phone that is using the Dell Streak 7 4G as a wi-fi hotspot? In other words, lets say I normally use my Streak 7 as a wi-fi tablet in the house, but when taking it out of the house I'd pop in the SIM from my T-Mobile phone in order to get data on the Streak, and set the Streak to be a wi-fi hotspot, then still use my phone to make calls (receive data, etc.) via wi-fi.

When you set the S7 to be a WiFi hotspot, you can do with it anything you could do with any other WiFi hotspot.

seriously ?... the "hotspot" is for DATA ONLY... the only way you would be able to use a phone is with skype or something like Vonage.... its not a microcell....
additionally, you may have to have a data plan that allows for the hot spot to be enabled. AT&T restricts the use of the hot spot to phones/contracts that provide for tethering....

Seriously. T-Mobile does nice things that AT&T won't let you - like make phone calls over wi-fi connections, as if they were microcells. It's called UMA. I use it every day and it's wonderful. Apparently it can work over bluetooth too:

AT&T Thetering usage notification

It's there a way to use tethering without AT&T notice the usage. I know that is related to how the data package are processed by the phone and the size. I always use the USB thering. My wife use the Wi-fi thetering and she don't receive any notification.
Help, they want to change my plan to the 4gb, because that's the only plan that the customers can use thetering.

I am sure they have pitfalls in place that will flag if a user crosses X ammt of data usage. no telling what those are but I ahve been using various tether apps for a while and never flagged. on Sprint I used Tetherberry with my blackberry. this was a USB tether. I am now using a wifi tether app (cannot post link cause of my noob status) and I like this one. allows me to do wpa/Psk or to do access control with unsecured network. will be fun to use on for my tablet in the airports. but on teh code.android site it is android-wifi-tether.
I recommend this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17697118

I just spent two weeks at my brother's house who has Comcast. Never had a problem at all using his Wi-Fi for Internet.

I also have Comcast. No WiFi issues with my Nexus 6, or any other devices.
Hey there... I am actually a field technician for Comcast maybe I can help. What exactly are you having for issues... can you see the network, is it the default password with default network name??? Let me know and I can do what I can to help you. Also what device do you have an XB2 or an XB3 wireless gateway?
That's weird. At my mother's I also have some issues with the WiFi at times where I just won't get a connection. I keep having to turn the WiFi on the nexus on and off. Luckily the lte coverage in the area is top notch
Just yesterday subscribed to Comcast/xfinity, logged my Nexus 6 into it, got full strength signal showing on the phone, and HUGE latency-to-zero performance. This is the first and only time I've ever seen little to no WiFi performance, yet WITH a very strong signal. I wonder if this has something to do with xfinity WiFi and that business where they share your bandwidth with other members who are nearby and wanting to use WiFi?
My wife's iPhone works fine with it...
-Peter
I have this same issue with my Nexus 6. I can connect to the WiFi fine, but web connections never seem to complete. The progress bar in chrome gets to about 10% and just sticks there. Apps attempting to download data just time out.
I am running the latest stable released build of Marshmallow.
I do not have this issue on my n6 with xfinity internet. I do not use their leased modem/router so do not share the Internet but doubt that is the issue.
However, the WiFi is not always 100% stable (notice in clash of clans when a short disconnect is a big deal). I rarely get sporadic disconnects in that game but streaming video, etc. never causes an issue. I am using the latest Pure Nexus build lately and seems to have helped (maybe placebo).
Edit: I use that n6 like an iPod touch now (WiFi only) so I'd definitely notice but it works great.
