Dell Streak 7 Source Code!!!!! - Dell Streak 7

http://opensource.dell.com/releases/streak7/

Day late and a dollar short. Already posted like last week. Plus its not the source. It provides the kernel, bluetooth driver and modem. And it gives instructions on how to build a source from generic a generic froyo source. Only replacing a couple things to make it compatible with this device.

Technically it is the source. When the Android community talked about dell and how they released the SC for the streak 5, they all directed you to that site. I looked at the streak 5 directory and it's pretty much identical to the DS7 directory. There is not a tree there for DS5 users to download, it basically tells them the same thing it says in the DS7 folder. Has the drivers and instructions on how to build from the generic source. Meaning they kernel, and drivers are there and instructions on how to build using the generic source. If the whole Android community classified this as dell releasing the source code for the S5 then technically dell has released the SC for the DS7. This is all we will get from dell..

[Q] Anyone working on the official 2.2 since the source code is out?

Just wondering if anyone is working on some rom's for the official 2.2 update, the rom's we have now are amazing just figured they would be a little more refined with the official source code released??
There already are a few if you look in the development section. I know adam of team phoenix has one in beta right now called fusion, and I saw a couple others.

BIG difference between an "update" and having "source"
there is no source yet...

all the ones i saw in the dev section were based off of the Rodgers build, which is similar but not based off of the actual captivate 2.2

The new Cog 4.1, and a few others are based off the ATT 2.2.

I don't think it is guaranteed that they will ever release source...
Although they probably will eventually (hope)

they have to release the source eventually. cant remember exactly but according to licensing, they have X amount of days after official release to release the source.

Is that a Google requirement?
I believe Cognition 4.1 is based off of official froyo 2.2
I am gonna close this up now as Source has not been released and there are Roms based on the 2.2 ATT update and they are marked plainly

CyanogenMod development?

Is anyone actively working on cyanogenmod for the streak 7? I haven't gotten mine yet. But we have the kernel source (for froyo at least) and we can flash new system and boot with fastboot and/or nvflash. So there shouldn't be anything stopping us right? I've grown familiar with building cm7 for my nexus and gtab and i am eager to see it working on the streak7.

From what DJ_Steve said in another thread, I believe he is in contact with the Cyanogenmod team. Drop Steve a line and see if you can help.
To answer my own question. Work has already begun. When i refreshed my cyanogen tree i noticed a new project 'device/dell/streak7'.
EDIT: although almost nothing has been done. but now i have a starting point.
I would SOOOOO be down for flashing some CyMod on my Streak7.
Yeah, I can't wait to see a Cyanogenmod Gingerbread ROM for the Streak 7. I've had incredible success with the CM Gingerbread ROM for my Droid Eris: excellent battery life, stability, and cool features!

Android 3.2 Source Code Released

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but it looks like the 3.2 source code has been released:
http://groups.google.com/group/andr...1c225a11f5/6410b44798c19d61?#6410b44798c19d61
and
http://m.androidcentral.com/android-32-gpl-code-pushed-aosp
this is just the parts used for the 3.2 update that are using the GPL license, that requires
the source code to be available when the software is shipped.
Oh, gotcha. Oh well.. I had hoped it might be something useful
pretty sure google has said multiple times that honeycomb source will not be released. Going to have to wait till ICS for a truly customizable tablet platform
Yes, sadly we will not have 3.2 until samsung releases it or someone hacks a xoom rom to run on the gt10.1.
Huh?! Did you mean 3.2?

[Q] Streak 7 kernel developing

As I am new to this section I wanted to ask one thing.
Does any one develop a custom kernel for 7?
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
No. Dell never release any updates for Honeycomb so there so base Kernal to work with. Give it a few weeks someone will.
Btw the main Dev for DS7 has moved over to another forums. http://tabletroms.com

He didn't mention Honeycomb, so to answer his question, yes, some people did some Kernel work with Froyo. There was some stuff published here, and one unpublished kernel which added CIFS, UTF8, and TUN.
I assume that Dell will release the source to the kernel they're distributing in Honeycomb, so hopefully soon we'll see enhancements similar. I know personally I need TUN.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for Droid 3?

Is android 4.0 coming to the droid 3 or is anyone making a rom of it?

All we have to do is make it work on our phone.
Plz sir all I want is the camera app.
after just watching the ICS unveil with Galaxy Nexus.... I want it all!!
I'm not too sure how useful a system dump from an ICS AVD will be, but I'll post it here in a few minutes.
EDIT: I'm getting parsing errors. I've never extracted apps from an AVD, so I'm not sure if this is normal. You would think it would at least get to the install screen. Oh well, here's the dump: http://www.mediafire.com/?oogc8yhwj415xyn
It will come in the form of Cyanogenmod.

I'm downloading everything from Google atm. But it'll take me about another hour or two (thank you Baylor ****ernet!) before I can comb through everything.

In time. In time. First they need to release the AOSP version of ICS.

Doesn't help make a good ROM as any rom based off an emulator image is going to have issues.
What they released is an emulator image to help you when developing apps. It's an SDK (Software Development Kit) and not very useful to ROM building.

whats AOSP in lamens terms?..
i think they will. Droid 3 was sold out for weeks (atleast in florida). so its a popular device. They wont leave us out, i think we will get all the features except the NFC as it isnt supported on our phones
I want the keyboard

AOSP translates to Android Open Source Project, however I am not sure what the difference is between sdk and aosp as far as development is concerned

Sounds like the newly launched Droid Razr will get ICS in early 2012:
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/10/motorola-droid-razr-to-receive-ics-update-in-2012/
I imagine this means the Bionic will get it as well since its similar spec'd to the Razr (both have 1GB RAM), and unless RAM is an issue we should get it on the Droid 3.
Or else we will have to wait for a 3rd party ROM to do the job once the ICS source is released, if its possible with the locked bootloader. The OG Droid runs Gingerbread on only 256MB of RAM, ICS will probably run on 512MB of RAM without all the bloat of an OEM rom.

Hey brobeans. Just sayin, every Moto phone with 1GB of RAM has 512MB exclusively for webtop. That means Android never touches it unless it's in webtop mode. So those phones are actually identical to our D3.

Easy. SDK's are for software development (apps). It is support for coding apps on Android. Each version of the OS gets an SDK as new API's are added or updated, etc... It's only useful for writing apps for the version OS the SDK matches.
Software Development Kit - build apps
AOSP is the source code to the Android OS (ROM). It is what is used for those that compile ROMs from source (most devs seem to either modify the stock ROM off the phone or copy CyanogenMod's source tree and not Google's). Android Open Source Project is where the ROM source code is and you can use this to build ROMs (though you need a lot more than just AOSP).
Android Open Source Project - build roms.
