(Idea) Stock Nook from SD?

I was wondering if anyone has been working on a stock nook software port for a sd card. That would allow us to have both HC and stock nook running together if we wanted it for the stock app. Another thing i was wondering about is if the dual boot emmc hack allows stock boot and hc or froyo to boot as well from one drive

Coming from Rooted 1.1

Hello, just picked up my NC. Messed around a little bit, got it to root fine, running Froyo off my SD. Want to get CM7, was thinking of going the phiremod route.
I'm a little bit confused with the CW version and ext4 compatibility. I'm just a little worried cuz I ended up in a CW boot loop when i tried flashing Froyo to internal mem. But I think its cuz i had flashed the old recovery? Anyway, got back to stock and upgraded/re-rooted.
So can i just go from Rooted 1.1 to burning a bootable clockwork 3.0.1 on to my SD card? Then flash a ROM and Gapps?
The bootable SD card thread says something about the partition needing to be ext4, which is what's freaking me out. Is there a kernel to flash before? am i skipping an entire step here?

Thats what I did and it worked perfectly. Phiremod has gapps and market built in.

I found this post a very useful and detailed description of installing CM7 on internal
memory:

It includes the steps for formatting required for CM7.
Don't forget that you will need a uSD for 'data' after as well as the one for installing.

1.4 SD Boot image

I have had CM7 on my nook color for some time. Its installed to the eMMC and I remember using CWMR to do so (After my initial rooting and such oh so long ago). I have flashed several ROMS, but pretty much have stayed with the latest stable version of CM7.
I am curious, is there a Stock Nook Color 1.4 ROM that I can set up to boot from an SD card? I know this is reverse from the norm, but I would rather not mess with my setup now.

I installed manualnooter-4-5-18 with no problem. But when I install manualnooter-4-6-16 device gets stuck on colorful Nook Color logo show.
My version is 1.3.
I also need some advice:
1. Isn't it better to use cm-7.2.0-encore instead of original OS? I can't decide.
2. Shouldn't I update to more recent versions of nook software (higher than 1.3) then mod it?

It depends on what you want.
If you are invested in the nook store with lots of purchased apps or want to read interactive kids books, stay with stock. If you stay with stock, upgrade to 1.4.3 (you can get a CWM flashable version by looking in my tips thread linked in my signature) and root with Manual Nooter. I think it is up to 5.08.20.
If you are not invested in stock, definitely go to CM7.2. It is smooth and very stable.

So I decided to go with CM7.2 but

says it only works with 1.2. I got the link to wiki from here.
And one technical question, does CM7.2 remove original Nook Color OS completely? If so why its version matters?

Yes, if you install CMx on EMMC it will replace B&N ROM on the device.
That is an old instruction... The reason that method only works with 1.2 is because they have you rooting it and installing CWM on EMMC. By making a bootable SD and installing CMx from there, there is no reason to root the B&N ROM before installation... so you can install it regardless of ROM on you NookColor.

So I just copy the CM into the flash (that I had made it bootable with CWM) and install CM from there. I create a backup using CWM.

Just bought a sealed hd+ 32gb and been reading all the threads for a few weeks. I dont want to use the stock nook system but want to run from a 32gb sd card. shall i still run through the stock nook setup where it updates , logsin to b&n account etc??? i though it may help to not allow this as it will update the software to version 2.0.6 automatically , which i understand makes some mods more difficult. I dont want to allow the auto updating of stock b&n software in the future ?
Also can you recommend the easiest instructions to follow to install the most stable CM10 version on an 32gb sandisc 4 sd card?

You probably should go ahead and boot to stock and let it update and register. If you do not want to register, look at my HD/HD+ Tips thread linked in my signature for skipping the OOBE. Then any time it tries to boot to stock, it can complete. Updating to 2.0.6 will have no effect on running things from SD.
As far as installing CM10 on SD, you have two choices, install the Original SD or my Hybrid SD. I have easy install guides for both also linked in my signature.

No, unless they change the hardware it will always boot.
