1.4 SD Boot image - Nook Color General

I have had CM7 on my nook color for some time. Its installed to the eMMC and I remember using CWMR to do so (After my initial rooting and such oh so long ago). I have flashed several ROMS, but pretty much have stayed with the latest stable version of CM7.
I am curious, is there a Stock Nook Color 1.4 ROM that I can set up to boot from an SD card? I know this is reverse from the norm, but I would rather not mess with my setup now.
*Edit*
Found what I needed. Just needed to look a little further....

reboots and wont stuck on android screen

Ok I have searched and read just about every thread regarding this issue and still no luck,,,, I am not a rookie when it comes to android.. Had a G1 weeks after it came out.. Then the mytouch slide.. and now also the G2...
But this whole nook thing is getting to me.. It will work just fine for awhile then suddenly reboot and when it reboots it wont load past android screen... (android on bottom left side of screen) (((NF 6.8))) have tried cwr via sd and installed directly.
My question and i am assuming that for some reason the boot partition keeps getting corrupted.. If im correct what coul be causing this? And if I am booting cwr from sd why would that get corrupted if i dont use it but once or twice..
And two it seems that people are having more luck with Honeycomb installed then with anything else.. Any truth into that?
Just to clarify things, are you using Nookie Froyo via uSD or eMMC?
It's weird that your boot partition is getting corrupted. If you were on NF (Nookie Froyo) 0.6.7, I would suspect you were experiencing the uSD format bug that does corrupt boot. But that was fixed in 0.6.8. And CWR isn't going corrupt boot unless you format boot within CWR, or flash a zip that modifies boot and you have a bad or wrong zip file.
As far as alternative ROMs to stock, I personally feel HC (Honeycomb) is the way to go. NF is a great project and I give kudos to the efforts of all involved. But the NF experience on the NC was lacking for me. I felt that I had to do a lot of modifications/fixes to get the NC to a point I could be as productive as I am with the 1.1 rooted ROM. In the end NF wasn't worth tinkering for me since I realized the only significant payoff for my efforts was gaining Flash capability. And I don't really need Flash for what I use my NC for.
I have since switched to playing with HC and it feels like a much better base to start with. After all HC was designed for tablet use, which is basically what the NC has become. I'm very impressed with the preview version of HC and I'm considering loading it into eMMC if I can get just a few more things figured out.

[Q] Noob question

I am a noob to rooting a nook color and was wondering which image would be recommended at this time? It is my wife's nook color and she is got 1.1.0 update on it and we are running windows xp on the desktop right now so any input would be greatly appreciated. Oh and she has a 32gb microsdcard in the nook that is blank.
If by image, you mean Andrioid version, I'd stick with rooted stock Eclair, if I were you. It's all well and good to expermient, but it can be rather time-consuming.
Personally, I'd say to use AutoNooter and follow the instructions on NookDevs. Make sure to use the right version (1.1.0 in your case) and good luck!
Thanks for the input
FYI, it was completely non-obvious to me until I asked here, but apparently you can root (or not root) the stock OS and alternately boot off an SD card at your whim.
Is it recommended to update to 1.1 before rooting? or It doesn't matter? Any advantages?
I am really liking the Monster Root Pack from thecubed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922870
Rooted one of the NCs I have from 1.1.0 and have found it extremely stable and all facets working beautifully! Have some minor issues with Dolphin ND but prefer Opera anyway. Burnt the image to a 2GB Class 2 mSDHC only installing the root and GApps. Installed CWM later. thecubed did some sweet work on this. Almost foolproof IMO.
Give it a whirl.
I'll tell you I read through these forums for 4 days before I finally rooted my nook. Used Auto nooter and then realized that I bought this thing for full use as an Android tab and the next day I looked into CyanogenMod 7. After 2 days of trying to do the dual boot (sd card boot), I gave up and finally just flashed CM7 to the internal
Yesterday a friend of mine brought his nook to me. Saw how much I could do that he could not, and had me root and flash CM7. It is so easy if you follow the instructions on the CM nook wiki page! Including time to format the SD card (which takes the longest) and install, it was less than a half hour before he was up and running as a full tablet. THe instructions, although they seem brief, are great there. Follow it to a key and remember to ask questions if needed.

Coming from Rooted 1.1

Hello, just picked up my NC. Messed around a little bit, got it to root fine, running Froyo off my SD. Want to get CM7, was thinking of going the phiremod route.
I'm a little bit confused with the CW version and ext4 compatibility. I'm just a little worried cuz I ended up in a CW boot loop when i tried flashing Froyo to internal mem. But I think its cuz i had flashed the old recovery? Anyway, got back to stock and upgraded/re-rooted.
So can i just go from Rooted 1.1 to burning a bootable clockwork 3.0.1 on to my SD card? Then flash a ROM and Gapps?
The bootable SD card thread says something about the partition needing to be ext4, which is what's freaking me out. Is there a kernel to flash before? am i skipping an entire step here?
Thanks for any feedback

Thats what I did and it worked perfectly. Phiremod has gapps and market built in.

Hi,
I found this post a very useful and detailed description of installing CM7 on internal
memory:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11535969&postcount=151
It includes the steps for formatting required for CM7.
Don't forget that you will need a uSD for 'data' after as well as the one for installing.
Hope this helps!

Nook Color 1.2 & ROM Manager rom installation of CM7

I may have made a huge mistake.
I just purchased a Nook Color version 1.2, and successfully rooted it using ManualNooter 4.5.2. Everything was working pretty much, and I didn't think to check, but went into ROM Mananger, downloaded CM Mod 7.0.2 I believe, and installed it.
It rebooted, installed, and now is stuck at the boot screen (where the word color is rainbow flashing).
No backup (yeah I know...)
Where should I go from here?
Is there a way to flash the Stock 1.2 via CMW? I can get to that screen, but I need a way to install a .zip that will work...
For now I am going to flash to 1.0.1. I can just upgrade over wifi to 1.2 and then re-root, correct?
Figured it out. Flashed to 1.0.1, and then upgraded to 1.2. Now to re-root again haha. What a process!
If you just want to play with CM7, you don't need to root. You can install to SD without touching the 1.2 installation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
If you want a little simpler, step-by-step version of those instructions, google "anamardoll nook cm7."
The bootable SD you make can also flash CMW to your NC without rooting or otherwise disturbing the 1.2 install. Just make sure you get a suitable SD if you're planning to run CM7 off of it--this thread breaks down what to look for:

Questions about rooting

I have been lurking and reading for a couple of weeks now. I bought a used NC with 1.1 and used Autonooter to root it. Works great.
I bought a second NC which had the 1.2 s/w on it. I used the manualnooter process to root it. That works pretty well.
Now I'm thinking about getting into the nightly CM7 game. I'm wondering is there anything I need to watch out for with the 2 NC's I have if I do this. Do I have to take them back to stock? Can I just follow the CM7 instructions?
Any insight and guidance would be appreciated
50 views and no replies. If you read this and can help I would really appreciate some info. I'm reluctant to proceed until I hear from someone who has traveled the road before. Thanks
You can run CM7, stable or nightly, off of an SD card. You don't have to change anything on your Nooks to do this. In fact, they don't even need to be rooted. Running CM7 on the SD card will not change anything on the built-in memory of the Nook.
Look for the "size agnostic" thread, follow the directions, and you're good to go.
ps. I enjoy your music.
yeah, just follow the instructions on flashing cm7 for the first time. and make sure you understand the CWM instructions. you may want to try a stable rom for now. there are lots of battery and kernel issues right now with the nightly builds. but not to fear the devs are working hard to fix them. just stay with the stable's and your be fine. I hope this was helpful...

is this the one you mean?

Well, I went ahead figuring "How hard could it be anyway?".
I did the nand backup with CWM 3.0.2.8
I then ran ROM manager V4.2.0.2 from internal memory.
I choose the option that allows me to download ROMS.
I chose CyanogenMod, and then chose 7.0.3.
I downloaded the ROM
I then chose Install ROM from SD card
It asked me about clearing caches, etc and I chose the default values already checked.
It installed without errors.
I rebooted and it got to the last part of the boot process where the word "color" is rapidly changing and stayed there indefinitely,
I rebooted with CWM on the SD card and tried to reinstall the Manualnooter I loaded on this NC a week ago.
Rebooted. Still hung up.
I copied my nand backup to the CWN SD card and chose restore.
It booted back to my manualnooter install successfully.
So I'm successfully back where I started.
Can someone help me understand what I did wrong on what I need to do to make it work? Thanks
Not sure what went wrong, but I would also suggest trying verygreen's size-agnostic approach. You keep your manual nooter and can run CM7 from an SD card to see if you want to go all the way and remove the stock BN software.
Try this thread:

Or, if you want to go crazy, you could try racks' dual boot SD card image of Phiremod 6.2 (a variation of CM7) and Honeycomb. That's what I'm using and Phiremod works great (aside from battery life ) and honeycomb is just plain slick to use.

I loaded CM7 7.0.2 stable and was able to get it going. Thanks
