Hey Guys
Running Vegantab-B5.1 and tried using the xda app from marketplace to browse the xda forum but i find shortly after i log in that it crashes on me. Does anyone else have teh same issue?
BAM
App does not work on tablet!
Two alternatives, DolphinHD browser gives a nice experiance, and tapatalk works well if you really want an app.
I have the same problem. Thanks for the tip about Tapatalk - I will check it out.
I also have the same problem on my Droid. I find dolphin HD the best experience. Not crazy about tapatalk.
Yeah I think we're all in the same boat regarding the XDA app, I agree with both suggestions above, Dolphin HD and Tapatalk Pro are great alternatives. Tapatalk is fast and minimalist in it's appearance (but plenty of features), where as Dolphin HD gives you a near desktop experience, just depends on what you prefer.

I miss the XDA app. I got so used to using it on my HTC Magic. Hoping for a fix at some point.
Edit: the premium xda app doesn't crash as often. Still can't log in but it is a very minimalist and add free way of viewing xda. Been using it lately to read very long threads and older threads I just want to digest and not respond to.
Same here force close when trying to login - vegan 7 exp
Yep, force closed on Tnt 4.04 and Vegan 5.1.1.
Force closes on Stock ROM as well
XDA app is based on Tapatalk. I got annoyed with the FCs and went with Tapatalk. The experience and UI is mostly the same, just a few more taps to get to what you want once you've set up your favorites.

Same here. VEGAn 5.1.1, FC on login. I was rather disappointed.
Its a known bug and I'm not sure there are plans to fix it. You know though, we do have full internet on these bad boys. I prefer that over the app. The app is perfect for my phone with it's small screen. With 10 inches the real thing is better.
enjoy

changelog:
Adds +1 For Apps And Games, Pin Number For Purchases, And More…
there’s a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately). There’s also a brand-new Market icon to spruce things up.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use a custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have – and really, it makes a lot of sense.
Root access is not required, but you’ll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.
will the market be updated to this anyways? does it show all apps or not?
Eh I don't know don't feel so sure about This.

After screwing around with the new apk for 15 mins, it seems the missing apps problem may be fixed. I am currently holding my breath though...
Edit - immediately after making this post the problem returned. I can stop holding my breath now.
just installed. Seems ok.
How do I install? -1.bin , right?

lol you guys think i would really post a virus or something. i found it. if you dont believe its true google android market 3.1.3. and yes the missing apps thing is there still. i use titanium backup. market doctor feature to fix that tho
For some reason this market is showing all apps for me that I've installed from Amazon store as if they need updating. When I yet updating them, it fails but still shows as if needing to be updated. That's annoying.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
yea no kidding. if you have titanium backup you can detach those apps from the market so they wont show updating. those are apps from the amazon app store i think, love the +1 feature

What is a +1 feature? Can't figure it out..
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Moved to apps..........
+1 is a new google plus feature. if you go into the market and look at an app it will have the option to +1 it which is equivalent to liking a status on facebook. you can +1 websites and links. and all the links you've +1's can be viewed on your google plus
Market updates
Any ideas as to why the android market is not retrievable from the android market...other than the recursive need for the market in the first place
Loving the pin security, thanks for this.
I have no idea how to install this

Chrome is way slower and the drawing lags badly on scrolling compared to the aosp browser. There's one to. On here that uses the aosp browser. Its so much smoother and faster. Unfortunately autorotation does not work on that ROM. Why did Google make chrome the default?

Try a rom with the stock browser. It benchmarks higher and it never has to load more of the page when scrolling.
Its the same way on the galaxy nexus. They just let you choose in that case which to use.

Don't have experience yet with my nexus 7 but chrome is horrible on the galaxy nexus. It is awful at text reflow on this phone. Hopefully it will be better on the tablet.

Unfortunately its the same garbage on this tablet. It was really stupid of Google to make chrome the default and not include the aosp browser. I tried the aosp browser and its butter smooth with zero lag. Chrome on the other hand is a complete lagfest.

On my phone I use opera mobile. Better than stock in my opinion. I just like the chrome sync.

Whenever they let us download the old browser from Play somebody let me know. I don't mind Chrome as a backup but I don't like it as my primary either
**Edit. If you have root give this a shot.

Google said we could download it from Play already they just havent put it up somebody else can look up a source for you cause I dont feel like it right now
Yes...Chrome definitely blows for Android. Sad really. Chrome to phone and all the syncing options are really nice, but the browser itself is just awful. Hoping Google really gives this some love soon b/c as others have said, the stock regular browser that has been on Android forever is so much nicer.
Just by watching videos, I can already tell that I hate the Chrome browser. It can have a horrendous amount of lag, and it is extremely annoying having to watch reviews that show this sub-par browsing experience when I know for a fact that all of this dreadful performance could be alleviated by switching to the AOSP browser. Google quite obviously did this to promote their browser, but it does not do good for the Nexus 7 image.
Hmm have you guys fully updated your n7's? Chrome is blazing fast for me. Haven't had a single issue with it except for Swype entering spaces after every letter in the address bar sometimes.
on my GNex, ICS Browser+ (basically stock ICS browser with some additions) was smoother than Chrome.
it crashes now on JB though.

Negative, been trying this all day. I don't mind chrome. The syncing with the desktop, phone, and tablet is ****ing awesome. Everything else is just ehh. I don't care much for opera or dolphin so I have been searching for all day for a browser apk or browsergoogle apk that will work but to no avail

Yeah there's one rom with it but they forgot to include the blobs for the rotation sensor so it doesn't work. The aosp browser works great though.

That's because it needs the stock browser to work I think. At least that is how it works on my HTC One X. If I freeze the stock HTC browser, ICS + force closes.

Chrome is terribly choppy on the 7. Go to memebase.com and it has massive rendering issues. As long as the website isn't heavy loaded with pictures, chrome is fine.
I need my stock AOSP browser back, Dolphin isn't cutting it

An elderly relative of mine shall be getting herself a Nexus 7 tomorrow, which she plans to use mainly for e-Reading plus a bit of media usage in the form of BBC iPlayer. I was looking for an easy-to-use interface for her. Any launcher recommendations or simple customisations to make it just a little bit easier? I am sure she could use it as is, but making it easier so I don't have to teach her so much will be good.
How elderly? Talk back might be nifty. I tried it once, it was annoying as hell though

Instructions are poor. You get a quick startup guide on paper and then have to open the book section to read the user manual. I find it harder to learn about a system when I an constantly flipping from the manual to a page to try out what I was reading.

I was more just on about launchers which would allow her to have a nice, clean UI that isn't too cluttered.
Anyone know of such a launcher?

No problem. The only launcher that might suit your needs would be a heavily customized apex launcher.

Thanks. I can install Apex on my Galaxy Note, so I'll fiddle around and see what I can do on it.
Just empty the desktop from every single icon . Than..
1.on home screen Add icons that this person will use the most e.g BBC iPlayer (not sure bits going to work without flash), chrome, play store and a nice looking clock widget or something
2. Set each other screen with categories e.g one for books where you place the appropriate widgets and icons . One for videos and one for whatever else like notes calendar and other productivity ....
3. Do that person a favour and download some games .. yes games . You'd be surprised how often older people like to play ... ideal games would be mahjong, card games , also things like Bejeweled ,Zuma, scrabble type games
Stock android launcher is good enough trust me you just have to know how to organise it. Also wait for chameleon that might change things

My wife just told me that her Nook HD+ is uninstalling apps on it's own. Have any of you heard of this happening before on Nook HD+? It stays on her Android phone but is removed from the tablet.
I haven't seen this happen but just asking because the wife is pissed at me for this happening on something I modded for her. LOL

So you are not really having to re-install the apps, just put the icons back on the home screen?
Why don't you try a third party launcher and see if the disappearing icons quit disappearing.

Various apps. Wife hasn't been able to remember the names but the types were flashcards app (like the 3x5 cards we used in school), scientific calculator, biology and a game.

I was just wondering if they were apps she got at the Amazon app store. Sometimes those get flacky if they can't verify that the app store is installed and running.

You could try scanning the ALL tab under My Apps on the Play Store - that shows all the apps you've ever installed on any device registered against your Google account. That might jog her memory. If they're not listed there then maybe, as leapinlar suggested, they came from the Amazon app store and have fallen prey to the flakiness he's observed.
(Backup tools like Titanium Backup can be set to do regular app backups which could provide a useful recovery point in cases like this. Not so useful if the user can't remember what the apps were called, though...)

Maybe she downloaded apps from play store, then removed hers Google account, so all apps associated got Uninstalled.
If its using cm11 there was a bug where app icons would disappear from the launcher after app updates.
Apps uninstalling themselves though... Besides user error or bad judgement I can think of many possible scenarios where apps could be removed/disappear.
I wonder too if google's new app checker service improvement could remove them if it didn't like them. Perhaps even being triggered during an automatic update.
[Ah yes, there is what I was looking for: "Google Play scans apps that are uploaded for malware. If an app is later discovered to be malicious, Google can automatically remove it from the devices it’s been installed on." -> http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/cracked-android-apps-and-games-read-this-before-downloading/
And that is only one way it can happen.]
