"upcoming" themes a no no

ATTENTION! There is an increasing trend of people posting "upcoming" themes. Please do not post upcoming themes or themes that are not done. It is polluting the thread. Only post themes that are COMPLETE.

i agree and disagree with you and i will list my reasons for each
i agree because it gets peoples hopes up, it gives a larger then life feel to a theme, it leads to "flame wars" between people.
also though, from the themers perspective, it gives an insight at whether or not they should pursue their idea to fruition, or just drop for something else, it does promote the community helping to design it, what people like and dislike, what they would like to see before the themer makes the images and realizes that something else would have been better.
really in the end, it can go either way, but when deciding to make an "upcoming theme" thread, i think the themer should be willing to at least give out a beta version as a temporary hold off or have the theme fairly close to being in the release stages.
like personally, i jump around on projects very often, so if i made a concept thread, i could not touch the theme itself for a week, so i would hold off on a thread until i was ready to release it, but i know people like AGx-07_162 (i mention you a. i really like your work and b. you are a recent example) are usually good about releasing their work soon after the thread is made.
just my thoughts on the subject. i tried to give an unbiased view of both sides of it.

I agree....

As long as the title of the thread states [upcoming theme], what difference does it make? A couple of sneak peek pics of a soon to be released theme, or even a concept that fell out of someones head isn't a bad idea. It gives the user something to look forward to. AND, if the original themer doesn't get around to finishing something, perhaps someone else could pick up where they left off and get the theme running.
No one is forcing you to read the thread. If it says [upcoming theme] in the title, skip it. While your forum name may be cost to be the boss, you aren't. When you start paying the bills to keep this forum open and paying for the bandwidth to support the number of users it carries, then, and only then, can you think you can make rules. Not a week after joining and making 39 posts.

I'll agree with you to a point. I hate the "upcoming theme" idea for the same reason I hate when producers release movie commercials 3-6 months in advance. Its not done for feedback, its done for publicity. This is not general as I cannot speak for the themers, its just the way I see it.
However the above poster makes very good points. It can be good for feedback if that's what the themer is after and not just to stir a buzz.

I guess it can be good for feedback to see what people like. So that is one plus

Precisely. Taste is an individual thing. I am glad that there are previews. Once I see what is cooking I have a choice of not visiting this page again or follow it till it is done. Plus, you need creativity on this forum and creativity needs a constant window.
Besides, I can make a no-no thread about ppl making half page signature. takes a while to scroll, not everyone enjoys your in-ur-face sense of humor and it makes threads twice in page count. But I won't.

I think the best way to avoid all these issues is... Any Dev. that is working on an upcoming theme and would like to share it with the community should take these steps, first contact a Mod before posting anything and let that Mod know that you have an upcoming theme and you would like to post screen-shots with a description of your theme and most importantly if the Mod could be so gracious and lock the thread (temporarily until theme is ready to install) immediately after you post, that way the thread doesn't get cluttered with nonsense, everyone has a glimpse as to what is coming soon and finally if anyone has any feedback or suggestions then we can PM the Dev. here or anywhere the Dev. pleases.
P.S. Obviously if your theme is ready to install and doesn't need a preview then there is no need for these steps...post away.

Large stupid signatures should be a "no-no" too

as long as the thread say upcoming and has preview, thats good.. otherwise Mods will do something about it.

I don't really agree that preview threads should be outlawed. It get's people excited about themes, that's a good thing.
And I don't mean to jump on the bandwagon, but it is kind of an unwritten rule to not have a gargantuan sig pic on a forum, unless you are a noob of course. Usually a 200x120px banner is more than sufficient.

So wait a minute.. caused i just searched 11 pages to find how many times 'upcoming theme' came up. Twice? Twice??

You made a whole deal over this 'upcoming' theme stuff?
You kids (and i do mean, KIDS) on XDA must learn some manners,
etiquette and get a good swift boot to the ass.

After being asked to share...I figured I should ask "what people wanted?"

thanks for this, i often search for new widgets but it would take years to find exactly what im looking for in the screenshot thread. i can see this helping many new and old users alike. especially ones like me who dont really participate in the forums and just kinda skim through every so often
one suggestion i have is that you categorize the widgets that you/others post in the first post.

BTW the first screenshot, I think you might want to remove it. It's a WidgetLocker Mod. I won't be able to share it because it's not a free app.

how do you get the fonts in the first few pics? from what i've seen, the fonts don't look like that with the stock program.

You might want to switch out the gtasks code. It doesn't take you to the app, it takes you to a key that unlocks the app, but not the app itself

I feel absolutely disgusted towards you right now. The fact that I had to accidentally view that filth on that 4wall link because I trusted this forum enough, and maybe you as a poster enough that I didn't think to skim over a wallpaper link to expect a "little warning" next to it telling me I may be horrified at what I may see on the other side of it.
If I am the only person on here who feels I should spit in your face for the level of respect you have for some one else on here, than I will. Simply just because you may be okay with viewing that, doesn't mean any one else is. And just because there's a little warning in parentheses right next to it doesn't make it okay either! There are people on here underage. There are also people on here who aren't underage and just don't want to tarnish their mind with that insignificant crap thats in there.
Makes me sick. I never have seen any one bring that kind of garbage onto this forum before this. I never will look here the same. Thanks.

I would advise you to next that next time you follow a direction that you should learn how to READ, the warning was clearly posted and it is up to individual discretion if they deem themselves mature or not. There's a wallpaper thread here with scantly dressed women why don't you go spit in their face too? On the second thought, keep you nasty slime to yourself, rather not spread your idiocy to other members.

I suggest remove the wallpaper link also, your (OP) link is direct to porn wallpaper and it is not a original home link but rather a search you did and contains not only nudity but sex scenes image.
I try search, it contains too many pornography, even just a simple word "blue" "red". I am finding blue or red wallpaper but it link to non related wallpaper.
I believe this is a bit over also (even with noted "may contain pornography" and it is not may, it is contain a lot), XDA is not a porn site.
Some more it is not related to your thread title "Commonly Used Widgets".

To be rather honest, I don't care what you guys think. I knew I would hear you guys say that because I opened my mouth. I am not idiotic, I just stand up for what I believe is right. Even if it means getting called out by some random internet strangers. You may think that I sound like an idiot, but I find it disgusting that we find pornography acceptable as a society. So you can find it as my fault for not seeing your "warning." Thats fine. I never said it wasn't my fault for accidentally clicking. When you buy a pack of cigarettes there is a warning label "smoking kills"
When it does happen that a person dies because to much smoking. You don't blame the company but the person itself.
When there is a sign warning don't put hand in the machine, you don't put it right.

Hey Guys!
I've been on XDA for about 6 years now and you guys have always helped me out alot with ideas on how to tweak my ever changing smartphones (I think 6 in 4 years?). I've always wanted to contribute but couldn't figure out how until now.
I've been a professional artist/illustrator for over 15 years. Working on projects ranging from kids cartoons to movie projects (Check out Disc2 of the Finding Nemo DVD. Special feature: Mr Ray's Encylcopedia? I created the thing Photoshop. Then the 3d guys animated it in Lightwave!). And for the next 2 or 3 months I should have some free time. Which gave me an idea:
Free custom wallpaper for cellphones, desktops, laptops. Free illustrations you guys can use anywhere (except commercial use).
You guys can tell me what you guys would like me to illustrate. Anything. Seriously. Girls, comic book characters, animals, architecture, you can even send me pictures of your loved ones if you want (but i prefer stuff that would appeal to as many people as possible) and I will pick several at a time and draw them whenever I can. I specialize in comic book characters and girls by the way.
Now here's where I think it's cool. After I draw it, I'll upload it to my blog and this site and you guys can download it and use it however you want for free (as long as it's not for commercial use). I'll even resize and crop the final art for you if you guys give me the dimensions you would like the art to fit into (ex/ phone vs desktop sizes). And another bonus: If you reeeeally likes the artwork, you guys can buy the original. I think that I'll only ask a minimum of a $20 donation (should cover supplies and lunch), but basically it will be for whatever piece you want. If you're very happy and would like to donate more, then please feel free and it will be very appreciated (trying to make this a good Christmas for my family). It will be a "set your own price" kind of thing.
This is going to be an ever evolving experiment. So we'll see if we need to change the concept as we go. But my core goals are to contribute something (free) to you guys and give an opportunity to sell some cool artwork too. So everyone wins. So please tell me what you'd like to see me draw in this forum or on my blog and let's try this out!

When posting your requests please include the following information:
1.) Your request. Feel more than free to also include additional info (why you would like this particular piece, what mood you'd like it to be done in, whatever you'd like to add)
2.) Type of device the artwork will be used on.
If Laptop or Desktop, please include screen size (15.6", 17", etc)).
If Cellphone, please include model name (example: HTC Evo, Samsung Captivate, etc). Same for tablets (example: Samsung Galaxy Tab, iPad, etc).
This should help people identify if the wallpaper is good for their phone/tablet more quickly (since most people wouldn't be able to identify the proper wallpaper by just the dimensions)
3.) Size of the wallpaper you're going to need it to be. Width X Height.
(example: 1280x800, 600x800, etc)

Do you do graffiti? Like the lettering in general?
If so could you do one with like an android figure and.under that the word android on there in graffiti letters. Any style.

I'm always looking for interesting dark wallpapers for my android... I like odd subject matter..
. Like impossible situations or colors, serene dusk or daybreak views with something interesting ...like leaf too bright or tree with snow while ground has none or plant emerging from rock, dark metallic fractals, etc. Just like the abnormal, but like the dark colors for phone... Any colors for desktop

Hey Guys,
I'm eating at Macaroni Grill Restaurant right now and they have a crayon and the paper table cloth. Which can only mean one thing: Instant request time!
Please comment on my blog under the latest post what you'd like to see me do a quick sketch of and I'll do it right now! Then I'll take a semi decent picture of it (dark lighting in here) and upload it for everyone's enjoyment. I'll leave the sketch for them to keep here, but I think it's a fun idea to try out. Hey, just had a look at your website and WOW the green lantern wallpaper is amazing..you got skills.
I'd like to make a request, if it's not too much trouble:
I'd like a Thai Boxing wallpaper for my computer (1280x800), preferably a dark background (but not too plain) with 2 silhouettes, one head-kicking the other, kind of like this http://popularmyanmarnews.com/epaper/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/muay_thai.gif but with more color, making the wallpaper stand out.
If you don't really know what a head kick looks like in action, i'd recommend you watch from 2:30 to around 2:50 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6zI4Y_P7S0 (watch it all to appreciate how asweme thai boxing is ).
Also, maybe if you're not sure about the style of the wallpaper you could search for muay thai wallpaper in google images. Add your own touch/ideas to it

I'm going to have to think about how to approach your request, because it's something you specifically want and since it's your logo, nobody else can use it. The idea behind the PixelReason blog is for me to make cool stuff that can be used by anybody. For specific logo requests and things like that, if I were to take up the work, I'd probably treat it like commercial work and have to charge for it. But I'll think about it some more and let you know.

Um.. almost all the theme chooser themes are simply recolored Google Stock images.. most of mine are made so just because it's a diff color of my other theme, it's still a theme.. Everyone has their own opinion and mine is that a theme should make the phone look totally different.. not just like a stock rom but with lightly shaded colors.. but that's just MY opinion..
As far as my butt hurting.. it doesn't.. lol. But almost every thread I post on XDA has someone that bashes, criticizes, rags on, or tells me I did something wrong.. it just gets old. But kudos on the tongue anyway.. ya could have said something worse..
If you have any themes I'd dig seeing them tho..

To please other users I have combined all my threads into 1...

Hey B-boy, what jabbawalkee says is true. I was PM'd by a Mod and told that i had to remove all the Links to the Paid Themes and now i just have Pictures for them in the Mega CM9AOKP Collection i'm Maintaining. I would suggest to remove the paid versions links. Just to save you from getting a PM/Mod Edit/Thread Lock.
EDIT: The threads that are still up with paid themes or what not are there still because the mods haven't found them or no one reported them. Those are the 2 main reasons threads get caught.

I would have been more than happy to do so had he simply said the reaons . All he said was ya can't link paid apps and since I didn't know there was a holy rule here I told him it was my app so its ok... but with his lack of people skills he went nutso instead... so when I get home I'll remove all the links and all my other work... there's plenty of fish in the Android sea and xda has no moderation for vulgar language or disrespectful users...

You dont have to remove your work man, things went down wrong but im sure a lot of people dig your work. I know i do, just that "Paid Themes" rule really causes issues.

I understand what you mean.Am not picking sides as I don't know any of you. BUT I respect any member especially the ones that do work and let it go for free, Work takes up most of our time and themers, and developers are under appreciated around here and make practically nothing, But bashing will cause people to stop any benefit to our community..believe me.. Either he is trying to make a little advertising, or isn't fully aware or the rules, it happens all over.. you should have kept it thru pm...as users are customers they support ones work and not only judge by work its how you speak as well. Like i said I'm picking no sides but as themers all you guys should be helping one another...it will get you farther

Keep your posts on topic no flame wars. Please respect one another . If a theme is free its fine to link it no issues with free things on Google play store.. If paid you need to ask admin for permission to do so.. Problem with paid apps is folks tend to go nuts with advertising and so on and some folks scam people so that is why rules are in place to prevent things like that from happening. Themes look good tho keep up the good work.
Next post off topic will result in a infraction being issued. So please keep posts on topic .
You guys know the rules about flaming and so on.

Velvet Themes - Support & Feedback, Communication

Hey everyone! So after a bit of a break I'm back and I've brought along some new themes for everyone to enjoy! Some of you may remember me over the past few years from various LG devices. So what the purpose of this thread is, is to provide support, feedback and allow me to communicate, interact and discuss my themes with all members of xda. I know that a lot of people now are pivoting to telegram but honestly albeit convenient it's just not as good for people to find things. With this format other members can view the thread and see suggestions or issues that have been brought up or add their own. I much prefer it this way and with all of my other threads I've found XDA to be the best way to provide support and gather feedback from members all over the world. There are a few rules that must be abided by. First, the purpose of this thread is exactly what the title states; "Support, feedback & communication". It is not to generate sales/revenue and as such I request that no paid links be posted. I understand some people like to make life easier to those who can't find a link but I forbid this as does XDA rules. XDA rules (11) states that
Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and to offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar / substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.
So let's keep it that way. Next, I don't mind if you ask me about eta's. I know some people get quite fired up about that but it doesn't bother me. This doesn't mean that when you ask, that one magically shows up. My life has become much busier than it was in the past and I spend considerably more time creating themes than I did when I first was making them for the V20, G6, V30. After those devices it became possible to theme more elements and I also believe my abilities improved. So I really try to focus on attention to details. Next let's have some fun in here. After all this is supposed to be a fun hobby that we all share (customizing our devices). I absolutely love screenshots so if you want to post some of your home screen setup while using my themes, by all means show off your creativity. Lastly be kind and courteous to each other. If you've read this far I thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing your input and feedback. Update info:
In closing some of you may ask about (insert theme name) that you used to use on your old (insert name) device. Some of these themes are anywhere from 2-4 years old and honestly they likely won't be. After about a year or two I normally stop updating a theme. Some themes in all honesty don't require updates. More on that in a bit. But here's the thing. LG has an interesting way of doing things. So for example let's say you used pixel experience on your G7 of V40 and you liked using it. Sure I could technically update it to work on the V60. But by doing so it would cause it to stop working on the G7 or V40. That is simply not fair to do to those who have not changed their devices. I've tried to make it work in the past and it always causes more harm than good so for that reason I generally avoid that. Back to update frequency. As I was saying, not all themes will require frequent updates. A theme sometimes reaches a point where it is pretty much bug free and eventually it runs it course and I don't just update for the sake of updating. An update serves a purpose of either improving of correcting something and sometimes less is more.
Now for my first theme which has an optional add-on system icon pack:

So I really debated making this theme for a long time. I had the odd email here and there over the years asking if I could make this and I always politely declined. But I decided finally to do it... Why not right! Anyway I think this turned out pretty well and it has dark and light mode styles, icons and wallpapers. When you want to switch switch to default theme, then choose either light or dark mode and reapply the theme. If not the icons won't take properly. Here's some more screenshots if you'd rather look at them longer than shown in my video. Anyway I hope you like it! I'm honestly not sure how many more LG themes I'm going to make. It seems with LG discontinuing their mobile division that interest in themes has died down quite a bit.

Well this by far is the quietest LG themes thread I've ever had sadly. Anyway folks a couple of weeks ago I made another theme and I never announced it here. Anyway this is it here. Check it out. I hope you like it. I honestly don't know how much longer I'm going to continue making LG themes. I've been doing this for a very long time and interest is really dwindling now and I just don't know if I'm going to keep going for much longer.
