I rooted my NOOKColor a couple of days ago using Auto-nooter 3.0 and everything went fine. I was able to start up Google Talk, browse the Android Marketplace and download a few apps, sync with my Gmail account, and basically do everything I tried.
Somewhere along the way, I lost the ability to start up Google Talk. Along with that whenever I try to download an app from the Marketplace, the screen says "Starting Download" but the download never starts. I searched the mobileread forums, the Android forums, and the messages posted here looking for a solution. It appears that the root of the problem is the inability to start Google Talk which somehow prevents the downloading of apps from the Marketplace.
Does anyone know how to get Google Talk working again ?? I know that I can just "un-root" the NC and start from scratch but that seems like a bit of overkill - sorta like breaking an egg with a sledgehammer!!
Any help or suggestions on how to get both Google Talk and Marketplace downloading again would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks . . .

Hi everyone.
I'm really confused now, because several apps like pocket auctions and barcode scanner and a few more seems to be in a "cannot find it" mode, because after my factory reset on my hero, when I search the marlket it doesn't show up.
And yes, I've tried several approaches but still...nothing.
After several hours online searching, all I found was an old, buggy version of the app for ebay, wich didn't work properly, the barcode scanner seems to have vanished into thin air.
Does anyone know/experience the same?
Any solutions?
Can someone maybe post the apk file for the newest apk file?
Please reply to this, thank you.
Btw. I'm running the modaco 3.0 rom.
I too am using MCR 3.0 and I'm experiencing the same problem: can't see all apps, for example barcode scanner...
Does anyone have any suggestion?
Now I've tried downgrading my phone to MCR 2.8 without any changes to the market problem.
I installed the rooted version of the latest official htc hero software, and guess what...no luck.
I've even changed the recovery image from cyanogens 1.4 + jf to the RA-hero-v1.5.2, then installed the different roms after wiping every time.
I'm starting to think the apps has been removed from market, but since I find them on the android market website (from my puter without the download opportunity) I'm just confused.
hm no idea sorry, but you could try market enabler, which changes the country the market thinks your in! maybe they stopped showing those apps to your country or something idk but id try it! (need root which im assuming you have)
Hmmm....
I think it's the numbnuts at google that's the problem.
I have two gmail adresses, when I use nr 1 everything works fine, but with the other one the market problem really annoys me.
And even better, the second mail adress is the one I'm using on both phones and EEE puter.
The first mail adress where market shows everything, was not intended for my phones.
Yesyes, sounds like a stupid problem, but still, open source is open source, and if google somewhat had blocked my "phone's email adress" then they should call it partially random open source!
DAMMIT this pisses me off, I've used two whole days reading online to fix this.
I hope that it is another problem and not the email adress that's somewhat blocked partially from the market app.
Does anyone know if the barcode scanner and pkt auctions ebay are protected apps ?
EDIT 1:
Now I've tried using my HTC Touch Pro running the Android port lying around in here and another place
On that phone, using both my email adresses works, wich even the one that doesn't work on my hero works on the android port on the touch pro.
This is just something that frustrates me more and more, and I'm getting more and more confused now, this is REALLY weird.
Another thing is, I cannot find Market Enabler anywhere unless I wipe the phone and use another gmail adress.
I'm starting to suspect some kind of conspiracy here now !
So far I've created myself a new gmail for phone use, that is... for my android
Does any1 know if the G. guys register the mail adress in a database of some kind together with the uniqe android ID from the phone ?
I'm just trying to think outside the box here.
Since the problem with android market solves when I reset the google.apps in the settings->applications menu I guess there is some apple-like non-open source similar going on here, much like apple store and so on.
If this is not the case, please enlighten me.
And more important, please help us all with a solution to the problem.
For now whenever I want to look at apps, I have to change the gmail adress, reboot the phone and then search.
I can change the adress without booting the phone, find the "missing" apps in market but NOT install them.
Hopefully someone can help me get the market to download apps.
Steps taken:
1. Rooted with Auto-nooter 0.1
2. Ran Auto-nooter 2.12.15 over top of 0.1 to fix some stuff
3. Market failed to download apps
4. Factory Reset - reverted to stock
5. Re-registered NC to functioning stock device
6. Rooted with Auto-nooter 2.12.15
7. Got root, followed all instructions to enable device and extras in order specified
8. Market still not downloading
Can anyone else say they are having this issue? What about a possible fix to this?
When I went to Sync gmail for the first time, my account was already in the device. I'm assuming this was because of the Youtube activation with my gmail account?
Thanks
I'm also having a problem downloading apps from the Marketplace. They show up as Downloading but never download. I searched for the problem on the Android Marketplace help, which offers the following suggestions (go to google support androidmarket and click the download issues troubleshooting page):
If your application is stalled at "Starting download", please use a few of the following troubleshooting steps to help your download to completion:
Confirm that there is connectivity on your device (contact your mobile service provider if you aren't connected)
If downloading a paid application, confirm that your credit card information is up to date by logging in your Google Checkout account
Make sure that your phone is logged into Google Talk by following these steps:
Go to your phone’s app launcher, and press the Talk app
If you’re already logged into Talk, press Menu, and then touch Sign out
Launch Talk again to sign in
If unsuccessful after attempting these steps, let us know and we'll be happy to investigate further. However, I cannot sign in to Talk on the NC. Anyone having similar problems?
I followed the steps below to Root, after Rooting and Unrooting due to the Market issue:
Chose Complete action using Setup Wizard
Tapped Droid bot
Skipped Learn how to use your LogicPD Zoom2
Skipped Set up your Google Account
Selected both boxes for Use Google Location and clicked Next
Clicked the menu arrow -- settings -- Wireless & connected to WiFi
Launched Youtube, accepted ToS, clicked menu and added my linked google account
Launched Gmail and refreshed
Launched market and accepted ToS.
Well, my limited experience (i only got market able to work last night at 3 AM Pacific) taught me that even if you don't see an item downloading in the task bar, if you go to the main Android Market screen and click Downloads you'll see it there. And it installs on its own. You do see the "installed" check mark symbol though, after it's done.
For some reason, mine started working all of a sudden. I didn't do anything different since second root attempt. Maybe I wasn't waiting long enough for the download to kick off. Anyways, thanks guys.

I'm having this issue now as well. I've restarted a few times to no avail...
So, bought a nook color yesterday. It came loaded with 1.2, and the first thing I did after registering is root. No custom ROM, but have superruser and official Android Market access. I can even install a few apps. However, there are a few that I expected to see (Kindle, Astro in particular) that dont show up via a specific search for them in the Market. Did I do something wrong? Did I somehow half-root this? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
There are issues with the market after rooting. One of the devs seems to have finally figured it out (apparently it's been quite a ***** to sort out), but he's validating it before publishing it.
Same problem
I have the same problem with the market place. Where will the fix be posted?
After manual rooting Calendar issues
After doing the manual root the one application that seems to be the trouble for me is Calendar. The Google Calendar does not allow to add an account calendar to use. I have tried several other applications with no luck either. One indicates there is a issue synch information.
Then the other minor issue is within the Market has been fun. While in the Market it will decide to either go back a screen, go to the main area of the Market or exit completely out of the Market. That created issue when I was in the middle of downloading an application.
Any suggestions? The Calendar is more important but it would be nice to get both issues resolved.
This worked great for me.

The Calendar issue was resolved with CalenGoo. It is able to synch and update information.
Market is getting better with the steps.
Let the fun begin.
found this
this worked partly for me. shows all the apps now, but they still wont install. ha

Is there a way to download apps directly to my PC, instead of the Nook?
There are some apps that are "not compatible" in the market, but several times when I get them as standalone apk, I can install them and get them to run on the nook!
hello
i have some thing like that problem i download app from internet like acrobat reader for android and this app is in my download but when i hit it say error and didnt install
can any body help me?
http://tinyurl.com/3gnvuzq
or even EzPDF or mantano cuz it is way better.
http://tinyurl.com/4xqlw6x i know it is a bit "warezzy" but comparing to other it really doesn't have many of these illegal apps (not even 1% of their huge database). It is better than amazon appstore, because it both downloads and installs apps, instead of just downloading (root needed).
Felt a bit retarded looking at the solution... :S
It is just a bit obnoxious to download all the free software by looking at google, but considering the solution of installing android SDK, emulator, a rom with market, etc. - as I've recently seen on the internet - in order to find the appropriate apk, I think it is way better to google or use the black-mart app - even though I'm looking more for a way to circumvent device compatibility...
Thanks, domi.nos
BTW, whenever you do a search for an apk, lots of time you get to market links, and takes you back to the old android market - which is more than 75% of the links I get to find...
For me, the easiest way to install apps is threw market.android.com . I haven't had the problems i ran into using the app on the nook itself. When you hit the "Send to" button it just says "Phone" and will push to your nook.
Hi
Up until yesterday, apps, whether paid or free would download fine on my device. Nothing has changed my end, but today, paid apps will no longer download (free apps download fine). There are two issues, the authorising payment page takes eons (used to be instant), and the phone sits on the 'starting download' or 'downloading...' pages for ever without ever actually downloading the app that I have paid for. Issue is present whether I initiate the download from the phone or from a PC.
Obviously, this makes the phone next to useless. I have no time to wipe/re-install the phone - especially since this may not even fix the issue!
I can find no 'report an issue' link at google's market to get support on this issue. The apps purchased are past the refund window.
I have tried all the various fixes I found on google (start google talk, kill cache/app settings for market and downloader), try another internet connection, restart phone blah blah, nothing has worked.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Nigel
Paid apps that had previously been installed and then removed will re-install fine... I can only assume that its the authorisation thats failing (nothing wrong with any of the cards on my google wallet account).
Nigel
Go to setting - application - manage - All - market - clear cache n Data
do same for talk (google talk)
first login to talk then market
In market application - check setting - accout - Fix default if you have multiple acc
Hi
As mentioned in my original post. I already tried that. I just tried it again with the same result.
After having done the above, I tried to buy the app from my PC, Got the following message 'Your order is still being processed. Your item will become available as soon as your order is complete. If you'd like, you can check your order status at anytime.' which is not the norm. Clicking the link within the message takes me to the transaction in google wallet which is listed as 'complete' unfortunately, the download does not auto-start (like it used to) on the phone, and when I force it to manually start, It goes to the 'starting download...' message. The app never does download, market app just displays this message forever more until I go and 'clear data' for the market app.
I give up! Looks like I am stuck with what I have on the phone + whatever I can get for free.
Have emailed google, will update thread should they bother to respond.
Market version is 3.4.4 | Download Manager is 2.3.5
Have you vosited web version of market?
Market.android.com login with google acc.
You will see your purchased appl there, if u can see there, click on install from there, it will start installing to ur device remotely
Try it
Hi
Yep, tried that - does not work. I can initiate the installation of free apps from the market on a pc, but not paid apps. The paid app I am trying to install is listed as having been successfully purchased. Looks like a bug/glitch, but one I am going to have to wait for google to fix.
Do you have the Amazon app market installed?

This issue seems to be with KL3 onwards and region or could be csc dependent, the only fix for this is to use the older market version the 2.6.x
try going into recovery mode and choose fix permission
Hi
Well, I got an auto response from google 'we are looking into it', but no emails since. Tried again this morning, and everything just started working again. Whether this was an issue with the market, my market account, my google wallet account etc is unknown.
I'd like to know the reason so I can fix it if it happens again, but at least its now working again.
@ericshmerick: Nope, no amazon app market. I don't believe this works in the UK
Nigel
The exact same thing is happening to me were you able to eventually get the apps you purchased its been about two days and the problem persists I have filed a support case with Google happening on two phones and a tablet ans the web market through a PC isn't working either. It seems to get stuck at authorizing the payment .

This was a big problem two weeks ago. I think the CheckROM guys figured out how to fix it. Their forum has a nice FAQ at the start. Have a look there. If that doesn't help then wade through the Rocket forum.
