I'm running CM7, run Gears and get a max of 40-47 FPS. Is this normal? I figure something like a NC would get 60.
I searched for this
Yea same thing here , stock rooted nook got up to 56/58 fps, strange

I ve been convertin videos to watch on my g1 but every video I try lags
Im using a class 6 sdcard, I ve tried setting my cpu to max, which does help a bit but still the lag
I ve run the converted files (mp4) on my pc and they work perfectly.
The sound and video quality is great but it jumps every couple of seconds, I ve tried 4 different video players.
Anyone got any advice how I can fix this? I ve tried varyin bitrates but all with the same results.
convert the video to a lower bit rate
thanks for your reply
I had to go down to 120 kbs before I stopped the lag, qualities pretty poor but it runs pretty smooth now
I use BadaBoom and convert files to about 800, before I notice a lag issue. I have even converted some to 1200 and they work good. You could also try going into airplane mode, but I have never had to.
hi thanks for your response, ive certainly bookmarked badaboom but im afraid my graphics card isnt up to it and im on ubuntu.
I ve been using avidemux to convert, perhaps its jus my pc thats causin issues.
Thanks for the tip on airplane mode, didnt think of that
Big thanks 2 JackD3ath
airplane mode fixed it perfectly and iam only fillin my fone up with videos becuz i am flying
Now I jus hav to reconvert the 11 files I set at 120 kbs bitrate a little higher, but hey it works
You can use handbrake to do that on linux. The settings for our phones are about the same as for an Iphone. I think I had to change the video codec (in the video tab) to the ffmeg setting.
Anyone notice that neocore doesn't work properly on the nook color. It just keeps going on and on and on. Any idea why? (sorry if this has already been adressed or im doing something wrong).
23.2 fps. Works fine for me
I've tried 2 separate TV's and 3 different cables, and it always performs the same, 1080p at 30hz, but everything has about a 1 second delay and terrible FPS. For example if I'm sitting at my homescreen with its Live Wallpaper up, everything is running smooth and great (lets just say it's at 60fps). Once I plug in the cable everything slows down tremendously, the wallpaper looks like it's now only running anywhere between 5 and 15 fps, and it's moving about 4x as slow. It feels exactly like the phone's processor is being underclocked to the absolute minimum possible.. lol..
I'm still using stock AT&T firmware rooted, though I plan on flashing a different rom and trying again.
Has anyone else tried using HDMI out?
So no one else has used HDMI on their s5?
Does anyone know if there's at least a way to change it so it outputs at 720p instead of 1080p?
Has anyone else noticed that the 60hz setting on this phone isn't actually 60hz but 60.3?
Am annoyed with this because I really wanted to use this phone a lot for emulation on the go but am getting micro stutters with emulation because of this.
For example. Ppsspp on games like ridge Racer will micro stutter on races due to the game wanting to play at 60hz but the screen being 60.3hz
Retroarch is the same on emulators.
The best way to check this is happening is to install an emulator like snes9x ex, and run a rom at default settings. You will see the stutter. Mario kart for example on the title screen is easy to spot this.
However, if you allow the game to run at detected screens refresh (which is actually 60.34hz) then the game runs flawlessly.
What gives? I'd assume on a phone primarily sold for gaming purposes this refresh rate would be totally nailed down to 60.00?
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
No one else has this issue?
I've updated to latest official WW firmware and the problem is not solved. I've even done a complete reset and problem still exists. Can only assume at this point that the 60hz mode actually isn't 60hz at all. That'll be enough for me to go back to the black shark 2 until this is resolved, if ever. ?
Does anyone emulate using retroarch or anything on this phone at all?
If so, how do you get literally anything to run smoothly? Messing with the phone even more and I cannot get rid of micro stutter. Im even getting it on 60fps locked android games? Is this issue just my phone or are people just ignoring the problem?

I emulate through citra mmj, dolphin & ps2damon. Not facing any frame-related issues. I add these apks to armory crate and lock them to 60 fps regardless of the phones global refresh rate. Although I did not face any problems prior to doing this. I've also been playing regular android games in both 60 & 120 fps without issues. The only funny problem I've found is that many game engines lock their speed to fps, so if you force 120 on unsupported games, many will run in x2 speed.
I've never heard of retroarch before, what are the benefits?
EDIT: I'm on WW .34

I suppose with emulators for PS2 and GameCube etc the problem will be less obvious because games are prone to slight frame drops anyway because they don't quite run full speed all of the time.
Retroarch is basically an all in one UI that has loads of emulators all under one roof.
I boot all emulators at 60 through the crate but it doesn't make a difference.
I know it's an issue where the 60hz mode isn't actually 60, it's slightly off it. What I'm trying to figure out is whether it's an issue with my phone( some weird hardware fault) or an issue with all Rog 2 phones.
You'll only really see the problem with games or emulators that are a hard lock to 60fps.
So emulators like SNES, genesis, GBA, ppsspp or playstation 1 it's quite easy to see.
Its a common problem in cheap Chinese tablets where they don't nail down the refresh rates, but didn't think it would be in a high end gaming phone.
Edit:
I've had one other person test in snes9xex and he's getting the same issue as me so it seems it might be a phone issue. Hopefully it gets fixed in future firmwares, I don't know
Yesterday i bought an used Rog 3 in perfect condition, advertised as vanilla Rog 3, with normal Rog 3 case an all. Nowhere does it say "Strix".
Aida64 saw it as 865+ as well, which sealed the deal.
To my surprise, testing it at home i found the CPU clock is locked at 2.84 at level 3, and the GPU at 500 something, loke normal 865, so i was scammed it seems.
No ideea why it shows 865+ in certain programs, as it obviously is not, it is the Strix version.
Was wondering if rooting the phone would help me turn it into 865+ levels of performance. Thanks a lot!
The GPU can easily be tweaked using Konabess (you can find the apk on Github). Root required. The cleanest way to make changes to the CPU would be though the kernel but I'm not sure if there is a good custom kernel out there and would generally just leave it alone - the 865 does is good job controling the juice levels to meet demand out of the box, unless you really need the "+"...
Thanks for the reply friend.
In the meantime i bought an actual + version, so all is good on my end, i don't think i'll need to mess with rooting and overclocking. It works really well so far.
I'm thinking in adding the 160 hz refresh rate to the phone, if you have any experience with this, pkease share it with me.

The 160hz refresh rate didn't look good for me, made the display look washed out. But you can easily enable it and check it out for yourself. 120hz is best for me when I need high refresh rate, typically when running apps/games at 60fps. There are extremely few games/apps out there today that will run higher fps to match the highest refresh rates and your battery will take a hard hit too.
Hey, now that you metioned it, i'm interested in 160 hz especially for 60 fps games (emulation), and i'l quickly explain why:
Games that are made natively at ~ 60 fps (say an arcade like Street Fighter Zero 3 run in Retroarch) curiously runs stuttery if the screen is set to 60 hz, less stuttery at 120 hz screen, no stutter at 144 (just a bit of resampling ghosting...almost unoticeable) and i'm curious to see how 160 hz screen handles this situation.
Could you link me a quick noob friendly tutorial for enabling 160 please?

120hz pairs well with 60fps - smooth high refresh rate at 2 x 60 fps although it's not perfectly matched. Some tearing will always occur. The higher refresh rates compensate for it through the higher redraw rates. The perfect solution would be variable refresh rate that dynamically adjusts to the highest possible refresh rate matched to your FPS (like G-SYNC on a pc)...
Either way, the 160 hz option on the ROG 3 tends to wash out the display, I don't think ROG's display is good at handling 160 hz - which explains why they have factory disabled it. But try it out and see if you like it. You can enable it with this setprop change:
adb shell setprop debug.vendor.asus.fps.eng 1
Reboot the device and you should see it enabled.
Thanks, i assume i have to connect the phone to the PC. Anyway, i'll figure it out
144 hz actually works similar to a Variable refresh, as i can play without stuttering even games with native 59.2 fps, or 59.6. Neither 90 nor 120 hz work well in this case, just 144.
I activated the 160 hz option.
It's indeed a bit low on contrast, but that can be easily tweaked inside the game/emulator via shaders.
It appears to be the smoothest option for my emulation needs, a bit smoother than 144 at first glance. Also it seems to have the lowest touch input delay (not to be mistaken with sampling rate), possibly ~ 40 ms (will test this in the near future). For refference, 60 hz has ~ 80 ms.
Seems to be no difference in battery life between this and 144, at least not a noticeable one.
Will test it further and maybe keep it for the games where i need the fastest response and smoothest scrolling (shmups, fighters).
Thanks for all you assistance!
