video chat gtab to pc? - G Tablet Themes and Apps

Its called ooVoo
I was able to get this program on vegan 7. Currently doing IMs and VOIP.the video chat is blocked out on the program and in the programs settings. I think with the growing number of gtab users we can figure this out. I am using this right now talking to wife on her PC.I will continue on solution but I'm just a rookie compared to some I downloaded via a link on xda. I will find it again and post

[Q] - Any Apps out there for this?

My buddy wants to get into android, but he was curious if there was an app where he could control his computer remotely. Like tell it to download something?
That seems extreme and not feasible to me. Any apps out there close to this though?
I need to pull up gmote and see its capabilities.

I think that you might be able to control your computer with VNC but I haven't tried.
In regards to downloading... sure. There are a lot of torrent apps that will connect to your bittorrent clients (such as utorrent or whatever). You just need to make sure everything is set up properly.
Yeah, he has utorrent on his computer currently. So can he see his desktop on his droid and open up programs on his computer?
If so, that seems unreal to me. I looked and saw on gmotes site they had a beta that sounded like this.
Can anyone confirm? Thank you guys.

If he's using a Windows Desktop, there is a RDP client on the App Market, just search for RDP. He will need to have his router setup to forward the proper ports (3389 TCP) to his computer for it to work, but I've used it to download things in a pinch, and copy it up to a webserver to download on my G1....
he's not gonna be doing anything ridiculous on it, remember there is a HUGE resolution difference b/t G1/DROID/Mobiles in general vs Computer Resolutions...
Okay, sounds very intriguing.
Let me word it differently though:
From his Droid, would he be able to see his desktop and scroll to uTorrent and tell it to download something, to his computer, not the droid.
You guys are awesome. I am floored that our G1 can do what you guys have told me. I obviously need to move beyond flashing roms and themes and learn what the guts can do.

Really what it sounds like you're asking, is he can remotely connect to his desktop, use it to search for and download the torrent file, and open it in the torrent client...? Complete remote control of his computer from off-site...? I don't know about you guys, but I have to search for and find a torrent file from a tracking site (demonoid, thepiratebay, etc.) and d/l that, then open it in my torrent client (utorrent).
I don't think this is capable yet... but I'm interested to hear more about this from those that know.
Remote Desktop Client works just like RDP and will allow you to log into your computer at home from your android phone using your windows login. Once logged in you have your trackball to move the mouse and can do anything you could do sitting in front of your computer. Its a $15 app which is really high for android OS but its been more than worth $15 all the times its saved my butt.
I also use it to monitor my utorrent download remotely.

If he has uTorrent then he can just set up the webui and forward his utorrent port on his/her router to the ip address of the computer. then download Transdroid (what I use because it has a decent widget) and set that up. TIP: use no-ip (or whatever) to set up a static ip address and change the name (like [email protected]) so you can just input that in the Default Server settings in the Transdroid preferences. It also uses isoHunt, Mininova, BT Junkie and even allows you to enter your own to search for new torrents. When you find one to download simply select it and it sends it to the computer. From there the uTorrent client will open the torrent that was sent and starts the download process. You can easily track the status of the active torrents on the client with it as well.
There are some out there that will even let you scan a barcode of a movie (useful if your in the video store) and it'll lookup the movie and send the torrent to your pc and it'll start downloading. If you have a decent enough internet connection you can go to the video store, scan a movie in the New Releases section, leave empty handed, get some Jack In The Box and by the time you get home the movie can already be on your computer ready to be viewed/burned. And it's not just for movies. It's for any other type of torrent.

Upload Disabled Fix?

So I know this has been an issue since at least the G1, and that there's a sort of workaround either using Linda File Mgr for Gmail uploads or use the Opera browser. Most of the posts out there on this issue are old now so apologies if I've missed something current sifting through everything...
Does a patch/fix/hack exist yet for the unrooted N1/2.1 to correct what seems to be a perpetual Google "beta" bug they have no interest in addressing? I mean, my world won't end if I can't upload a new pic to Facebook or video to Youtube, but it's a glaring omission from an otherwise great handset. Or is it an intentional nod to the carriers for bandwidth sake?
OK so, duh. I realized that if you long press on a photo or video in the gallery then click 'share' it gives you a bunch of options for places to upload to.
However...it's still extremely lame to not be able to upload anything from the stock browser, e.g., uploading pics to a blog or non-sponsored service when that uploading has to happen via the site's form (as opposed to FTP). I know Flash 10.whatever is a part of that, but plenty of sites use Java to handle uploads. Maybe that's what I'm missing...maybe the 'Upload Disabled' button shows up automatically on the Flash sites and I just haven't come across a Java-based site yet.
I would love to see this fixed soon, but just as an FYI, the fix has been committed to the Android source (not yet in AOSP) for Froyo:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2519#c112
Bump.... is this fixed in Froyo? If so can it be back ported to 2.1?
Confirmed working in stock Froyo. I can upload images, music tracks, sound clips to popular websites (e.g. Rapidshare).

Awesome!!
Are you using the stock browser? Does it only allow you access to the sdcard?
Yep, stock browser.
From the looks of it, yes it does only allow me to access the SD card. I'm also limited to the categories I mentioned above (there's no "Other" option).
what a crock...
Just got Evo at launch, (coming from WinMo), and had to install opera today just to help a fellow XDAer to upload a file to xda for him. Unbelievable!

Need video chat / conference testers

I recently published my ReelPortal video chat/conference software for Android 2.2 (using Adobe AIR 2.5) at the AppsLib market:
http://appslib.com/applications/app.html?ida=31520
I don't have a G Tablet, but would like to compile a list of devices that the app works on. So I'm looking for testers out there.
Please provide feedback if you try it. Thanks.
For more info on testing, please visit www.ReelPortal.com.
I just added another version reelportalX.apk (version 1.0.1). This version is working fine now. I suggest using it instead of the older one.
You must get Adobe AIR 2.5.1 from Android Market, or you can download the Adobe AIR SDK (http://www.adobe.com/products/air/sdk/), and get it in subdirectory runtimes\air\android\emulator, or runtimes\air\android\device. I found that Adobe doesn't allow posting the AIR apk on a website. Note: don't use the AIR link in post #6.
If you want to test chat with other folks around the world, please join the "xda" room (all lower case). Capacity is limited .
firewater2003:
Install Adobe Air 2.5.1 from here: http://download.pandaapp.com/?app=soft&controller=android&action=show&f_id=2291
Beware of TNT dashboard:
MoonPops: I kept getting the black screen while starting up ReelPortal in the TNT dashboard home, but it works fine in the Android Home Classic screen interface.
Firmwares that were confirmed to work:
Stock TNT 3588 (do NOT use TNT dashboard)
TnT 4.1.0
TNT lite 5.01
VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1
can not find adobe air in market... running tnt 3.1.2
when I launch reelportal app, it get a blank screen
I did find adobe air 2.5 and installed it from another source.
I installed Adobe Air and your. apk and everything installed fine. Web cam and interface came up and seems to work fine. Only problem is, I don't have anyone to chat with, so I don't know how well that works......lol.
worked between my Droid 1 and my Gtablet.

I found an APK for Air here:

I was going to try between my Gtab and emulator.
Air installs ok on my emulator, but reelportal.apk says "application did not install" ...

Same experience here. Stock 3389 with performance pack. Grabbed Air from another XDA post (2.5.15320). It just comes up to a blank screen.
Can those who got it to work link the apk they located?

Hi,
I found this:
http://reelportal.blogspot.com/
Is this your website?
If I'm understanding how this works (when it works), these chats go through your chat server, and the way that we would do one-to-one video chats would basically to "join" a chat on your chat server?
Thanks,
Jim
Installed air and reelportal. Just a black screen for me too, running TnT lite 3.1.3

Jim:
Yes, that's my "readme" page for my ReelPortal dot com site. Sorry I'm not allowed to post any links .
You are correct on the server. It routes the data from the clients to each other. However, the clients can also do peer-2-peer with each other (this is the default mode). When first started, the clients all connect to my server to sign on. The server checks for name conflict and room availability, and authorizes the session. If you are in a room, the server connects you to all the clients in the room automatically. Of course, you can call individual person if you know their name(nick). You can also disconnect from any client you want.
In p2p mode, all video/audio traffic goes directly from client to client(s). The server doesn't have to process it. If you select client/server mode, then the server receives your stream and distribute it to all subscribing clients. This lessen your uplink bandwidth if you have multiple subscribers.
The next version will allow you to specify your own server. And yes, you can run your own server on linux, windows, or macOS. And perhaps other platforms too, if you are inclined to do so. An older server version is currently available from my download page, but I will release the newer version in conjunction with the next client.

To test, you can actually call yourself . Once connected, press button 7 (P2P), and select "Send to Server" mode. Then, press one of the "blue head" on the right, then press the ">" button on the dialog. A list will appear, and your nickname is the always the first one on the list. Click it, and you should see your own stream feeding back to you. Basically:
Your video ----> Server -----> Your device
Or if you have a computer, just run the web client on your computer, join the same room on both devices, or call the other's nick to establish connection. Hope that helps.

If it's a blank white screen, then perhaps it's not finding the server. Is your internet connection available or slow? Ideally, I should have some status indicator to be a bit more user friendly.
I also tried the adobe air file posted here, but reelportal apk only opens to a blank screen still. What are we doing wrong?

can u retry...if the install was ok, then i suspect either the connection is slow, or my server is busy.
I ran a brief loopback test under low 4g in Philadelphia. Performance looked good but I was unable to select front camera on EVO. I will play with this some more but front camera access is a must.

Thanks. Apparently, the front camera can't be access at this time . I googled this:
"AIR does not currently support the front camera.
In fact, the Android OS does not natively support the front camera. The device manufacturer provides a separate Java library that makes the camera available to Java apps."
I wonder if Android 2.3 supports multiple cams.
Also, is the front camera access problem the same for all tablet devices? Or is it device dependent?
To answer my own question: android 2.3 supports multiple cameras.

[Q] Skype video calling for android!

Hi guys, I have just found out that a skype video call software is out for HTC thunderbolt but can anyone crack it to use it on our SGS?
The apk can be found here:
http://lts.cr/YAV
I hope this is not a repeat thread, before it was EVO which got video calling but I guess it was exclusively for some US network!
Thanks!
Bump-age
Hope so. Or even to fix the Gtalk video calling so we can use the front camera.
Skype video calling is WAY WAY WAY overdue. I know it not the fault of anyone here though.
Screw Skype. If they don't want to cater to Android users, I don't want to use them either.
When posts talk about skype and android being a no go , is it the general skype app or does this take into account
the skype on three app.The three one works just fine with a three sim card in.
Edit. Sorry bout this post, must have been half asleep last night, the word video didn't register in my brain as being the actual post subject, I just saw skype.
Has anyone tried Qik? Skype purchased it recently and my bet is we'll see the two combined before long.

What do you mean they don't cater for Android ?? Video call support is nice to have, but for most users (including me) voice call support is enough; except for few GUI bugs they have done a pretty decent job with Android Skype app, far better than what Nimbuzz or Fring ever did for Skype voice. Besides, only iOS has video support, that too was added late last year. IMO they will eventually add video support.
I don't understand why they haven't added it to the Android app yet.
I once thought it was because of missing front-camera API's that Google only recently introduced in Gingerbread, but that can't be the reason, since there are a lot of other apps that allow video-calling and work on Froyo.
I wouldn't bother with Skype anyway, were it not for the sheer number of users and the presence on virtually all platforms.
People are begging for a true multiplattform app that allows videocalling to any device (not only iPhone to Mac or Android to GMail).
And since a lot of people use Skype, it's just the easiest way to go (until Facebook introduces video-calling, whicht won't take too long I'm guessing).
Anyway, enough of this, I hope somebody can modify the mentioned app and make it work on our SGS.
Yahoo messenger supports video calls if you guys really want video support between a PC and Andoid/iOS.
Some ppl have already tried to get it working on other phones here. But looks like they have given up on it.

I saw the post on the skype blog, under android, downloaded it but havent yet called anyone, as i have no friends on it lol.
I thought id be able to use my old skype account but one is required to make a new Qik account. Seems like a quick registration process though.
Live iPhone-to-Android video chat
"The following devices support VGA quality resolution during Video Chat over Wi-Fi: Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung Galaxy Player, Samsung Galaxy S, and Telus Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G"
I hope SGS can run this

[Q] Where To Find Skype Anroid Data (Chat) files on Galaxy S?

I need to copy some extensive chat data files from Skype on my Android SGS1... before I flash new firmware. Even Googling can't point me in any sort of direction or filepath! Where the heck, rooted or unrooted, will i find these data files and specifically chat?
Thanks guys
as far as I know, Skype Chat-data is on their servers, so unreachable for you. you should be able to flash and still have your chats - though I noticed that if you log on Pc there's a different chat history than on the smartphone... maybe they store it extra for the skype app?
I can not guarantee for the things I wrote - but I think it's just that way.

Hi, well on a PC Sype files are kept on the PC itself and never on Skype..the reason the chats may differ between a PC and Andrpoid device is, you had one on and not the other, so they did not syncy. So I really fear fklashing as these chat records are very very valuable indeed and I can't afford to lose them! Thanks, but any other ideas out there?
