Hi there, I am newbie,
I just bought nook yesterday that comes with nook V5 and today I upgraded to V5.1 and successful, no much problems. Those problems I have resolved
1. Unable to burn CWM to SDCard, I try to burn 8GB image to 8GB SDCard using Win32DiskImager however fails, the Win32DiskImager report Not enough space on disk. I solve this problem by downloading earlier version (RELEASE-0.1) of Win32DiskImager and successful, this does not happen to other user. FYI, my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I try to set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP 3 but unsuccessful too.
2. After flashing phiremod V5.1 and unmount SDCard and restart, it still goes to recovery mode though the SD Card is removed! The problem solve when I do restart again in the recovery mode
3. The lock screen is small in a certain region only, I did LCDDensity to 161 and apply and restart and it fixes, don't know whether restarting or LCDDensity solves the issue
4. Flash does not work, I install flash 10.1 and still don't work in dolphin browser, the problem solved once I clear the browser cache and reload the page.
5. Tube XL is working properly.
This is what I encountered. Thank you so much for teams who made Nook Color possible to run Android, I am awaiting for your next hard work to make HoneyComb possible with Nook Color.
Best Regards
Innosia

Yes. Enable in Settings and remember to Fix Permissions in ROM Manager. Then reboot. You can pair stereo headphones, various BT adapters. Jury is out on keyboards. No luck with hands free BT headsets.

Anyone able to get zinio magazine reader run on the nook color?
Following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827566 here I got the apk and installed, but the zinio app isnt visible and the readerhub isnt working either.
the zinio app is the last thing I need to say woohoo and be satisfied with the root.
Thanks to all who have done so much with the nookcolor to root and share the information!
Thanks
I tried it as well. Got nothing.
Seems like a cool app but doesn't work yet.
I was just on the phone with Zinio today because I wanted to find out if they will be coming out with an Android app, and they told me they are working on one and should have it sometime in the first half of 2011.
This version

works for me on Nookie Froyo, but dies on the stock firmware.
I tried installing on stock firmware with adb. I got the icon to show up but that's about it. I did try changing permissions but that did not help either. Works on my EVO. So something is missing the stock firmware.
Maybe it requires flash to work, it works fine for me on Froyo, booted of an SD card.

Anyone have this working with CM7 on the Nook Color? I loaded the three APK's but zinio just force closes as soon as it tries to connect. If the wifi is off the app seems to work. Tried fixing permissions and rebooting but it didn't help. Wondering if maybe it doesn't work with flash 10.2 perhaps...

Hey everyone, I got my wife a nook color for Xmas. I followed all the steps for the autonooter and got to the android setup screen, skipped and all that. Rebooted and now it only stays on the n screen. I updated it to 1.0.1 and I have experience rooting with my g1. Is it bricked or can I fix it?
Make sure that you use the NC to format the SD card with the AutoNooter Image on it.
Ok, how would I get it to do that now though if it won't boot into the android ui? It's not bricked is it? And can I just redo autonooter?
Easy fix. Do the 8X reset and the 3 button reset and you'll be back to stock. You may have to redo the 1.0.1 update. Then make a new autonooter img and you are good.

Thanks, haha I feel like a noon again, ive tried to find the 8x and 3 button wipe but I can't seem to get a straight answer, how do I do it lol?
The 8X reset saved mine. I had to recreate the autonooter image using a 2GB sd card insted of the 8GB I originally used.

The 8X: with the NC turned off, press and hold the Power button until you see some screen activity. Release the button for a few seconds and then press and hold it again until the NC goes completely off. Do this 8 more times and it will boot into a new screen and load the software again.
The 3 Button: Press and hold the power button, volume up button and the N button. The NC will boot into a new screen and all your data will be gone. The SDcard will of course be ok and nothing will be removed from it.
I seem to recall (??) that you need to do the 3 button first and then the 8X. Not totally sure about that, but that's the way I remember it right now.
Good luck.
Thanks I'll let you know how it goes
Ok, so I got it fixed and rooted, got market working and downloaded angry birds and it's working. I was under the impression that you get the android ui but I only have the nook ui (I'd like to use both). Also, how do you install the auto config windows tool?
Thanks

If you are using the NC Launcher, it will not show up until you reboot. You can use a Launcher such as Launcher Pro, Zeam or ADW and it will show up in their app drawers immediately.
If I recall, I unzipped it into a folder and then moved that folder to the same as my adb (c:\android\android-sdk-windows\tools). I then cd to the new folder and then typed the name of the .bat file (autonook??) and the script ran. Hope I didn't leave anything out. This is being typed by a man that can't remember what was for breakfast yesterday!!
Ok I'll try that, how do I get launcher pro to install adb(I've never really used it before on the pc)? I'm used to just using the recovery on my g1 to install rooms ect.

Hey, i'm having an issue with cyanogenmod 7 on my Nook Color. Switched from cupcake because I thought I'd have greater compatibility with apps. Since the change, programs that once worked (e.g. snesoid, beautifu widgets) won't book. Just get hung and ask me if I want to force close. I'm using the tablet tweaks and everything... is this just how it is, or did I mess up somewhere along the line? Thanks.
I can't speak for the specific apps or ROM ur using, but yeah this happens with the occasional app. Remember that u r using an unfinished product. It will get better as CM refines it. Android as a whole is a buggy system. Its never going to be as functional as something like iOS.
Did you wipe either Cache and/or Data partitions before flashing CM7? Wiping the Data partition will wipe all installed applications and settings, however, it will prevent any weird issues arising from incompatible settings across different ROMs and OS versions.
I don't know about snesoid, but my personal experience is that BW works very well in CM7.

Sounds like something's wrong. My Beautiful Widgets works great. I'd try reinstalling using these instructions:
I have similar problems with both Beautiful Widgets and the XDA app. When I log into the XDA app, it gives me a force close pop up. However, when I use the XDA app without logging in, I don't have any problems.
Which instructions are you referring to in that MASSIVE 100+ page post?
Thanks.

The first post on that page.. That's how I flashed CM7 (pretty standard method, really) and I have no problems with Beautiful Widgets. Haven't tested XDA app. To be honest, I have problems with XDA app on my Droid 1, CM7, so I never use it.
Thanks everyone! I installed following the instructions from wiki.cyanogenmod http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide
I will give it another shot and report back when I do. Right now I've gone back to cupcake, but still having a problem with beautiful widgets- gets stuck on the "loading skins" screen, never loads.
p.s. I *did* wipe the cache and data partitions
"Cupcake"?? I think you mean "Eclair"?
Cupcake was many versions ago, before the Nook existed, and the Nook Color ships with Eclair...
So, I switched to cyanogen, but I couldn't get beautiful widgets or snesoid to run. Trying to revert to factory settings, but every time I try I get stuck on the word ANDROID in blue.
I've tried hard booting 8x, I've tried running the script to change the bootcount but this just gets me to clockworkmod. I try running the factory reset/data wipe option, but it clearly doesn't remove cyanogen. I've also tried sideloading a 1.1 version zip, all to no avail. Any suggestions? Would uninstalling clockworkmod help?
Are you sure you followed the 8-failed-boots method precisely? That really should have brought you back to stock, at least as far as I understand.
http://nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM
I really do think so. It brought me to clockwork recovery instead of the usual factory reset...
Well I'm out of my league (I haven't done this) but it seems there are still ways... You could check out http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...install-cwr-save-root-revert-stock-image.html or do some searches here.
Now I'm stuck on the N sign instead of android... Tried everything in the link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 including the boot partition. No dice. The only way i can get it to boot is to reinstall cyanogen. Is there some trick to uninstalling cyanogen? Any other suggestions out there?
It seems like cyanogen just WON'T WIPE. Even when I format my data, it still loads, despite clockworkmod reporting that it has been formatted. Ideas please!
Check at androidtablets dot net
look for the link about restoring and removing clockwork from an SD card. I'd post the link but I can't yet.

Bummer. Yeah, that's the link. You might want to look in Nookdev too. They oulined a process that was similar, but they said you have to do the image restore AND unregister... though it's been a while since I've looked at it. It might be more helpful. Good luck in getting it back to stock.
This is unfortunate. I had been under the impression it was a LOT easier to get back to stock. (I still bet someone who knows will give you the right guidance.)
Oh well, I guess it's a good argument for using SD card booting exclusively -- I can't wait for a final CM7 SD Card ISO.
Hello all!
New Nook Color owner here. Love the little thing but I'm not sure what to do next!
Ideally I'd like to root it, get the CM7 nightlies on it, and have a generally stable system. There's lots of resources and tutorials on it, but where do I start? What tweaks should I apply? What's the best nightly build so far (one with deep sleep working)? should I install on the emmc or on a class 2 sandisk?
Help would definitely be appreciated.

Starting with the SD card install of CM7 will let you try it without any risks, so try that first. Sandisc Class 2 is fast enough for it, although be aware there will be little lags here and there, particularly in the market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
The biggest problem for some people is writing the image to the card.. If it doesn't boot into CM7, it didn't burn right, period.
I suggest you put both the CM7 nightly and the Google Apps on the SD card for the initial install and it'll install both at the same time. When you get booted and you're setting up your Google Account hit the menu button and you'll be able to connect to wifi, then continue through setup normally.
yup having the right tools is the beginning:
SD cards probably 2 or 3, 4 gb sandisk cards Class-2 or 4
If you plan to move your stock B N to a bootable sandisk card, get an 8 GB one as well.
Then either 16 or 32 gb.
All of these of course sandisk.
You'll need a reader either small one directly for those disks or use a SD adapter.
Thanks for the responses guys. Long-term, would installing to the eMMCbenefit me more than on the SD, speedwise?

I think that if you have very little use for the stock software, which would be basically for the special ebooks that have some interactive aspects. i.e. the little elephant.
Then you might as well emmc the alternative rom.
Now, if you use the nook as a ereader a lot and have a lot of books already and some of them interactive, you have the option of dual boot, boot of the sdcard (either the alt rom, or moving the stock over to the SD card).
It really depends.
I haven't bought any books outside of the ones that came with the nook color and so, I just backed up my stock rom and nandroided it. Eventually, I came to a night where I wanted to let my kids check out elephant story, so I ended up reflashing the stock, pushing the stock over to an SD card, so if I ever need to boot up that book for them, I can do it.
Otherwise I use cm7 for everything I need.
FWIW, full instructions on installing to emmc are here. Don't bother installing Dalingrin's OC kernel though separately, as it is already included with the recent CM7 nightlies.

I have run it from both the eMMC and uSD. I really don't notice a difference.
I run from uSD using verygreen's "size agnostic..." guide now because I really like my stock B&N experience too so I put the stock ROM back on the eMMC. This way I can return it no problems if it needs warranty work...
Btw, putting CM7 on it is not rooting it, you are completely replacing the ROM on it. Rooting means leaving the stock ROM on it, and modifying it to allow for additional apps and marketplaces.

Wrong. CM7 is pre-rooted. Rooting means gaining SU (administrator) privileges. This is used to give you more control and functionality on ANY rom or phone.

the ? i have is does it run Adobe Flash Like Android Phones
I dont get exactly what are you writing, but if you ask if NC runs flash, yes it uses flash normally through the appropriate web browsers, like eg Dolphin.
Sure, you just grab the Flash app from the Market. If you're having trouble with it letting you download, you need to go to Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>Market and uninstall any updates. This will give you anywhere from 10 mins to a couple of hours to install any troublesome apps, before it auto-updates back to the new Market.
I use a hacked version of flash that let's me watch hulu and its pretty smooth compared to any android phone I've used flash on.

Took hours to track down this post, and I'm not even sure if this is the best thread to ask this question, but I am running Phiremod 6.3 and can't get flash to work, as it will not show the download button in the new market. Tried the above, and while that did help me to get flash to start downloading in the old market, the market updates before the download is complete, and then kills my download of flash player 10.3. The closest I've been able to get is 80% download of flash before the market updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use Titanium Backup to uninstall the market update app. The uninstall the update and then try again.

Watch out for 32GB SD-cards. Some do not work right in the nook color. Electronic ghosts and what-not. A 16GB Sandisk class 2 or 4 is advisable.
Two Nook Colors here, one rooted, one stock; both using Sandisk class 4 32GB cards without even an hiccup. I can't imagine a Sandisk branded card ever having issue honestly.
DolphinHD browser seems to work fine with the version of flash on the marketplace. For Opera to work with Hulu though (my preference), you have to follow the directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040971
Install the version attached to the original post and follow the directions on replacing the libflashplayer.so and you should be good to go!
If you just using uSD card as storage, then get one with high-speed (high class rate such Class 10) from any well-known brand.
