I'm getting an error when trying to install it...
"cant open sd card/phiremod-nook-v5.1.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted."
no idea what I'm doing wrong =[
try redownloading it, thats what i did
try redownloading everything and putting it on the root of the card
I'm going from 4.1 to 5.1 would that be a problem? and I've redownloaded like 3 times, all with the same result. =[
Try unzipping it first, I seem to recall that it was zipped up twice...

also when i copy over the unziped "phiremod-nook-v5.1.zip" and i copy it to the SD card, it gives me a popup. "Please insert the Multi-Volume set and click OK to continue"
maybe i should just burn a new SD Card, i have yet to get anything to work on this CWM SD card.
Drill down to the zip file gz > tar > zip.
I used 7zip Freeware to unpack.
Move both the ADW settings file and zip file to card after burning the clockwork image to ur sd card

I had to return my Nook to stock first using stock-1.1.0-CWR which is simple to use.

exactly what i did, and I did a tested and could install other things, but i just cant seem to get the file hosted off of his site to work... maybe it's corrupted now?
edit: also it never starts as a GZ... or atleast the version i have never does,..
About this version I've been wondering, is there any way to turn off those windows and menu transitions? I'd like it back to the way it was.
so what I've done is removed .tar from the name, unzipped, put the .tar at the end again, and unzipped from there. and that gives me a zip file right? using winzip
and that worked, for what ever reason when i was unzipping the GZ it was thinking the result was a zip not a tar, so it wouldnt unzip it more unless i renamed it. thanks for the help!!!

Haha, i found the solution.
Thanks!
Try activisync metod with notebook!
Will do in a sec.
When i have placed it onto MicroSD card it changes name to only Kovsimg, shall i rename it .nbh again?
Hi!
Have you done the Hard Spl first before you can use these Custom Roms?? Read the sticki threads about how it´s done.
I don´t know if this is the problem but you said that you have a orginal danish 6.1 Rom. So just try it out and read the stickies first and then put it on the mem card and with the name kovsimg.nbh.
Good Luck from a swede!

Just try to format the mem card again and then copy over the file kovsimg.nbh to the mem card again. Try this first, if i does´nt work try to update with Custom RUU instead. You know how to do it?

I don't know how to update with custom RUU?
I have just tried on an XP notebook with acticesync. Same problem.

file must be named kovsimg.nbh so Yes you need to keep the extension.
you probably should set up your folders configuration to show file extensions!
Maybe a stupid question, but how do i do that?
Now i have tried all sorts of things like formatting the mem card, and changing the name of the file to .nbh.
But it still looks like the picture...
What i do?
buddy i think that its ur mmc.
it happened to me too it said "no img file found" when i used my 1 GB micro SD card, but worked fine with my 8GB.
I think it was due to my 8GB being Micro SD HC.
Its just a guess this difference did have an effect on my HTC Universal back a year.
Is this the first time ur updating ur rom?
I suggest u get another micro SD HC card, perhaps borrow from ur friend first to see if this really is the issue.
and another thing;
just changing the name of the file doesn't change it into a .nbh file.
if you are using windows, go to the folder >Tools (on top bar)> Folder Options> General Tab> And UNCHECK the box which says "hide extensions of known file types".
Then you rename the file to KOVSIMG.nbh
If you are using VISTA, you would have to go into folder options from the control panel.
And then try again, and lets see if it works.
as said in other place
extract the 7z file
dont rename it..
u can rename the ruu.signed.nbh after extracting it
in windows, look somewhere in control panel, folder options, something like 'hide file extensions of known file types' and uncheck. because, i assume your konvskyimg.nbh file didn't show it's extension ...
Hey all, I'm currently in RA after flashing the recovery image , and I'm trying to install the FRESH rom on there but for some reason when I try to "Flash zip from sdcard" it's telling me "No zip files found." Why is that? I have the whole zip folder placed in the main SD card, so why is it telling me it's not found?

I responded to you on http://GeekFor.Me, but the reason is because RA looks in the root of sdcard, the zips can't be inside of any folders.
So does that mean I have to take out all the individual files and place them directly into the root of the sdcard? Because I just basically copied the download folder and dropped it into the root. Thanks for the reply

You need to leave the files in a .zip, but yea that zip needs to be on the root of the sdcard.
The only file you need to install the rom is fresh-cdma-hero-20d.zip (for fresh rom 2.0d). Any other zips are just addons or tweaks or whatever they may be.

Hmm, I'm on a Mac and maybe it's me but the link I download from gives me an actual folder rather than a zip. And when I rename the folder to a zip, it gives an error. Is there a mirror link to download an actual zip folder?
Boogie when you download it dont opening after it finishes downloading .. just use the finder to navigate to where its at and then copy that to your sd .. when you open it on a mac it will automatically create the extracted folder .. hope this helps ...
Sounds like your using Safari to download it. To make this easier in the future go to Safari > Preferences > General and make sure that "Open safe files after downloading" is NOT check-marked.
Safari is unpacking the zip file for you. The file you want is in your trash bin, drag it to the root of your SD card and that's it..
Ok I'm gonna give it another go. Since I made it all the way through to the RA stage, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to flash the rom is there?
Thanks for all the help everyone I finally got it to flash the FRESH rom, but once I rebooted it, it's still in the "HTC" branded screen. Is it loading? It's not going anywhere but this screen, although I know it's doing something because the animation shine is moving.

After flashing a new ROM, it can take up to 10 minutes or so to load.
Nice Everything is all good! Now my last question is how do I get the removed apps from the ROM back onto here? I actually prefer to have some of those programs back onto the phone.

There is a link in the release notes to download all the removed apk's from Fresh Rom. You will then need to use adb push to push them back to /system/app. Search for how to setup adb on a mac as I honestly don't know.
recently i tried to replace the kernel that came with a version of Phoenix with an updated kernel before flashing, but it did not work out. I simply extracted the original, replaced the zimage, and created a new zip file with the new kernel in the rom, using windows to package the zip. is this what i should do, or is it more complex than this? the flash failed.
Don't extract the rom zip. Use 7zip or similar and open archive, delete the zimage then drag the other kernel zimage in there. Or just flash the rom as is and then flash the kernel.

thanks! that makes sense. can i just do what you said using windows explorer?
7zip is free and handles many more file extension types.
Install it then right click on the file in windows explorer, select 7 zip, then open archive. This allows you to make changes without actually extracting the entire file.

in windows explorer, you can right click and select extract files, but when you double click the zip it appears that it is allowing you to edit the contents without completely unzipping. am i wrong in thinking this?
Perhaps you can do it that way......i just always used 7zip. You will have to try it and see.

I am using winzip. When I right click the zip file it gives me the option to "open" with winzip. When I do it shows me files like windows does. So my question is can I use winzip to replace the file and then close it?
winzip works as well
Hey there =)
I'm a proud owner of a Optimus 2x. I've rooted my phone and flashed the "stock rom" ( From this topic) and downloaded 2 Custom ROMs ( Thisone and another one from a dutch forum).
However, when I go to CWM and do a Backup and complete wipe, when I wan't to flash the rom (as said how to do it in the topics) I get things like this:
"Finding udate package. . .
Opening update package. . .
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (bad)
Toggle signature verification: on/off
Toggle script asserts: on/off
I tried all possible options.
When I got the signature verification ON, then CWM says the signature is not verified
I worked with both V10A and V10B, both don’t work
What do I do wrong?

Try to select zip file from SD Card. If you have renamed the ROM to update.zip this should work fine, if that's the case the update.zip is corrupted.
I’ve already tried that to, doesn’t work. I suppose that a ‘’physical’’ MicroSD means one you can touch, so a real one (I got one and placed the ROMs on the MicroSD). I also tried making the .zip files a ‘’Read Only’’. I just keep getting the same screen that it doesn’t work.
And is there also a difference between a NANDROID backup and the backup I do in CWM?

Yes, you need a physical SD card. See if it gets mounted in CWM. Nandroid backup is the backup you do from the backup/restore menu in CWM.
If you keep getting the same screen you have not selected the zip file that contains the ROM. Your CWM is looking for update.zip that should reside on the root of your physical SD card. If you select choose zip you can navigate to the rom zip file you downloaded.
How can I check if it gets mounted in CWM? I can find the update.zip (I renamed the zip file myself to update.zip) When I check in Astro I go to "sdcard/_ExternalSD" and there is on the root of the external SD the update.zip package..
However, I've done a backup back to the standard rom and now I see the LGE-Version is back to LGP990-V10a. Here are all my specs:
Basebandversion: 1035.21_20110223
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Buildnumber: FRG83G
LGE: LGP990-V10a .
Can you maybe explain to me step by step how I can do a custom rom again? I think I have to start from scratch again?

First off, if you install MCR Fr12 then go and update your baseband to the newest one. Follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008070
Download the MCR Fr12 again to ensure that it's not corrupted, check the MD5 of the zipfile and compare it with the one stated in the first post.
Put the zipfile on the external SD card, no need to rename it.
Reboot into CWM, and (not having my phone here, so maybe I don't remember the exact phrases) advanced menu/toggle signature check off and wipe all data (cache/user/dalvik)
install zip from SD card (not apply update.zip) and navigate to the downloaded rom and press power to select it. This should install MCR Fr12 without problems.
Hope it helps.
Edit: Are you able to browse the SD from CWM ? If not try formatting the SD card in your PC as FAT(32).
I haven't done it this way before, so I'm gonna check it out
And I think I'm able to browse the SD from CWM, because when I do ''Install zip from SD card" i can navigate trough the maps I created and the update file is on the root. I will try this asap ! I hope this works thx
edit: How can I check the MD5 of the zipfile?
The: E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (bad)
can refer to a corrupted update.zip so try and download it again

Well it might refer to a corrupted download
What is the size of the file after you downloaded it?
Also regarding checking MD5 i use a program called HashTab.
It's a a small program that adds a tab when you check a files properties.
EDIT: also that error can also just be it looks for a file called update.zip but can't find it.
In windows you might see the file as update.zip but in reality it's called update.zip.zip and that also courses that error.
If you haven't renamed it, then choose install zip from SD card instead of install update.zip in CWM and then select the file
And still it doesn't work. I've checked the MDA on the file where I downloaded it to, then it's correct. However, as soon as I copy/paste or cut/paste the file to my MicroSD root, the MDA doesn't match anymore. Can that be the reason?
I might have the solution. When I do a full wipe via CWM, the base version goes back to V10a, maybe that is the solution. I will download the file directly to the MicroSD right now. I let you guys know if its working
Edit: omfg, I found out, I think it's working right now. I formatted and mounted the MicroSD via CWM, copied the file to the MicroSD and the MD5 was now still the same. Right at this moment my phone is writing it to the system. So it was probably the MicroSD not correctly formatted or such... Thx for all the help guys

is there any update to this i also get this kind of error/
I have done this every single way taking up 32 hours of my life, time away from my family and time away from my friends.
The 7 files that you are supposed to insert on system/lib are hanging stock and custom roms and I have done everything by the book to make sure that root explorer is in R/W on System and System/Lib...
Root Explorer never asks to replace the files, it just does it automatically in my case.
Are there permissions that I am missing?
what am I doing wrong here?

I just took and unpacked the rom zip and copied them straight into the /system/lib folder then repacked the zip using the store method. then copied that to my sd card and installed through either safestrap or CWM. i am having no problems doing it that way. Don't forget to unpack the zip containing those files then just copy them straight to the /system/lib of the unpacked rom zip.

Store Method??
you mean zipping it up for a flashable zip?
What method do you use for this?
The problem right now is that Root Explorer will not let me unmount, and I suspect that is the reason that the phone hangs on the "M" logo after the copy of the 7 files for the radio.
