[Q] Kernal issue (from a noobie) - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Dream/G1 32b.
Partitioned my SDcard to ext2>3>4
I believe I successfully installed:
Custom MTD (but have no clue what this did or didn't do)
Radio 2.22.28.25 and
SPL/Hboot 1.33.0013d
I had Cyanogen 6.1.0/Android Froyo 2.2.1 on here, but now it doesn't run?
G1 screen in a loop?
I can get back to where I was (thanks to RA Recovery 1.7). But before I go that route I though maybe someone here could tell me what I did wrong?
Have tried restoring CM 6.1.0 and then reflashing 6.1.0 RC1 (like someone else sucessfully did... but that didn't work for me either).
Please help me before I trash what I've done so far.
Thanks in advance!

If you flashed
Radio 2.22.28.25 and
SPL/Hboot 1.33.0013d
you should also read this thread and you would have learned, that you will need a special kernel supporting this radio/SPL combo. A standard kernel will *not* work.
Either you flash a rom which has already an appropriate kernel built in, or you need to flash a 2708-kernel after flashing your rom. You can find an appropriate kernel in the the link I gave you above.

Question - Flashing new ROM

I have a Dream that I Rooted and is running CyanogenMod ROM 4.2.14.1 ROM. I used the Apps2SD, so I can't take the sdcard out. Here are some questions that I have.
First, I'm thinking about trying WG-Build Y BFS - Without Ram Hack R1. Before flashing do I need to uninstall apps2d?
Second, Do I need to wipe my phone before flashing a new/different ROM?
Third, does the "memory hack" simply refer to the flashed Death SPL (Haykuro).
Also, has anyone tried KiNgxKxKlair-Hero-Eclair-v0.6 or heard anything about this ROM?
Phone: DREAM PVT 32B
Rom: CyanogenMod ROM 4.2.14.1
Recovery: CM 1.4 (Cyanogen pimped out recovery image)
SPL: 10.95.3000 (Hard SPL)
Radio: 2.22.19.26i

1. The rom already has apps2sd on it. Simply repartition if you want and rewipe and reflash
2. yes, wipe all.
3. this adds 10mb more ram and 3d games run slower
4. You're using an old recovery, I suggest amon ra 1.5.2, also, you should flash the new radio and spl (haykuro)
5. It's a slow rom and is quite buggy

[Q] How to flash CM 5.0.8 to froyo?

Hi, i recently flashed my Rogers Post 911 updated Dream/G1 to CyanogenMod's 5.0.8 and then i tried to flash the new android 2.2(froyo) but it always get stuck on the ROGERS logo after flashing. What am i doing wrong?
Phone:
G1/Dream
Rogers Post 911 update
32B
3.22.26.17
upgraded from 1.6 to 2.1(CM 5.0.8)
How i tried to flash to Android 2.2:
-boot into Recovery(home+power)
-wipe (all 5 wipes)
-partitioned SD card (32/512/rest)
-flash from zip
i tried these roms(from The Rom Bible) with no success (stuck at ROGERS screen after flashing and reboot):
-SpeedTeam Froyo
-SuperFroyo
i really want Superatmel's rom since ill be able to use Supsetup V6 which looks awesome since it can control swap and a whole bunch of other stuff. SuperUser on CM's rom doesnt do anything the App list is empty too.
anyone?? is it b/c i forgot to do a 'fastboot wipe system -w' thing?
By the 3.x radio version you are using you need to make sure the ROM is EBI1 compatible, or has an EBI1 kernel available you can flash after the ROM.
when i installed cm5.0.8 i flashed the bc-5.0.8-ebi1-signed.zip after the ROM.
if i flash the bc-6.00-ebi1.zip after flashing any of the CM6.00 or superfroyo fastfroyo ROMs, would it work??

Most kernels will only work on the specific mod they were intended for, in this case CM6. Since the other ones are based off that one it might work, but I wouldn't count on it. Try it with CM6 first and make sure that works then experiment. Just remember you have to re-flash the kernel after every new ROM flash.
ok i figured it out.
first i did a 'fastboot erase system -w" then i downloaded the bc-6.00-ebi1.zip and flashed it after i flashed SuperFroyo.
I didnt know that you have to reflash kernels after u flash a rom.. so if i want to try another froyo rom, im gonna need to flash bc-6.00-ebi1.zip again?

Yeah, either Brian Crook's EBI1 kernel or Pershoot's EBI1 kernel. Sometimes, generic 32a kernels will work too. But honestly, I've only had success with Brian Crook's EBI1 and Pershoot's EBI1. On the CM wiki, the CM6 kernel is something something PURE, but when you check About Phone, it's pershoot's.

what is your radio/spl?
also have you flashed many other roms before?
Please using following combination for Radio and SPL. Also note, flash radio first and then SPL otherwise G1 will not boot. Also make sure you have Clockworkmod recovery for CM7. This recovery helps for smooth flashing for CM7.
update_2.22.28.25_S - Radio
hboot0013d-signed - SPL

OK, this might be sorta a strange question, but this looks to be the best place to ask it.
Will the Dream be bootable if you flash only the Radio and SPL, leaving untouched the stock Android 1.6?
While I am a Linux geek, I am new to android and prefer to take things one step at a time. That explains why I have a Rooted dream with Amon RA with the stock 1.6 backed up with nandroid.

never tried, theoretically it should be as if you did a factory reset and you would just use your recovery to replace anything lost. but if you want to be safe maybe someone who has will chime in.
besides the point go ahead and flash a new rom, even if you stick with 1.6 firmware the developers have come out with much superior roms over the stock android. if you want only 1.6 try super d or super csdi
ok so i decided to test this out, updating a g1 to the 2708+ radio/spl and not flashing a new rom -------- stuck on g1 boot screen, hit call+menu+power then hit home to reboot to recovery, reflashed rom and gapps, rebooted, now everything is good as can be, so to answer your question --- yes it appears you need to flash a rom after you update your radio/spl

[Q] Downgrade 2.3.4 to 2.2 or earlier

hello. new to the forum. i've scoured the net for solutions but i haven't found anyt that applied directly to my situation and came here for help.
first off, im a bit new to the android world--being an iphone geek my whole life so here goes.
ive got a htc dream (g1) rooted running 2.3.4
Mod Version is COS-DS i wanted to test out. But i dont care for it and wanted to go back to an earlier version, maybe cyanogen 6.1 but that runs 2.2
i was wondering if it would be as simple as grabbing the 6.1 ROM and flashing it onto my phone from my sd card
my HBOOT version is 1.33.0013d
my Radio version is 2.22.27.08
I had 6.1 on my sd card and flashed the rom because i saw a video of someone else who had the same radio/hboot version as I and it was working so i thought it would be that simple, but when i flashed it i was caught in a bootloop at the G1 Tmobile screen.
Luckily i was able to recover, (i backed up my info using the Clockwork Recovery from Rom Manager)
Any ideas? Any are welcome. And once again my apologies for my blazing noobishness.
CM 6.1 is bootlooping due to your radio/SPL combination. You need a special kernel for this, which needs to be flashed on top on CM 6.1. Terry's kernel from the ezGingerbread thread should worl, I guess.
You can also downgrade your radio/SPL, but I do not suggest so, because you will lose the additional memory provided by that combination.

[Q] rommanager /universal androot v1.6.2 beta 5

Hi guys! so i have a htc t-mobile g1 firmware version 1.6 build number dmd
64. I have installed rom manager and universal androot v1.6.2 beta 5. I rooted phone and flashed clockwork mod recovery. I would like to install a rom.
where do i go from here? Do I have to still downgrade the sofware or can I go right from 1.6 dmd 64 to a rom. the option download a rom does not work,I get message the requested item cannot be found. what are my options? can someone please help me! i am total noob and this is my only phone for now don't wanna screw it up. sorry for long post just trying to be accurate.....thanks.
is the recovery installed?
you went the fast way but it still usually works
power on the phone holding the home button
if your in clockwork recovery then your ok, just flash a rom
the newest roms require more work from you to get them though
see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
yes, it does go into clockwork recovery. i had flashed clockworkmod recovery and backed up current rom in rom manager. i was worried i had to downgrade to rc29 or something like that. do i still have to install radio and danger sp? thank for the help and replying
Most roms you want will require you to
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
so no downgrade? ill install radio and danger spl and try cyanogen6 android 2.2. ill follow the cyanogenmod wiki and try it. well see how it goes......
I wouldn't recomend cm6 with only the danger spl, you be very slow if it boots at all. Try cm5. If you want more you'll need to follow the 2708+ update to get the extra ram hack for roms past 2.1
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I will try cm5 then thanks....I'll post any issues i have..
i was just on cyanogenmod wiki trying to install cm5 and it says clockworkmod is not recomended or safe.it says to please upgrade to aman ra. so confused now
Its only not recommended because amonra is better for the dream, clockwork will work just fine. Also know that cyanogen helped write the code that amonra is based off of. All that said I use amonra and not the biggest fan of clockwork

first of i like to say thank you for taking the time to help.this is what i downloaded so far, radio 2.22.23.02,danger spl,cm5. there is also something called mirror. what is it? and should i download that as well.after downloading this stuff it needs to be put on root of sd card then i should flash each one?
correct, here is the process
have all downloads on root of sd card
root (you did this)
install custom recovery (you id this)
flash radio via recovery (you can test and make sure by powering on w/camera)
flash spl via recovery (same test as radio)
flash rom via recovery
now you are ready to play with cm5!
the mirror is just in case the download link isnt working for you, same file
thank you so much! you are the man really appreciate it bro..worked perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!
