why don't try flashing via Odin?
I did flash it with ODIN. but is it gonna be the same as the original stock ROM? and will Kies allow me to update in the future when a new firmware is available?
Thanks

al long as you flash the official firmware from SamFirmware, yes, you should ! but....for me Kies was never working for this option....maybe because of my location, or maybe because my TAB was supposed to be Mideast version (i bought from Dubai) and I converted to EU version.....
same thing happened with me. i live in the US and i bought my TAB on EBay with the Latin version (P1000N) I guess we're stuck with ODIN now.
BTW how did you convert to EU version? I want mine done too. Thanks

I just download the EU version from here, and I followed the tutorial from bottom of page. in your case I don't know which rom is suitable ....better check first, before you flash....

Yes, download the original firmware from www.samsung-firmwares.com and flash back your original firmware.

extremely easy
you don't even need to go to samsung firmware
just update KIES to re*flash your phone again
just update the registry to show you have the old version and it will automatically tell you to update to the new version

Read the wiki, you might need to enable the Test Mode registry form Kies, you need to also change the registry to show with version model that you want

Hi there guys.
I can't remember whether my SGS had the JF3 firmware out of the box or not. And, since both JM7 and JM8 are not cutting it for me, I'd like to revert back to my phone's stock firmware. Is there a way to find out what the firmware "out of the box" used to be?
Thanks in advance.
europe = JM2 latest stock
Thank you for your reply.
So JM2 is basically the latest non-beta firmware version?
Also, should I use the "usual" method to flash JM2 and should I get the files at samfirmware?
Please bear with me as I am very new to this flashing stuff.
samfirmware is fast and easy
or you can do it via Kies but it's a challenge dealing with Kies as most people can tell you

Kies would not update me past JM1. I flashed an old firmware to my phone and as expected Kies prompted me for a firmware update. Only to JM1 though and after JM1 was installed it said my phone was up to date, idk if this is the same for everyone else just letting you know ...
Is it even possible to "downgrade" by using Kies? Cause I can't seem to get it to work, even with all of the registry hacks described in several threads, here on XDA.
Guess I'll have to use Odin after all...

2 things you can do:
1, Spoof Kies into giving you latest update
2, Flash latest update yourself through Odin. (i prefer this)
Thanks.
But how do that, is there a link i can go to.
What version is your Kies?
Its new one from Samsung 2.0.0.11032_12 if this helps.

As the title states I'm looking to update my wifes phone.
Firstly Im not sure if there is supposed to be a search for update feature like on my Sensation but i cant find one on the phone.
Its still on 2.1 update 1 Eclair DVJH3
Can someone be kind enough to tell me how/where i should look to update the firmware to something more current?
Do i have to root and installed one of the ROMs here or can i update to GB somehow?

Looks like you are on Telstra??
If you are still on the stock ROM and want to stay on stock ROM just use Samsung Kies. No rooting required and does not void warranty

Hi Lexrsk
Yes its a Telstra branded phone.
It doesnt really matter if i put a custom ROM on it as work will give her a new phone if i stuff it up, no questions asked. Its just so slow at the moment.
She was set up on the cloud through work and one thing the cloud people asked her when trying to set up her email on the phone was "Is it a telstra phone?"
Im not sure if they use some sort of telstra program on the phone to assist with setting up email on her phone for use via the cloud. So i dont know if installing a new ROM could screw this up. Any ideas on this?
Thanks again
Hi Lex,
Just wanted to let you know I updated the phone using Kies. Downloads kept crashing but finally got it updated to Gingerbread from Eclair.
Phone was taking over 4mins to start up but now taking less than 50sec also working alot smoother.
Thanks again for the info. I had no idea about that software.
I've being in the same boat, but Kies tells me that my can't be updated the like the rest of the SGS's. Kies can be more of a pain at times.

I'd like to second that! There doesnt appear to be any repository containnig the stock SGS telstra branded firmware (all links I have found have expired). I lost my backup with a hard drive corruption and have been looking for this for a while. Much appreciated if you would share
If you're upgrading from 2.1 to 2.3, a new bootloader has to be flashed as well
