[Q] Weird battery behaviour - calibrating doesn't help? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

The battery drops quickly to 5 %. Often skips levels, such as drops directly from 40 to 20.
If I reboot, the percentage often increases by several levels.
When it has reached 5 %, it stays there for a long time before shutting itself down.
I plug the charger in and it will say 5 % but already after 20-45 min it will say maybe 50 %.
Then I unplug and start the phone, and then it might say 70 % instead of 50.
I use battery monitor widget and have some interesting lines of info from its history attached as a screen shot.
At the top of the screen shot, I started running wifi hotspot (the temperature drops because I placed the phone in the refridgerator so that it wouldn't get so hot).
Notice how it drops from 50 % to 15 % in 10 minutes.
Notice how it then stays at 5 % for more than 90 minutes before shutting itself down.
Notice how it recharges quite quickly, 20 % almost immediately after plugging in and starting up the phone.
I have tried a new battery and I think I even got the entire phone replaced (warranty), but this still happens.
I've tried various calibration techniques and ROMs...
Does this happen to anyone else and does anyone know of a calibration technique that actually helps for this?

Its realy strange u can try to delate date/system/baterystats.bin maybe that help... I got no clue why u phone see diferent voltage every time. Did u change u system recently?

Change the system? I flashed Telus Lite a week or two ago. You're right, I hadn't thought about the voltage going up and down
I have tried deleting that file

Would someone with a Milestone with alright battery life, please upload their batterystats.bin here, so I can try replacing mine with it?

I have this same issue with the battery I bought in amazon. Out just takes 1h to see the high percentage battery drops. The battery calibration does not work.
This Issue not happens with the battery that came with the phone.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

I have the original battery and a battery from ebay, the phone acts the same way with both though.
Would really appreciate it if someone could upload their batterystats.bin
Edit: This is probably gonna need a new thread.

[Q] Unreliable Battery!

Hi
I have noticed when I soft reset my phone the battery drops anywere from 5% up to about 70%! It varies from rom to rom. If i plug it in and softreset it a couple of times the battery goes up to around what it use to be. If it makes a difference I flash roms alot and don't usually install to many applications.
Is this normal at all or is my battery faulty? It's only about 8 months old.
Any ideas? Tips I could try?
Thanks
Imran
you know, i have the same problem when installing, touch x legendary rom, battery is about 96,96% but when i install that rom, battery drops down to 8,7%, i just plug in power for second, and battery jumps to 98%, and then all working fine...
The way phones and other devices display their state of charge (%) isn't always accurate, hence why it jumps back up 5% after plugging it in. I don't think your battery is unreliable, it's just reporting the wrong percent of charge...
I see. Mine is more like 50% so I guess mine is just really wrong! any ideas for fixing this?
Also i have the typical xperia x1 problem were it thinks the headphones are plugged in for the last 4 days. I have plugging and unplugging the headphones in heaps but it doesn't seem to work
Thanks
I have the same problem.
Phone has one year and 8 months.
Wine phone or battery?
I just got exact problem this morning
I agree with comment above, I think it just battery indicator not accurately represented battery state.
I also noticed the problem happened when I get my phone idle for a while
I was just going to start a new thread about this kind of thing. My phone's original battery has run out at anywhere between 0 and 30%... it tends to go for a couple of days if I don't use the phone much. I've tried recalibration and it doesn't really help. I thought that was bad, but I just bought a backup battery and it's even worse... yesterday it went from 100 to 50% over half a day on standby, then I used it for about ten minutes and it just went off! At 50%!
I was only expecting rubbish life from the cheap battery but at least report the charge properly so I have a chance! Old phones could always do it... why can't one that cost hundreds of pounds when it was new?
I take it there's nothing you can really do?

[Q] Fluctuating battery charge

My battery charge fluctuates, sometimes it goes up from 5% to 35%, sometimes it seems depleted (2%) and if I check in 15 minutes it's 10% and so on.
I'm running CM 7.2 and previously Darky ROM 10.2. Since this started happening I've used a couple of the top-rated battery calibration tools, but to no avail.
Any ideas? Is it a hardware problem? Or a driver problem with the custom ROMs? Or something else?
Try the following If you haven't already.
Charge phone until it says it's full.
Discharge until it turns off. Try to turn it on to make sure it's absolutely flat.
Do this again.
Then charge it periodically so that you keep the percentage between the 20 and 90 approximately, and see if it improves.
Repeat first steps.
Wiping battery stats and similar "calibration" has no effect on neither the percentage shown or battery performance.
Sent from horseback.
Thanks for the advice, I'll try it and see what happens. Any ideas to the cause of all this? Also, would buying a new battery help?
I don't really know the reason why this is happening, Li ion batteries can be somewhat of a black arts.
A new one should fix it anyway, and they're very cheap where I live at least

I passed through Same problem when i had updated my mobile to jelly bean for first time. But after 7-8 days fluctuates is decreased from +/-20% to +/- 2%. And fluctuates are gone after 20 days.
So dont worry, just wait for 20 days.
I have a Galaxy Nexus, not rooted, and it does this all day. 80%, 14%, 78%. All in a matter of minutes.
I'm discharging fully then doing a full charge to see if it changes anything.
My Sensation never did this and the apps I have are the same. In fact I've installed less on the Nexus...
same problem
i also have this same problem, check this thread...
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772177
no one gave me the correct cause or solution.i've done everything i can but no luck.if you get any correct cause or solution pls let me know.anyway I am planning to buy a new battery....

[Q] Xperia TX Battery Problem - Using 2 Original Battery

Hi guys, I just want to share with you a problem I encountered using 2 original Sony Battery BA900. I have 2 batteries, both original. Both of them fully charged, 1 battery inserted into my phone and 1 as back-up. After my battery discharged up to 10, 20 or 30%, I will try to change to my back up battery. After changing it, the phone dispalys the same battery charge level with my first one, for example before I removed the first battery, the charge level is 10%, changing into a new one that is fully charged to 100%,it will also show 10%. The battery will continue to drain up to 1% and will stay there for several hours. So that means, the battery is really fully charged but the battery icon shows a wrong level.
However using another local battery (not original from Sony), I will not encounter this problem, meaning after the original battery drained up to 10%, I will change to a locally made battery that is fully charged, it will show 100% on the battery level.
Note that any ROM that I use, Stock or Custom ROMS available for TX, I will encounter the same problem using 2 original batteries.
Is there anybody who encountered the same problem with me? Any suggestions to fix this?
Thanks
I see someone have same issue like this.they call it normal
the way to solve that when you change new battery you have to wait 20-30 sec then put the new battery on.

I tried to do it, but still I'm observing the same problem. I even waited for few minutes before I put the new battery inside my phone. The only way it can show the normal readings of the battery level is when I charge it for a few minutes, if the battery level of the previous battery on my phone is 10%, changing it to a fully charged new battery the phone will also show 10%, after charging it for a few minutes, it will suddenly jump to 100%.
I hope Sony can come up with the fix with this because the unbranded batteries can work really well.
Thanks.
I have the same problem with Mugen Power Battery. I think that the battery meter is not working fine and I hope that Sony can fix it.
my xperia x10 had the same problem a couple of times the battery off instead of a hard way of inserting normal if you want to try

What do you mean? Can you explain it further? Thanks.

Is this weird battery issue happening to you?

Can you guys try this and report back on what happens?
1 - charge battery until green light comes on
2 - while still plugged in, turn the screen on to confirm battery is at 100%
3 - with screen still on (and showing battery at 100%), unplug phone
4 - quickly turn the screen off and back on, and see what the battery says
Most of the time when I do the above, it goes from 100% to a random percentage between 95% and 99%, and it happens even after its been changing all night.
Weird

I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the battery maintenance cycle. Your phone is "done" charging, but instead of overcharging the battery, in depletes it until it gets to a set percent (probably 95) and then charges it back to 99 or 100. This helps the battery last longer, and is why sometimes when you pull it off it says some number less than 100. You just happened to catch it somewhere in the middle of a cycle instead of at the top.

I'm familiar with how that works, but normally it will still show 100% and just deplete quicker until it gets to the low 90's. It's possible that they've changed it so that it now changes to the actual charge instantaneously once unplugged, but that would be different compared to how HTC has done it in the past.
That's all moot though if this only happening to me. That's why I was asking other people to test it - if it happens to everyone then it's probably not a 4.3 bug or a defective battery or something. If it's only happening to me, that's something else entirely. Thanks for the idea though, I hadn't thought of it like that.

That has happened to me on stock rooted since the 4.3 install.
I initially charged to 100, unplugged and watched it go to 95 or so, turned off phone and charged it again until green (at least 20 minutes). I then turned it on, and opened up battery calibrator and calibrated it when it hit 100 percent again (usually 2-3 minutes). This worked for me.

Interesting, maybe I'll try that if it gets too annoying. I'm now leaning towards it being just normal behavior. It's weird though - threw me off.

[Q] Strange problem with the battery indicator !!!

Hi guys, i bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy S Advance... The first phone user was female without any knowledge of update of softwares and stuffs like that... When i bought the phone it was running on Ginger Bread and i update it on official Jelly Bean firmware with kies... After update i noticed that my phone its charging faster than regular, from 20-100 % in one and half hours, it's not that bad isnt it... Phone battery was normal, no fast discharge, and its still normal but there is one problem... For example i use the phone and its acting normaly, i browsing, making calls, etc. when the phone comes under 50 % the battery drops percentage, for example from 46 % drops to 37 %, and after that the battery stays normal till next... I noticed after big drop of 8+ % there is 1 or more smaller 2-3% drops... I really tried everything, calibration, disharge the battery to 0% and recharge to 100%, deactivate apps but nothing worked for me... Did anyone have any idea what may be the reason for this, please let me know... Thank you

How many times did you charged/discharged from 0 to 100%? Indicator has some problems probably. Try to keep it more on charger, like hour-two.

I discharged the phone to 0 and i was charging it to 100 percent through the night, with the phone turned off... I checked the phone after 2 hours and it was at 93 percentage and i let it charge... I fold a sleep and when i woke up this morning i saw that my phone is on 70 percent charge i didnt disconected it i let it charge and after 5 min. i checked the phone again it was on 69 percent charge... That means that the phone is discharging now i disconected it, and the percentage fold from 69 to 65 in a min. and now the battery is acting normally... I made some calls, browse a little bit and played a game on tha phone and there is no fast discharge, the battery is acting properly... Im confused...

You are sure that charger is ok? Try to charge it on USB cable on PC.
