[Q] Gingerbread bootloader on Froyo ROM? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had some issues with the phone (i9000t) not wanting to boot without being plugged in. They first appeared on Doc's ROM (just started one day. Had been working fine for weeks) and persisted even after flashing various stock 2.1 and 2.2 roms.
After I flashed the Gingerbread Beta(samfirmware), the problem went away. After that, I decided to try and flash a 2.2 rom again to see if it would work; it didn't. I'm not too thrilled about the amount of RAM that Gingerbread is using and my battery life is crap, so I'd like to go back to a Froyo rom, but I really don't want to deal with the phone not turning on.
Anyone know if it's possible to flash a Froyo ROM with the Gingerbread bootloader? Even better, anyone know of a fix for this bootloader issue?

I have bootloaders in my stash.
I have flashed them and there was no problem.
Link to my stash in my sig.

Flash a stock rom with Odin, 512 PIT + repartition.
When I have a problem I'm flashing JM9 (2.1 rom) back that way and everything works as intended after that and I can upgrade to any Froyo custom rom error free.
Works great with CM7 too.

Did the 2.2 ROM you flashed over the gingerbread beta have its own bootloader? If not, try flashing a 2.2 ROM that comes with a bootloader. Both XXJPU and ZSJPJ from samfirmware.com come with bootloaders. Try those first.

[Q] Flashing back to stock Rogers from Miui

Hello, I am currently on Miui but I want to flash official Rogers 2.3.3 to get Rogers bootloaders, as i hate flashing AT&T stuff when I don't have an AT&T phone. What is the safest way to return to either 2.1 or 2.2? I have tried returning to stock from an i9000 based rom a long time ago, and ended up bricking so I'm very careful and kinda scared to do it again since I haven't flashed in a while lol I do have a jig now in case things get hairy, but I'd rather be safe then sorry. I do have Heimdall 1.3.0 and a Rogers 2.2 package with everything included, should i just use that?
Use the Rogers package and flash. You don't really have a choice since to go back from CM7 or MIUI you need to repartition your phone.
use the stock roms in my signature. herehttp://bit.ly/eqg4W2
because your are coming from miui / cm7 it is recomended to flash the att one click first then the rogers stock roms
i was on miui for 3 hours yesterday. i HATED it. buggy and iphone phanboy bs.
but i did a nandroid backup before flashing miui, that i restored after by flashing ATT one click, rogers 2.2, talon kernel, then my nandroid backup.
Last time I tried to get off the i9000 rom's I used the at&t one click, and it bricked my phone, it would show an at&t screen for a few seconds and then it would shut off and keep doing that, but I had no download mode or anything, the Heimdall package has the bootloaders and everything in it, isn't it safe just to use that?
Sent from my Miui Cappy with XDA Premium
ive never used heimdall never needed to.
if you had no download mode last time then how is it working now?
it works. everyone has done it. i did it twice yesterday.
ATT one click, 2.2 rogers with odin, flash custom kernel with odin, boot into kernels built in CWM, flash new rom. done,.
Well i ended up making my own jig to get it into download mode and then tried to flash to stock, and my phone's screen turned green, and stayed like that for a while, so I unplugged, pulled the battery, tried it again and it was hardbricked, as in the jig didn't work and nothing else did either, so I sent it into rogers for repair. Plus my phone is a 1010 model, which is why it doesn't play well if the AT&T one click. I don't want to use that. Why must i use odin? does Heimdall not do the exact same thing?

3 button recovery/dl mode?

does this fix still exist? Every link I look on has a dead file link.
AIO toolbox has it. But I would recommend just flashingg I897 Gingerbread bootloaders.
I concur with prbassplayer. I know it's not the link you're asking about, but frankly, there have been a lot of hard bricks on here as a result of trying to use that 3-button fix. If you're planning on staying in the custom rom world, you'll probably be best off to just flash over to a set of Gingerbread bootloaders (depending on the rom you're going for), and not looking back, as the GB bootloaders will fix the 3-button issue as part of their installation.
my story is flash stock 2.1 rogers i896, then miui latest. Use to have the 3 button until I pooched the rom and had to reflash 2.1 and back to miui
I897 GB loaders work with MIUI. I am using them now. Also gives you the flexibility to flash the other GB roms later.

Flashing back to stock question

Hi Everyone,
I have a Rogers Captivate and coming from CM7, I would like to try MIUI. However, I feel like I should restore my phone back to stock before I do so. I've looked into doing it, came across this thread and I just want to double check on my thought process...
I am going to use ODIN3 one-click 2.3.3 (with bootloaders) to restore to Rogers 2.3.3 stock and then flash MIUI afterwards. Is this wrong? Do I need to worry about bootloaders since I have CM7?
Thanks in advance!
If you are on cm7 now, there's no need to go back to stock. Just back up your stuff, do a factory reset and flash MIUI. Bootloaders are not that important on MIUI, but I wouldn't recommend I9000 Bootloaders.
Oh OK, good to know. I'm assuming the only way to get I9000 Bootloaders is to flash a I9000 ROM? If that's the case, I think I'm OK. I think I will still go back to stock. I feel like I need a complete refresh of my phone (peace of mind, haha). Thanks for your help.

[Q]Kies Mini 2.3 upgrade bootoaders

Hi, quick question. Can anyone confirm if the official 2.3.5 update through Kies Mini includes flashing gingerbread bootloaders? Until recently I've only run KB1 roms, but I now have CM7.1.
Briefly, I used Odin3 1-click to go to UCJF6, did a master clear, then used Kies Mini to go from 2.1 to 2.2 then 2.3 as per instructions. After that I went right to CM7.1 with no issues other than the expected bootloop after flashing the speedmod kernel which was resolved by flashing the rom.
BTW, I'm finding CM7.1 as solid and stable as I would ever need. (The main reason I stuck with KB1 releases for so long.) Many thanks to all the developers, maintainers, etc. for keeping the captivate alive.
Yeah to even run a STOCK GB rom you are required GB BL's... It won't boot without it...
And Why do you flash the speedmod on 2.1?! that was changed a long time ago...
Thanks for the reply. I went back to 2.1 because I hadn't come across Odin3 for 2.2. I was actually on 2.3 when I flashed the speedmod (according to what I read it is now safe to go this route.)
Ohh yahh, but you can One click to JF6, then flash the BL only ODIN, then it will reboot to recovery, apply update.zip, and flash from there!
OK, thanks. I'll remember that for future reference. Just wanted to confirm where I was at because apparently there is no straightforward way even through adb of checking your current bootloaders.

New to captivate, need help

OK, so I ran through all the guides and searched through what feels like a thousand posts. Here's my problem. I want to flash ICSSGS. Every guide I've read says I need to flash back to stock 2.1. I'm currently on the UCKK4 GB update. I used ODIN one click to flash back to 2.1, but couldn't get into download mode using any method (excluding JIG). So I used Kies to upgrade back to UCKK4. I can now get into download mode again. Can I just flash the bootloaders and a custom kernel from GB instead of being on Froyo?
No need to flash the bootloaders, you have the gingerbread ones thanks to kies, they work worth EVERYTHING so you do not need to ever flash bootloaders again.aahs i digest you don't, Cause flashing those is the only tine you cab hard brick.
Flash corn kernel with Odin right now on gingerbread, then boot into recovery factory reset and format /system, and flash the ics ROM twice. Bingo bango you're done.
Thanks. I'm just switching from a Sony X10 so things are a little different here. Every guide said start at 2.1 so I didn't think i could flash from GB. I want to try ICS, but the X10 builds are still alphas.

Most of the guides on here are getting dated. But for the Captivate, once you have gingerbread bootloaders you can flash pretty much anything from anything. Exceptions would be Cyanogenmod.

some people have reported that gingerbread bootloaders work with Cyanogenmod
He meant flash from CyanogenMod or any other MTD ROM to BML ROM
Again, thanks for the info. Maybe I'll write an updated guide after I get accustomed to this phone and ODIN. Flashtool for the X10 definitely spoiled me.

I have successfully flashed about 10 roms while having gb boot loader they include 2-3 version of cm7, two version of miui rom , and many more gb boot loader can run any older or newer rom on captivate no need to downgrade bootloader
I'm a quick learner. I just switched over from a Sony X10 that was running a MIUI rom. My wife bought an iPhone so I took over her phone. I'm still learning the ins and outs of the captivate and how it works. I'm loving this phone. It's capable of so much more than the X10. I'm also loving this ICSSGS rom. It's smooth as butter.
