Flashing back to stock question - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone,
I have a Rogers Captivate and coming from CM7, I would like to try MIUI. However, I feel like I should restore my phone back to stock before I do so. I've looked into doing it, came across this thread and I just want to double check on my thought process...
I am going to use ODIN3 one-click 2.3.3 (with bootloaders) to restore to Rogers 2.3.3 stock and then flash MIUI afterwards. Is this wrong? Do I need to worry about bootloaders since I have CM7?
Thanks in advance!

If you are on cm7 now, there's no need to go back to stock. Just back up your stuff, do a factory reset and flash MIUI. Bootloaders are not that important on MIUI, but I wouldn't recommend I9000 Bootloaders.

Oh OK, good to know. I'm assuming the only way to get I9000 Bootloaders is to flash a I9000 ROM? If that's the case, I think I'm OK. I think I will still go back to stock. I feel like I need a complete refresh of my phone (peace of mind, haha). Thanks for your help.

[Q] Gingerbread bootloader on Froyo ROM?

I had some issues with the phone (i9000t) not wanting to boot without being plugged in. They first appeared on Doc's ROM (just started one day. Had been working fine for weeks) and persisted even after flashing various stock 2.1 and 2.2 roms.
After I flashed the Gingerbread Beta(samfirmware), the problem went away. After that, I decided to try and flash a 2.2 rom again to see if it would work; it didn't. I'm not too thrilled about the amount of RAM that Gingerbread is using and my battery life is crap, so I'd like to go back to a Froyo rom, but I really don't want to deal with the phone not turning on.
Anyone know if it's possible to flash a Froyo ROM with the Gingerbread bootloader? Even better, anyone know of a fix for this bootloader issue?

I have bootloaders in my stash.
I have flashed them and there was no problem.
Link to my stash in my sig.
Flash a stock rom with Odin, 512 PIT + repartition.
When I have a problem I'm flashing JM9 (2.1 rom) back that way and everything works as intended after that and I can upgrade to any Froyo custom rom error free.
Works great with CM7 too.
Did the 2.2 ROM you flashed over the gingerbread beta have its own bootloader? If not, try flashing a 2.2 ROM that comes with a bootloader. Both XXJPU and ZSJPJ from samfirmware.com come with bootloaders. Try those first.

May I know why you wanna go back to stock?
You don't need it to flash another GB rom. (just incase you didn't know)
As for going back to stuck, there is ONLY ONE way: Odin3 one click downloader.
i have a feeling this question is going to be asked A LOT!
a search would have lead you to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057343 a new one wasn't really needed
We warn them that GB is not yet ready for prime time, they flash it anyway. They muck up their phone or decide they can't live without a working camera or some other feature, and decide to flash back. Then they want help to get back to stock, but they don't even bother searching for the info that is already in here on how to do it. I say we let them stew in their own laziness.

[Q] DarkyRom 10.2 RE Issues/Question

Hey Guys,
I have a couple of questions in regards to going back to stock from DarkyROM 10.2.
After using 10.2 for about a month now, I have noticed that while the rom is fast, There are quite alot of glitches in my day to day operations. My 3D HD games no longer work smoothly (as they did in 2.3.3 with CWM), the phone will randomly freeze up when using the browser/gallery/calender etc. After multiple re-flashes I am coming to the conclusion that to get back to my original performance I may need to flash a stock JVQ and then mayby just us CF ROOT or something of the like to get CWM access.
My question is, what preparations need to be done before preforming this flash. Also, can the stock files be flashed with ODIN? Also, if anyone has any input on why DARKYROM 10.2 seems to have these issues, please feel free to let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!
Phone Specs:
Samsung Galaxy Vibrant (i9000m)
DarkyRom 10.2 RE -w- KC1 Modem
Only Mod preformed after flashing RE was updating the SMS application to the SGS2 App to restore the chat bubble colors. The issues were present before this update. Did the update through DarkyRom Tool.
If you guys need any more information, just let me know..
Anyone??????
Alright, I'll take this one if no one else will. I too have the i9000m, and have learned all I can about keeping it alive and well. Going back to stock is easy. Go to general and look for the stock firmware thread. You will get instructions there on how to flash with odin. I've never used darky before but I did use CM7 and flashed back no problem. You could also look for Ramad's prerooted roms. I'm running one right now, UGKG3. Works great as I couldn't root it myself.

Hey Dude, Thanks alot for your response! One more question before making the switch....Should the voodoo lag fix that comes with Darky 10.2 be disabled before flashing with Odin back to stock?
If you want to go back to stock ROM. Before flashing disable the lagfix (for safe). You can download the firmware from www.samfirmware.com. and its an odin base installation.
Post your problem in www.darkyrom.com some expert will help you...
Hey guys.
I have flashed stock ROM (2.3.4) via Odin and worked absolutely fine. Didn't need to fiddle with the lagfix or anything. Simply popped phone into DOWNLOAD mode and flashed (with re-partition/wipe and backing up "stuff" beforehand).
The lagfix menu I think, is in the RECOVERY mode in the extended power options menu. I think thats the CWM with the DarkyROM maybe? Either way, you can enable/disable the lagfix in that menu.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Softbrick Returning to Stock, newer build number

Hey guys,
So I recently just got my USB Jig to get my phone out of softbrick (after realizing newer build models cannot use Odin One-click..)
I have a 1107 build, so what can I do to revert it back to stock? Odin won't work for me, and I just want to ultimately flash a custom ROM on it. Should I flash GB bootloaders first or what?
Thank you.
you can use anything except one click for Jf6 by design gears...u can flash GB bootloader...no problems...
Which stock are attempting to return to?
Anything really. I was on ECLAIR before. (On a Rogers phone)
I just want to get out of the soft brick (cellphone--!--computer) to flash MIUI or CM7.
I bricked it by trying to flash the AT&T bootloaders.
Then look through development and pick a stock package. Flash that, then try to apply whatever custom ROM you want. But, if you want GB bootloaders, flash those before flashing MIUI/cm7.
Is there anything I can use to flash stock packages without using Odin? I have a new build number and Oneclick will only brick it again.
How do you feel about Heimdall?
Thank you for your quick responses, I really appreciate it.
I will use this guide to try Heimdall: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113195
Would you have a suggestion on what particular stock ROM I should revert back to? I don't really care for any particular bootloaders at this point in time.

depends what kind of custom rom u want to flash later...
If u want to flash CM7/MIUI, then flash to any stock eclair/froyo or Att GB bootloader...
if u want to flash ATT GB roms, then pick any stock GB bootloader from the sticky thread in development section..I personally used Adam outler's one click heimdell stock to KH3
if u want to flash i9000 based GB roms, then flash i9000 GB bootloaders....
Can I use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266172 to revert back to stock FROYO?
Actually I should try using Heimdall's One-Click Unbrick first..
edit: Heimdall's One-Click does not recognize my phone in Download mode (after plugging in Jig and then plugging it into computer) or in soft-brick screen.
Will proceed to use Heimdall's One-Click Total Stock
edit: seems like Heimdall's One-Click Total Stock doesn't work either. Computer cannot recognize phone. Help please?
edit: Did Total Stock again on a Windows computer, successful flashing!
Heimdall uses different drivers did you install those?

Yup it is all good now. I am now on FROYO now. Going to proceed to try and flash CM7 on it for the first time. Thanks guys!

Rogers tab 7" convert to phone questions

hi all
i picked up a used rogers galaxy tab 7".upgraded to 2.3.3 official via kies.
GT-P1000R
rooted it.
unlocked it.
now i wish to use the phone capabilities and have a few questions.
i see in a couple posts that you no longer have to flash a complete rom, just a modem.
is that info correct?
i see that the jm2 modem seems to work best with the rogers tab,so do i just flash the modem with odin and that gives me the voice capability.
or do i need to flash a complete rom(European)?
also there is no dialer program so where do i get that at?or does it come with the modem flash.
is there a better modem than jm2 for the rogers tab?or the bell i9000 modem?
i am in canada
thanks,jeff

Careful what you flash though, if it's from XDA any ROM should do you okay but Samsung official ROMs may contain locked boot loaders. Catch up on some reading before doing anything.
Also i suggest that you do a complete backup of your tab before flashing anything else so that you could revert back in case of issues. Stock ROGERS firmware is hard to find. And if you do a backup I wouldn't mind a copy of it as long as you keep your personal information out. As a matter of fact, what i am after is a un-rooted fully stock ROGERS ROM. As i have deleted my original backup, and would like to revert completely back to stock, I would be very thankfull if you could help. But none the less you should do a complete backup, something like the roto or nandroid backups.
Try the OVERCOME rom, it's a great place to start as a noob to flashing, they have very detailed tutorials and the ROM is good.
EDIT: And the OVERCOME rom does work with the bell i9000 modem just fine for phone calls. Although the volume on the tab is not the greatest for a speakerphone.

Thanks for the offer. But no need to go through all of that unless you can un root with something like super one click (fast and easy, but I don't think that will work for you). If your tab is still under warranty you might want to learn how to root and unroot and restock and such (its all covered in the forums). Otherwise I don't want you playing with your tab and have a "bad" flash trying to help me out. Do read up in the dev section before you start flashing custom ROMs.
That said if you do feel comfortable flashing and decide to make a backup for yourself I definitely wouldn't mind a copy.

hi
not scared of bricking the tab,i have been flashing samsungs for the last couple years, captivates etc.my last tab i did a supposed gps fix which ended in a bootloop.
i managed to get it back but with a modified 2.2 firmware.then kies would not let me upgrade to 2.3.3(unofficial firmware error)
my problems have always been actually returning to stock.
in recovery i have the orange clockwork recovery that has an option to do factory reset.will this take me back to unrooted and unlocked???
if so consider it done.
i will need direction to do a full backup after that.
jeff
Doing a hard reset will NOT un-root or re-lock your device (as far as I know). The factory reset will clear the data and cache and should not touch the system. You have to un-root your device using the method you rooted it with or something along those lines.
As far as a backup is concerned, creating a system backup has been covered in the forums before. There is plenty of detailed instructions on performing a backuphave a look at the Roto Backup method.
Just picked up a galaxy tab ( rogers )
gt-p1000r
firmware 2.2
all stock
no root
no unlock
I would like to "give back" something
for all the HELLp you guys have given via these forums
( i swear all my grey hair started once i dumped my blackberry and went samsung and found this site! )
Anyway
If you are still looking for the a copy of the STOCK system before I start to play...
I will try to figure out how to make a copy for you
