May I know why you wanna go back to stock?
You don't need it to flash another GB rom. (just incase you didn't know)
As for going back to stuck, there is ONLY ONE way: Odin3 one click downloader.
i have a feeling this question is going to be asked A LOT!
a search would have lead you to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057343 a new one wasn't really needed
We warn them that GB is not yet ready for prime time, they flash it anyway. They muck up their phone or decide they can't live without a working camera or some other feature, and decide to flash back. Then they want help to get back to stock, but they don't even bother searching for the info that is already in here on how to do it. I say we let them stew in their own laziness.

I was having trouble searching using the stock browser so I just created a new thread. Is there a way to flash to stock using cwm for people who want to flash a new rom but aren't at their computer?
No only Odin. Questions go in Q & A
I find it hard to believe that there is no way to flash to stock from CWM. There has to be a way to make JH6 or something like that into a ROM that I can flash. Some way to restore to out of the box condition without a computer. I hate talking like this because I dont develope anything, and thinking that it is easy is quite nieve.

Bad information! You have to search Development thread a bit, it's been awhile so the answer is buried. It's not JF6 but close enough.

I am newbie to Android. So, please bear with my questions below. I used to own an iphone before, and when you reloaded the OS that you get from Apple you know it is the original. With Android it is little different.
I rooted my captivate and now I need to return it to AT&T. Need to load the original ROM.
I did download Odin 1 Click for android 2.1 AT&T Stock ROM? How do I know that it is the actual ROM AT&T/Samsung had put on the Captivate?
There are so many ROMS everybody is putting it out there...just wanted to be sure. I know AT&T or Samsung just don't give out the ROM.
If I have posted this in the wrong forum, please let me know.
Thanks
There is a question and answer section for these posts and it is the stock rom, that's what the thread says. Just read how to use and watch the videos if you're having trouble.
If it says stock it *should* be stock. And since it's Odin one click to stock you should be safe.
Sent from my Captivate
Look up your build number. If 1010 our higher jf6 iud not such and I would avoid odin one click
Is under battery
It is 1008.
But how do you get the Android 2.1 Stock ROM ?? AT&T or Samsung don't give it out. Am I missing something here.
As I said earlier for iphone you could the get ios file from Apple.
Odin injects the stock rom back into your phone
you need to be in down load mode
Open odin
Pull bat, sim, and ext sd
Put bat back in
Hold volume up and down
While holding plug usb
Should have android with shovel on screen.
A box in odin should turn yellow
Click start, watch the magic
Correct odin. Stock for the captivate is jf6

But how do you get the Android 2.1 Stock ROM ?? AT&T or Samsung don't give it out.
I am asking once again the same question as nobody is really answering to the question.Sorry about that.
Android is open source. All official software releases are out there.
What are you looking to do, you are not being clear
All I wanted to make sure is that I get the CORRECT ROM to put it back on my Captivate before I return it to AT&T.
Thanks
hmm so when you are told that the odin one click program flashes jf6 stock software (includes all at&t bloat ware) you continue to ask the same question. Good luck
I believe the stock 2.1 rom is embedded inside Odin so when you flash it returns to stock. There is no need to search for the stock 2.1 rom.
please correct me if Im wrong...I'm learning too..
Read the odin thread. Please if you have questions, post in q&a.

This is correct. I HIGHLY advise you to search for Connexions "how to" videos. It shows you how to use odin to return to stock. So easy, a caveman could do it.
Look here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
However, I have to ask the OP this: you mentioned that you rooted your phone, but did you flash to a different ROM? If you didn't flash to a different ROM, all you have to do is to unroot your phone and you're set to go.
LOL I think what the OP is trying to ask is this:
How do we know that Odin is using the correct, stock ROM directly from Samsung/ATT, so that when he flashes the phone with Odin and sends it back to AT&T, they don't tell him hes got the wrong software on it and void the warranty.

I'm so happy that you found it necessary to flame the thread for an answer.
Relax man.
It's natural to be concerned about voiding the warranty. Nobody wants to shell out $$ for a new phone, right? The bottom line is this, numerous people on this forum have done far worse than rooting their phone and have returned it successfully for a replacement (like bricking it). So take a deep breath, and follow some of the good advice given already to either:
A) unroot your phone (look around you'll find how)
B) flash the stock ROM that's out there in numerous locations
then send the sucker back.
But a bit of logic will show that the 3 minutes gave you the WRONG answer.
IF the Odin program had the stock rom we would not have had issues like loss of 3 button recovery on some phones after using Odin. We also would not have 2 versions of Odin. (1 specifically to address the 3 button recovery issue). You also would still be able to perform an OTA update after using Odin, which once again, most if not all the Odin flashed phones are incapable of.
Odin MIGHT have A stock Rom, in which case Samsung/ATT are using more than one, but it does not have THE stock ROM.
Now if the concern is just to get it close enough to return the phone, the guys at the exchange desk don't know enough about the phone to tell the difference.

Hi everyone' It maybe a stupid question, but i could not find a definite answer. I'm getting my Captivate exchanged due to shutdown problems. Most likely the new one will come with 2.2. If i install custom rom and later want to change it to a different one, can i use Odin to go to 2.1 or i need to go to 2.2? Sorry again if the question is stupid but being a noob i want to make sure not to brick the phone.
Thanks
There are manyy threads that answer this question. Short answer is that going back to stock or flashing a ROM from 2.2 is not as easy as it was on 2.1. There are problems with the new 3e recovery and finding the right Odin to flash with. Do some searches, read some stickies and do your homework. The answers are already in here.

So basically i can't just flush a custom rom over 2.2 and than use Odin to flush to 2.1?
No you can't 3e recovery wont let you flash a rom. Usin Odin flash a kernel that has clockwork mod. Hardcore Speed Mod is good choice, after that you just need to place the rom on your SD card and will be able to flash.
it is still easy. before flashing fix 3e recovery.
dont flash with odin one click to stock (2.1) if going back to stock flash 2.2 with non one click...
Got It. Thanks Everyone for your responces. I'm thinking of keeping my phone and sending the replacement back. I can put up with ocasional shutdown so i can play with custom roms with ease of 2.1. What are the chances of replacement be 2.1?

I actually took my captivate to a warranty store 4 weeks ago, got a new phone and it was on 2.1. Not sure when they send you one through the mail.

Just because new phone has 2.2 doesn't mean you CAN'T flash new roms. It just means you may have 1 or 2 extra steps than before. Just flash it back to 2.1 with odin(not one click), install cwm, and flash away. If a warranty issue comes up, flash back to 2.1, then upgrade to 2.2 through kies.

Hi Everyone,
I have a Rogers Captivate and coming from CM7, I would like to try MIUI. However, I feel like I should restore my phone back to stock before I do so. I've looked into doing it, came across this thread and I just want to double check on my thought process...
I am going to use ODIN3 one-click 2.3.3 (with bootloaders) to restore to Rogers 2.3.3 stock and then flash MIUI afterwards. Is this wrong? Do I need to worry about bootloaders since I have CM7?
Thanks in advance!
If you are on cm7 now, there's no need to go back to stock. Just back up your stuff, do a factory reset and flash MIUI. Bootloaders are not that important on MIUI, but I wouldn't recommend I9000 Bootloaders.
Oh OK, good to know. I'm assuming the only way to get I9000 Bootloaders is to flash a I9000 ROM? If that's the case, I think I'm OK. I think I will still go back to stock. I feel like I need a complete refresh of my phone (peace of mind, haha). Thanks for your help.
After reading the frankly scary things that the leaked ICS kernels can do to the Note, I want to go back to Gingerbread.
I'm currently on ICS Stunner 1.4.19. What is the safest way to go back to Gingerbread without bricking my phone?
Flash any stock gb rom via pc odin.
Pls look here if you dont know how:

Sorry mate, but the easiest answer will be: use the search function! not because I´m a douche, but more because there are a BUNCH of other threads with even the same title

You can choose one.what you prefer.
I was on Stunner too. then disregarded the warnings and flashed Alba using the leaked kernel. I was lucky and no brick. to be safe, i installed Dafuq kernel (I think you really should, NOW).
then i decided enough of all these testing ROMs, i went back to recovery, installed abyss4.2redpill original logo kernel and flashed Rocketromv22 then v23. now i'm back to GB, safely.
so either you install the abyssnote4.2 kernel and flash your GB firmware, or if you really want to be on the SAFEST ROUTE, pc odin the stock GB and start from that.
Download AbyssNote 4.2, open the zip file and extract the zImage file. Put this on your Note and flash it with Mobile Odin. To my knowledge Mobile Odin uses it's own kernel to flash so there's no risk of bricking.
When Abyss is flashed, reboot into recovery, wipe data/cache/Dalvik and you're all set to flash any custom GB rom.
Lol me2 i scared when i see this post " ics leak brick phone " :S
and im do all that step to brick phone :S wipe in CWM when i was in ice cream sandwitch but im lucky and my phone not brick but it's always freeze :S and i want to know if my phone got damage .. the phone will complatly dead ? or got some issue or nothing ?

Perhaps it´s my lack of language skills...but as I said: It wasn´t my intention to play the douchemaster here...sorry if it was the case (not including the link above, it´s not meant that serious!)
But mate, just check this out:

Of course, what I am doing here is just ridiculous...posting an answer to your question that doesn´t bring you anything instead of just answering your question. It IS like the old frustrated man yelling at someone who´s stepping on his grass.
But mate, believe me...a few months or years later from now...YOU will be the one, writing similar posts like mine to other newbies
