I am happy to say this. I am disappointed with the HTC Kaiser very much. I was expecting something more.
Instead I think that something more can be satisfied with O2 XDA Flame.
That is why I am sending my HTC Kaiser to my uncle and getting an O2 XDA Flame on Monday. I am all about performance and size. And O2 XDA Flame completely outcasts HTC Kaiser even in terms of price.
What do you all think?

if your talking about graphics and gaming, you will find the flame exactly the same or maybe even worse, who knows..
if you were trying to play games and they were slow it's cuz they probably dont support the kaiser's chip. all it needs is GDI or OpenGL to work. I think the Kaiser actually supports more than the flame does atm.

Well I need help deciding. I dont want to keep like 10 devices. I want one device. The perfect best in performance. Has the best Techinical detail and parts.
Which should i choose.
O2 XDA Flame,
HTC Athena or
HTC Kaiser.
I have already tried out HTC Athena and I have the HTC Kaiser in my hand. So i will pretty much understand all advise you all shall offer.
i had flame before kaiser. i like kaiser much better over my flame. first of all, the size is much more realistic nowadays. kaiser is much easier to put in pants pocket or jacket pocket compare to flame although the weight is quite the same. second, flame doesnt have GPS non 3.0 camera. WM6 is more stable. Flame has better gfx and bigger screen for sure. i will pick kaiser over flame for sure anytime. eric
For me,
Flame :
- Is bigger compared to Kaiser, not fit in my pocket
- Does not have GPS (and I like to have 1 device for all if possible)
- Camera is not 3MP
- Battery drain is worse
More info check out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305686
Kaiser:
- Right size
- GPS is nice and working fine
- Camera is 3MP
- Battery is good
Does Flame run WM 6 Pro? If not, too bad ...
Screen? Hmm it is nice to have 3.5 but I am not sure about the quality.
Seriously, what kind of applications do you want to run that require heavy CPU power?
I found Kaiser is not that slow and I have no complain for my day-to-day usage
Yes Kaiser is not that slow. hehe. And when those huge microSDHC cards come we will be somewhere on equal grounds with XDA Flames storage. It has the same CPU as Universal. So that is pretty good cause the CPU is nice and fast. For battery I dont care much.
I love that GPU though. Also I love VGA display more then QVGA. I think it is perfect device for me for watching video and gaming. Its worth a try.

VGA is good. But forget about the Nvidia GPU since no software is optimize for that GPU
Yes. I am still very confused. I have to decide today what to keep. XDA Flame or Kaiser or Athena... which one should i keep :S :S :S :S
Good News! I decided to keep my HTC Kaiser. And go for O2 XDA Flame as well!
And so does anyone know where i can get the O2 XM-02 Infrared Keyboard accessory. It is mainly used with O2 XDA Atom models.

just looking at your sig Why do you need so much phone? i got the htc x7500 and the kaiser and they are enough for me. i got the 6gb card today and kaiser runs well except internet explorer bug.
such a strange comparison...
I see two totally different phones here.
The XDA Flame is large - it makes the TyTN II look small.
The TyTN II has a scroll wheel.
The Flame has a pretty cool looking USB-on-the-go thingie.
Flame has 2mp camera with flash, TyTNII has 3mp autofocus with no flash.
The Flame is UMTS only. Ugh! When I was roaming in India last summer it was painful downloading email and data over UMTS.
The Flame has an FM receiver for music (which it needs because its network connection speed is too slow to stream media).
The Flame has VGA and some advanced graphics chip for which there isn't a lot of custom software yet written. It also has 2G of ROM which is nice.
The TyTN II has GPS, a built-in keyboard (tho you can add to the bulk of the Flame by getting an external one) and neat-o tilt action.
Seems to me you want to compare the XDA Flame to the Toshiba Portégé G900 - they are far more similar in terms of features, and the Toshiba is smaller, has HSDPA and a built-in keyboard, and sports higher resolution than the Flame.
I bought the Kaiser / TyTN II because it has everything in one package.
XDA Flame _ review
I own a XDA flame with wm5. I liked this device, but it has somany bugs. Wireless doesnt work. Contacted O2 and they asked me to do a hard reset but still same problem (Wifi Never worked !!!!).
I think Wifi issue is a common one, i heared same thing from my frnds as well.
Another thing is Operating system get stuck often.
You cant send sms while you are connected with gprs or computer which sucks big time.
But everything else is kindaa cool, its like you are travelling with a pocket media house. Especially USB host facility is really cool
Hopefully they gonna fix it with wm6 upgrade, which they supposed to release couple of months back. I got official reply from o2 that they are still sorting out bugs with wm6. So i dont expect that from next 2 months.
I would advice any one planning to buy Flame to wait till they release wm6.
Ok, ... here we go...
After several years wasting my time trying to modify, tuneup, accellerate, reorganize, customize and personalize my windows mobile devices (Xda Neo, Xda Orbit, Xda Terra) it is time to say goodbye to my one month old Xda Diamond...
It doesnt seem that microsoft will ever accept that their windows mobile is, ... just a windows 1.0 with better optics. no todayscreen replacement, tf3d, tf2d, spb ms, winterface, tochcommander has made things easier, just harder, slower and even more useless.
I thought, wow, as i heard about the new HTC Touch Diamond, waited 1 month for delivery and there it was, my Diamond, wonderful tf3d, opera, gsensor,...
Slow keyboard, Windows Mobile 6.1 (no OS), slow TF3d, slow Email, hard to use interface, and last but not least a (WOW) 900mAh battery, ... that enables me to use my Diamond ONE day! WOW again, and thank you HTC.
A main desire of human being is to cutomize, to PERSONALIZE their phone, to make it YOUR phone! When you look at a diamond you'll see the light breaking into many colors , ... when you look at your diamond you'll see BLACK and WHITE. Customizable STARTSCREEN, wooooooooho with a colorful background wallpaper, thats all.
I was expecting a wonderful , powerful multimedia mobile phone, great gaming capabilities like the iphone or something, ... but, whats there? WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER MOBILE, and OPERA, thats all... a slow camera, a slow HTC Album, a useless Streaming Media Client, MOSTLY unsupported games for NATIVE VGA resolution...

??
I have to wonder why you even considered a diamond tbh..
you should get an iPhone
Nokia 1911 >>>> all
Surely you cant customise an E71 as much as a WM Device anyway?
I had an E71 for a while for work......My only comment on the device is "thank god i have a HTC Device!"
Are there people who hate the tf3d interface who don't realise that you can turn it off and then customise the homescreen on the device more than pretty much any other OS ?
thanks for your replies, ... dont forget please, i'm just sharing my thoughts in non-perfect english. I dont except that everyone thinks what i think.

Really?? You mean my phone shipped with a Hellboy theme that changes all the icons, puts really cool flames all over the clock, superimposes flames over my contacts pictures.... that came with my phone? I really don't think you've looked into this properly.
That said, these phones are for people who are prepared to invest time and effort into them to reap the rewards. It sounds like you have had enough of doing this, which is fine - i'm sure we will all give up one day

my messegae in the upcming weeks would be: ***bye bye my little Diamond - Hello Touch HD***
well well. Nokia is great for phone. HTC = phone = ****. HTC for customize. I like it. Some kind of killing my time to upgrade, check website, upgrade and upgrade until the time I said. I have a life now. Than I'm going to say goodbye HTC.
Again
HTC = phone = **** ( sorry to say that )
HTC = killing my boring time = yes
Hey, It's the same thing I said when I ditched my ROKR E2 and bought an a1200, but then again... I found motorlafans, and couldn't help it... it's too good to be left alone.
Then it came to me that I REALLY needed some good phone for office business (which the A1200 performed well, but lacked wifi and 3G... and syncing was a hassle). When the iPhone came out, I said «nice, pretty... but it doesn't fit my philosophy...» which is customization... not only for themes and etc. but for speed, performance and suiting needs.
I saw the first iPhone killers and said, no way. But then the Diamond appeared: small, nice, useful... then I started researching the Touch (the first one) and discovered this site...
Seeing all the possibilities, I said: What the hell! Let's roll with HTC, the mother and father of 80% of OEM handsets that took a leap and started selling their own stuff, and with great design and TRUE innovation.
BUT, the Touch wouldn't be up to the cut: too much third party apps to make it run like I THOUGHT it should...
XPERIA made its teaser trailers, and I went numb... but it was a promise of long delays, Sony branding and a lot of zeroes on the pricetag.
The Diamond turned into a bliss... beyond all the iPhone wannabes, beyond usability paradigms, I remember thinking «WOW, that's a smart way of arranging a Home Screen, without clutter, with access to all the basics upfront, just like a superphone with a Clark Kent/Superman switch... (in reference to the TouchFlo3D taking all the basics to a new level and letting the powerhorse to sit in the back and enjoy the ride)».
Whence I've got it, I found that the TF3D needed some tweaking. I thought what I always think in such ocations: THIS CAN BE BETTER, SO WHY CAN'T HTC RELEASE IT ALREADY TWEAKED???
But then again, I'm now swapping for a US version, and the rollercoaster will start again... I'm positive that the same tweaked roms can be used with the same efficiency...
Time will tell. . .

now i have to agree on this one, HTC should tweaked some of windows registry before releasing it. for example, didnt they try the device when you try to reply an sms??? you could barely read your own message with that ONE line reply window
average consumer dont know what to do with this kind of problem, all they have in their mind is ''What the hell is this???''
heck we even need an unknown 3rd party app to adjust this small problem.
HTC please TEST your device before releasing it
It might be just mine, cause I use the fonts just one point above the minimum... but mine's got 2 lines... it's easier and the high res screen does a great job rendering minuscule fonts...

'twer it me, It would come down to only two things to decide.
1.) Do I want Windows Mobile or can I deal with Android.
2.) Do I want a slide out keyboard or screen keyboard.
Those would be the only two deciding factors for me. Everything else is either comparable or it not that important to me.
If the Hero comes with HTC Sense., that would sway me towards the Hero. ( WoW , cool, first one on the block factor )
Get both. Problem solved.

I would much rather the hardware keyboard. I have a Kaiser, and while I haven't used another HTC screen keyboard, I have used the one on my son's LG Vu and my wife's iPhone, and I still prefer the hardware keyboard. As does my son, who can't wait for me to upgrade to the TP II so he can inherit my Tilt.

Hi l3v5y
I haven´t used them but thinking on how important is to me the keyboard I´ll go for TP2 with my eyes closed
Cheers,
yeah me too inclined towards hardware keyboard factor
but then you should also consider the qualcomm driver issue if you use the device for heavy multimedia applications
i will choose touch pro 2 for my kind of use
Videos of the Hero show me that it's virtual keyboard is one of the best out there so maybe give it a shot before passing judgment. The Touch HD's onscreen keyboard was mediocre but Finger Keyboard 2.1 solved my issues.

Hehe...
I might have a Hero for sale soon... I might not though... Need to get it sorted out first though.
I like to follow the idea of not judging a book by its cover. For example, I decided an iPhone was not at all worth its sticker price after trying it out off friends. I did enjoy its apps and wanted them so I ended up getting an iPod touch just so I can use those apps. That's why you should try out that phone. If you are truly unsatisfied, then yes go for the TP2. Another phone that seems worth a look is the Samsung Omnia Pro btw. The OLED screen and 800MHz CPU make for attractive options.
Be a happy wm user and get the TP2!
ID rather had a hardware keyboard also after losing my Wing (repairs atm) its kind of a pain using an onscreen keyboard and im using the opal so now hardware keyboard .
Another TP2
WM & Hardware keyboard do it for me
Oh and it just looks awesome
had WM from the 1st orange spv (nov 2002)
now have a hero....got to say try one before you judge it
the phone is.......VERY good
im very happy with my new toy

Orange contracts only have 500mb "unlimited" data...
Need to get a contract organised, but it's looking like I might go towards the Rhodium... Purely because I really like WM at the moment, and like the direction it's going. But, I'll try a Hero if and when I get one, and might love it...
Hey guys and gals,
I've been a long time lurker. I've learned how to do all the crazy and awesome stuff to make these phones make Iphones look like toys. But today my screen started acting all screwy. It doesn't come on at all when its closed, and only sometime when its open. Other times it just gives me a white screen. I watched a video on swapping screens and made sure the ribbons where still plugged in, but no luck.
I had the Light weight win 6.5 rom with m2d and ton of other apps. Such as Kaizer tweaks, SMS bomber (loved that one), SKtoolz, youtube, and alot more. It was a very solid phone. It was 3 years old and still made iphone user jealous.
I'm happy with my tilt, so if anyone knows something i haven't tried please let me know. I'd hate to lose this phone, but I'm not willing to pay $100 for a phone that came out 3 years ago.
So if its time to upgrade what should i get?? I see alot of new phones on the market and I'm completely lost. I would like to have something that is as mod-able and customizable as the tilt and that still makes the iphone users green with envy.
Thanks to all.
And thanks to XDA
Love the site.
Chris
Well my ole tilt is definitely shot.
AT&T only offers the HTC Aria and the HTC Rhodium.
Which one would be my best bet?
I would still like to do the rom swapping and have access to all the cool apps. Will any of the old .cabs that worked for the htc 8925 work on the rhodium?
Thanks in advance.

Well I held out for the HTC Surround. I'm not happy with the OS at all. I think the phone has alot of potential but the wp7 really kills it. Maybe I'm just not used to it. It does play netflix, thats really cool. internet was slow even when hooked up to wifi. Facebook app take awhile to load. Anyway, i'm gonna try out the Captivate.
If i can answer any questions just hit me up.
Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna let wp7 grow abit before i jump on it.

hey there
is there a way to remote control my razr i with my old milestone 2?

I prefer the hardkeys very much to onscreen keys, but they've gone off the market I guess....

Interesting idea, but it's kind of funny... Controlling one phone with another one - makes one of them pointless then, doesn't it?
But I sure wish some manufacturer (preferrably Moto) came back to the hardware keyboard concept and improved upon it. I had the Milestone for a couple of months and having an actual hardware keyboard ROCKS. Especially if your main language of typing has many cases and is highly inflectional, as Serbian (Serbo-Croatian) is...
Should we write to Motorola? Start a petition?

well..we are neighbors, I live in zagreb..so we share the same language, and i couldn't agree more with you - we need physical keyboards back

There were rumours about a new Droid/Milestone last year, but that was it... Nobody from Motorola ever mentioned they will be working on a new qwerty hw keyboard phone.
I've looked into the matter more deeply a couple of months ago and I found many tech bloggers talking about their wishes for a new high-spec'ed qwerty phone, but most seemed to agree that it probably will not happen, since it just became an obsolete idea...somehow. Not sure how at all, since there are MANY of us who want it and yet none of the manufacturers give any attention to it.
If Moto get to it and made a new well-designed and great-spec'ed phone with a slide out keyboard, that would be my next phone 100%. Maybe we should start an online petition to let them know what we think. Anyone interested to attend to it?
Because I really think it's unlikely that they will be announcing a new qwerty phone together with the new Droid line-up this year....
P.S. Edited my previous post to make it more neighbourhood friendly. I may be young (22) but I still find it to be the same language, only two different dialects. But let's not go into any (anti-)nationalism talk...

Yeah, that's more or less what I mean. But more like Airdroid for another droid, with a mirrored screen.
I couldn't use the mile2 for everyday business anymore cause it's too slow (though it works fairly good with the miui rom) , but I thought it might be sufficient just as a remote & mirror function.
A bluetooth keyboard would mean I'd need two devices on the table. My idea was more to use the benefits of the hardkeys when on my way somewhere and leave the razr in the pocket when typing.
Btw. I'm desperately seeking for a reason to still use my miley2 I just can't let go of it....
Probably I'll stick to Motorola forever for some reason I don't really know....

But let's not go into any (anti-)nationalism talk...

hell yeah, I'm in for an online petition.
that would be my next phone too. thanks for sharing your insight!
And everything anti-nationalism is fine if you ask me if it's even worth mentioning here... I think that there's rarely any geek, coder or real hacker by nature who's flying with the right wing :cyclops:

Care to start it, then? Or perhaps we should get someone from the US to start the petition? Motorola is still a US based company, as far as I know... And their two current strongholds are the States and India, if I'm not mistaken. I'm just saying that I'm not sure how much they care for the European market at the moment.
One more thing off topic - is that Gingerbread MIUI you're talking about? Because any post Gingerbread MIUI rom sucked the life out of my Defy, which has the same hw as the M2... Anyway, if you haven't checked out CM11 on the M2 already, maybe you should give it a shot, it worked very good on the Defy.

I use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614328
I think battery life is not bad. Thanks for the hint! I'm going to try out that one!
I was using tezets cm9 nightlies for a while; fast but not very reliable, so I eventually preferd the miui-one, which is totally stable.
Don't know about starting the petition myself; I'm from switzerland, don't know any US-motorola-citizens so far... maybe we'll find someone in the forums?
