Hi Guys,
I have Android 2.2 Nand with cotulua installed on my HD2, working perfectly,
never the less I am looking for a GPS app like Garmin (which I beleive is not yet available for Android, please correct me if I am wrong), I installed Aura Sygic as I somewhere read that it was free... although when starting the app the Aura downloader requested me to choose a map to download, as I am located in Colombia, there are no maps available for download there. so I searched for a sygic map for colombia and downloaded a zip folder, which I decompressed and tried to install the map with no success...
Can someone please recomend a Garmin like GPS app (if not garmin) that works on Android?
thanx in advance for your time
best
Try iGO My Way
Try Waze.
Its free on the market.
For me its working great.
navetel ++++
Do any of these require a data connection or can they be used 'offline'.
Copilot Works fine. Can be use without data connexion
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
iGO also doesn't need internet connection and works perfectly on HD2 Just need to download maps one time for the region you want to use

GPS for android
There is Navigon 2.6.1 available on android - you can download cracked app from various warez sites .Also there is Aura GPS available with full EU coverage
In both system all you need to do is
1.Download app, instal on your android - make sure you have allow other sources ticked in settings
2. Switch on WIFi and open up AUra downloader to download rest of files and required maps
3. Run it and enjoy
That's it
Works perfect
Unfortunaty I cant post links so anyone want a link just PM me
Thanks

Even if you could post links doing so to Warez sites is completely against XDA rules and the quickest way to get yourself revoked.
Thanks Dunc I did't know that - very usefull advice for future. I wouldn't post links to warez sites anyway but to normal file hosting servers such megaupload , rapidshare etc.I just said that there are links on these kind of sites to cracked apps
BTW: Just instaled Aura GPS on my HD2 running AND 2.2.1 Ultimate Droid
It is as smoth as Tom tom ! Much recomended to all people that are looking for great GPS for android !
Im now using copilot and its very good actually having come from tomtom its easy to use.
I can recommend Navigon Select 3.5.4 for Android.
Try AURA.

Is this the Navigon that some ROMS can't handle for example the Gingerbread ROMS because of a broken .so file?
Thanks
Igo 8 for me definately, also quite a few skins for it too.
I use iGO and Navigon, it works great

No there isn't. Those programs which you talk about, and I think of which Bluetooth GPS is one such program, is merely Bluetooth GPS capable. In can talk to a Bluetooth GPS and display that information in that application only
There may even be tracking programs which can use Bluetooth. But there is no way, at the moment, to tell Android to ignore the inbuilt GPS and use an external Bluetooth GPS for the Location Manager service.
In other words, MyTracks, CardioTrainer, Sports Tracker, Google Maps etc, they can't be made to listen to a Bluetooth GPS.
Well, unless someone wants to rewrite libgps.so using Bluetooth GPS as inspiration.
If you wanted to go one further and decompile the current libgps.so so you could have the choice between inbuilt GPS and Bluetooth GPS, be my guest.

I've performed the updates to my G Tablet as described in the superthread which are great! I've moved on to trying to install PnPlay but it's not available in what I can see in the Market. It looks like I could install it through AppBrain, but the AppBrain app is not available in what I can see in the market either. I can't find the .apk anywhere else.
Can someone please provide a suggestion for how I can install AppBrain?
Thanks!
Check out my thread on the full market fix in GTablet Android Development. I see AppBrain in my market now.

Have you done the market fix? It will show up in the market after that. Search for titanium in the market. If you don't see that either you need to do the market fix to fill it up.
Thanks for the tip. Followed instructions in this thread for Market fix and it worked like a champ.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845175
A couple points.
1. Doing the market fix will give you a lot of apps but, depending on your ROM, you may still be missing some apps.
2. AppBrain helps you search whats on the market. However, if you cannot see a program in the market AppBrain isn't going to be able to install it.
Hey Swift. That's not necessarily true.
With AppBrain and Fast Web Installer enabled, I was able to download apps like VPlayer that didn't show up on my marketplace.

hello,
i was woundering witch is the best navigation system for my phone.
I tried navigon but this app keeps crashing. Is there a free good working navigation app for my phone ?
I prfer no ineternet connection only gps
Tnx
I can't think of any free offline navigation program right now.
But I love Sygic.
Perhaps I think Google maps is the best, furthermore, nw Google maps support cached maps, you're able to load the maps and save it first for yr offline navigation

I have tried
Sygic (Aura) - still the best but better use with bluetooth gps if driving
Copilot - better accuracy but interface and controls are not so fun.
Waze - it is fun if you have lost of friends with smartphones around
Google Nav - is nice then you are walking (but not even comparable to Sygic as it is superb for visiting new places). Anyway I use google maps for informational purposes only.
Navigon - once tried but deleted very quickly - did not find its place between copilot and Sygic
Navfree - not worth even downloading
you could give Igo a shot.
Sygic wins, no need for external gps. I'm a delivery driver and use this on my phone all day, no problems. I use to get drop outs on Cyanogenmod.

There's a particular detail about this, in the Google blog:
"This download stores only the base map tiles and the landmarks on the map, so you still need a data connection to see satellite view and 3D buildings, search for Places and get directions."

Use Navigon MobileNavigator Europe v4.0.1, probably you have tried with version 4.0.0. For 4.0.1 you don't need internet connection or rooted phone.
On my DHD i have: Navigon 4.0.1, iGO MyWay v8.4.3.179971, Sygic GPS Navigation v11.2.5 and CoPilot Live Europe Full v 9.1.0.161 only for rooted phones and all works without a problem.
IGO working 100 % .
I am using both Sygic and iGo... both work perfect in my DHD.
In Malaysia the best would be Papago X8, got every details on even the most remote area here.

google navigation
I like navigon, got it free with my phone and brings me where I want to go!
I live in EU and before I rooted my DHD, I bought premium navigation which comes with phone. Travelled to Eastern Europe, London and Croatia (ex Yugoslavian country) and it guide me perfetcly. Thanks to this navigation which I still do not know the name of the application, and thanks to social networks, I drove directly to my internet's friend's house on numerous occasions.
---------- Post added at 02:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:59 PM ----------
I would ask you If anyone knows how is this stock HTC navigation called. Which firm is behind it? In App drawer it is called just "Locations."
So when I rooted my phone I stick to ROMs which are "derivates" to stock DHD roms. Like ARHD.
If anyone of you could tell me which navigation it is I would be immensely happy.
The default navigation application from google is not working. Is there any way to sync mapmyindia offline maps with google navigation or any other navigation software.?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429126&highlight=google+maps
why waste money on map my India when you can use google navigation for free.. its not officially out try but the modded version from the above link will work fine, I am yet to find any bugs.
I use this often when I go to India. the map's got way more details than mmi .
I find the online maps a lot delaying . If only we could synchronize offline maps it would be much better. Any help regarding this ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Well if you go to google maps settings, in the labs there is an option called precache map. So if you cache your route via wifi before your journey the maps will load fast and you won't lose precious mobile data.
So what do you say ?
google navigation is fantastic the rerouting feature works like a charm
And outside the cities mapmyindia hardly has any coverage
Pls give it a try and I am sure you won't go back to mapmyindia.
(unless of course you are an undercover map my India employee here for info )
If you want offline navigation
Sygic is working fine. on both gingerbread and ICS.
Navigon, Ndrive and Map my india also working fine on Gingerbread, but didn,t tried on ICS. (I always prefer google and sometime Sygic)
Im going off on a long toad trip tomorrow. Will check and post back comments. Thanks again for help.
Note : was using sygic for bada and hence was asking bout it. ;-);-)

I have faced the same issue to fix it just install this fix
http://www.paranoid-rom.com/index.php?dir=&file=gapps-hybrid.zip
have a nice nagavation
I can't get it to work either with CM9 on an epic 4g (not touch).
I also have absolutely no idea how to install that paranoid thing...
I was able to install an older version, and it ran and the menus worked, but when it tried to show a map of any kind it would just stick there unless I hit the menu button to go back into the menus.
Any ideas?
Google Framework will solve your problem.
It's because your phone do not have google service framework which i guess Sygic 11.2.6 rely on it to acquire GPS signal. Latest Sygic version 12.x.x seems to fix this bug of crashing if no google framework available.
The easiest way to test whether ur phone has google framework is: Launch google maps, then trying to go to it's setting menu, maps will crash. Another way is that if you installed Google Play, it will never work without google framework.
The fix is to install google framework and if you are on 4.0.4, search/download gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip on internet and follow guides to flash it onto your phone, then you will be fine. It's quite easy and no risk at all.

I have found the gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip file on the net and downloaded it.
I put this folder in the main directory of the tablet, but still it does not work.
I fear I may be placing the files in the wrong location? Is there a correct place I should put them that would trigger the program to work?
I was also unable to find the pps-hybrid zip...maybe that is what I need?
Sorry for my nuisance, but I am very raw on android, as this is my first use of a tablet.
Hoping someone may be able to assist me?
Thanks.......

hi,
I have found a solution of the sygic crash problem everytime it is started.
Just follow this:
Just before starting the sygic, switch on the wifi on your device (doesnt matter whether you have a wifi network in range or not) then switch on sygic (11.2.5 or 11.2.6) it should run normally now.
It has worked for me, I am using ICS 4.0.3. everytime after reboot this has to be done once, after that you can switch off wifi and restart sygic any no. of times. let me know if this works for u.
