I got a friend an N1 and now it has a massive amount of dust accumulating under the screen. Has anyone dealt with this on their N1 and resolved the issue?

I bought it used and the warranty sticker was gone.
If you search back in the archives from when the N1 was released.. A lot of people had this issue with early batches.. I think most sent theirs back to HTC.. (I was one of the lucky ones with no dust from the phones shipped on release day) There may have been some who removed the digitizer to clean the dust out.. (which is an option)

I just dropped my phone. Smashed the screen. I'm wondering how many people have attempted to get the screen fixed for how much. Or if I should do it myself.
Such a bummer. Still owe 200$ on it to.

either use insurance or contact htc for repairs. i hear htc is actually pretty cool about it and doesn't charge a whole lot

I replaced my digitizer screen. It wasn't that complicated but it does take time.
I recommend parts4repair.com they sell parts for all brands of smart/superphones out there right now. I broke the screen on my Incredible S, well the digitizer. Got a new one for $20 CAD. replaced it myself (did take a month to ship) and was good to go. Parts were great, got a little tool kit with all the wee torx bits. Check it out!
Ii already voided warranty with s-off
There's a guy in my city that will replace digitizer for 90 can or 130 if LCD is cracked also.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
He says it will take 1-3 business days. I assume cuz he has to get the part

I work at a repairshop and I have done several digitizer replacements on the VIVID, its a little tricky since you will have to lift up the upper part of the LCD, or remove the LCD entirely. Doing so increases the chance of you breaking the LCD and then you will have to replace both screens. If you dont have a good heat gun and the right tools, you should take it to someone with experience.
I watched a tear down. While a probably could do it. I think your right. I'll just pay to get it fixed.

HTC quoted me.140.cc for a screen replacement

Yeah Nevermind, screens from the source are expensive. I'm used to seeing small charges from the usb ports dying out of warranty not screen repair

So my girl's droid 3 has been acting up and want to try and get a replacement but she spilled cooking oil on screen and has a dark spot on LCD which happened early March. That did not effect the performance at all but lately its been going nuts. My question is can I get a replacement and not be charged for the the LCD problem even though it didn't effect the performance? Just want to know if anybody here has had the same incident or something similar or even your input would be nice. Thanks In Advance

How dark is the spot you are talking about? Are the performance issues now related to the screen response? Because it kind of sounds like now there are issues with the screen because of the oil incident.. ;]
I had to warranty my D2G awhile back. I declared a few somewhat major cosmetic problems to them as I was a jeweler at the time and had probably damaged it in some way during the course of my work. The problem with my phone had ended up being hardware related and had nothing to do with the damage and so my phone was replaced.
Here's pics of the screen and the problems happened months after the oil spill

But no the problem is that is gets hot and randomly reboots all day everyday the screen works perfectly except for the dark spot on screen

make the background pure black, avoid putting light apps where the dark spot is, and then i would bring it in lol
maybe turn the brightness down a bit also
Well if I turn the light down its too dark and can't see anything where the dark spot is at. But that's not the problem I want to know can i get a replacement to fix the over heating problem and the random reboots that happens frequently. I have no problem with the dark spot on screen

Well if you bring it in and tell them about the spill, they will probably tell you the overheating & rebooting is from that and im pretty sure spills are not covered by the 1 year warranty. And the spill would void the warranty im pretty sure also.
If you have insurance they will replace it though.
You could always go to the store and see if the rep will let you exchange it. You might get a nice one. It's unlikely but withholding info I think is fraud.

Looks like that dark spot is over the cpu... I'd try saying the dark spot was caused by the heating issue and maybe not mention the cooking oil...
^^^^^^^
I second that. Tell them that one day the phone got really hot in her pocket and then this screen dark spot appeared. She had been dealing with it 'til now, but she's finally sick of it since these new issues arose.
I could also try that to just don't want to send the phone in and they open it and see oil inside and they charge me for a whole new device even though it happened months ago. Does anybody know where the water censors are or the only one is in back of phone?

Just go in and they should replace it their if they have any in stock. Or they might offer you a different device.
It doesnt matter if it happened months ago, technically this would VOID your warranty. Like said above your best chance is to bring it in and say the it kept overheating in your pocket since a few months back and started noticing that dark spot.. If they did check the water sensors and they WERE TRIPPED then they wouldnt replace it, because that would void your warranty.
Does anyone know when HTC will ship new batches of the One? The defects (gap and raised screen) will probably be fixed by the time the 2-3 batches are released so does anyone know when they will be shipped? I upgrade in July and am hoping all these problems are gone by then

I didn't want to take the risk of getting the new Microphone set up they have to do because of the lawsuit with Nokia and the company that makes the mics for the one..
But there was word about ramping up production double in May

What defects? Sorry im a bit confused about this thread. I sell these phone and work with them daily and I really havent noticed any kind of physical defect. I'm actually pretty impressed with this device and it's design.

Sometimes they have gaps between the plastic and the aluminum, is it a huge deal? No. My girlfriend's one has a small gap but she doesn't care because she has a case on it anyway.

Yeah sometimes its not a huge deal but a lot of people have been reporting pretty big gaps and the screen not being placed in the right spot. And some are reporting dead pixels

So you never had the One? And you're gonna wait on a "better" batch? I've had two and never had any issues. My first one was stolen.

My entire letter c fell out of my phone ahaha. I have it insured but the rep I talked to a best buy was an ignorant swine and refused to exchange it even though my insurance claims it covers physical defects. I'll probably crack the screen and bring it back to exchange it lol

Best buy is USELESS for literally everything. Thats why I stopped buying anything from them.
Got the same. Oh well. Had the same situation with my previous 3 HTC phones. I'm used to it Also the tri coloured case (double flip), I recently dropped it once and it's already shattered in pieces (and I even didn't drop it that hard lol)

Hmm..but this is way too bad for a smartphone that costs 600eyro..
ohh,its only for one drop, nothing more than this
So like 2 months ago I dropped my m8 and broke the LCD screen. I returned it to a stock Rom and put it back to s on before I sent it back to get fixed. HTC refused to fix it because of "warranty" issues. So does HTC replace broken LCD screens or just cracked glass? Or did they notice my phone had the harken karmen firmware?
Should of taken it to Sprint

Why take it to Sprint when the HTC Advantage program should replace a damaged screen at no cost? Even if he has Total Equipment Protection from Sprint it will still cost $150 to get a replacement device (through Asurion). It would be one thing if his phone had a hardware issue that caused the screen to mess up but his issue was physical damage due to the phone being dropped.
