Storage not prepared error on SC-02B (docomo) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
My phone is an SC-02b (Japanese Docomo version of the I9000)
First off a little history...
I originally purchased the phone here in Tokyo and it was Froyo 2.2.1 build. I used superoneclick root from here on XDA to root the phone and everything worked great
I wanted to try out Darkys Rom so I flashed it with ODIN. Everything was ok with the new Rom except there was no internet connection at all. I did a bit of checking and found out that the Modems are different on my SC-02B the other I9000 versions.
In order to change the Modem I tried flashing Darkys again with the original stock modem (found it here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11614716) This resulted in Odin crashing and I had no choice but to unplug the phone from Odin in the middle of the process.
Stupidly I did not make a backup of my original phone so I used the original firmware above and flashed it back, now my phone is Froyo 2.2
Everything works ok but when I enter recovery mode I get the following error...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
(No such file or directory)
E:install_applications_for_customer: Can't mount H
IDDENSDCARD
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy application failed.
I used Samsung KIES to upgrade the phone to Froyo 2.2.1 but now Superoneclickroot doesn't work anymore, the program simply stops responding at waiting for device (tried all the fixes in the forum threads and in recovery but nothing works so I'm assuming it is because of the error above)
For now I simply went back to the original Froyo 2.2 and rooted with Z4 Root but I would really like to fix the problem and be able to have a rooted phone with Froyo 2.2.1
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Bump... hopefully someone knows how to fix this?

The SC-02B doesn't seem to like custom kernels and roms
I rooted mine on 2.2.1 with superoneclick. My only issue was my AV software was stripping parts of the app so it would not work. I had to disable my AV software and then download and run it. After that it ran perfect.

Thanks very much for the reply.
Thankfully the issue has been resolved... it seems as though when I flashed the initial Rom it screwed up the drives for my phone so I had to go into device manager, uninstall everything and then install the correct drives manually.

[Q] Can't root Bell i9000M

Hey,
First of all, I tried to find the answer tot he problem in the forums before posting but I was unsuccessful.
I am having some trouble rooting my Bell i9000M. It came with Froyo when I recieved it. I tried androot, z4root, and SuperOneClick but they all failed. In my forum research I came across some comment that said z4root does notwork with the UGJK4 version.
I am restricted to 2 computers, a Mac and a laptop running Ubuntu Linux, so it'd be difficult for me to use Kies for anything.
What is my next step in rooting the phone?
I also tried to flash a kernel, which I read I can do without root access usining heimdall but this error occured: unknown required load command 0x80000022.
My phone is able to do into 3-button recovery and download modes.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Alex.
edit: spelling
Upgrade to Jl2 use superoneclick it works.

have done a lot of reading over the last week trying to work out how to root my SGS i9000M, checking both these forums as well as android & phandroid, as well as googling the issue and trying the Market. I've also checked out many youtube videos on this topic but they seem out of date now. I note the most recent thread on here by liv4air (march 2011) but it doesn't really help with my query.
I am a total noob with regard to this - only heard about rooting a couple of weeks ago but I definitely like the idea. My 1st handset had to be replaced due to a sound issue (it had 2.2 Froyo) - was replaced with a handset sourced for Canadian market (linked to Bell - has lots of stock apps from them that are useless to me). I'd like to get rid of them to start with, but this handset is running Eclair 2.1 - didn't realise this for awhile after it was replaced and didn't actually understand the differences between the builds and firmware.
So now i've got GT-i9000M, Eclair.UGJH2
kernel [email protected] #2, firmware version 2.1-update1 (updated via Kies).
I have tried the one click root download which put the 'update.zip' file on my SD but when I tried to install this in the recovery mode (have discovered that I have the download and recovery mode buttons - also totally new to me!) there was a red error message:
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.
Have seen the Ryan ZA OCLF in Market too, but understand that the 'rooting' ability has been removed from that app.
Have downloaded the Odin3 program to maybe try to root it via this method but am confused about how to get kernels/which ones to get...or even if that's what I have to do! can find various kernels etc at SamFirmware but not really sure how to use them.
Am I even close to working out how to root this phone!?
Please help!
Flash EZbase : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991792 with odin. All the instructions you need are over there.
It's a complete, stock rom except for a few modifications (such as root and cwm recovery), you can choose to download froyo or gingerbread depending on what you want to flash next, if you do.
(Froyo is the 2.2 android OS that has more stable custom roms/kernels while Gingerbread is the new 2.3.3)
Also since you're on a i9000m, you may want to flash a "i9000m" modem (with the 850mhz band) found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391 after flashing, but it's not necessary.
Thanks for that link - it looks promising so i'll read through it properly and give it a go soon. I can't query to that forum as it's a development thread but a couple more queries...just want to make sure i don't do anything stupid!
The instructions state: Download all the EZOdin, EZbase CSC, PDA, PHONE and PIT if you do not have Samsung Kies installed, The Samsung USB Drivers will be required to.
Do you know if this means to download ALL those things if I don't have Kies installed, or just PIT if I don't have Kies installed? I do have Kies installed so not sure which of the above I require.
And on the Kies topic, it also states: If Samsung Kies is used please make sure you kill all Samsung Kies related services that are running (kies, tray agent, etc.)
sorry if i'm making you smack your head in disbelief at my ignorance, but does this mean I can use Kies to flash a kernel to my phone (and hence not need the above)...or that when using EZOdin to flash my phone, I need to make sure I have Kies completely shut down during the process?
And I assume by having Kies on my PC, I do not need to download the samsung USB drivers.
Thanks!
What the first sentence means is that you will need the usb drivers if Kies is not installed. There's a period missing I guess.
For the second one, it means you need to close Kies completely before flashing.
Thanks!
Got EZOdin, and the PDA/PHONE/CSC files, but when I click on the EZBase pit file this is all that's written on the page it opens:
v˜4
Edit: don't know why the rest of my post wouldn't complete above, but no luck in downloading the EZOdin.pit file, either at home (or now here at work).
Any thoughts? Reiterating my noob knowledge (or lack thereof) - I assume the .pit file is crucial to the process? Is there anywhere else I get this file, or another .pit file that will suffice?
Maybe i'll do some reading on PIT....
Rooted successfully!
been a bit of a task over the last fortnight trying to work out the ins & outs of rooting, the ways to go about it and to find a method that worked, which i've finally done.
this is really just a post in case anyone in a similar position and feeling as lost as i was along the road to discovery might benefit from how i managed it.
(and this assumes you've already read the many disclaimers out there about bricking your phone, & making sure you do a lot of reading of the threads on this topic)
i ended up using shortfuse superoneclick. got the program from shortfuse.org - v1.9. i downloaded it and ran it with my anitvirus turned off. It worked fine as per the instructions on the website (shortfuse.org) or in the thread here.

Now rooted and have gone and obtained TiB, Terminal Emulator, Wireless Tether and Root Explorer.
Had the speedmod kernel downloaded and was going to try to flash it to my phone via Odin as per the link you provided but wasn't sure if the kernel itself would root my phone and didn't get replies for my query about that.
So...now that i'm rooted you would still recommend flashing the speedmod kernel? I would assume mainly for the benefits of the kernel itself? Any likelihood of problems arising, having already rooted with SuperOneClick?
Thanks for your advice - the speedmod does sound good and have heard many happy reports from users.
yes it would have rooted you hence my suggestions for using it: sorry to have not been more clear
yes the speedmod kernel would be an upgrade over the stock one but my signature indicates what I use now: very fast and outstanding, not available on xda
I was never able to get oneclick to work as it was blocked on my pc, so my solution stemmed from having to find an alternate answer to a problem like yours
its fun once you get started: lots of help, even more opinion!

[Q] Galaxy S software screwed up. How to restore the stock?

Hello,
i've got a serious problem with my galaxy S.
Recently i updated my software of my SGS to 2.2.1 with kies. I was happy for a little while but then i saw darky's rom and i wanted also the Gingerbread look on my phone. I rooted my 2.2.1 using Odin and i installed Clockwork recovery Mod or something like it. After that i flashed Darky's rom on my phone.
It all worked perfectly. But then Yesterday suddenly when i tried to call home my phone wasnt working like it should. And it wouldnt call anybody.
So at home i searched up a stock firmware from samfirmware .com And i flashed it.
Now my phone is all **** because the software force closes and kies doenst work any more. I think i may should have first deinstalled Clockwork mod and unroot?
The only thing i want is to get back to 2.2 or 2.1 Im running vodafone and im from holland don't know if that makes a difference?
Anyways i really hope someone on this forum can help me please.
I just need the stock firmware and everything else like CWM and root of my phone although i cant see superusers anymore in my menu so i think its off?
first of all boot into recovery. do a factory reset/ wipe the cache and also try to format the internal sd card.
secondly boot into download mode and try to flash your stock rom again, do not use re-partition or pit unless you have 3 files (pda, modem, csc), if that completes, let me know what happens after the flash... or PM me if you want to.
Just to add, if you have these problems, you should flash with repartition to make sure that everything will be fixed, but as azzledazzle said, you need all the 3 files to do that.
you knw what a problem is i think ..that i'm not sure im using the right rom to flash with? could you maybe tell me what file i need to flash with? what is the stock for my phone and how can i see it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913 this has all the stock firmwares you need. im not sure which ones come in 3 files. ideally you will be wanting one that also has dbdata... if you cant find it i would suggest flashing darkyys new 9.2
you can flash that thru odin, you can use 512 pit even tho it only has 1 pda file. and it also contains dbdata which will restore the old one incase of corruption or deletion (happened to me yesterday)
when i try to format the sd it says .
E:can't mound /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(device or resource busy)
E:copy_dbdata_media: can't mount SDCARD:
do i need to do anything about this? is it bad?
i would try and flash a rom with dbdata if that doesnt work you could try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905975 or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563298
if that doesnt work i think it may need to go back to samsung i suspect it could be a corrupt sd card... (but i may be wrong)
yes yes YESSS i think it worked really thanks man for the fast help etc. now it boots i flashed it and there are no weird apps or force closes...Only one question left if i want to just root 2.2.1 is there an easy app for it? or do u have a file to just root stock with odin?

It's funny.. I did the exact same thing yesterday, and the same result happened to me. Now I'm dealing with how to unbrick my phone.
easiest way is to flash speedmod kernel thru odin, that gives you root and lagfix (if desired) also some extra tweaks to speed up the phone.
PS: Dont forget the thanks button ---------------------------------------------->>>>>
well maybe this can be some use to u it worked for me i guess only prob is i cannot connect to kies but that's just finding the right firmware
damn man it still is not the right firmware how can i see what firmware i need? the one i got now kies still says it cant update
damn man i still dont have the right firmware how can i see what firmware i need for my phone? its a dutch vodafone branded phone i want 2.2

select the firmware you want from there. dont listen to what kies tells you.

[Q] Need root only for backup

Hello to all,
can anyone please advise, which file should i install that would suit my firmware best !
Model number:GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9000XXJVO
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9000BOJV8-CL273008 root DELL154 #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.BOJV8
I really appreciate if anyone could help me.
Thanks to all
Try the CF-Root kernel.
Sent from hell to take your soul
Thank you, Lunchbox for your fast reply !
But there are many CF-Root-Kernels.
Which one is the right ?
Sorry, but I am a newbie in Kernel-choice....
if you cant be bothered flashing kernels etc here is the the superoneclick method...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuaXu8kusvA
just follow that and you will be rooted, then get titanium backup and do a batch backup
Use CF-Root for the JPO firmaware you have. Each kernel has the firmware extension at the end of its file name.

Superoneclick I have testet, but without success .
Does kernel JPO really fit my kernel JV8 ??
Same problem here.
After updating a t-mobile branded I9000 to 2.3.3 via KIES (including wipe) my programs and settings are gone.
All data has been saved in TitanBackup. Unfortunatly TB needs root.
SOC didn't work, now I'm looking for alternatives.
Heard, that cf-root can fix my prob, but still got following questions:
will cf-root work on my branded galaxy?
which cf-root version do I need?
Screeningsleeper
Is there no solution available ?
As far as I know it is possible to root the Galaxy with the FuguRoot.
One thing that is still missing is the correct Odin flashable stock kernel.
Till now there is no kernel for the I9000BOJV8 available at Samfirmware.
I'll keep looking for the kernel.
Hoping to get a quick solution.

Did anyone have new ideas for rooting the T-Mobile Gingerbread?

Just open Odin, put the tar file as PDA, put the phone in download mode, plug it in, wait for the box under ID:COM to go yellow and the 'added!' message and hit start. It will be done in a few seconds. Install superuser and busybox from the market to see if it works.
Like I said earlier it didn't work right away for me, superuser just FC'd on the first boot. Not sure if it was reflashing or rebooting that fixed it. Just a warning that some tinkering might be required.
OK, Problem solved.

Need root only for backup
Hello xda-developers.com
I need some help according to this title "Need root only for backup" I hope I am here correctly.
My problem is:
The Phone turns automatically off without doing anything.
I started it but it get's in a loading loop.
I don't want to make a reset until I backup the data from my phone contacts, pictures etc...
I read in an other forum that it is posible to flash only the kernel via ODIN CF-ROOT_....
to activate some mounts & storage - usb in recovery. So the PC can use the phone as USB device to copy all data from the phone to the PC. Is this correct?
If yes i will need the correct CF-ROOT for this version below i tryed to find the CF-ROOT for this version but I did not find it for my version. Can you help me please?

[Q] Official Vodafone 2.3.3 issues reboot loop after rooting

Hello All,
I am hoping someone can give me some advice here is my situation.
I was running the official Vodafone 2.2
Yesterday after a long wait they released 2.3.3 so I used KIES to upgrade to this no problems.
Later I decide to root the phone so I can use Titanium backup to restore all my files settings etc.
I used a rooting method flashing with ODIN and the put my phone in to endless reboot loops.
I cleared the cache in the recovery mode and then erased the data partition with no change.
I needed to get the phone going so I flashed 2.3.4 XXJVQ with ODIN and it is working.
I want to go back to the official Vodafone version of 2.3.3 but I can't seem to work out how.
Can anyone please give me some info on how I might do this.
I assume if I could get the official 2.2 vodafone back on the phone the I could use KIES to push the new 2.3.3 but I just cant find that for download any where.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Problem with my Bell i9000M (Needs serious help)

Hi XDA developers,
I'm a newbie. I've been searching posts on xda and still couldn't remedied the problem. I currently have the i9000m from Bell Canada. I upgraded my i9000m to 2.3.3 Gingerbread earlier in Kies. Recently, I've been trying to unlock my phone and without rooting, the best solution seems to be going back to Eclair, so I followed the youtube tutorial by djeddieone and tried to go back to Eclair using Odie. It basically flashes a rom (I suspect that's a T-mobile rom that shouldn't be flashed onto my phone) in Odin. My phone no longer boots and cannot get into recovery mode. (When I try to start the phone, there are random colour dots showing on the screen.) The only mode that works seems to be downloading mode. I think I need to flash a stock rom from bell, but the link on sammobile (i9000ugjk3) seems to be expired and cannot be downloaded. So i'm trying to find alternative ways to see how to remedy this problem.
Thanks in advance.
I highly doubt that Bell will release a new update for the i9000m. You are better finding a newer rom (JVT or newer) and flashing that via Odin. Im using CM9 nightlies (but I feel it has too many bugs for daily use). If you can find a newer rom that is tweaked, you should notice better battery, faster, etc.
Just my $0.02
Hey I had similar issue - tried flashing new firmware w/odin & stuck with download only... I finally went to a Bell store to send it in, but they were able to use new firmware recovery software to re-flash stock gb2.3.3! I just said Kies messed-up the phone... Anyway, it will get you back to stock functionality. Good luck!

Since you can still get into download mode, you're OK.
You can download the UGKG3 ROM files from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Search for UGKG3.
The file is in 7Zip format. If you don't have something to unpack it, get IZArc.
Flash the 3 files and you should be up and running.

After you restore your phone to KG3 via Odin/Download mode per Black Rose's link earlier in this thread, you should be back where you started on KG3.
Then from KG3 ( 2.3.3),
I suggest:
1) Use SuperOneClick to root your phone (SuperOneClick can also UNroot your phone later if you want).
2) Use Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz available on the G-store.
This worked well for me with no problems.
And just for reassurance, NEVER flash a ROM that is not explicitly for the i9000/i9000M to this device.
