INSTALLED Darky's v5.2 Gingerbread Edition VIA CWM AND WHEN START TO BOOT MY SON TURNED IT OFF ,
NOW I CANT GET INTO RECOVERY ONLY DOWNLOAD MODE WORKING HOW TO FIX THAT
had no lagfix before install and flashed the phone before wit diferent roms without any problem
If your phone is able to go into Download mode, you should be fine.
You can use odin to flash stock eclair 2.1 onto your SGS. If you're not too sure how, have a look around the forum and there should be plenty of advice on how to go about it.
If, somehow, you can't find anything, reply here again and I'll see if I can help you out.
I haven't done the same thing but the result is pretty much the same, stuck with a boot loop after installing Bell provided Android 2.2 upgrade. I can now only get into download mode, could you guide me where I can the instruction to load the stock 2.1 firmware that contains the bootloader and where I can download the files so I can try to make it work again. Thanks
Everything you need, you should be able to find on http://www.samfirmware.com , including Odin (the software used for flashing) and some guides.
Be sure to download the firmware for your location ie. Europe, Asia, America.
Read darkys thread. Do the long install. Simple.
Also the first boot with darkys rom takes about ten mins. It says so on install instructions. People panic for no reason because they get impatient
Downloaded the firmware already but it is in a .rar password protected, I am looking for the .tar of the same file I9000UGJH2. Found another site with the .exe but not sure how to use this one with Odin, the exe autoextract, but the file does not contains the .tar file and cannot find the info on how to configure Odin with this. I Will continue my research. Thanks for the info
The password is different depending on which file you downloaded. Go back to samfirmware and see whether the file had a # or ## or neither.
# Pass = samsung-firmwares.com
## Pass = samfirmware.com
Just flash any stock firmware via Odin and you'll be fine.
Thanks all for your assistance, can't wait to leave work and try that.

thanks
i got it working again flashed with odin stock firmware
hi XDA members ..
am kinda new on this stuff "noob".
i bought my sgs (GT I9000) from KSA with (and am not sure) I9000JPJG8 frimware.
the whole story is that i tried to upgrade to froyo but the process didn't when well and odin was stuck. so i ignorantly pulled the usb out, and had that phone->attention-> pc sign. but i was able to get to download mode. later i noticed that i used a I9000M froyo firmware.
anyway, i read through threads about semi-bricked sgs and found that i must reflash again my stock firmware, and that's what i did.
the odin flash is successful and the phone shows the galaxy s startup screen and then that loading sign and the loop starts ( loading sign appears - disappears -appear again ..etc) i pulled out the battery and powered it on to have a Galaxy s startup screen loop also.
i can't get to recovery mode, and here the names of the firmware i used to flash:
I9000JPJG8
I9000JPJPG
I9000JVJPF
I9000UGJH2
i need the firmware to have arabic support so that's why those above where my choices, but i wouldn't mind losing arabic for z sake of my new sgs
sorry if my english is bad
suggestions???!! and thanx in advance
have you been flashing these firmwares with PIT file ??
i think thats whats needed,
try to flash stock eclair 2.2 or froyo 2.2.1 with all 3 files and 512 pit.
i tried all .pit files to no avail...
and what do u mean by eclair 2.2 , isn't it 2.1 ??! and do u mean pit512 , 513 , 803 by the 3 files or what?
thx for replying
edit:
do u recommend certain odin version because i don't know which to use exactly ?
yea sorry i mean eclair 2.1
whenever i have trouble like you, i flash JM1 in all 3 files (phone pda csc ) and 512 pit, with the repartition box in odin checked.
works a treat everytime
i tried it but it stopped in z middle and odin said (FAIL)
have you made sure KIES is closed, even in the icon tray ??
Are you using odin 1.7 ??
also try to connect your phone direct to the motherboard
if it still fails, post me a screenshot of what odin looks like before you press start
oh my .. kies was closed in icon tray but there were some kies related stuff running when i opened the tasked manager. but unfortnately nothing happened , same things are still there.
here z pic , doing the method u mentioned before
h*tp://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/696/odink.png/
right the problem is you are using a firmware compressed into 1 .tar file
remove the pit file - uncheck re partition
remove phone
remove CSC
all you want is OJP_JG9.tar loaded into PDA.
A MAJOR UPDATE ..
while waiting for replies i tried this method in this post using eugene froyo :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10498057&postcount=14
suprisingly my phone now changed to vibrant on start-up and has z following :
froyo 2.2
baseband T959UVJK2
kernel 2.6.32.9
now that it is alive .. can i shift to z froyo 2.2 with arabic support or do u suggest that i stick to it ?
i think i'll change since everything is messed up ..
vol. buttons are reversed .. music is not played through speaker unless head-phones are used .. numerous apps crashing ..
man am soo confused
you have flashed samsung vibrant on your samsung galaxy
that is why you have these problems !
did you download a GALAXY I9000 ROM ?? if not do so now.
Flash it in odin.
If it comes in 3 files (PDA, Phone, CSC) add 512 PIT and select re-partition
If it comes in 1 .tar file. Load it into PDA and DO NOT USE PIT OR REPARTITION
hit start and done, its so simple.
you really ought to read instructions before you go flashing ROMs.
i really did but it looks like i didn't pay attention to GT I9000/M thing ..
ok thanx for z help and i'll reply back when done with z ROM
i hate to be demanding but can u give me links cause am sick of downloading wrong files ((
www.samfirmware.com
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
so now my phone powers off when connected with usb ... what shall i do ????
can you boot into recovery ? if so do a full factory reset and try again. and try to flash a rom in recovery (if you have 2e)
i have no idea why the phone powers off with usb.
does it do this in download mode too ??
did you flash a stock rom ?? if so what rom did you choose
i flashed eugene froyo
should i use I9000 method or vibrant method for recovery ??
i got into recovery when i flshed the vibrant rom back then .. :s
edit: a question , have i lost z root thing when i flashed the vibrant or not ?
first of all enter download mode . Try this method ( press home and volume down and insert the usb conected at pc ) , and flash darky resurection 9.2 or ezrom 2.2.1 , i think both have bootloaders , I prefer ezrom ( saved my phone after CM7 or miui )
I have been through a mess of attempts to root my phone and put it into 2e recovery so I could install custom mods, and ended up with nothing but an old version because I had to flash it on to be able to use it.
I'll try to explain the process.. first I had 2.2 firmware with JPC, was rooted already with superuser and then I tried to flash it into 2e recovery but when it finished the phone booted up, got in the main screen where you swipe the screen to unlock but got stuck there after a couple seconds, started vibrating randomly and shut down.
After that happened I flashed an original i9000 tar on it and it came back to life, unrooted and in JP6.
The first time I tried to flash it into 2e I forgot to run odin as an admin, so I thought that was my mistake so I went ahead and tried it again with a JP6 version and ran odin as admin, but the same exact thing happened... gets stuck in the same place so I flashed the original again.
I'm on a EU Galaxy S I9000 JP6 Froyo.
Anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

flash in PDA using odin.Do NOT check repartition....
Thanks for the reply..
I don't want to make any mistakes, as im quite new to this phone and hacking/updating/putting new **** on it, so can you be a little more clear on the steps to take? I'm obviously going to upgrade to GB...
I can get into download mode fine, do I flash the 512 PIT file and the PDA_XWJVH_Sbl.tar.md5 file together? also just to make absolutely sure because I heard the partition thing can brick my phone, should it be checked for this particular flash?

You should only use the repartition option when flashing a 3 file firmware. You can get them from samfirmware.com. The JVB firmware has all 3 files so I would download it.
Once downloaded open Odin and stick the files in the required fields. Insert your .pit file and select repart.
Once you have booted in to JVB you can then flash JVH using Odin in the PDA field with NO repartition.
Once booted into JVH I would use CF Root kernal to get root access
Go to insanity thread and check out the link to Ezbase rom, its a cinge! Noob too!

Hi guys,
I am flashing my gf's phone and tried to root the phone first. Flashed a 'PDA' file in ODIN as the guide said.
Now my Galaxy S has the BSOD (Black Screen Of Death) logo. I can still go into the Download-mode, so i guess there is no need for panic.
I read a lot of guide's and faq's here at XDA, and I think I am supposed to flash new firmware via ODIN (with a PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC file).
My problem is that all the links to this firmware are down or dead, Argh!
Can you provide me a working link with the right and some advice?
BTW, I flashed my HD2, and HTC Sensation many times before, but I am new to flashing Samsungs.
When you flashed the PIT file I assume that you selected repartition?
The PIT file contains the "Drive" layout when you select repartition it will completely wipe the phone as you have found out.
If the phone is able to boot into download mode you will be able to flash another ROM.
I would suggest Darky's 10.2 as this is a odin flashable ROM and it is based on the Samsung stock ROM's.
If you use Darky's you do not have to root the phone before flashing as Darky's complete ROM includes root standard.
Most of the new custom ROM's do not require root before hand as root is included unless the thread states other wise
Hi,
I have a I9000BVJP4 (FROYO.BVJS4) phone bought in 2011 from Orange in the UK. I was trying to root the bastard to get Jelly Bean on it. I coulddnàt get 4zroot to root it, neither Once Click root method (earlier would not reboot the phone and Titanium said it wasn't rooted anyway and the second just said "failed" when it got to the end of the process).
So I decided to use the CF root method. I downloaded the various cf kernels here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 as I thought I needed to match the JS bit. So I tried JS3 which looped on intial screen the first time. JS5 and JS7 just hang on the first screen. Clearly I can get ODIN 3.07 to upload these kernels so I can get the phone to switch to download mode. THe problem is that it hangs and never boot.
I'm a bit of newbie with this stuff but I understand that as long as i can get into download mode I haven't bricked the beast. THe problem is that I donàt know how to out of this situation. I bet it's just a question of finding the right kernel and uploading with ODIN. Any suggestions? I presume the phone is still unrooted (or maybe not now that I have all these kernels uploaded through ODIN?)
Your help would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
Antonio

Mate,
cheers for this although the XXJVU ROM you suggested didn't work. I decided to give the XXJVT version a go which I downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and I tell you this rocks. I've finally got rotation working again and have got rid of all the crap that Orange installed.
Do you know if Jelly Bean works on the I9000 and how it performs? Is it worth installing on such an "old" device? BTW, I used the same pit file you attached. That did work. Thanks again.

No problem ever . yep, Jellybean works , infact it rocks ! . the stock gingerbread firmware is crap if compared with jellybean . I use cm 10.1 Android 4.2.2 makes my phone butter smooth doesn't matter its quite old though but works like a charm. did you root your phone ? using semaphore kernel ? you have to root it first to install jellybean for XXJVT , here's the link for the kernel :-
http://78.46.194.137/kernels/Semaphore_kernel_JVT_1.9.1.tar
flash it the way i told you , you have to select it in the PDA file option in Odin. hope it works for you now .
