Here we talk about themes and applications for the upcoming Moto Xoom!
Beeen messing with a 7' galaxy tab for the last couple of weeks, and have noticed only one non scalable app that doesn't fit the tablet, and that's engadget.
TweetDeck, and any of the main news and weather apps work and look fantastic. So can;t see why they won't fit 10'
This thing looks awesome already so i cant wait to see what the devs whip up to FURTHER increase the awesome. haha
I was pretty excited to hear Monster Madness ran well on it! Maybe the Sony suite might bring us some other ps3 quality games!
Existing apps in Android Market
Hi guys,
Has anyone seen a video and / or review or anything that shows how existing apps in Android market run on Motorola Xoom or any other 10" + screen size tablet.
kindly share your experience.
Thanks.
SpeedX updated for the Xoom can't wait to see how that plays.

I was wondering if any one has tried the new SPB 3d launcher on their tablet?
I just installed it on my evo and left my tab at home. In the description it says it will not work on tablets but i was just wondering since we are not running honeycomb if it would work. I will try for myself when I get home just wanted to see if anyone beat me to the punch.

anyone know where I can get the tablet version for the 3.0 swype installer? switched browser from desktop to android but it doesn't seem like I'm getting the tablet version but getting the phone version instead. doesn't have the features that the honeycomb version has. also I'm not running an HC rom. not sure if that matters though.
Same here, but I'm also running it on my htc desire. On the desire swype is dark gray. On my tab its light grey. I think the swype installer gives you the version appropriate to your software.

Well, if you're not running honeycomb, there is no way you can install it through the official installer. You can check the different versions by searching swype 3 and your resolution, like HVGA, WVGA, WSVGA and so on.
The app is free already and open to public, so I don't think this is considered illegal.
OK, so I've had a chance to play around with a few Honeycomb tablets at Best Buy now (Xoom, Samsung Galaxy 10.1, Acer Iconia) and it's got me wondering: what's the big fuss about Honeycomb?
Is it all under the skin, APIs and memory managment and stuff? Because honestly, from just the few minutes I spent with those tablets I don't see any real user interface advantages vs. my Nook Color running Phiremod and ADW Pro + Fancy Widgets.
Probably a more streamlined experience for tablets.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
I've been using Honeycomb on my Nook for the past day or two, and the advantages are far more than skin deep. For me, it's all about screen useage. Apps written for Honeycomb take much better advantage of the large screens. The Gmail app alone is almost reason enough for me to want Honeycomb full time. And Twitter apps that are coded for HC can doo stuff like multiple columns, etc.
So on the whole, nothing is vastly different. But the ability of the OS and apps to fill the screen with more useful info, instead of just stretching, is what does it for me.
Also, the browser does bookmark sync to Chrome, which rocks.

You need to really get into the apps to see, it just uses the screen better, for example the email app shows your email list on the left and the email content on the right, the contacts list shows the contact list to the left and the contacts to the right. The main screen can hold more icons and widgets in places while still keeping a easily viewable dpi.
That said HC on the Nook is not ready for primetime yet, so these "better" apps aren't worth the loss of features you get from not running CM7 or similar.
Is there a underlying reason an email/gmail app couldn't be made for gingerbread to look like those on honeycomb. Dolphin HD already uses the screen very well with tabs in the browser. App support is still better in gingerbread for now, and I would love if some core apps simply took advantage of an extra column.

Could they? Sure, by coding it to split. Kaiten does this, it has a custom splitter between the emails and the email body.
But no you can't just force random apps to "act like they're on Honeycomb" as it uses the Fragments UI elements which are ONLY in Honeycomb.

I think you misunderstand him. He means is there a reason Gmail could not be coded to do the same things and look the same on pre-Honeycomb versions. The answer is no, there is no reason you couldn't do that, but because of how Google is handling this they won't release a whole new backwards compatible Gmail app. But if you were talented enough at programming you could make a Froyo our Gingerbread mail app that functions like that.
I can't be positive, but I would guess Google doesn't want to do that because of the fact it would screw up those with low-res phone screens who didn't know not to load *that* Gmail.

Some people just don't want a working Netflix app I guess.
(I would like the HC orientation lock though).
Read again, that is exactly what I said......

I have yet to find a gingerbread/froyo widget that does the email count widget in Honeycomb (" XY emails", in big transparent text).
I liked it, went looking - nada.
But yeah - a great example would be XBMC Remote -- when you pick a video to play, it's hard-coded in "phone" mode, the details screen - takes up about 1/4th the width of my tablet - looks like ****.
The big deal is because that is what they are running..they are not running 2.2 or 2.3 but 3.1 of HC..and since they are running those..does it not make sense to see it improved?
Wondering if there is any project or even - a app i havent found yet - for simple 3D modeling on honeycomb. Something between Chrome "3Dtin" and Google sketchup.
I would love to create some simple 3d projects on my xoom and maybe even animate it...
I would even help to start such a project. although i am not a programmer, i know many 3d software tools, grafics, icons, skins, et cetera...
I would also like to see a version of Google Sketchup for the Xoom. I have used sketchup to convey simple mechanical concepts to others and it would be great to at least be able view the models I have created on my Xoom.
viewing would be nice. But i think there is only a viewer for Autocad. i believe that modeling, needs quite an advanced interface and touchscreen handling, so i am not surprised, that there is no such app.
So where are the volunteers for the honeycomb BLENDER port?
