[Q] How to Add AOSP Lockscreen and Extended Power Menu? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I need a guide on how to do this, I know there are a lot of threads on this, but none of them actually tell you how to do it.
I need a full guide that tells you how to do it, or someone with the precustomised files.
For a 2.3.3 rom, but it should be the same files as 2.3.2, and i know its been done, so if someone can help, I will be very appreciated.

For 2.3.3 I do not know, but for 2.2 successfully done on the instructions with some corrections.
It would be super if someone else has written instructions on how to add a several lock screens (particularly rotary)... I could not understand, no matter how hard they tried.

[Q] Newb with some Qs here

So, I've read a lot about tweaking this phone, but truth be told the more I read the more confused I get. I bought my SGS today but the version that my phone has on it right now is constantly runing the CPU on 100%, which mean my battery get drained pretty fast. I also want my swype to be in slovenian, but slo swype only works on 2.2 so that means i need to change my rom.
I also noticed my phone doesnt do 3 button combo. I'd really appreciate if someone explained in a few words step by step how to get the buttons working, how to flash new rom, how to apply lagfix. The most important are steps in between which people who submit tutorials and guides in dev section dont write about so a nub like me is totally lost and confused.
All help appreciated
First of all:
Swype works on 2.1, Samsung introduced it with 2.1. Not sure if it supports Slovenian but have a look at Settings > Language and Keyboard > Swype
As to how to fix the 3-button combo, this thread, the first posts explains all about it and the steps you need: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
If you want to upgrade to 2.2/XXJPK build follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790686
I don't use any of the lagfixes since I just don't experience the lag so you can skip that part if it doesn't apply to you.

[Q] Froyo to Voodoo..WITHOUT Odin

I have not specifically found this issue anywhere so hopefully when we can find the answer it will help alot of people looking to install Voodoo in the future.
As the name suggests, I need to install the Voodoo lag fix on a Froyo I9000 with minimal risk and hassle as I use my phone for my business so can't be without it for even a day, and don't know enough about the intricacies of the OS to be able to dig myself out of a hole I might get myself into.
So I wanted to check if anyone has done this before, and if it will work/is the right way to go about this. I dont want to use Odin it is too risky IMO.
My phone is currently stock, and unrooted. Is this the correct process?...
NB. Build Number: FROYO.DTJP5, Baseband: I9000DTJP3
1. Root using TGA_gunnman's one-click tool, info on which can be found here: addictivetips dot com /mobile/how-to-root-and-unroot-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-with-a-single-click
2. Install Clockworkmod, further info can be found here: addictivetips dot com /mobile/what-is-clockworkmod-recovery-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide
3. Use CWM to flash voodoo (found here dl.project-voodoo dot org /stock+Voodoo/update_zips/ , or here dl.project-voodoo dot org) P. S. how do we know which one to use/is the right one for our phone?
Any verification or elaboration on these steps would be greatly appreciated!
P.P.S. I know there are multiple ways to possibly do this, but I am looking for the process that requires the least hassle & expert knowledge, and first and foremost the lowest amount of (bricking) risk.
Well you should probably check you have download mode and recovery button combos working first(vol up, home, power for recovery/vol down, home, power for download(do a battery pull to get out of it). Then to be safe after rooting you should back up the EFS, search to find out how and what. Then your method seems fine(not the addictive tips has a separate page for installing CWM on the i9000). Personally I think it would be easier to use Odin, it's quicker and definitely less hassle, and if you do make a mistake Odin is normally your backup, if you know how to use it you should be able to get yourself back up and running.
Thanks heaps for the info shrapnel, I have a bit more reading to do..
I will do some further research and come back with an updated process, hopefully one I have tried and tested myself!
In the meantime if anyone has any further input to share, I am definitely listening.
So once you have installed the Voodoo kernel(The kernel is like the core of the OS which controls between software and hardware) you have CWM, and with that you can install new rom's(Only froyo ones) and change all sorts of things. And I think the kernel itself has the option to root in it(I used to use Speedmod so I'm not to familiar with it). So good luck and be sure to ask anything before you flash anything

[Q] Vodafone Nexus Stock to > Custom Rom Instructins Please

hi guys i need to know the basic instructions from scratch, with links to the needed files. i need the safest possible way to do this. am looking to update with a hybrid Sense and a stable android 2.3.3 fully working.
This rom looks excellent, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123997
first time with good knowledge of the subject. however simple and safe instructions needed
thanks in advance
ps. i looked at other post but there are too many methods and am confused as Sh*t
Ok well do you want to unlock the bootloader or keep it locked? Cause there are methods to do it with or without.
Also sorry for my ignorance but what is the base android version for the vodafone ROM.
well am not sure if i should unlock the bootloader of what the benafits are but can you upload a tutorial video or text thanks
Well unlocking the bootloader will give you access to fastboot which can come in handy if you get into trouble and can flash a few things (but very few) that you can't via recovery. The down side is that it will void your warranty if you still have some left and it will wipe your phone.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995445 at this moment.
use this guide to root and flash your room
just replace the CM7 rom with your rom at the last part

[Q] Complete Newbie ICS Help! :)

Hi guys,
Basically I would like to install the ICS rom on my Galaxy S i9000 but have absolutely no knowledge of how to do so having never installed a custom rom before. Looking at the 'tutorial' for installing ICS leaves me just as clueless as it seems the individual steps require a decent knowledge of knowing what you are doing!
Also, I have discovered from attempts in the past that my Galaxy is one of those that is unable to go into download mode so that is another thing that I need help with (the link to the thread for the solution to this problem in the Galaxy FAQ is dead).
So yeah, any help much appreciated or even a point in the direction of the most thorough guide there is.
Cheeers.
Well, before you do anything you need to enable download mode. Think it's a case of enabling USB debugging and then adb, although I never had to do it.
Secondly you should probably stick a stock gingerbread rom on with odin.
Flash a kernel with odin.
Flash ICS
Flash ICS again.
Going straight to ICS with very little experience of custom ROMs may be a bit difficult especially given it's alpha status.
my phone also had the lock on the Download mode, seem like some service provides disable the feature to "try and prevent" people to flash custom roms as this voids warranty in South Africa. I found a fix on Google but cant remember where.. so if you dont get it right... some guys made a homemade jig here is a link on how to make it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
and when flashing a custom rom its best to follow the roms tutorial and usually there are post regard similar issues that could be encounter in the process. so the search function ends up helping alot instead of having to read thru 100 pages lol
its all new to us in the beginning then it just becomes second nature lol
i recon this is a nice tutorial to use
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/android-4-0-update-for-galaxy-s-i9000-custom-rom/
even has a method to return to stock

Josh. This is NOT a rom which you should pop your cherry on. It is buggy, not very fast and you need a good working knowledge of how to recover a soft bricked phone. If you cannot get into download mode, you would be foolish to flash ANY rom. There is a fix, search xda.
I admire the size of your swingers, but would recommend you gain a little more flashing experience.
However, good luck if you do decide to flash - there's plenty of help here if all goes wrong.
i "popped my custom rom cherry" on ICS build 12 i screwed it up when trying to go for build 13 but i found this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14273101&postcount=1
i installed the latest gingerbread kernel then the rom files and it was fine ater that and im just about to put build 14 on now so dont worry to much about it. Ive never got my phone to a state where i cant fix it, so if me a supernoob can recover a brick just about anyone could

[Q] How to pull kernal and rom from stock phone

My wife just received the text from ATT that Gingerbread was ready to download to her Captivate. We are planning on doing that since she is still on Froyo.
My question is this, is there a way to pull the kernal and rom from her phone after she updates and put it on a different Captivate. I would like to learn a little bit about the procedure if there is a way and give it a try. Would Rom Manager do the trick? I have an extra Captivate that was given to me by a friend who upgraded to a different phone so I have a Captivate to "play with". I am trying to learn a little about how all this works so any steps, links, advice, etc would be grealy appreciated. Thanks in advance.
If you are looking for a stock rom I would recommend checking out the stickie in the development thread. It has a variety of one click packages. It would also recommend doing a lot of research before hand. There is a ton of information on these forums. The more you read, the less likely you are to have problems in the process. Good luck!
Sent from my ICS powered SGH-I897.
Here is a method of backing up the whole rom or parts of it. How to make a tar ball, etc. Easier on a Linux system or Mac OS. Cygwin is anoying at time, but will make it work on Windows.
Thanks. I appreciate the info.
You will need root to do that (see the su command?). Search official kk4.
