(Q) why i my sgs cant read avi format? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My rom is cm7.
I cant see any movie.
I try to run avi format with rock player ajd vplayer and i just cant.
Why?

AVI is not a format .
Ability to play depends upon the format of your file .

So what is my problem?

there is an app out there somewhere called 'handbrake' i think that plays avi files.
or try looking for vlc player, im not sure if its been released or not yet, but there was talks of releasing it for android.
I just use samsung 'allshare' to stream direct from my pc to my phone.

YXplayer. Free in Market or no adds paid fro also available

Your problem is you need to know what sort of AVI file it is mp3 etc .
AVI is just a container not a format .
AVIcodec 1.2.0.113 information tool for format of file .

AVI Playback

Hi!
I m trying to get my TTYN II to playback avi files but cant seem to make it happen... I've tried downloading the Core player but that gives an error saying it doest have the MPEG-4 codec? Where do I get the codec's from?
Thanks,
Neil
it shouldnt ask for mp4 codec if you are playing an avi file. different formats. did you download the latest version of core player? make sure you get the one for pocket pc and the latest version is 0.72RC1. avi works fine for me.
AVI is just a file format, it has nothing to do with the codec. So there can be MPEG4 AVIs. Actually most are (DivX and Xvid are MPEG4). MPEG4 videos don't necessarily have the .mp4 extension.
Don't know how to install the codec though, don't have a Kaiser yet lol.
If you installed the core player (http://www.coreplayer.com/) then you should be able to play avi files. What version are you using ?
Try to uninstall and reinstall it and try again.

I'll be watching for responses as I'm also wanting to play MPEG 4 files (with avi extensions - from ATI's Multimedia Centre Software on my desktop PC) on my TyTN II. I'd prefer just to use a codec to provide this functionality in the built in version of pocket media player (what I currently use for wmv files).

Try this then:

Many thanks!
Thank you for that format expansion cab link texarcana, and it's free too. Will try it out on Cristmas day if I have the time.
[Edit] Alas it didn't allow playing of my ATI Multimedia Centre produced mp4 AVI files - back to wmv for me.

So does this work any better than TCPMP at playing back mp4 files?
Better ? Prolly not.
But instead of installing another player, you just add some codecs with it instead.
Anyway, my personal favourite is the core mobile player (which isnt free)
While I still haven't published the "full" Multimedia Bible, the H.264 Bible at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=The H.264 (a.k.a. MPEG-4 Part 10 and AVC) Bible (in the Wiki) explains a LOT of these issues (what MP4 files are, what they can contain, what players and what codec packs are needed to play them etc)
Ive been using Pocket DivX Player 0.8 and it play7s avi files perfectly
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-pocket-divx-player-0-8.html
its not bad for freeware

[Q] program/app i need to watch avi movies????

anyone know if its possible and if so what program/app i need to watch avi movies that i stored n my sd card? when i had the vouge i used tcmp, a great program that played anything i ran on it.
Is there any programs similar to this?
thank you.
search "avi" on the market. I just did, about 5-8 apps popped about but they're all low rated. You can try to convert the avi movies to another format.
tcmp or dviplayer can be used... a search can help you to find one
Try this out...
I used this software converting a few movies and it worked great. Just download Video Player in the market and it will find the videos on your SD card. It may even play avi, but I just convert everything to H264

[Q] Supported file types

I am having problems getting video to play on my captivate. It says AVI and DIVX files are supported online yet whenever I put a file of this type onto my phone it says file type not supported. I just bought a movie from the Samsung Media Hub and dowloaded it from the SAMSUNG BUILT IN APP yet the file still is unsupported. Does anyone know what to use to convert movies to be compatible with this phone? What file types are supported?
I am having the same problem and looking for help now too. I converted all my dvds to Divx and I always used the official Divx codec and converted all my movies with AC3 audio. No matter which video I try that I made I get that not supported error. Hopefully I find a fix soon because it is driving me nuts

Not all AVI files are compressed using the same video codecs, so some will work and some won't, all depends on the codecs.
Do a search for video codecs, it might help.
Although this is not the correct method to solve the issue, most of the newer ROMs support more video codecs, so try an update, if you haven't already. Or you can try converting the AVI to MP4, DivX, etc. There are even some apps that convert video files on the phone (no need for PC conversion).
so it's not a phone issue, thanks at all
Try using mobo player. It plays basically any file
What's a signature?

X8 can support .mp4 file
download it with .mp4 format
or u can simply convert by your self with total video converter or what ever converter..but make sure it was .mp4 format
then try to play because some converter software have to many .mp4 format type (I mean resolution, HD not HD, MPEG4,Mp4)
just try
or
just use keepvid.com and download it into .mp4 I'm sure this will work on your X8

You can keep videos any where. Android will show them in Gallery.
If you want can put in VIDEOS filder in Card root also.
Youtube videos downloaded in flv format. You can install any flv player available in market and enjoy these videos directly.
Few players are here:
