ROM tutorial

Just wondering if anyone has made or would make a sort of tutorial about howto upgrade rom, make new rom, customize rom etc. preferable with pictures'n'stuff

I'd like that too, the problem is that there's too much info about this on the forum, some of that info is outdated, valid only for a specific device, and sometimes valid for a couple of devices but posted on a specific device forum( hermes ).
Since we would really like to do this but fear bricking our devices, I think it would help if a known, trustworthy and experienced member had the time and will to start the creation of a centralized source of info about this topic, like one big wiki page divided by main steps and device-specific tools/methods which would later be improved by other users( wiki ).
Who knows, maybe there's someone who just needs a nudge to create something useful to the community.

I really hope someone will do, cause I wanna learn it the easy way

New to all this modding, need some help

Hello everyone! I'm new around here. I was looking to update the rom on my HTC Diamond Touch and I found this great website. First I just want to say I have all the respect in the world for you guys because this is pretty high science. All this modding and tweaking takes skill from what I see.
Anyways, I read a lot of the stickies that say read this first before posting quesitons and all that.

I just have a few concerns that these were mostly written a year ago; and on the ROM discussion board, new stuff is coming out everyday it looks like.
I need some help making sure my bases are covered when I start to update my HTC Diamond Touch. Such as having all my references ready in case something may go wrong or having the right bootloader or whatever.
1.) I want to update my ROM because it is pretty old (stock 10/27/08 edition) and it is a little sluggish at times. Can someone give me some advice on a solid ROM? I do not need "everything", like "omg iPhone pwnage ROM" but just a solid, works well, looks good, few bugs or crashes ROM ... good battery life is a plus too!
2.) I don't know the version of my phone. Like "CDMA" etc? This is my phone company.

3.) Similar to #1, what "radio" should I use, etc? Once again I am very new to all this and the tech stuff about modding I do not have locked in yet.

4.) How do I know if I am security unlocked? (SIM-unlocked too? I have service from Cellcom (my provider) but what does that entail for the other stuff?)

I security unlocked, installed Juicy 8 ROM and a Telus radio ... so far so good!

Although I don't have a "win", I would also not advise going under my wing either!
Just read lots on these forums...it is very straight forward, and people have spent loads of time writing up guides, so they get a little "touchy" when people ask the same questions over and over (and I am sure you can appreciate that!).
The main fork in the road for you is to get to know your device so that you can understand what you want to update/tweak/change.

If you want to learn what additions can be made to your unit, then go to the "HD Themes and Apps" link
If you want to learn how to flash a new or "cooked" ROM, then click on the "Rom Development" link. You have WM 6.1...but many of the "chefs" "cook" fabulous ROMS, generally on the newer WM 6.5 OS.
If you click on the "WIKI" tab at the top of the forum, there is a whole heap of information about "How to do's" etc.
Just read lots...it takes time, but you will get used to it. Be nice and appreciative of the chefs as they do heaps for all of us, and a donation to your favorite chef helps them continue producing for us all!

PS i dont know anything about making roms :/ and sorry for inconvinience

1) Don't use all caps.
2) There's a *reason* this site doesn't let new members post in the dev sections. Do a bit of research first.
3) ROM creation is not a trivial process even where it's possible.
4) Is there even a public exploit for custom ROMs on HTC WP8 at all yet? There was talk of it but I've heard nothing more.

I suggest that you get familiar with the windows phone usage first, and then think about more advanced topic.

Also: For one, the video you linked is a concept video by a fan. That isn't a real design that is being implemented.
Secondly, the work it would take to mimic that would have to be done very low level, with access to rewriting the OS itself, which isn't possible.

[Q] Back on XDA, but now a newbie again-need help

Hi Guys,
Wow, XDA has changed - use to come here when I had my HTC Touch Pro- now back, after Iphone - with a S4 Active GT I9295 and a newbie again.
I would like to be able to delete all the bloat ware that is on the phone, make some tweaks to increase battery life and improve the phone, and maybe in the future install custom roms (ones I've done some serious catching up) but I'm completely new to Android and all it's associated wonders
Could somebody be so kind to point me in the direction of some " newbie info" on the terminology - which root to use - which apps are bloat - which are not, etc, etc, etc.
In the old days XDA was always a great source of info and help and hoping that it still is.
