Does juice defender really work? - Thunderbolt Themes and Apps

Does juice defender really work to save you battery life? I got my normal battery backup on and was wondering if it was worth the download. How much of a difference do you really see?

It hasn't seemed to help at all for me, in fact I think it sucked more juice than it saved. I found that using SetCPU with Adrynalyne's kernel saves a lot by setting a profile the throttles the CPU to 245mhz max when screen is off.

I had the same experience on my OG Droid, installed and saw better battery life.
Thrown by Zeus himself

It most definitely makes a HUGE difference in my battery life.
A lot of the reason you see one person say no it doesnt and some saying yes is because there are so many settings to change it can vary greatly from one person to the next.

I prefer green power from the market... Data comes on faster with screen on/unlock and uses a much simpler approach to turning off mobile data and has more customization out of the box for free vs juice defender

[Q] Anyone else regretting purchase?

I just got the Vivid on Friday and I'm starting to think I made wrong choice and shouldve gotten skyrocket. I love everything about it, camera, interface, gorgeous screen, etc..BUT, the battery is by far the worst i have ever experienced with a cell phone. By battery was completely dead by 3 this afternoon after fairly light use. Even with task killer, I'm at a loss for this battery's pathetic power. Anyone experiencing same problems? I don't expect a super battery, but when using the iphone 4 prior, the battery was worlds better, seriously. Any ideas? Are u guys experiencing same?
I love the phone you have to tweak the battery settings let the battery power up and then power down a couple of times I now get over two days on the same battery. The skyrocket has its own issues GPS which never sets burn in from the screen etc.
I had the Skyrocket for a few days and went back to get this phone. The Skyrocket does have it's share of issues. 1. No FM Radio which I kinda Like. 2. Not a fan of the UI, as I tend to like Sense more. 3. When watching movies in the dark let's say you get a black screen or dark for a moment, you can see small lines going through the movie until it changes to lighter scenes. If you can deal with those things than I would say go for the Skyrocket as it already has root and an OC/UV kernel plus some Roms are starting to pop up.

Were you baking a cake with it? I get at least 14 hours out of mine with moderate use. I switched from an iPhone 4 and have absolutely no issues. What's your brightness level set at, and what are your network/data settings (i.e. Wifi on all day, auto-sync, background data, GPS, etc.)?

Would you mind telling us how you're getting "over two days"? I'm happy with a full day and having to charge in the evening, but over two days would be phenomenal..
Also, I'm totally satisfied with this phone.. I think it's exceptional, even coming from the iPhone 4's awesome battery life. Boom.
Wow, 2 days on one charge?! Can't imagine that with what i've seen so far...hopefully after powering up a couple times, it'll improve. Do i need to let it drain completely before powering up? The battery is the only thing i'm disappointed in right now, but obviously its a major issues if the battery is just brutally weak
The first day I got this phone, it was dead in about 6 hours. However, when I use it like a phone, I'm getting ok battery life out of it. It's now at 40 percent and it's 8 pm.

Most task killers cause slower performance and in turn worse battery life. Android OS is designed to keep the RAM 2/3 full, so that apps you use are kept there, and don't require CPU cycles when you need them later, and it will automatically kill apps when it needs the RAM.
Almost all android phones see marked battery life improvement after a few charge cycles.

I am getting well over a day of usage. usually get a day and a half with a modest amount of wifi/mobile data usage and well over an hour 'on screen' time. almost posted a screen shot when i was at 1 day 19 hours and ~20% left, with a majority of time with wifi on and well over an hour of screen time.
auto screen brightness, no auto rotate, manual control of data and syncing.
I like to get 4 hours screen time out of a full charge. But I had an above average day of phone calls. Not bad... Definitely not bad for HTC and no modified kernel.

I'm coming from the HTC Desire and man o' man does this thing smoke. And the RAM. The Desire was so RAM starved it wasn't funny. While I did take advantage of some of the locally developed ROMs, I was just getting tired of playing games to get around the lack of memory on the Desire. This phone feels good too. To some it may be a bit heavy, but I like the weight and the larger (over the Desire 3.7") screen is very nice too.

That might be part of the problem. Google greatly improved memory management starting with FroYo (Android 2.2) so you really don't need to use a task killer. In fact, using 3rd party task killers interferes with the OS's internal system, which leads to slower performance and poorer battery life.
See this and this for more info regarding task killers.
I'd start with uninstalling the task killer, and then managing some of the peripheral features like GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc. Nothing is free battery-wise. If you don't use them, turn them off.

[Q] Suggestions for higher charge battery?

I use my phone alot for work, and I really need to get more juice out of it. I've tried changing sync settings and using battery stats to check app useage but battery life is still a bit lousy. Anyone got a suggestion for another battery for it?
Thanks

Samsung original 3000 mah battery with replacement cover. The only draw back the phone becomes a little heavy and 3 mm thick.
Btw I'm selling mine since I would like to have a lighter phone with less battery life. . pm if interested.

Don't wanna advertise it, but i installed smabergs "X-Power" rom from dev-section one and a half week ago and experienced a much lower drain on battery since then. Maybe it is a try for you too?

How lousy? 5? 10? 15hrs? Sometimes people expectations are too high....
There's many ways to improve your battery life. Look around or get extra one.

extend battery life with One Power Guard V2.8?

Have any of you tried One Power Guard V2.8, found here on XDA and Google Play? It looks pretty awesome for extending the battery of a phone.
It needs to run at root level, so it's not for everyone.
Has anyone tried it with the HTC One to see if it helps?
No one has tried One Power Guard V2.8?
I just use Green Power or Juice Defender (depending on how I'm feeling), and actually the power saver that comes with the stock ROM isn't terrible.
I purchased juice defender a few years back and it actually uses more power than it saves, don't believe me, check for yourself, enable juice defender and install better battery stats which you can get on the Play store and leave your phone on standby overnight and the next day the biggest wakelock on better battery stats by far will be juice defender.
These "battery saving apps" are generally a waste of time.

Power Saver Mode - Use or Not

Just wondering who uses this to increase battery life? If so, what do y'all have checked?
I want to increase battery life but wonder if it's noticeable.

I don't use it I get 1 1/2 -2 days with light to moderate use with around 3 hours of screen on time
I use it and get the same as bigdaddy test it out see if you notice a difference each phone is defferent

I use it with just couldn't and display checked. Get great battery but it also helps reduce the overheating problem slightly. I don't notice any difference in performance whatsoever.

To be more accurate, each user is different. The phones are identical.
Power Saver mode will not save you any remarkable amount of battery unless you are maxing out the CPU or GPU (like playing games). Since what it does under the cover (besides what it advertises in the options) is downclock the CPU, this can actually be a detriment to battery life. It is better for battery life for the CPU to run at max speed for very short periods, and then go to sleep. It uses more power by running slower (and thus staying awake longer).
Again, it'll take a lot to really notice a change in either direction, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the jury's still very much out on race-to-finish style processor governors. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they do badly. Either way, it depends on use case.
I would also hazard that it's very much an oversimplification to say that the phones are "identical." It's hardly unheard of for different production batches to use slightly different components. However, the impact from this is probably negligible compared to variations in user habit (and if it's not, then someone in QC/QA needs to go).

Race-to-finish is pretty much the de-facto standard for every decent mobile device right now. It's even getting pushed onto laptops and their associated CPUs (like Haswell).
And I don't think it's an oversimplification if the differing components are only ones that are using on the order of micro-amps of power. They're not using different spec CPUs or something. That would be insanity.
Thanks Vincent for specifying that for me, I guess it's only roms because I have heard that each phone acts different. But this is new to me the phone uses more battery when it's at low speeds? I usually underclock to save battery while screen on as well as during sleep.

When your phone is asleep, underclocking does nothing, because it's not really even running at all. This mostly applies when the screen is on as well, for any cores not active. 0mhz > any underclock you can manage

JuiceDefender

Is somebody using JuiceDefender on this device?
Sent from my HTC Desire C
Yeah, been using it for a while, defiantly makes a difference in battery life.
Juice defender is not worth it on low end devices like that. What you get is placebo and the same amount of battery drain as usual. It takes battery just to do the tasks you give it, so its pretty much useless. Stick to greenify.

Don't know if you've tried it but I got the Ultimate version and it does seem to preserve battery. No placebo at all since I'm getting more hours per charge.

I had the ultimate version of the app as well. It didn't change it for me, even though I made it as battery conservative as I could. I'm just drawing conclusions on personal experience.
