Hello. I have recently flashed my phone with darky's. I got very disappointed mainly because of battery drainage and I switched to Doc's Custom Cooked ROM from romkitchen.org
My MAIN problem with Galaxy S is that after about 15 reboots (NO MATTER WHAT ROM I USE) I get the force close loop and everything goes straight to hell. All my apps are invalidated and nothing works anymore. I am tired of flashing and reflashing my phone. I just want to USE IT, NOT WASTE TIME FIXING IT!
I kindly ask for a solution on this forum. I would also like to say that I have applied the "/system corruption problem" but this didn't work at all.
I am eagerly waiting for an answer. Currently there are 2 sollutions:
1 - Solve this damn problem
2 - Throw SGS to trash can and buy an iPhone
Please help!
Just flash with the stock v2.2.1. Use your phone...
If you go with a custom rom, you gotta expect issues.

To be honest with you, it might just be your phone...I've flashed countless times and not had a bootloop in months. Try doing a factory reset and start from scratch from either Darky or Doc's ROM

+1 to that.
If you really want a custom rom with good battery... I'd recommend a clean 2.2.1 JPY flash and then Darky's 8.0/8.1 . The battery life is much better in those versions. I get ~1%/hr drain at night with Darky 8.1 vs ~3% with 9.2
I have recently tried Insanity 0.6.1 and find it very good. It actually doesn't have all that bloatware from Samsung and therefore it has more stability! I have been using it for a day. Given ~ 20 restarts and no problems. I hope everything is going to be allright. I'll report back in a couple of days or as soon as it gets problems.
Anyone facing issues with random auto restart while using this Rom
I need a solution for this..
It worked fine for me, however I never got the google sync to work. You should make sure that no scripts are installed and check your performance settings. (Smartav2 with max 806 and min 245 are most stable settings)

Yes, I came to know about the google sync issues by reading the development forum for this rom. I am ok with that part as its not a full version rom..
but I cant understand why it keeps auto restarting my phone?? really annoying on such an awesome rom.
And ya, wish you could explain how to make sure no scripts are installed....
yeah ,
same with me,
automatically random restart after play games and even connect mass storage.
don't know why,
btw this rom very2 awesome,i like it

Known bug if you have apps installed on SD Card. Just wait for the final release because the MIUI is currently on RC2 meaning it still has bugs. It's currently functional and beautiful now. You just have to cope up to the small bugs you encounter.
MIUI launcher eat too much ram, go to option-launcher setting untick high quality grapics and icon shadow for better performance. if you use darktremor try to move data to sd, i've using for 3 days and never had random reboot.
Well I don't get that prob but restart is because the ace is out of memory....(RAM)
My prob is that I can't ecept calls only call other pepz com.android.phone crashes

2 what should I chanse it if tried 120dpi and ofcorce stock 160
Some glitches
Luv the visuals in this ROM
Bt there are a few glitches as well and maybe i think the dev must be currently working on that too..
Here are some of them:
There is a major lag time when u rotate the phone (auto-rotate time is quite large)
Many a times when trying to remove SD..phone restarts
Custom themes have problem on the lockscreens (full view is not visible)
Bootanimation doesnt change at all...
The best thing i like about this ROM is that u can select as many no. of recipients for sending messages..a huge like
And several of other ROMs have that smiley in place of [Enter] button..but this one is perfect
Though i wud like the dev to add the feature of replying to contacts directly from call log
Anyways, hats off to the dev for building a gud ROM!!

I'm currently on a buggy minicm7 2.2.0. I'm suspecting the culprit of the bugs is my SD card(A2SD). I'm thinking of re-installing everything from scratch, but then again, there is the good looking minicm9 ics.
So my question is, should I upgrade to minicm9? (I don't have much time to check it myself for trial and error so I'm asking here for your opinions.)
Please convince me why should I do so. Are there any significant functionality that is available on cm7 that is not on cm9? Significant performance drop on games?(though I don't play on my x8 nowadays)
Thanks!
If u use ur pohone day to day and record videos or watch videos from youtube u should use MiniCm7 2.2.0
If not then MiniCm9 is ok if u supercharge it and install this add on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649187
so it no flash support? Hmmm.. I guess it's fine...

Not Working:
HW Video encoding / decoding
Hi, I tried minicm9.. at first it was cool, even refreshing..
The UI feels revamped, system settings cleaned, messaging better, default launcher is beautiful and it really felt like wonderful..
But after some time of using it, I found it laggy, just opening drawer takes about 1 or 2 seconds, it often restarts, and it also restarts when I try to overclock to over 748MHz (this also happened in minicm7)..
I just felt down, I really like the new feel but the performance was not as good as minicm7, I really hope it gets to a point that it is at par with minicm7
i would suggest you stick with minicm7 2.2.0 cos the minicm9 is extrremely laggy, constant force closing, and its got a crazy battery drain.i flashed minicm9 but reverted to minicm7 cos of the bugs.i feel naa will be working on an update for the minicm9 with fixed bugs ,until then just stick with minicm7 cos most people are reverting to it already.
pls give me a thanks if its helpfull.cos i am a new member.so i can post more comments
I say go with cm9, I flashed it 2 days ago and Im loving it, yes it is not stable yet but it is quite ok, there is a bit lag but you can always install resized apps and v6 supercharger
If u need to use ur phone to watch video daily, either from your phone,or internet, then you should stick with MiniCM7,but if you want something new,try out MiniCM9,i'm using MiniCM9 right now,and i'm happy with it
Advantages of MiniCM9:
-Android 4.0 (ICS)
-Fast Wifi Connection (really2 fast)
-UI just like Galaxy Nexus ( i love it very2 much)
Disadvantages/bug of MiniCM9:
-video not working
-Speaker sound not so good, can use FIX from here : http://www.4shared.com/zip/2g7-UiU2/MiniCM9_Audio_Fix.html
-Quite laggy scrolling, can improve by flashing this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649187
#as said above you can also use supercharged,i might do it later, but right now i can said it is table for daily use like sms, call, internet, listen to radio,etc...if you have problem in MiniCM9,don't forget to read FAQ first, hope this help you to decide

craaaaazy, ne?
(skip ahead to the end of the post)
MiniCM9 lags as hell, I'll keep the MiniCM7 until the 9 improves.
I personally dont go to ICS due limitations of our hardware. We will never can have full feature of ICSFace unlocked, for example
I had to revert to cm7 based rom...gingerdx to be specific because minicm9 is still laggy, it do not support games and freezes all the time. TO me the biggest culprit was the video playback..its only good enough to show it off to your friends. but im eagerly waiting for full working version...... And there is minicm10 out already.. Its lightweight and smooth..but Both ROMs are similar in performance. you can try it out as well.
Help me!!!

just flash the ROM kernel (nAa, JB, ICS,,,,) and flash the ROM by CWM
'what type of error?
minicm9 is and always will be laggy and slower than minicm7 due to hardware limitations so why bother i have tried almost every rom in here and all are the same at first they are fast and nice but after a while they become slower and laggy so i think a lost my hope

if still the 2nd post above me solution does not work, first flash to stock firmware, flash the gingerbread kernel (alfs, naa) first, format /system, /cache, /data, flash the ics kernel of naa, and again, format /system,/cache,/data, if still, maybe haven't installed the right drivers for your x8, so go into the root directory of your Flashtool then go to drivers, you can manually install the drivers required by your device there for sure
Cm7
I would suggest you to stay on Cm7 cause it is more stable, less laggy, better performances and battery life.
Tried both MiniCM7 and MinCM9 and I must admit ICS is not for our device..:crying:.It lags most of the time and is very unstable.....I would rather recommend MiniCM10 over MiniCM9 any day....:good:but MiniCM7 is bug-less, stable and is for daily use......:highfive:
I would recommend CM7 if you expect performance out of your phone..... but if you need to be on latest androids CM 10 is good.....
But CM9 is very less stable in x8 it keeps on hanging and apps force closes.... CM10 is much better.

Thank you for the post. I was going to post similar question regarding good choices for daily use and just found it.
Mini CM9 is my first try and here are some info on my experience:
I was long time planning using a custom ROM/Kernel and my first choice was Mini CM9, because of all of its features and beautiful look. As other users mentioned, it was running VERY good for a while (maybe the first 2 or 3 days after an install or new install). Anyway, every time (I reinstalled it twice) it gets laggy and I get a lot of "Not responding" messages (Trebuchet and other apps). I've even lost some calls because of "Phone Activity" freezing.
Plus, I could not use wirelless networks using a public hot-spot with sign-in needed. Wireless networks always worked good while using Stock ROM/Kernel, by the way.
CM9 seems to be a very good ROM but, considering my own experience, it should not be for daily use as it was not as stable as I was expecting.
I am preparing my X8 to install a more stable Kernel/ROM and, If you guys excuse me, I would to ask you about the Mini CM7 and GingerDX ROMs. Please, if you tried both or even GingerDX only, let me know how was it.
Thank you guys! I'll let you know about my new ROM/Kernel choice as soon as I decide which one to install.
Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.
Cheers

Hi,I'm not going to be much help as I'm a noob myself but I can say I had same stock laggy gt 19000 which through like u said a lot of confusion about rooting and ROMs researching XDA and YouTube you can do it my galaxy s is like a new phone so stick with it,one tip is always stick to you model and kernel version and write things down and I hope it goes as well as it did for me. Btw I used Odin 3.1 and clockwork to root and Flashed ROM with Cm 10.1 stable.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
download ICS rom ( i suggest this one )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687727
install it via recovery
if you want to upgrade to JB
go to development section , chose any custom rom you want
and install via recovery

I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on
Enter disable lagfix and reboot

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. I am using note(n7000) and on stock xxlt9 firmware. This is the smoothest firmware released from samsung till date(un branded). I have removed many of the bloats by samungs and hong into root i have cleared 100 mb of space...( believe me,apks are placed at many places). Still my phone lags. My ram usage is above 80% always...i hardly get 150mb off free ram. I use greenify toh hibernate maximum apps. I don't know whats happening...and pls dont say that free ram=wasted ram...that means u havnt used android properly. I tried my custom roms based on touch wiz and others, bit none of then suited me. Yesterday i flashed cyanogenmod 10.1.3 and its working like charm...ram usage is almost the same...or i may b getting 20% extra...but phone is buttry smooth . But i am having one confusion. Suppose i open xda website in default browser
Then i open some other website in chrome, then whatsapp then fileexplorer. But now when i go to default browser that xda website is still open...wow to my surprise. That never happend in my android experience. While on the other hand, on touch wiz xda website will reload . Why is it so?
When my ram usage is hig and i play game it lags....although game itself clear outs ram but still it lags...i had to revert back to touch wiz from CM because i am too addicted to features line multi window, s pen gestures, pop up play and others. But is it possible to have that performance of cm in touch wiz?

Download this one, try to flash it with mobile odin, if you dont know that program.Find it, download it and intall it to your device, run it .Then:
1->locate the open file option (be sure you unzip the file you downloaded (the rom) because if not mobile odin wont recognise it.
2->A popup saying a couple of files were loaded will prompt, just type ok
3->Scroll down a bit and make sure the 3 or 2 root options (dont remember correctly) are ticked ,so that the flashed rom will be already rooted.
4->Finally start flashing,(remember to have more thank 50% battery when doing so, just in case so nothing can go wrong.
After flashing the rom you will need to flash the helloworld kernel, and if you flashed speedmod im sure you know how to do it, if not shout me and i will show you .
