If new GB 2.3.3 stock Rom needs Rooting? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently Flashed with Gingerbread 2.3.3 stock Rom fully.
Do I need rooting again?
Why I said re-rooting is that I had rooted my previous original Froyo 2.2.1 Rom with success..
If it 2.3.2. stock Rom needs rooting, which is the best way and soft for it ?

Yes, if you upgraded from 2.2.1 then 2.3.3 will need to be rooted again. There are several kernels that you can flash via ODIN that will root 2.3.3. Check in the ROM Kitchen beta or in this thread for kernels by Chainfire, SuperCurio and DamienGTO.
Remember that 2.3.3 is still a work in progress so read, READ, READ before you do anything.

Ths.
I found out this is the solution.

[Q] Froyo to Gingerbread 2.3.3

Iam from Germany and iam using the german Kies! But i have installed trough spooffw and UK Version of GIngerbread 2.3.3 because in Germany the GIngerbread Update trough Kies wsa not available. But today it started i saw in the internet. So i need to get back to Stock german Froyo so that the german Kies indentify it and update it but which is this stock german Froyo 2.2 Rom?
Thank your very much for you considerations
Flash back to your stock Eclair 2.1 (Choose the right file depending on your region go to this website samfirware.com), and then upgrade via Kies.
Ok i will test it hopefully i get the right Rom from samfirmware.com
Rooting Gingerbread on my SGS
Hello folks,
first of all I really appreciate the work you put in here to satisfy the community with all the helpful apps and stuff. TY!
Well, it came to the point that I used Kies to update my Germanish SGS i9000 (O²) and the only thing I miss now is the root access to get rid of some really unwanted and memory eating apps.
I used SuperOneClick on Froyo and earlier versions which worked great but seems this is not working on 2.3.3 anymore. Well, I was reading the guide on how to install this CF Kernel but I got scared because others seems to have some reboot issues after doing so. I have to admit that I really don't have much clue about all the Odin pushes and Kernel stuff, and the more I try to understand, the more I get confused (I might blame it only on my age tho^^).
Is there anyone out here that could just guide me to the right CF download for my SGS? That would really help me alot.
Another question would be, after changing the Kernel, can this mess up upgrading to a newer firmware in the future? Do I have to install the original kernel before?
Model: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.3.3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVI-CL210427
I downloaded an Eclair Rom from Samfirmware.com but i cant flash it on my sgs i9000 so i decided to flash an Gingerbread 2.3.3 JVO from samfirmware. IS that an official Gingerbread or an customized?
If you want to root under Gingerbread you need to flash another Kernel e.g from Supercurio. Get ODin 1.3 and search in development section for an Kernel and flash it then you ahev superuser rights

rooting the captivate

[Q]
ok i tried to root this phone with unrevoked following the captivate settings...no luck.
I am good with flashing with odin, i looked and am going in circles with this lol, is there a rooted stock or rooted gb that i can flash with odin that has no really bad bugs or issues?
thanks in advance
Is your Captivate official 2.2 I897uckb1 ?? If so, I was able to root with success using this...View attachment SuperOneClickv1.6.5-ShortFuse.zip
It's an older version, but it is the only one that would work for me when I was on the official Froyo 2.2

Download stock gb firmware from ramad post.It contains gb bootloaders.Use jvr firmware it's stable.
Flash it with odin.If you want to use pit file check repartition.
After that download cf root and flash it as pda.Do not check repartition!
After that copy juwe rom to sd card and flash it through cwm.
Before everything remove sim card and external sd card.
Check my post in general it's called experience about rom and kernels maybe you can find usefull info.

thx 4 ur answer there! Is it possible jsut to flash only the GB bootloader?
Flashing stock GB and then Juwes takes about 2 hours
I thot u cud flash the GB bootloader on Froyo as TAR , but i cud be wrong
That's what I did when I updated my froyo to Juwe 4.3.1 several monts ago. I flashed with odin only the gingerbread bootloaders and just flashed the Juwe's ROM from the recovery. Anyway I strongly reccommend flashing stock JVR and a custom kernel and after that flashing Juwe 5.3 and it takes like 10 minutes + 20 more to restore your settings and applications and you're set to go.

Well, I told you I did that several months ago, so can't remember and I'm not sure if there was difference in bootloaders of 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 but you can chech this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089989

There is no difference in bootloaders in any 2.3.x.
Bootloaders are the same for all 2.3 rom.

[Q] Has anyone updated to official 2.3 from ROOTED 2.2 directly?

Has anyone updated to official 2.3 from ROOTED 2.2 directly? Any problem?
Yep - used Kies Mini to update to Gingerbread from rooted stock Froyo. I backed up everything, but it looks like it didn't delete any of my apps or data (despite the warnings on the samsung website). Of course, I now have the bloatware back, and am no longer rooted.
Based on what I'm discovering, it isn't as simple to root with Gingerbread as it was with Froyo. Back to reading through the forums...
I just upgraded today from 2.2 to gingerbread 2.3.5. NO problem EXCEPT like you said not so easy to root. I am looking on the forum fou help no luck yet. I have rooted my phone many times with 2.2!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Search Fugu root method and you will find your answers!
Don't forget their already KK4 rooted stock Kernels in the developers section that can be uploaded by odin
Sounds like if I want to root after updating from stock rooted Froyo to stock gingerbread, I need to follow the fugu root instructions in the OP of this thread:[ROM]I897UCKF1 Odin-1-Click Gingerbread 2.3.3 w/ Optional Fugu Root, with the exception of needing the UCKK4 kernel instead of the UCKF1 supplied in that post.
Based on some of the ongoing forum conversations, the build dates and build numbers from the leaked UCKK4 and the official UCKK4 are slightly off, so it sounds like those wanting onlyto root stock gingerbread should wait for confirmation that there are no other changes between those two versions, or wait for someone to post the new official UCKK4 kernel.
That sound right to any knowledgeable devs out there? I'm assuming that this strategy will allow me to root without having to manually (or via Titanium) restore all my applications and files.
Let's also assume that those wanting to do this have a logical & rational reason for not using one of the custom GB roms that have been available for some time .
Or you can use SuperOneClick
SuperOneClick 2.3.3.0 eventually stops responding for me using either method. If someone gets it to work, please detail how. I went back to stock Eclair then used Kies mini to go to 2.2 then to KK4.

The kk4 kernels that already exist should work fine after you flash the fugu kernel.
It won't wipe any apps you have installed.

[Q]Kies Mini 2.3 upgrade bootoaders

Hi, quick question. Can anyone confirm if the official 2.3.5 update through Kies Mini includes flashing gingerbread bootloaders? Until recently I've only run KB1 roms, but I now have CM7.1.
Briefly, I used Odin3 1-click to go to UCJF6, did a master clear, then used Kies Mini to go from 2.1 to 2.2 then 2.3 as per instructions. After that I went right to CM7.1 with no issues other than the expected bootloop after flashing the speedmod kernel which was resolved by flashing the rom.
BTW, I'm finding CM7.1 as solid and stable as I would ever need. (The main reason I stuck with KB1 releases for so long.) Many thanks to all the developers, maintainers, etc. for keeping the captivate alive.
Yeah to even run a STOCK GB rom you are required GB BL's... It won't boot without it...
And Why do you flash the speedmod on 2.1?! that was changed a long time ago...
Thanks for the reply. I went back to 2.1 because I hadn't come across Odin3 for 2.2. I was actually on 2.3 when I flashed the speedmod (according to what I read it is now safe to go this route.)
Ohh yahh, but you can One click to JF6, then flash the BL only ODIN, then it will reboot to recovery, apply update.zip, and flash from there!
OK, thanks. I'll remember that for future reference. Just wanted to confirm where I was at because apparently there is no straightforward way even through adb of checking your current bootloaders.
