[Q]
ok i tried to root this phone with unrevoked following the captivate settings...no luck.
I am good with flashing with odin, i looked and am going in circles with this lol, is there a rooted stock or rooted gb that i can flash with odin that has no really bad bugs or issues?
thanks in advance
Is your Captivate official 2.2 I897uckb1 ?? If so, I was able to root with success using this...View attachment SuperOneClickv1.6.5-ShortFuse.zip
It's an older version, but it is the only one that would work for me when I was on the official Froyo 2.2

Recently Flashed with Gingerbread 2.3.3 stock Rom fully.
Do I need rooting again?
Why I said re-rooting is that I had rooted my previous original Froyo 2.2.1 Rom with success..
If it 2.3.2. stock Rom needs rooting, which is the best way and soft for it ?
Yes, if you upgraded from 2.2.1 then 2.3.3 will need to be rooted again. There are several kernels that you can flash via ODIN that will root 2.3.3. Check in the ROM Kitchen beta or in this thread for kernels by Chainfire, SuperCurio and DamienGTO.
Remember that 2.3.3 is still a work in progress so read, READ, READ before you do anything.
Ths.
I found out this is the solution.

Iam from Germany and iam using the german Kies! But i have installed trough spooffw and UK Version of GIngerbread 2.3.3 because in Germany the GIngerbread Update trough Kies wsa not available. But today it started i saw in the internet. So i need to get back to Stock german Froyo so that the german Kies indentify it and update it but which is this stock german Froyo 2.2 Rom?
Thank your very much for you considerations
Flash back to your stock Eclair 2.1 (Choose the right file depending on your region go to this website samfirware.com), and then upgrade via Kies.
Ok i will test it hopefully i get the right Rom from samfirmware.com
Rooting Gingerbread on my SGS
Hello folks,
first of all I really appreciate the work you put in here to satisfy the community with all the helpful apps and stuff. TY!
Well, it came to the point that I used Kies to update my Germanish SGS i9000 (O²) and the only thing I miss now is the root access to get rid of some really unwanted and memory eating apps.
I used SuperOneClick on Froyo and earlier versions which worked great but seems this is not working on 2.3.3 anymore. Well, I was reading the guide on how to install this CF Kernel but I got scared because others seems to have some reboot issues after doing so. I have to admit that I really don't have much clue about all the Odin pushes and Kernel stuff, and the more I try to understand, the more I get confused (I might blame it only on my age tho^^).
Is there anyone out here that could just guide me to the right CF download for my SGS? That would really help me alot.
Another question would be, after changing the Kernel, can this mess up upgrading to a newer firmware in the future? Do I have to install the original kernel before?
Model: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.3.3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVI-CL210427
I downloaded an Eclair Rom from Samfirmware.com but i cant flash it on my sgs i9000 so i decided to flash an Gingerbread 2.3.3 JVO from samfirmware. IS that an official Gingerbread or an customized?
If you want to root under Gingerbread you need to flash another Kernel e.g from Supercurio. Get ODin 1.3 and search in development section for an Kernel and flash it then you ahev superuser rights
Hi all, so I recently sent in my I9000M Bell Vibrant to the service centre in Montreal to get it fixed (it had a fried internal SD) and they sent it back to me with a replaced motherboard (that's what I'm assuming because the phone's mac address changed and the internal SD is in working order now) but as a result the phone is no longer unlocked, which is a problem because I'm not with Bell.
They shipped the phone back to me with 2.3.3 installed, kernal version 2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3 and I was wondering if anyone could help me root this thing so I can get it unlocked. I looked around the forum and tried SuperOneClick which didn't work and was unsure of where to go from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
try flashing one of the kernels designed to install root e.g. Chainfire's kernel (basically stock plus root)or Hardcore's kernel (custom kernel but very robust) -- as you are on KG3 you will need a kernel designed for 2.3.3, not one for jvr or jvs.
Both CF and HC are very good at listing all their kernel variants with the right number of the firmware.
Flash using Odin with the kernel as pda, HC especially has some some clear instructions posted. It will leave you on KG3 stock rom and CSC.
You can also jump some steps, flash stock JVR as pda, leaving your KG3 modem and CSC in place, then flash a more recent JVR 2.3.4 version of either the HC or CF kernel or one like Damian's if you want to move further away from stock.
There are some further questions and answers in the thread on KG3 -- Bell users finally got a GB modem but not the latest GB firmware yet. Some have chosen to customize and go with thelatest firmware, some just wanted to root and stay on stock KG3.

hi did you ever figure out how to root this? i'm tryign to figure it out too
I have the same question.
I have the same question. All I really want to do is root the phone and keep the stock GKG3 kernel. However, I can't find a tool that works on the Bell i9000m running this 2.3.3 version of Android.
I've tried superoneclick and the Gingerbreak tool from Chainfire but nothing works.
Is the only way to root this to update the kernel? I was looking at the CF-ROOT downloads and not sure which one I would use if I used this option.
Kernel
thanks igsshedden. I found Hardcores kernel for the i9000m here

I flashed stock jvp gingerbread with odin so the phone became an i9000, instead of i9000m then you can flash a rooted rom,I then used Galaxy S Unlock from the market to unlock. took a lot of figuring but it worked. good luck

open odin and click pda, then locate a rooted/cwm enabled kernel that matches your phone version (kk4 is the most recent). change no other settings, do not include a pit file. make sure your phone is in DL mode and that odin sees it, then press start.
or use the newest super one click and have patience as it takes a few mins for the zerg rush to finish.
Hi,
I have an AT&T captivate android galaxy S smart phone. I was running 2.2 root. Today I am trying to put gingerbread 2.3.3 on and ran into problems, don't think I have the right files!
I now have 2.1 on the phone.
Model number
I897
Firmware
2.1-update 1
Baseband version
I897UCKF6
Kernel
2.6.29
Build
ECLAIR
build number under phone
10.06
Can you tell me how to get gingerbread 2.3.3 on my phone with instructions?
I do have Odin Oneclick Flasher, and Odin Oneclick Downloader.
The reason I don't use Kies mini and get the AT&T updated gingerbread 2.3.5 is because I did that with my husbands phone (same phone as mine) and we were NOT able to root it. I have read most everything around here and it seems that there are no possibilities to root GB 2.3.5 but I find things that say we can root GB 2.3.3.
Using SuperOneClick didn't work for GB 2.3.5 it was hanging on waiting for device I followed instructions I found on here about that and it didn't work.
Please can you give me a link to a GB 2.3.3 file that I can put into Odin Oneclick?
Thanks

You didn't read almost everything...rooting 2.3.5 is the same as any gingerbread...
You'll have to use the fugu kernel swap method.
Flash fugu kennel with Odin, that will boot loop.
Use button combos to boot back into download mode and flash a compatible kernel (kk4 most likely) once that's booted you'll be rooted.
Is there a way to update a Samsung captivate to 2.3 without a USB connection because my USB port on my phone doesn't work. Please help me and I charge my phone using a battery charger.

Nope...you need to flash bootloaders which can only be done in download mode, using a usb. sorry.
I think mobiletechvideos.com has replacement Ports

Wow, that sounds great to me except I just did a search of this forum for fugu kernel and only got this post! Is there another forum I should look for that on or do you have a link for me to download that kernel?
Thanks again appreciate your time
