Hi.
My friend says its stupid to buy the optimus 2x now, he say i should wait till summer, as theres some conference, in that conference all companies show off all their newest products and there will be alot of epic stuff.
What do you say?
There will always be a conference and new announced devices which are in some way better than the old one.
It you need now a phone, go for it.
I came from HTC desire and I'm quite happy with the 2x, only the size is still a Pontiac to get comfortable with.. and voice quality isn't that good..

If you`d always wait for the newest stuff you`ll never get a new one

Yea. I told him that. but he says nah, its only each summer the real.. breaking.. new technology comes out. -.-'
he says that this period of time (just before summer) is the most stupid time to buy a new phone
Buying technology is stupid, in 200 years you ll have it in you dna...

I don't think the other part of his question was answered. IS there a conference in the summer?

I got an iPhone 3G in November of 2009 (On contract) and last September I got my SGS (New off of Craigslist). I keep seeing these new and better phones coming out in the near future and I am saying to myself.
"Self, you want one of those phones".
Examples of said phones:
Galaxy S 2
i997 Infuse 4G
Optimus X2
Optimus Black
Anyway, do you get the newest thing out there or do you stick with one phone for a while?
$500-$700 is a lot to spend on a phone every year, but I love the newest gadget
If it works and does what i want then every ten years or so .
jje
for me, it is every time there is something better for my carrier 1700+2100 AWS, which usually there are not many
I usually hold as much as I can, usually it's 2 to 3 years so I can have the contracts promo's and rebates.
My last one was the good ol' HTC Vogue. Even tough HTC wasn't supporting the device since a while, XDA Devs was and I was running latest android built on it.
Since the popularity of the SGS is pretty more than the HTC Vogue, I assume we'll get amazing support from the comunity also! So I don't think I'll change until another year or two!
I must be sick or something. My SGS works great (Stock JL2, no lag fix, no custom kernel, only rooted). But I still have this little thing about wanting the newest and best.
What will the new Galaxy S2 (Or any listed phone in the OP) have that my SGS doesn't? 4.5" screen, faster CPU (By only a small bit), more MP camera, a flash? Do I really need these things?
Maybe it's a disease or something. Why can't I be happy with what I have? Maybe a woman would help? Anyone know one available?

The phone revolution has finally come to the U.S. so things will have to change...
Before all phones were crappy so it didn't really matter...now every 6 months a phone that was once new will be old news and the new ones will be must haves...
This has been the case in europe for years and so service providers can't force customers into 2 year contracts like here...most contracts are 12 months(and you can upgrade to a new phone practically free in 10mnths) and just to get people into 18 month contracts they have to offer great incentives...hopefully that will become the case here..
But to get to the point..with phones finally getting better you do feel the need to upgrade all the time...don't get carried away...think of it like with a new tv..new ones..bigger ones, faster response time, more color,3d, internet apps, usb ports...they keep adding stuff making you want the latest and the greatest...you don't need it..you want it...but don't need it...
See what your phone has..how you use it and evaluate of it meets your needs...granted now you are using it for a lot more stuff than before...gps, internet searches, facebook updates etc...suit down and think what you use your phone and if it lacks in any department...make a note of all the areas where you would like improvement and then start researching which phone would cover those specified areas..don't get carried away by features that seem cool but once you have them you will not use...(video calling for example..it is a phase..just like it was in europe and it went away fast..not everyone has it here..its not cross platform...ie pc to phone...and it telies on spotty 4g coverage or wifi..). Once you know what you need and find which phone had that...get that phone and stick with it...
I bought the g1 when it came out because I knew I would love android..I was right..after having it for almost two years I found that it was lacking speed due to cpu and lack of memory for installed apps...granted I was using apps2sd to over come its issues but this was a bypass got an issue that was there...i researched and found that the vibrant had exactly what I needed..1ghz cpu and 16gb internal memory for apps and storage...i was right..with nero v5 rom on it and an 8gb card it is amazingly fast and it does EVERYTHING I need...i don't need anything now for a long time...i want the new stuff..i don't need them...now I will wait for a phone that comes with honeycomb and performs well with it...it will be at least 6 to 8 months before I see something worth investigating which will be near my upgrade time so I don't have to spend too much money to get it (i got the vibrant for 99 bucks through amazon wireless with a2yr contact...)
Patience, good research and will power are all key...

"Wish in one hand, **** in the other. See which one gets filled first."
Lol, wish I had every new one that came out
But I renew my phone once every 2 years.
@Ian/w98seng, nope it doesn't change much with a woman around either!
I have a Nokia 6120 Classic right now from 2007 I think , but I LOVE SGS. Hope to get one as soon as possible with a contract. I didn't know about SGS 2, which is nice
Either when something better comes out or when O2 offer me an upgrade
Pretty much only upgrade when my existing contract expires and I get a discount on a new phone
OK, I'll be patient and wait a couple of yeas before I get another phone. It'll be hard and I'll cry a lot, but I'll be a good boy and wait. (Maybe)
you know you can SELL the phone, and upgrade to another phone....
that's what most people do to keep up with the latest and greatest
sell it meanwhile it stills hot (6 month to a year)
then upgrade to the next phone will not be as painful
it's like leasing a phone
you pay a $100 give or take every 6 mth to get a better phone
My job allows me to change the phone every year and I think its an ideal duration to play around, fiddle and poke around in a phone, especially when my company pays for it But exceptionally, Galaxy S keeps surprising me every now and then keeps me busy. Its like a woman, once you conquer it you will get over with it and get bored of it BUT not yet!! Unlike iPhone 3GS where I was looking to move on after 4-5 months.

Wait until your plan allows you to upgrade at low cost (usually after 18mnths on t-mobile) and go for a phone that had honeycomb and decent hardware to run it...I'm thinking 6-8 months from now there will be enough info on the models that are out to make an educated purchase..

The current rumor on the sgs2 is 1.2 ghz cpu, 8mp camera with lcd flash, capacitive touch screen,2.3 gb on it, fm radio with rds, hdmi output, 16gb memory,ffc....
if you have have the current vibrant I suggest trying nero v5 with voodoo lag fix.. ka5 with proper flash support...it will completely changer your phone experience...trust me...make a nandroid so you can give it a try and if you don't like it...restore...it feels like a new phone...search for sbg.v2.4 from jdan as well and that will make it even better...

Thanks for all the feed back. I will probably wait till my contract runs out before I get another phone.
harpocrates I'll give Nero V5 a shot, thanks.

I'd love to get a Lumia 800 to replace my Omnia 7, but i might hold the trigger and see what Nokia brings to the table next year. Anyway a Nokia WP7 phone is pretty much for sure the next piece of hardware i'll buy. After leaving this brand for a long time i'm looking forward to give it another go. Ofc i'll be keeping my GS2, Android is just too fun to play with and is right now a much better platform for games, not to mention the fact that i'm massively invested in the ecosystem...
mmm i thinking about the nexus one * _ *
I'm thinking of just getting a rubber case for my phone
nothing =(
Nothin I can't spend my money for another phone, I have an SGS with custom rom Doctrz Rom v 10 with 3700 Score on Quadrant

Well I finally got tired of my INCS, came from a Nexus One and i missed it, i ordered my galaxy nexus and it comes tomorrow! Development isnt as strong for this phone and thats another reason I dont like it that much but still a nice phone, im just getting tired of HTC phones because they all look the same with their HTC sense lol
I don't see why u would dump this phone for Gnex... Dude.... If I were dumping it... I would go for rezound or wait for CES.... U know u will be disappointed if something wonderful comes up at CES... Just wait if u can.... To avoid disappointment... I bought this phone after this years CES announcement and will wait till next CES....

well i basically dont want it anymore because i dont like the look and feel of it anymore, plus i love nexus phones, still miss my N1 ):
I don't want to bash you as a defector or anything, but given its lack of support in development terms, I can certainly understand why you would want to change. I think you could have done better than a Gnex though. A lot of very promising contenders out there with a lot more going for them.
Anyway, hope you find happiness with whatever device you choose.
Good luck.

I agree that the development is not as strong for the INCS but..... the build quality of the INCS is amazing, as a phone this is my personal favorite i have owned quite a few smart phones in my time, form BB to IPhone and even as far back as the HTC tilt titan.. haha ya i know thats very dated. I dont think you will find any better build quality than a htc. In my exsperiances with samsung products they are built very cheap and are spit out a dime a dozen. if you go back to the origonal nexus i belive even that was built by HTC as well. In my opinion i would have wated for a different modle then the samsung, again just my opinion.
have a good one
So mine HTC Evo 3D was picked for warranty today by HTC. I needed make the choose, or live with an dust part under mine screen or not have mine new HTC Evo 3D for about 1 a 2 weeks.
The dust part.
So I made choose to let them fix the problem and now I have rehab, I can't check the time unless there is somewhere a clock, I can't check or answer mine mail dure breaks on work and I'm not reachable until the phone returns.
I guess many off you also miss your smartphone if its gone for warranty and it feels like rehab.
If it helps....find a iPhone and smash and burn it.....might get your mind off things bud :/
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Lol no the iPhone I would in fact accept as temporary smartphone while mine phone is away for warranty.
But when the store where I bought it wanted to turn it for warranty and give me a temporary phone, I said no, but now I did it directly via HTC and don't have a temporary phone, but I think doing direct via HTC is faster as via the store would be slower.
They would send it to HTC to, but it would probably take longer for me to get it back as it goes via the store.
I understand what you are going through. I am addicted as well and I donĀ“t know what I would do without it, even if it was for a few days. I have a friend that works in a drug-rehab clinic, and he told me that many people can deal with drug whitdrawal but they keep on desperately asking for their smartphone!!!
That video must be fake ha.

It has been wensday since I'm having smartphone rehab. I got the following symptoms: I don't have any grasp off time right now, because the smartphone is also mine clock and to make it even worse there is not even one clock on mine new temporary workplace.
Further more I'm not able to set alarms myself, mine smartphone is also mine alarm clock and I'm not able to listing to music on the go and ofcourse I can't check mine mail during the workday.
And I'm not reachable.
Dude I just went to the store and forgot my phone and almost had a panic attack so I feel your pain lol

Thank you for contacting LG Electronics
Hello Chris
Unfortunately at this time there is no upcoming update for the LGP925. It has been announced that only the LGP930/935 will be receiving the ICS update.
Thank you for choosing LG

Enjoy the read.... I know I will never again buy LG. From now on my phones will have to say Google on the back for me to consider it.
Saddest thing I've read all day.
Let's hope this is just a misinformed employee.
Besides, maybe the P925 won't get it, but if the P920 does, than it can be easily ported.

I also ditched the Thrill.. Sold mine on Craigslist for 200 dollars and then dropped another 180 on the Galaxy Nexus... I don't really like Samsung or the way they build phones but after dealing with LG and their runaround bull crap I'm really looking forward to having a phone receiving support straight from Google. Its too bad LG's support sucks so bad because its was a really nice phone aside from the ghost call issue and the lack of updates.
