[Q] bricked? can't mount sdcard - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have the same problem described in the old thread @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807784
The thing is, The problem just "appeared", havn't flashed lately, out of the blue, the devices hung and from then on, have not been able to access. I was running DARKY 9.5 with his new kernel.
error started of being:
Code:
update media. please wait
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared ye. Pleas use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy deault media content failed.
after flashing JPM8:
Code:
can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or directory)
E: copy default media: can't mount SDCARD:
copy default media failed.
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl11
(Invalid argument)
flashing JPM bring me back to square one. can't repartition (or push or anything using ADB). Tried everything google has to offer, but no luck...
my SGS has been acting very bricklike for 4 days...
Need help (and lots of it)
Thanks

This should help you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845708

@jim SGS I9000 8GB international
@zhuk7 I'm not able get that far, somehow lost my root, can't push parted, can't locate fdisk

bump......

Try flashing something else. An eclair rom would be a good place to start. Pit files with no repartition.

and I was under the impression JM8 is eclair...

I had similar problem and the solution was to flash a 3 file rom in odin(csc, pda, modem) with repartition.

which (exact) ROM?
so far i'm failing miserably with all roms, including some quite old ecairs - JFF & JFD

now tried almost all the 2.1-2.2 EU stock ROMS and no luck...
should I send to manufacturer?

SO FAR:
a)flash JM8 with 512 repartition,
b)flash JPM with no repartition
c)flash speedmod 500
now have an active android GUI, claiming the internal sdcard is "damaged"
from here, I have tried numerous fixes, with no luck yet...

Just to summarize:
I send to samsung (and is was a hassle... overseas) and they fixed it under warrenty...

[HELP] Flashed JPM with Odin 1.3 - black screen after glowing S

Theres a similar post, but for the vibrant... + theres no solution in that post
I followed the instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7152078&postcount=2
Using JPM.tar and 512.pit
Odin said Pass.
But on reboot it says:
Updat media, please wait
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media: Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions
copy default media content failed.
On boot, it gets past the glowing S, but then gets to a black screen and vibrates every so often.
Help anyone?
You should have used 803.pit for this particular update, try flashing again using 803.pit, if that does not help then flash to JM8 or JM9 using 512.pit then reflash to JPM using 803.pit with no re-partition and only JPM as PDA.
Thanks trying as we speak.
Just flashed JPM with 803.pit ... same error
trying ur other suggestions.
just flashed JP8 with 512.pit

This is a normal error for Eclair if you flash a non multi-csc firmware because the requested folder is not there, what you need to be careful about next is to backup the efs folder before doing any other flash. You need a copy of that folder, you can read many threads about missing IMEI number or changed local and sales codes, and these errors cannot be corrected unless you have a copy of the efs folder. When you have a copy of that folder then you may flash as much you like to JPM using 803.pit with no re-partition and the tar file as PDA.
Ive just flashed JP1... how do i know if the contents of the EFS Folder are still the original files? uhoh

[Q] Screwed up after flashing

EDIT - See bottom of post - I solved it!
After trying out CyanogenMod, I decided to flash back to JL2 on my Bell I9000M.
Reading the directions to flash back it said just to flash using Odin with repartition. So I do so using the JL2 firmware from samfirmware.com.
After rebooting, however, I'm presented with the following:
update media, please wait
E: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI me
nu for format and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed.

Formatting and wiping using the recovery menu has no effect. Rebooting gets me to the "S" logo, but it just sits there and vibrates every so often after that. Reflashing has no effect, and I've tried using PIT files to no avail.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: I was able to flash hardcore's kernel and boot into ClockworkMod, and I formatted all the partitions there, but it still throws the same error.
EDIT: No need to respond to this. I figured it out, and I'll do a writeup on how I fixed it for those who may end up in the same predicament as me.

failed to mount /sdcard

sorry to annoy you but my phone went crazy. it keeps rebooting. and when i try to access recovery i get :
e:failed to mount /sdcard (file already exists)
e:copy_dbdata_media:can't mount /sdcard
your storage not prepared yet.please use ui menu for format and reboot actions
meida files copy failed.
installing multi csc
can't access to '/system/csc/nee/system/'.
what must i do?
lol how funny it just happened to me.. when i tried converting system to ext4
i flash 2.1 with re-partition than to JVB custom rom
can u provide me the actual rom, csc, pit, modem u used? cause i tried to flash it. i get only on the recovery to install from sd card. but since my pc don't recognise it cant do more!

[Q] Internal SD Card isn't recognized

Hi everybody
I was on the newest DarkyRom version on my SGS GT-I9000.
But last week I got the SGSII. So i wanted to flash the SGS back to stock to sell it.
A tutorial told me to flash JPU first and then update later to newer versions.
I did this and the phone was back to the original firmware (everything worked fine).
But when I tried to boot it this morning it got stuck in a bootloop.
So I tried to flash JPU again. But this didn't help.
I got error messages on first startup like:
Code:
update media. please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
your storage is not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed
Since then I have tried to flash many other firmwares. Stuff between 2.1 and 2.3.6.
But nothing helped. The same error on first startup after flash and then bootloop.
Someone told me to flash CWM via ODIN an see if the SDCard was mounted.
Turned out it's not. When I try mounting the SDCard in the CWM recovery mode I get the following:
Code:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(I/O error)
Error mounting SDCARD:!
Is there any way to get the phone back to life or is the internal SD card just broken and do I have to send the phone in?
Greets
no one got an idea?
I guess not... :S
I have the exact same problem. But I didn't even tinker with my phone. I started crashing daily and now it doesn't even boot anymore.

hi mate.
your problem is that you're trying to run a gingerbread rom, while you have an ICS/JB bootloader. the two use an entirely different partition scheme, so it's not finding the storage when it tries to access it. it seems to be a common occurrence, lots of people aren't aware that the two differ, when they're even aware that bootloaders exist.
if you look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37836094&postcount=2 , you'll find the solution i gave someone else that had that problem the other day.
to succesfuly downgrade from cm10 to stock GB you have to flash 3-file ROM with pit512 and re-partition checked.
