I figured we needed a thread to discuss the BootManager app.
First, big thumbs up to GFlam & Conap for this app! I used Conap's CELEB CM Roms on the Eris for a long time.
Now:
They have a User Manual on their site.
What does it do? You keep your rom on the phone, and you can add up to 4 more on your SD card. You use the app's menu to select which one you want to boot into next.
What is it? it is an apk you can get from the market. It lives on your phone. It doesn't mess with Clockwork and such.
What's the catch? There is something you have to pay attention to...It requires a connection to the market to verify it's authenticity. So, whenever you add a new rom, you need to connect it to the market...the trick: you need to flash gapps right after you flash a rom before you boot into it.
What If I forgot to flash gapps?!? No big deal. If you boot into a rom you installed that doesn't have the market, the BootManager app won't work, so you can't use it to boot back into another rom. They have a solution - boot into recovery and flash the "update.zip" located in the bootmanager>phonerom folder on your sd. Then your phone will reboot into your internal phone rom.
What's the catch, part 2? Some roms have custom scripts that run when they boot, so they don't play well, especially when installed on the SD card.
What else do I need to know? Rom installs take longer. After installing, the roms on the sd card do not lag. You can back up the roms that you install through the app.
This is a dream for people who want to play with nightlies or try a bunch of roms, but need their old-reliable come Monday morning. Check it out!

Disclaimer: I have no affliliation with Init 2 Win It. I just love this app.
I'll start with a question, too. I put BAMF3.0 rc 4.9 in an SD slot. When I boot in, everything works except Titanium Backup can't find root. Anyone else have this problem?

Interesting. I'm having a similar problem with MyBackup Pro. The app would request SU permission but then it never acknowledged that it had it. I also had BAMF 3.0 Rc 4.9 running off SD

I haven't tried the MIUI yet. It might be another with a custom boot script.
You could try to install it as the internal phoneROM and see if it works. If it doesn't you'll need to restore a nand backup.
Good luck, should you choose to accept this mission. This post will self-destruct in 3...2...1...
ok so maybe someone can help me. im trying to flash CM7 and i flashed it and forgot to flash the GAPPS thing before a reboot. i got back into my original rom and im ready to try it again. i have CM& ready to flash, but how do i flash GAPPS before the reboot? do i do the flash of GAPPS from within bootmanager, rom manager, or hboot? thanks!
Flash gapps through bootmanager just like the rom, in the same slot. Dont wipe anything.

That's why I'm here.
disappointed that the synergy nightlies flashed to a slot put me in a boot loop. but was excited that all i had to do to fix it was flash the update.zip under bootmanager/phone
Maybe I'm missing something but where can I find the gapps zip/ every time I try to boot from the app, its telling me either no Rom installed or no image found
I installed all 3 versions of the recently leaked GB ROM using bootmanager and interesting NONE of them will boot up. Best I can tell from adb logcat is that the ROM does a memory test and the wrong memory type is returned causing a boot loop at that point.
Smells like a bit of copy protection testing going on.
Yea something's not working right with the app... I can't get any Rom to install.....

A lot of the Sense roms fail. I have Monolith running fine.
Hey there, just wondering of anyone else is having the problem of Sd card space going into limbo if the ROM install doesn't go well (i'm talking the install or back up glitches and doesn't finish, not it actually finishing and getting a boot loop. I've tried wiping cache/dalvik cache, all the cleaning functions within the app. Deleting the slots and wiping the slots didn't work either. Like I said it seems to be in limbo, and don't feel like moving all my data off my card and reformatting every time this occurs. Any ideas?
Hey guys,
I love this app. I also had some problems but now I have Gingeritis as my phoneRom and switch between SHIFTS3NS3 and BAMF which are all gb roms.
The trick I found was that if it doesn't load the first time keep trying, it took me about two tries to load SHIFTS3NS3 and about 3 for bamf. Make sure you use ext2.
Also make sure your phone stays awake.
If you have an issue email the Devs they responded to me with in 10 min of the email.
Great app

ive been using dj steve's release 2.0 of honeystreak for a few days and scrolling through the forums on the development threads but i cant seem to find a way access cwm, to confirm i am using:
dell streak 7 wifi version only
honeystreak 3.2 release 2.0 wifi only
and i am accessing recovery from holding down vol+ and power and selecting option 2 (third option down).
i can confirm i have been able to access CWM before i flashed honey streak so i no its not the process of accessing it that im having a problem with, i did flash honeystreak release 1 but later flash release 2.0 for cwm.
please help as the only reason i wanted a dell streak 7 was to have honeycomb and cwm.
cheers guys
Well, when you select update.pkg what does it do???
That should get you CWM, if it does not then something has gone wrong, maybe re-download and re-flash ..
As soon as I click it the screen goes off but the softkey buttons are still on, I have to hold down power key to turn off the device then turn off it back on. I've read on the development forums this is happening to a few people but no one is responding with a fix,
Cheers thanks for the quick reply

I have a NC with a 1.3 update and previously had it rooted using the manual nooter 4.6.16.. until I had to reboot, and it stuck at the loop.
Is there anyway to prevent this?? I have wiped, restarted, wiped again, tried something else. I am new to all this, and have read everything on these website about rooting after the 1.3 update, until I have gotten myself very confused!!!
I want my orginial NC with 1.3 update, along with the market, so I don't want to install CM7. Any suggestions???
Thanks!
I was in the same boat.
I decided Market functionality & re-boot was more important than 1.3, so I opted to go back to 1.2 and now everything is fine/working.
I also used root explorer to overwrite "auto" updates for B&N in registry with "manual" updates http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946969.
Hopefully it keeps things working and I won't get 1.4 -OR- someone will update manual nooter to accommodate 1.4.

I have been through the same thing, and scoured XDA for a solution, with no satisfactory and permanent solution. In the end it seems the options are to do a Dual boot solution, with one for B&N stock and the other for CM7/MIUI/Phiremod, OR give up on B&N stock and move to CM7, MIUI or Phiremod; which is what I did. Very happy with MIUI from http://MIUI.US.
B&N are going to work tirelessly to mess up dualboots and rooted devices. Get them out of you hair.

You do not want to update flash. It causes a boot loop. Are you only using one MN file? I'm pretty sure there are two MN files you have to flash for 1.3

Yes... I am using the 4.6.16, only. Back when I was trying to do this for the first time, I followed the directions on this website to the letter, and it just never worked. XDA told me, that it was because I already had 1.3 update, so that since that was the case, I needed only to use 4.6.16.
From the MN thread:
1.3 Must do these instructions first with 4.5.18 then with 4.6.16.
You need both.

I had a Nook Color on 1.2, updated to 1.3. Rooted with ManualNooter and did the instructions with both 4.5.18 then with 4.6.16. It booted fine several times over a couple of days, as soon as I installed the CWR from Rom Manager it did the boot loop. I went back to 1.2 and did the whole thing again thinking I had done something wrong. Same thing again. I tried to do the CWR 3.0.1.0 zip fix but no dice. Mine loops on the Nook Co (clolored letters). So if anyone has any ideas, on what to do thanks in advance. I guess I am going to try going back to factory one more time and not install the CWR from Rom Manager.
If I can't get that to work - then Cyanogenmod7. I have done another Nook Color for my grandson with CM7 and it works fine. I wanted to try this on another one.

I faced the exact same "nook co" issue. Read through the MN forum and figured out it was because as soon as i booted up, i logged into the market and updated Flash. once i realized the issue, I quickly logged into the market and cancelled the flash update(it had already started an auto update). Never had the problem again.
Good Luck !
The problem is the flash and adobe air update. There's actually a zip file you can flash when you root your device floating around here somewhere. It fixes the problem and 1.3 is happy. There's still a few apps missing from the market.. but nothing major

I read about the updating flash, and yesterday, I finally got back to where I was before it stuck on the loop. Before I could figure out how to cancel the flash update, it updated!!
SO, I can either start over, and figure out how to cancel the update, or just not reboot!

I also found an update to fix the Flash and Adobe Air since it had updated before I could uncheck the auto update. Once I booted to CWR from an sdcard and then installed the fix file - that fixed my boot loop issue and it has been working fine ever since. Try it - worked for me. I actually found a file named FlashPlayer11.0_AIR3.0_Update_Fix_20111020.zip - I'm not sure where, but it worked.
I managed to root my NC once again, but this time...when Flash started trying to update, and I got it stopped!
If it updates by itself and gets stuck on the Loop page, I plan to use the file that is posted above !
Thank you everyone!!
Rather than waiting for it to boot at the wrong time, I would just go ahead and boot into CWM and run the adobe fix. Thats what I did and it has been working great since.

Update:
First I tried it without gapps. Everything booted fine, but there was no market nor would accounts/ sync let me add Google account.
So, I rebooted into recovery, which worked fine, and flashed gapps.
This time on boot, I actually got the Droid X welcome screen, was able to put in Google info, and market initiator ran and updated.
After that everything worked fine.
Tested Bluetooth, Messages, Gps and Calls. Didn't get chance to try Wifi yet, but I'm sure it works since everything-else does.
The only thing that Would be better is an updated Superuser. The 1 included will NOT update SU Binary. I think it's the old edify binary. Even by updating Superuser in the market WON'T help. Although an easy fix is to get RootUninstaller and uninstall Rom Superuser, then download new 1 from the market and install.
Keep up the hard work. Nice Rom.
Finally, does this works for any other gb kernel besides .621?
Anybody please tell us!

on the devs to look at potential probs/fixes too.
Oh yea, I also got to looking into your system/app folder in your zip. The vending.apk is Not in there, which i would say is why I had to flash the gapps. Just wanted you to know.
Also there is no "boot.img" (which is kernel right?) in the new dwnload.

I hear ya, I had the same prob with sd card so i formatted mine as well, problem was still there though. whenever i tried to install a rom from sd card via rom manager the problem was i kept getting the message saying waiting for sd cart to mount then it would say error bla bla bla sending log file to cwm ect ect ect.... i dont know exactally how i fixed that, all i know is i installed another rom, like cm7 or cm9 for instance and after that whenever i went to back up rom it worked fine ever since.... maybe something flashes over correcting the sd card problem when you install a rom... I know rom manager checks to verify the marker on sd card and thats what your problem is I believe.
Try doing this, try installing a rom cm7/cm9 without making a backup (i know you could lose everything if it fails but its the only way i know that fixed mine) after you have installed cm7/9 go to rom manager and hit the Backup Current Rom it should reboot you to cwm recovery and make an auto backup, if it does this without throwing up the waiting for sd card to mount error stuff and it runs the backup program and then reboots you it should fix your sd card problems.....
Review this rom
this is by far a ROM with the least lag by far i tried liquid ICS and plenty others don't know what it is but the lag is really minimal runs really smooth i only have this for like 3 hours but will update soon
pls hit thanks if i helped

Home and power for 20 seconds is too longtime. Even if it tried to turn on, if would power back off before 20 seconds. Try for 8 seconds, then release power followed by n.
If you make a bootable CWM SD per my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature, you should be able to flash one of my plain stock zips in item 6 there. If you flash the rooted version, it should not successfully update to 2.2.

Rebooted with CWM and flashed with NookHD-HDplus-Universal-Root-rev2-(02.02.13).zip, rebooted and found that root was restored all seems to be working fine at the moment, certainly adaway successfully asked for root permissions and got them to download and update its files. I tested this and if you have universal root rev3, the update fails. If you have universal root rev2 or earlier it will break root. But you can get it back by flashing universal root rev3 again.
The enable unknown sources zip still works.

To get to internal recovery, from powered off press power and n together for about 8 seconds, then release power and then release n. Don't hold power too long or it will turn itself back off. It will boot to whatever recovery you have installed. Stock recovery looks different and will only ask if you want to clear data. You can do nothing else with it. If you have CWM or TWRP recovery installed to internal memory it will boot to them.

The only reason I did it was that I wasn't aware of rev 3 and didn't want the HD+ to be updating itself on its own whim which, looking at the B&N forums, it seems to be doing, with some mixed results. If I had had rev 3 I wouldn't have bothered. I was hopeful that the crosswords and hulu+ apps had been made uninstallable but they reappear after a reboot. The 'upgrade' seems to be more about B&N offering services than any improvement to the user experience, at least from what I've seen.

The 'upgrade' seems to be more about B&N offering services than any improvement to the user experience, at least from what I've seen.

I read that in the Changelog and thought something HAD to have been changed, tweaked, or improved other than just that crap. Really disappointing...
On the bright side, the KitKat Rom runs pretty nice and doesn't seem to have any broken functionality.

Tried to flash to SD card with rom but it doesn't boot. Is it a low battery issue .. is there any way to see if battery is charged or not?
As mentioned whenever I plug in it shows green led, please help

I'm not quite following you. 'Tried to flash to SD card with rom', what does that mean?
