Unable to receive any phone calls XXJVK - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy S, I was using 2.2.1 XXJPY and am now using 2.3.3 XXJVK. In both firmware versions I have experienced after a random interval of time my phone no longer accepts phone calls, I may have experienced this before these firmwares, but I am uncertain of this. When this occurs I reboot the phone and receive notification of phone calls / messages from hours ago implying that my phone has been "off" to the outside world for some time and that a reboot solves this.
The signal reception bars at this point are 2 or more, but I cannot receive any phone calls, additionally in one of these instances I could not make any phone calls, I believe it may have been the case that I could not make a phone call in all cases but I only tested once.
Anyone have any idea how I can resolve this issue?

Are you using the correct CSC for your network .
I would try a factory reset .

I have the same problem, I tried differents roms, but it is still there...
Can it be the bootimage?

Happens to me sometime. I noticed it after i move from JS8 to JVP. signal at 2 bars and noone can call me and no other communication works that using GSM (weird thing is that 3G net is working )
I do hard reset and clean cache before and after upgrade using ODIN. so its not about settings. Maybe Radio FW?

I'd change the modem.

As far as i remember someone were collecting modems images, where i can find that collection?
also, can i use modem from Froyo on 2.3.4 ?

Yes, you can use Froyo-modems on Gingerbread too.

[Q] My Galaxy S auto-rejects all incoming calls

Hi there folks. I got a Bell Samsung Galaxy i9000M about a month ago or so. Initially, I was very disappointed that Android 2.2 wasn't available. After some digging through these forums, I discovered Doc's Froyo ROM thread and read that some people on Bell had used this successfully. I followed the instructions from his thread (am currently uisng Doc's Froyo v7.6.2 JPO, and my phone is rooted as well). Ever since I changed firmware to Doc's v7.6.2 Froyo versus the original Bell UGJH2 (i believe that's what it was called) Android 2.1, my phone auto rejects all incoming calls.
What happens is that any time someone calls my phone by calling my phone #, my phone rings once, then the call is rejected (the phone I call from says it got rejected), and on my Galaxy S, I lose network signal completely (3G/phone signal) for a few seconds when this happens.
Is this a known issue with the ROM I am using.. do I have some sort of option turned on that I shouldn't? I need some help here. Is this something my phone carrier (Bell) is doing cause I hacked the phone?
To clarify, I am perfectly able to make outgoing calls to phone numbers, and I am able to browse internet with 3G/HSPA just fine using Bell's network. Before I did the upgrade to this Froyo ROM, I was not experiencing this issue. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction, I really need to get this fixed because right now, no one can call me.
Really, no replies? There's no one else that has had this issue? I want to flash my phone to the new-er Froyo JPK3 that's supposed to be for Bell.. anyone have a clue whether that should fix it? What about just doing a factory reset?
i have the same problem, different carrier though, german o2
i think it might be cuz of a wrong CSC
i reflash now and report back
My initial guess was that my ROM is not suited for my phone/carrier.. but since I was able to make outgoing calls, use 3G and send/receive texts, I dismissed that idea. Especially since there were other people using Doc's v7.6.2 on Bell with supposedly success results.
So what I did was I went into Clockwork Recovery Mode, and did a factory reset. Now my phone works fine. Beats me what the problem was. Must've been some app I installed I guess.
i had the same problem. i did what you did. factory reset. then used titanium backup to restore all my apps and system settings. thank God for titanium backup lol.
I happens to me too from the 1st time i flash my phone to froyo.. u need to reinstall the correct csc. After a clean flash insert your sim card then dial *#272*IMEI No.# then choose the right csc of your phone. It will make a factory reset after the installation of new csc.

loosing all bars 3g/h signal while trying to make calls

hello all ,
this problem just started last few days (no i havent changed anything on the phone) ive got a i9000 on bell. im using romkitchen v2 . i attached a photo . its doing just as the thread intro says
it only acts up when i when i try to make a call . 1 - 2 min later the 3g/h bars back and i can make out going calls .
any ideas?
thank you
Make sure you always have 3G data turned on. Also use a Bell modem that supports 850Hz, JK4 if you're on 2.2.
Well aware to have that on its Never been off . .

Urgent help - AWFUL sound during calls!

Just got a Captivate and I whenever I make or receive calls there's a loud interference crackling sound like an old internet modem UNLESS I set the phone to SPEAKERPHONE. I can make the call and I can hear the other person but it's almost impossible to understand anything the sound is so bad if I don't set the phone to speakerphone.
I've tested skype just to be sure it's not speaker related and I could hear and speak perfectly.
If I play a music or a movie the sound is perfect though.
I've tried a bunch of different roms, modems and carriers to no effect.
ROMs that were tested
CyanogenMod-7.1.0-Captivate, I897UCKF1, I897UCKE3, stock Froyo, Continuum, Mosaic, Milky´s i9000 GB ROM (no interference crackling noise during calls at all, but people could hear me and I could not hear the people. If I plug in the headphone I can hear but I hear with the interference crackling noise. If I press the speakerphone I can hear everything perfectly).
Modems that were tested (via odin AND CWM): kb1, ke3, kh3, kj3, kk2, jl1, kk1, kk2, jh7, kk4, jh2, kf1, jh2, ji6, jj4, kb1, js1, jv6, jpd, jpg, zsjpg

Tried that but at this point I'm thinking it's a problem with the mic/speakers.
Why did you start another thread for the exact same thing?

I've requested the Mods to close the other one so that I could sum everything up here and increase my chances of actually getting some help. BTW, could you please delete your post to keep this thread clean? I will delete my post too.
If it isnt a rom/modem/kernel issue then its hardware. In wich case not many ppl would know how to fix it. I would recommend talking to the seller of the phone or maybe (depending on the age of it) comunicating with samsung for the 1 year warranty thing.
I've tested skype just to be sure it's not speaker related and I could hear and speak perfectly...so I guess at least this rules out hardware malfunction.
Do you guys think it could be something with the dialer?
IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS! I've tested making and receiving calls with the speakerphone on and I can hear and be heard perfectly! It's only when I make or receive calls with the normal settings that the issue occurs.
Odin one click back to stock Froyo. Don't change your modem, restore any settings, or do anything else but turn the phone on. If it still sounds like crap, it is a hardware problem. If it sounds good, it's something you're doing after the install.
Agreed. At a minimum, factory reset the phone from the settings (backup any data before).

It doesn't make sense that I can hear perfectly when in speakerphone and while making skype calls...both use the same hardware.
Could this be carrier related? Even though I have full reception bars when I try to find available carriers it finds all the main ones except mine (VIVO), and it finds a number instead (72411).

That's not entirely true. If it is your earpiece that has failed, it would still sound fine on speakerphone because it is using the speaker on the back, not the one on the earpiece.
It could be your carrier. I assume you're using the right SIM card for your carrier?
As an aside, jumping from thread to thread is making it unbelievably difficult to help you. Please just start a thread and stick with it so those of us trying to help you actually have the information we need to do so. I understand that you think that you are helping us by summarizing the facts, but what you really are doing is getting rid of valuable information that people are trying to use to figure out your problem. Info that you may not think was important (like the fact that you are in Brazil) could actually be the key to figuring it out.
Are you running CM7?

I've tested making skype calls and I could hear and be heard perfectly. That is why I was assuming it was not my earpiece.
I've tested 2 SIM cards from my carrier. Since the phone is unlocked I will try to test a SIM from another carrier to see if the issue persists...though if it's carrier related I'm not sure what I could do.
I'm not using CM7, but I did try it out.

Well there goes my theory then.
Bump..............
I have tried SIM cards from 2 other carries and even though the phone had service the sound issue persisted.

If it persists through flashes to stock and over multiple carriers, I would suspect it's a hardware issue, unless someone has any other ideas.

Although... you could try playing with the frequency bands to see if it gives you better results. On stock, I believe it is *#2263# (if that doesn't work, search around for band selection). This should take you to the band selection screen, which will give you the ability to manually select which frequency bands you are using. You could try different bands to see if it gives you access to something better.
What I really don´t understand is how come this problem doesn´t happen when I make calls with skype (since it uses the same hardware). This is what really makes me perplex about this problem.
Because skype uses the data network and phone calls use the voice network. Also, phone calls would use your audience chip, while skype wouldn't (I don't think anyway). If it's hardware, my suspicion is that you have an audience chip problem. This sounds like the same issue you get when you flash an i897 modem on an i9000 ROM, presumably because the modem is expecting the audience chip but it's not working.
What made me think it was a band issue was that you can't see your carrier with your carrier's SIM in. This would point to your phone not seeing your carrier's frequency band.
If you sort that out and still have static, next you could try flashing an i9000-based ROM (pretty much any GB ROM but Pinnacle, Cognition, or Illuminance) and try that. i9000 ROMs don't use the audience chip at all, so if that is the issue it won't matter.

Galaxy S not making or receiving calls or txt’s using XXJVT/XXJVS Rom HELP!

Hi all, I have been using the Stock Extra from the here for a number of weeks now with no issues. Until yesterday when my galaxy s stopped making or receiving calls or text messages, I get an error message saying text not sent & when I try to dial out it goes straight to call ended. I have tried a restore which didn’t help and I have even went back to XXJVS Rom 2.3.5 but still no calls or texts ! I rang Virgin mobile yesterday and they did all the usual checks and they said it must be a setting on the phone causing the problem as they cant see anything being blocked or barred. When I use my card in another phone it works fine ! My wife’s sim card wont work in my phone either so it has to be the phone ! Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this problem? I am Desperate now I have only had the phone 3 months!

Did you try a reflash with Odin? Never seen this problem before.
Hi Paulforde, Yeah tried re-flashing with Odin but no change
Cheers
Try a different modem firmware...
I had several issues with several different ROMs but in most cases anything to do with calls, data, wifi, GPS, or BT were solved by flashing a different modem... I didn't notice which country or carrier you're using but I'm in Canada using Rogers and the best modem I've found for signal strength, and keeping all of the other radio related functions working has been UGKC1 This is dependant on where you are and who your carrier is though.
You can find most of the Froyo and Gingerbread modems here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
Hope this helps,
Jamie
I have this exact problem with a Galaxy S I just got back from a RMA - the antenna was dodgy or something and it would get poor signal everywhere. Now signal is fine but it won't make texts/calls, again not the SIM.
Does your mobile internet work? Mine does which is weird..
Have you also checked your APN settings??

[Q] Issue with out going MMS

My phone just suddenly stopped being able to send mms/picture messages (it was working fine uptill yesterday). No new apps have been installed, tried battery pulls but its still not working. When i try to send them. the phone will say "sending" but the message never gets sent, it will just stay that way until i delete the message.
Im in Pakistan so am using the international GSM note gt-n7000. Funny thing is, I am receiving mms just fine and can browse the net using the data network connection aswell.
I was on stock GB when the issue started and now just updated to stock ICS 4.0.3 and the problem still persists.(im non rooted btw)
Also the few other people i know who have the same network as me, but are in another city are experiencing no problem whatsoever.
I have tried everything i could think of, using the default access point settings as well as manually entering them but nothing seems to work.
Could this be a problem with my phone and not my network?
Hi, I am having same issues on AT&T: i am unable to send/receive MMS/connect to inet. Everything worked fine before the ICS update.

I would suggest that you call ur operator pertaining to this matter.
By the way, could you tell us what is your Modem, kernel and ROM?

its all stock, have yet to root the phone, the ics is the official Germany release. The problem started when i was on GB and persisted when i came over to ICS... i can cope with a network problem, just hope its nothing hardware related..
Do you have other Sim card from other operator? That is another way to isolate the issue
